Lewis Weitzman

We hired Lewis Weitzman to â rehabâ our kitchen. Lewis was amazing. We didnâ t need to hire an architect. Lewis, after extensive talks with us, came up with several redesigns that incorporated our tastes and preferences, while also taking into account the limitations of the space. Lewis was not only receptive, he was involved and creatively problem-solved every step of the way. Daily, he was there, overseeing the work of demolition teams, plumbers, cabinet makers, flooring experts, electricians, carpenters, and painters. When he discovered that one of our support beams had been taken down almost 30 years before, he quickly found a solution and was able to put up a massive beam that supported out entire upper floor. Throughout the work, we never had to worry when â discoveriesâ (never good ones, regarding electricity, plumbing, you name it) were made â we always knew Lewis would find solutions. Throughout the process, he continually helped us imagine new possibilities, whether it was uncovering a hidden brick wall or creating custom-made shelves in â dead spaces.â We had complete confidence in him â his work ethic, his skill, and his ability to coordinate multiple teams seamlessly. To us the result is amazing â we love our new kitchen and canâ t believe itâ s ours.

We hired Lew for a set of changes to our condo to increase our ability to age in place. We needed every tradeâ  electrician, plumber, tiler, plasterer, and painter along with Lewâ  s own carpentry skill set. Lew listened to all of our concerns and made informed suggestions that enhanced the final solutions. His workmanship and that of his sub-contractors was excellent. Lew treats your home as if it were his; he provides top level work and workmen. He cleans up every day. He will listen; he will respond promptly to your questions; and you can trust him in your home.

Lew goes the extra mile for his customers - he's quite thoughtful and thorough. I would ask that if you work with him, you treat him with the respect any kind, true craftsman deserves. Lew will not be the cheapest but the work performed will be high quality and you will find the entire process stress free. We've not had anything "go wrong" during our projects, but we have altered from our original approach. Lew made that process easy, he was very patient and simply a joy to work with. He is a rare breed; a renaissance man who stands behind his work and is concerned for making the entire process stress free and fun. From initial meeting to develop a quote through the very, very short punch list, Lew was professional, knowledgeable, a good listener while establishing his own views, and good humored. He was on site throughout. We adopted many of his design and implementation suggestions, and he maintained his good humor and high quality work standards even when we disagreed.

I had a bathroom remodel from the studs out. Lew was very easy to work, punctual and answered every phone call. His subcontractors were considerate and polite, and they always cleaned up before the end of the day. The finished product was beyond my expectations! I would hire Lew again and refer him to friends and relatives. I will say Lew was a bit expensive but worth every penny! Anne from Arlington

Lew transformed my embarrassingly decrepit bathroom into a thing of beauty. It wasn't a full gut job, but as a result, was probably more complicated than it would have been to just take everything down to the studs and start from scratch. Lew had some great ideas for maximizing space and storage in my small bathroom, and was able to execute on that vision perfectly. He explained everything he was doing, and did his best to meet my budget (I had to supply all materials and some of the supplies and did all the leg work to order and take receipt of all items--but this helped keep my costs down, which was important to me). He and his team did really excellent work, cleaned up after themselves when they were done each day, and basically did everything they could to get the job done quickly and minimize disruption to the household. The punch list at the end was laughably short and was resolved within a day. I would not hesitate to recommend Lew to anyone needing any kind of renovation/remodeling work done--he's skilled, professional, easy to work with, and friendly. Five stars!

Weitzman Renovations undertook a major repair to our 1901-built three-story Victorian in mid-Cambridge. A significant, load-bearing timber supporting most of the front of the second-story had to be removed and replaced due to a seriously rotted condition. A foundation of support for each of the porch pillars had to be excavated and fresh cement poured deeper to account for the heavier modern material that would replace the old beam. Lew, and the skilled craftsmen he brought to the job, overcame every challenge involved in extracting the old beam and inserting the new. In the process, a number of important historical details could have been compromised. He meticulously restored all the architectural features, while coordinating beautifully with the Cambridge Historical Commission's stringent requirements and eagle-eye inspections. From day one, he kept us informed of the next necessary steps and the progress of the work in a most satisfactory manner. He brought the work to a close on-budget and on-time. Impressive!

This was my first renovation project and Lew made it a dream come true. My project was no small task, including the installation of intricate tile, moving a wall, and finding ways to make everything work in my 1800s home where nothing is straight or flat. Lew problem solved throughout the process, providing options and explaining issues as they came up. His communications skills are top-notch. I always knew what was going on and I never had to chase Lew to get answers to questions I had -- incredibly important to me as I work full-time. While the overall design was done by a friend of mine, Lew had great design ideas along the way as we made changes and adjusted the plans. Lew brought in truly talented subcontractors and he did an excellent job managing the entire project. While dust, etc. is to be expected during a renovation, Lew was always conscientious about cleaning up as much as possible at the end of each work day. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my results and I would hire Lew again without hesitation.

We had a large painting project to address water damage. This included some patching, plastering and painting. We moved out of our place for the week so managing the timeline was important. Lew and his crew hit all the high notes with us an we could not be more pleased with the experience. If you have a project, want it managed properly and the work completed with a high level of quality you can stop your search for a contractor now. Lew is simply the best. He coordinates craftsman that care about their work, he puts customer satisfaction as a top priority and he's extremely knowledgeable. I wouldn't call anyone else but Lew. A massive job; gutted the old kitchen to the studs, rearranged the layout, added a deck door in place of old windows, plus electric, plumbing and underfloor radiant heat. The kitchen is now the neighborhood gathering place. Lew and his crew also cleaned and painted the unfinished basement...what was a dark, dusty place is now neat and bright. It is still an unfinished space but a great "guy cave". The new heat system installed by his plumber sub is a direct vent furnace. What with the excellent insulation applied to the walls in the kitchen and under the roof, my gas bills are very, very low. Lew had plenty of "real world" ideas and opinions...that's a value in and of itself.

Lew is excellent in every way. The work that he and his team accomplish is genuinely outstanding. Ours was a very complicated project, but each day, Lew communicated effectively and honestly about all that was happening. He has an eye for design, too, that resulted in our bathroom/laundry room (which was deconstructed to the dirt floor) coming out far more beautifully, and practically, than we'd ever hoped. He also has a gift for kindness and generosity, so that he's able to keep you calm throughout the process. And no detail escapes his notice, either. Plus, every day, the house was clean when I returned to it. So what could have been a nightmare experience actually was fun, kind of a collaboration, and the end product is fantastic. Lew has done other projects for us too, including replacing all the windows in the house, and more. We think the world of him and feel fortunate to have benefited from his expertise.

Mr. Weitzman is an experienced craftsman and contractor. He has good relationships with his subcontractors, skilled employees of his own, and excellent supervisory skills. I was very pleased with the way he communicated during the planning and construction stages of my renovation. The job came in on time and on budget.
