Dave was professional in every way. He was responsive on the phone and in person. The work was done as described and it was done when scheduled. We were very pleased with the results. We knew he was busy and our job was relatively small (compared to big roof jobs) but he still treated our problem seriously and was highly responsive. Highly Recommend!

The roof is tight and beautiful. The guys were very professional, and we are pleased to be able to recommend them to anyone needing roof work. I just wish they did kitchens too!
Description of Work: Very pleasant group to work with. We had a persistent leak in our front porch roof, and the first company who came in made it worse. Capitol returned a couple of times, trying different strategies (short of a new entire roof) to repair a leak. In the end, the leak started way up the roof, so we decided to get a new one.

These are the second and third jobs that Capital did for me. First, you can set your clock by Dave(the owner). He is punctual to the minute. He is polite, professional and informed. He gives you a detailed quote within a few days and then will give you a date to expect to begin when you commit. Only severe weather conditions will prevent the crew from starting when they say. The workers are polite, don't curse or play loud music. They all seem to get along. The work with minimal breaks.THEY CLEAN UP AFTER THEMSELVES. They do quality work. If there is something that you are not happy with, they fix it--no questions asked. My only reservation in giving them an A+ is that they will get too busy . They are great to work with in every aspect. Laura Logue Rood 23 Bay St. Cambridge
Description of Work: Rebuilt 3 sets of exterior stairs--that was July. In November, they fixed a leaking skylight, replaced the roof on that dormer, Replaced several gutters, replaced roofs and painted two entryways, replaced wall board in damaged areas.

One rainy day this summer, water poured in through my ceiling, just below the skylight. I called or emailed 8 different roofers based on their Angie's List rating and proximity to my location. Of the 5 people who came to give an estimate, ONLY Capital got up on the roof to have a look. Because of his close vantage, Mr. Arrowsmith was able to ascertain exactly what needed to be done. He took photos which he later emailed to me so I could see what was wrong. AND while he was up there, David made a temporary repair to the very leaky skylight to stem any additional leaking, without being asked and for no charge. Though his estimate was slightly higher than the others, his extreme level of good service won him the job.

David came out promptly and, it seemed, expertly evaluated the many problems in this recently purchased "fixer upper" which had been vacant for most of the prior couple of years and had substantial leaks and water damage. Within the week, he provided a very detailed estimate and work plan, all of which seemed reasonable. He let me know it would be about six weeks before he could start and despite an extraordinary amount of rain in the next weeks, his company was able to get started with the work on time. Completion of the work was somewhat delayed by additional rain, but the team didn't seem to cut corners and accomplished all the contracted work and somewhat more... impressed by his mason's work on a chimney, I inquired about some possible brick work on the front walkway and was offered a good price and got that done too. The crew was capable and friendly. David established a good relationship with neighbors who were very impressed by the team's work. Throughout, David was easy to reach, willing to provide clear explanations and very willing to resolve ambiguities in my favor. It was clear that he was strongly invested in having a happy customer at the end of the process and did all the work necessary to make that true in this instance.
Description of Work: In main roof area (about 800 Sq feet), stripped 2-3 layers of existing shingles, replaced damaged/rotten roof boards. Installed new shingled roof, replacing a skylight and adding ice and water shields and drip edges . Installed commercial grade rubber roofing on 5 dormer roofs. Removed existing chimney flashings, ground out mortar, installed new flashings and replace mortar and sealed. In second, lower, flat roof area, installed roof fiber board and rubber roof. Cut and repointed chimney. Installed new ice and water shields and flashing. In rear "carriage house", stripped approximately 1000 sq feet of existing shingles, replaced rotten roof boards, added roof fiber board and installed commercial grade rubber roof. Did additional drywall/plaster work to repair water damage.

It went as smoothly as you could hope for a roofing project could go!
Description of Work: We were looking for a company to do slate roof routine upkeep. After this past hard winter, we had lost many slates as snow would slide off of our roof. We called two companies on Angie's List that had received favorable reviews. David from Capital Construction responded right away, coming out and giving me an estimate. He also broke the estimate down for us to figure out which extras we wanted i.e., fix existing gutters or replacing, etc. We went with simple slate replacement, he and his crew also did some gutter work, as well as cleaning out my gutters, what a nice extra! AND they got rid of the gunk out of my gutters, not just leaving all that stuff lying all around my house. I appreciated that extra touch! And they worked with the extra slate I already had stored away They did the job while we were on vacation so I didn't see them in action. But you would never know they were there. I found Capital Construction to be a pleasure to work with and would not hesitate to use them again in the future. The other contractor, I never heard from again after I asked him to break down his estimate so we could see what we really needed and could afford.

We were under immense pressure to sell our condo, having put down an offer on a single family home, with a closing date fast approaching. We needed someone to come out immediately to look at our skylights to answer a concern that came up during a potential buyer's home inspection. We needed some help immediately but never thought that would happen. To top it off, I called on Memorial Day week-end, but the owner answered his cell and said that he would come out on Tuesday, which he did. His responsiveness and communication were great from start to finish. He inspected the whole roof which was more than we had asked for, and that day sent pictures with an explanation of what he saw and what would be needed to rectify potential future problems. He broke down the cost of various solutions and once we chose what work we wanted, he again came the next day to complete it. We couldn't be happier and would definitely seek out the company in the future. We will pass on the name to the buyers of our condo for any future needs of theirs, as well.
Description of Work: Inspection of roof and skylights (x 13) on entire roof of triple decker condo. building. Provided detailed estimate of cost for different types of solutions. Lead counter flashings installed at (x3) skylight areas. Removed all debris from rear gutter and disposed of it.

David was very responsive throughout, and it was easy to get him over to do the estimate, even though it was the start of the busy season. Since it was not a lot of work, he agreed to fit my job in between others since it would only take a few hours or so. There were a few minor issues with the job on the first pass, so I contacted David to voice my concerns. I was most impressed with his willingness to immediately come back to the property to touch up the problem spots with no arguments or BS explanations. David is a professional.

Unfortunately, there was no project because they couldn't manage to call back, one way or the other.
Description of Work: I read about Capital in "Pages of Happiness," and promptly called them to come in and look at a leaky downspout and basement wall. I called several times over the course of two weeks, and they have never called me back. I understand if they were swamped with requests after the magazine article, but a truly good service provider would call back and say they can't attend to my need right now -- or put some kind of message on their answering service.

Excellent from start to finish. At least one other roofer refused because it "wasn't worth the trouble". Clear description of the work, efficient, always timely and very considerate. When there was a gutter on the (very close) neighbor's roof that needed to be manually removed since it was loose during the covering of it, Dave talked him through it and even put up an extra downspout gratis for him. Met the timelines as committed. Great stuff.

WHEN ESTIMATING THE ROOFING PROJECT I WAS TOLD THE BUDGET WAS TIGHT AS PAINTING AND OTHER PROJECTS WOULD NEED ATTENTION LATER IN THE YEAR. I SUBMITTED A VERY COMPETITIVE ESTIMATE WITH ANY POSSIBLE DISCOUNTS INCLUDED. - THE HOMEOWNER ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED AN ADDITIONAL DISCOUNT AS AN ANGIE'S LIST MEMBER. THE DISCOUNT WAS $500.00 ON A $16000.00 PROJECT.

I contacted four companies for estimates. Capital Construction was the not the cheapest. There was one guy who was a little cheaper however he was a single person with no insurance. One company came in $4,000 more than Capital Construction. The price was only 50% of my decision. The one thing that stood out to me the most is that they were extremely punctual on when coming to give the estimate as well as emailing me the pricing and detailing the work. They were the only company to give me a price quote as well as detail all the work that it included. My father is a carpenter/handyman in CO and was extremely impressed by the quote as well as the time factor. They were on the time, gave me an accurate timeframe it would take to complete the roof and on the cost. They were so professional and did such a great job. I have had my house for 3.5 years with lots of work needed. No other service has been as good as the service I received from Capital Construction. I wish they did more as I would love to use them for all my home repairs/maintenance.

David was great - he (and his team) were always on time and very professional. Of the companies that provided estimates, he did the most thorough initial inspection and estimate, and was great about answering all of my questions during the process (and there were many). Weather was an issue during the time (Feb) that we were trying to do the repairs - it was too cold and snowy to do the work for several weeks. At the first sign that there might be a break in the weather, David came out and prepped the roof ahead of time, and was therefore able to make all of the repairs on the one day that the weather cooperated. I haven't had any problems with leaking since then. I will definitely call David for any future roofing-related work.
Description of Work: Identified and repaired a leak in my rubber roof (fixed sealant around pipe) that was damaging the brickwork in room below. They also took test patches to ensure that there wasn't any ice underneath the rubber roof due to the leak. Made repairs to two chimneys (replaced missing bricks and other holes in the masonry, applied sealant to the bricks and added a chimney cap and flashing to one). Also fixed sealant around base of one chiminey. Added flashing to one side of the roof that the prior roofers had forgotten about.

When David from Capital came to give the estimate to have our slate roof repaired, he came right on time. He was also the only one to come with a ladder to actually assess the job from the roof. The other contractors simply looked at the job from the ground level. Throughout the job, David and his crew were very professional, punctual and tidy. He explained the repair that had to be done to the drain pipes and since the job was done (Summer 08) our water in the basement problem has disappeared. Thanks David, you did a great job!

They were friendly, courteous and did good work. Dave came out to the house and provided an estimate when he said he would, emailed the estimate, called beforehand to confirm that they were coming the next day, and rescheduled the time they were going to come to later in the day because it was more convenient than early morning. Even though it was expensive the work was worth it. During the estimate Dave climbed up onto the roof and took some pictures to show us what the problem was. Very punctual!

Every bit of work that David and his crew performed was top notch. I am a first time home buyer who needed to obtain a construction loan that required a tremendous amount of paperwork be done. David gladly submitted all of this to me and was always just a phone call away. Once the work began, David's crew worked very hard to complete the above mentioned work. We hit some substantial snags with getting approval for the decks, and David split the cost of the architectural plans that the local building department required. I will absolutely recommend David to people I know.
Description of Work: Removal of old chimney. Installed 4 new lally columns (with 2' cement footings) in basement. Removal of 3 layers of old shingles from roof, installation of ice barrier, new shingles. Replaced 1 old skylight, installed 1 new skylight. Built 2 new Trex composite decks; 12x12 and 7x15.

Responsive and responsible epitomize David Arrowsmith and his team at Capital Construction. We had several jobs for Capital Construction ranging from masonry work on our chimney to carpentry work on a side entrance/deck. We began by employing Capital Construction to come up with a solution to our water problem. Basically we needed to keep the water away from the foundation of the house. They completed that project in a matter of hours for short dollars but were very clear in telling us it was a one-to-two year solution at best. As a result of their work, the foundation is water-free for now. A week later we realized we had a problem with our chimney. We got three estimates, all of which were pretty close in price. The difference: David was the only person who took the time to actually climb up his ladder and venture onto the roof to inspect the problem up close. When he came down with photos it was clear what needed to be done. But before going further with him, he insisted I check out other chimneys they had built and emailed a series of photos. The project took a tad longer than originally anticipated, but David was constantly in communication with the mason and myself. In fact, there were several days when David came by unannounced to inspect the progress of the job. I was impressed with how easy it was to get ahold of David and I appreciated his professionalism. The crew used our driveway for staging and made a bit of a mess, but when they left, the driveway looked cleaner than before they arrived - and believe me that's saying something. We also hired David to cleanup the mess on our side entrance left by an irresponsible contractor, who left the side of the house exposed to water, causing leaks in our basement. David's carpenters came in removed portions of the deck in order to get to the problem and then rebuilt their section all in a day. Not only are the leaks gone, but the deck looks better and is more secure.

The two man Capital Construction crew were highly professional and extremely efficient and completed the job in one day. This compared very favorably with other contractors, most of whom had estimated about three days for the work for a lot more money, also requiring that all materials to be moved up or down to the roof go through the narrow interior stairwells of the dwelling. Capital used exterior ladders for this and for the staging and were completely non-intrusive -- a big plus in my view. The final result looks very good!
Description of Work: Capital Construction removed the old roof deck and copper flashings on a flat 80 square foot area. The roof had been leaking into the bedroom below and the deck floor planks were warping badly and splintering. High density roof fiber board and new copper flashings were installed and a strong single ply 060 rubber roof glued on top of it in one continuous sheet. A new Trex deck with PT underlay was installed, and the existing handrail put back as per my request.

Great, they were on-time, friendly, and showed me what they were going to do before they did it. At first they repaired the rubber roof but it was still leaking so they came back the day after I called and found the main problem was an old wood gutter which had a hole that lead into the building which was why the roof was leaking. They replaced it and no more leaks!

Our condo association was dealing with our leaking roofs for 7 years! We hired many contractors to fix it and spent a lot of money, but nothing seemed to work. After almost a year of searching for a professional company who will actually guarantee material and labor for 10 years and comply with our city inspector s suggestion (for the deck) we finally hired Capital. What a pleasure it was to meet very knowledgeable David Arrowsmith and receive a very thorough quote. We re happy to say that they did everything they promised (and even little extra touches with no charge). Despite of a very snowy winter, all work was done within few weeks and we have no more leaks. The crew was punctual and professional at all times. They even worked on holidays between snow storms! They cleaned everything after the job was done and even touched up our front lawn with fresh mulch as they had to dig in to pour new concrete footings. All of us are extremely impressed by Capital Construction!

The job went great! Dave and I were able to co-ordinate and work together well. We had to get a dumpster into the parking lot where 10 tenants park. When I handed out notices not to park there Dave an his crew where there early waiting to get to work. The only problem we had was with the weather,Dave and his guys can only control so much. I had a great experience with them and now I have turned the thermostat down in the building due to the insulation I never had. I spoke to 10 roofers before I choose Capital Construction I would Highly recommended. When extra work appeared They were able to come up with sub to do the work right away. The extra work was to repaint the chimney and one of the porches need some carpentry work.
Description of Work: Work was performed on a 13 unit flat roof building in Brighton MA. Dave and his crew Removed 3 old rubber roofs and 1 tar and gravel roof. They replaced the plywood if it was rotten. They installed a layer of insulation then wrapped everything including the roof access houses in rubber. They also installed new and much better drains and covers to the drains. They also made the roof pitch better to the drains. They took off 20 years of bad work and made it all new and better.

The work was performed professionally and in a timely fashion. The work site was left clean. What impressed us most, however, was the honesty and straightforward talk of the company's representative, David Arrowsmith. Whereas other roofing companies that we had consulted and asked for an estimate tried to sell us a whole new roof, or considered the repair too small a job or the leak too difficult or time-consuming to find, Mr. Arrowsmith told us that we didn't need a whole new roof at this point in time and promised to find the leak however long it would take. He told us that he would come back and do more work free of charge should the repair measures that he proposed not solve the problem. We didn't need to pay the bill until the next big storm had proven that the problem was solved for good. We actually hired Capital Construction again a couple of months after the chimney repair to solve a recurring problem with ice dams that we had been having on a different part of the roof.
Description of Work: We had a leak in the roof but it was not clear where the water was coming in. After examining the roof thoroughly, Capital Construction suspected a faulty sealing of the chimney against the house as the source of the leak. They removed the existing chimney flashings and surrounding shingles, ground the mortar out, installed ice and water shield under the shingles as well as new lead flashings to the chimney, and sealed the chimney. In addition, they pointed out an area on the roof where we might have a future leak issue and installed roof cement to that area as a preventive measure.
