John Dolan Flooring Kitchen & Bath

I chose the Dolans after receiving estimates from other companies, based on the reviews from Angie's List. Their price was on the higher side, but having the showroom close by and someone (Caroline) to help with the design and specific product choices was really helpful as I had never done a remodel before. The entire process went very smoothly from start to finish. I contacted them in July, 2012 and once the contract was signed, work began in mid August. John's estimate was that it would take 3-4 weeks to complete and he was right on target. The majority of work was completed by the end of week 3 and the finishing details were done by end of week 4. No structural work was needed, but the entire old kitchen was torn out. They installed new custom cabinets, tile floor, installed my new appliances, sink, and tile back splash, granite counter tops and redesigned lighting. I also chose some special details including a floor tile patten insert in front entrance hallway. After hearing many unhappy stories from others who had undertaken remodels, I was prepared for things to go wrong, etc. I am happy to say that nothing did, and the entire job went as planned. John and his crew were super and Caroline and Loraine at the showroom were fantastic at keeping track of the schedule and ordering the correct supplies needed for the job. I feel like I now have my "dream kitchen" and would definitely recommend this company. Bottom line, you get what you pay for! The final cost for the project was fair for the quality products used and the highly professional service.

It was simple. Dolan started the project on the date they promised, completed the project by the date promised, and delivered what they promised! There were no additional charges other than when we chose to select a higher priced granite. All of the workers were pleasant, helpful, and respective of us and our property. They took the time to seal off the other areas of the house with plastic to control the dust as much as possible which they removed each evening. They performed all of the demolition and disposal of the materials and for the most part cleaned up after themselves. Caroline performs all of the front office functions for kitchen remolding with Lorraine providing back up. Lorraine handles the bathroom remodeling part of their business. John handles all of the on-site work coordinating the various workers, providing supervision, and performing some of the tasks. They were readily available and always responded to our questions and concerns during the whole process. We highly recommend Dolan based on our experience. We did go through the quote process with 6 other kitchen remodeling/cabinet makers to allow us to make an informed decision. We also used Angie's list to do our research and were impressed with the reviews that Dolan received. An important factor in choosing Dolan was that one company was responsible for all the facets of the remodeling and that we weren't coordinating and chasing people to complete their tasks. Dolan was able to complete the project in less than 4 weeks from start of kitchen demolition to project completion which we were most thankful for as the next day was Thanksgiving.

Caroline, their main customer liaison, came and talked to us about what kind of counter we wanted, and provided some options. We had a lot of back and forthing about whether or not to put in a backsplash -- she is very meticulous about how things will look, and strongly suggested putting in a granite one over the existing tile, but was very thorough in going over possible aesthetic problems, such as how high to make the backsplash, and whether it would be possible to align the top with the tile line. Unfortunately, nobody noticed the fact that several of our outlets and the disposal fixture were close to the actual counter, which made it difficult to impossible to put in a backsplash without either moving the fixtures (expensive to impossible) or interrupting the backsplash (which would look bad). So we nixed the backsplash. The actual installation went fairly well. The existing faucet turned out not to work with that thickness of granite, so the plumber John Dolan had hired couldn't do the work. The Dolan people did not charge us for the visit, which I appreciate. A fair amount of granite chips from the old counter fell into pots and drawers beneath. When I mentioned this to Caroline, she said that was pretty common for such jobs. When the old counter came out, it left a small but noticeable in the wall. They partially patched it, but it was still quite noticeably a hole. They said it was a preexisting gash that happened when the previous counter was installed, and when it was removed, the patch came with it. I believe them. However, they left it in bad shape and did not mention the problem to us. Caroline offered to come in and patch the hole free of charge, which I appreciate. However, we also want to repaint it so I said we'd have our painter do the whole job. Overall, they were very responsive and did good work.

Mr. Dolan's office called within one day of our email. They wanted to let us know that he was backed up until December, but were we interested in waiting. While we want the work done sooner than that, we were very impressed and appreciative of the fact that Mr. Dolan's office contacted us rather than just not respond because he was booked up. Thank you so much and we will be contacting Mr. Dolan for any future renovation needs we may have.

We found this company on Angie's List because we had prior bad experiences with contractors. They came right out for an evaluation of the job, but took a while to return an estimate. I was almost ready to move on to another contractor. They must be very busy. But, once we got back in touch, everything went smoothly. The job was a little more difficult because we had to knock down a wall. They handled it well. They showed up daily as agreed and on time - even when we forgot to leave the door open, they waited patiently. They are very professional and able to address and resolve any concerns that arose. On the days we were waiting for deliveries, they were able to complete a job (for a fee) which was left unfinished by another contractor. The Kitchen remodel was completed as scheduled. If I could make one comment, I was a little surprised that they did not paint the kitchen when they were done. I previously assumed that painting was part of the job. So, you may need to discuss this with them. We love our new kitchen.

Installation took two days, as expected. Countertops were removed and reinstalled in one day (including sink and faucet) so we were not without a kitchen for any nights. Returned later as scheduled to install tile backsplash.

Overall went very smooth. The entire crew was punctual, courteous, professional, and left the house tidy EVERY day. Plumbers, electricians & counter top crew were great.

They did exactly what they were hired to do. Extremely helpful. Price was excellent.

They did a great job. I would give them an A on everything. I loved them.

Failed to show up on time for estimate, 1:15 after scheduled time received a call stating they were still coming. Kids were asleep at this point, and they didn't seem to think it was a big deal to show up at 8pm. Will be using someone else.

Excellent! Owner John Dolan came promptly on appointment and gave us a fair estimate. I needed him to pick up the vanity (very heavy) where we bought he arranged delivery and pick up. All work was done in one day. He arrive on time, His Plumber was excellent. He came with adequate truck and moving help. Installed. Absolutely I was also impressed with him personally. And I was also very impressed with his showroom and that he runs a family business with his 3 sisters.

Totally according to plan. There were a couple of obstacles encountered that were completely addressed.

A person came and gave us an estimate which we accepted. A person came and measured the counter top. We went to the place from which the granite would be coming and picked out the piece to be used. They came and in one day, undid the plumbing, removed the existing counter tops (and took them away), put in the sink and new countertops and attached the garbage disposal and faucets and reattached the plumbing. The faucets had a small drip which they replaced with no extra cost. They were terrific and though the price may have been a tad high, it was well worth it. We would choose them again with no question.

Johns work was precise. He cut all the tiles and placed on the floor to make sure placement & angles were correct. He then tiled the backsplash and it was beautiful!

He does good work and in a timely manner. He cleans up well afterwards and are reasonable people to talk to.

Dolan's remodeled my kitchen and downstairs bathroom in 2010, so I knew that their work was excellent. Everything from the planning to the work itself was top-rate.I would definitely use their services again.

John does exquisite work, efficiently; courteous. All his workers are polite and are as respectful of the customer's house as John is. John worked to minimize disruption and even finished most of the work ahead of the target date.

After 6 months of research and getting a few estimates, we found John Dolan Flooring on Angie's List. We went to the store and met Lorraine, John's sister (It's a family business). She was very helpful and not pushy. John came to the house and gave us an estimate which was reasonable. Not the lowest and not the highest. You can purchase everything you need through them, or you can order products from other places - we did a bit of both. Lorraine made suggestions on product lines and materials which helped us a lot in terms of knowing what we should put more money towards versus not upscaling. We found their line-item budget to be a highlight of working with them. It allowed us to know exactly what we were in for and exactly what materials we would need. They guarantee all of their work and products purchased through them for one year. So, if we have a plumbing issue within a year, they will send their plumber to us no charge to fix it! Or if our shower head goes nuts, they will fix it. We found Lorraine and John to be very knowledgeable and responsive. He completed the shower stall (previously did not exist so he had to frame it) in 7 days and the full bathroom renovation in 8.5 days. Everything was clean, well-maintained, and undisturbed. We love our new bathrooms!

I will have him back again to do some more things. I have 1 inch thick plaster walls in my house and he had to cut the ceramic tile to take the old backsplash off and put the new one on. There were different prices for each thing and I thought that the price was a little high, but I did not have to worry about the work. I liked the woman in the store. He came over within three days to do an estimate for my flooring, backsplash and how much material would be needed. He had the flooring that I wanted but not the backsplash. Before the work was done he would direct his people as to what was to be done. He was here fist thing in the morning, maybe during the day and he was always here at the end of the day to make sure it was all cleaned up. He made sure that it was all secured and properly done before the next step. He did all the laying of my tile and of the backsplash. He has a lot to work with and a lot to work around and he did a great job.

The company has a showroom with many samples of cabinets, countertops, and flooring. I used their catalogs and actual samples to choose the materials. Caroline came to my home and gave me excellent advice and suggestions for the design of the kitchen. The entire renovation which included rip out, installation of cabinets/countertop, flooring, tiling, appliance hook-up, and plumbing/electrical took 3 weeks. John and his workers completed the job diligently and to perfection. They always cleaned up at the end of each day and took great care with protecting newly refinished hardwood floors. I've used their services in the past for a bathroom remodel. Always satisfied and highly recommended!

They had a showroom where they had various counter tops, sinks, vanities, and many many tiles. The woman in the showroom were very helpful about helping us choose something, they let us take home samples to look at in our bathroom at home. They worked hard to get the job done on a tight schedule because I wanted it done before the guests arrive and we were able to get it done in 2 days.

Had a kitchen floor installed by two somewhat inexperienced workers. Because the unit was unoccupied at the time I did leave the men alone to work (my mistake). It was a one-day project. Because it was raining that day they had to cut materials inside the unit. I came home to sawdust throughout the empty living room and commented on it. They vacuumed but still did not get it all up. The appliances were back in place and the flooring looked great. However, the workers took the extra, un-used flooring with them when they left. Because I was so new to home ownership and repair I did not know they were not supposed to (also my mistake). I did mention all of this when I stopped by the store to pay the bill in person; didn't even get an apology. A few months later I noticed a piece of flooring was rising/separated from the rest. I called and this time the owner of the company came out to look. He said it could be repaired but that the floor was uneven and that was the problem. I believe this to be accurate. He asked for the leftover flooring and I told him his workers took it with them. He said that they don't do that because the customer had paid for that. I assured him I did not have any extra flooring left behind. I was later told (not by the owner) that if I wanted the floor fixed they would do it (no labor charges) but I would have to buy more flooring. I declined. While I like the product I purchased, I feel the company has poor customer service.

Dolan installed the countertop and tile backsplash at my mother's house while she was in the hospital and time was of the essence. The people at Dolan are very nice and extremely accommodating, we had some tough scheduling as I was getting the hardwood floors redone and the vinyl flooring in the kitchen as well. They did a fantastic job and made time in their schedule to make sure the project was completed Prior to her coming home. After the installers left, we realized there was a blemish in the surface, I called the office and they made sure the fabricator came to the house to polish it out. The job turned out perfect and although they weren't the cheapest, you definitely get what you pay for and i'm glad I went with Dolan.
