Not well. It took two weeks to find a replacement and get it installed. I spent many hours of my own time trying to find a toilet that fit. For the money, I expect the plumber to know what could/should fit and make recommendations. If its a really difficult job, the plumber/business owner should visit the job site.
Description of Work: One of my tenants broke a toilet. I contacted Kevin Klein to get it replaced. He responded promptly and sent one of his apprentice's out within a couple of days. The broken toilet was removed and a replacement was fitted. Unfortunately, the space between the edge of bowl and door was limited and the first 3 toilets wouldn't fit. I was advised by Kevin to rip out the bathroom and redo it for approx $10k, despite the fact that Kevin never visited the site to see if he could figure out a solution. After hours of research and half a dozen visits to plumbing supply houses, I was able to find a toilet that fit. Kevin's assitant came by and installed it. Cost $550 for two visits by an apprentice and, one toilet removal and installation. Within a month, the new toilet started leaking from the seal and, had to be reseated. In summary, I'd avoid using this plumber. Since then, I've found better and less expensive plumbers in the local area.

Kevin is a friendly guy, and he has good prices for Boston plumbers. Kevin didn't do any of the work himself at our house. He gave me a verbal quote, which I accepted, and he said he would provide a contract, which was never provided. He started work a few days later and over the course of two days, two of his guys did most of the rough work. Kevin showed an inspector around the following morning, got it signed off on and then came back in the afternoon to collect his check. When I inspected the work, I noticed that they had installed the drain sloping the wrong direction; it sloped away from the house drain. This was a 4" PVC pipe run about 15 ft horizontally across the basement wall that was going to service the kitchen and bathroom. His guys fixed it after I complained, and they came and did the finish plumbing when we were ready for that stage of the project. Generally speaking the quality of their work was somewhat suspect. Our range has a sticker on the back of it that says "Use 6 ft flexible gas line" and they installed a 4 ft line, so in order to get behind the range, you have to roll it part way out and then lean over the counter to disconnect the gas. They made a big deal of carefully insulating the PEX water lines running through our crawl space, but then left the ice maker line running in the same space uninsulated. There was a general lack of attention to detail. Based on what we paid him and how many hours his guys were at our house, the hourly rate broke down to about $85/hour, which is very reasonable for a plumber in Boston in my experience. If you feel comfortable inspecting their work or trust that the city inspectors will do their jobs properly, Kevin can be a very good deal. Kevin is a gregarious, outgoing guy, and I suspect he's on good terms with the city inspectors, as he had no problems getting things inspected and passed, which can be either good or bad depending on your point of view. The other problem we had with Kevin was that he was not very reliable as far as scheduling and returning phone calls. When it was time to do the finish work, he wanted to send a guy over for "2 hours this afternoon" or would say "call me at 10 AM on Tuesday and I'll see if I can send someone out that day" instead of scheduling a block of time where they could finish a big chunk of the job at once. I think it was a half dozen visits to hook up a sink, the disposal, the dishwasher, the ice maker, the gas range, etc. He also never gave back our house key.
Description of Work: Rough and finish plumbing for a new kitchen (sink, disposal, dishwasher, ice maker, gas for range). Rough plumbing for a new bathroom (new 4" PVC drain stub out).

I had them to do a large renovation several years ago, and they were excellent. They seem to do best with larger jobs. They have a very great track record in dealing with building issues. They are on good terms with the inspectors. He has all the right contacts and phone numbers, and has great guys who work for him.
Description of Work: They put in a water heater and dishwasher.
