OLD TYME CHIMNEY SWEEP

Apparently the annual oil burner servicing does not include the cleaning of the flue. It had never been cleaned. Soot was spilling out of the chimney, so we decided to have it cleaned. He disassembled the the metal pipe leading to the chimney and cleaned it and the chimney itself. There was a lot soot buildup. He recommended it be cleaned every 2 years. They showed up on time, left the place spot less. Very satisfied with the service provided.

Dan was awesome !!!!! He showed up as promised and went out of his way to accomodate my tight scheule. They cleaned the chimney and inspected it thoroughly. Explained to me in details what needed to be done for repairs and my options, and provided me with a cost effective quote asap ! Would recommend him to everyone !!

Dan and his team were very punctual, professional, detail oriented and clean! They came in, set up tarps to avoid any mess, assessed the situation and completed their work quickly and efficiently. Based on our usage, they recommended service every 2 years which I will for sure call these guys back. I had mentioned rain and snow being a problem coming down the chimney and they recommended a cap which they had on their truck. Less than 45 minutes later, I had a clean capped chimney and no evidence of any work preformed. Before they left, they explained work performed and provided me with warranty information for the cap.

I was very impressed with the great attention paid to the interior of the house- carpeted living room leading to the fireplace. There was nothing to see when they finished except for a pristine fireplace. Dan and his daughter (?in-law ) were pleasant, neat, not rushed but used their time efficiently. I chose them based on the reviews on Angie's list and felt they were true to the details. I can't comment on the cost comparisons as I prefer to pay for excellent service rather than shop for the cheapest deal.

Our chimney hadn't been swept in 30 years and Dan was very fast, courteous and clean. He did a great job and has extensive chimney experience. We will use his services again to fix our crumbling chimney.

He was great. I eneded up not needing any services and the guy was honest and trustworthy and didn't try to charge to upcharge me. Angie's list reccommended him to me and I'm very happy with the results.

Had to schedule several weeks out but work was done as scheduled and looks great.

I thought this group was great. And I will definitely use them again. They were professional and very clean, there was not a spec of dirt anywhere. I recently bought my house (my first home) so they were very instructional and told me some areas of the chimney I needed to keep an eye on. The only reason I gave them a B on punctuality was that they ran late but they were proactive and called me ahead of time to let me know they were running late, which I didn't have any problem with, and appreciated the thoughtfulness. I also rated them as a B on price because I have nothing to compare it to, I do not know what the competitive rate is for this service. I purchased the Angie's "deal" for $190, which very well could be very competitive for a chimney sweep. I just wouldn't know.

clean as a whistle and not a single piece of evidence that they were ever inside the house. very pleased with on time arrival, length of time spent in the home and results - CLEAN CHIMNEY! Recommended to everybody on the block.

Oops, I said it all above. However, I can add the fact that he and his helper laid a protective blanket on the floor in my living room while they dismantled and cleaned the pipe leading from my wood stove to my chimney. In all the years I've been having my chimney cleaned, I have never seen this done. I was impressed. I was also impressed with their speed. They seemed to have a system down that got the job done in record time.

Unfortunately the company is not able to schedule the work until the end of December. I found someone else that can do the work this week.

From the very first phone call, Dan at Old Tyme Chimney Sweep was the ultimate professional...answered the phone personally on my first call, we discussed my issue, he gave me an estimate, and set a date. The week of the appt. I called to reconfirm, he had everything correct. On the day of service he showed up on time with an assistant cleaned my chimney, fixed the stuck damper (was due to soot behind the damper, as Dan had suspected). Offered a break on the price as I am an AngiesList member...they were in and out in no time, they protected my living room while doing the work, and it was a joy! Can't wait to use the fireplace now! Thanks Dan, you'll be our Sweep of choice moving forward and we'll tell all of our friends!

They completed the service on time and what they did was satisfactory. The service was scheduled and they arrived on time, communication was specific to the point, no run around and they showed up when talked fully loaded with the equipment. So there was no need to leave the property once they arrived and they did a very good job cleaning up the residuals from the construction. The personality of the owner came across as a very honest individual.

it went fantastically. i had contacted other companies one of which wanted $199.00 for an estimate alone. dan stopped over in between other jobs he was doing and evaluated the situation. he gave me free estimates for the work he would do and then scheduled the job to be completed the following day. Less then a week later we had a foot of snow which has now melted and so far no leakage. very happy with the service and will utilize him again in the future for chimney sweep and additional repairs if needed. the only reason i rated the price as good was because i ended up not getting any additional estimates from others so i don't know if the price was better then others would have been.

The Chimney portion of the job went well and the chimney was cleaned and inspected professionally and we had little to complain about there. The problem with this job lied in the cleaning of the pellet stove. We chose this company over others since we did not know how to go about cleaning our pellet stove and this company claimed that they could do it for us. Other companies that we had called told us that they did chimneys only and not pellet stoves and we wish this company had said the same because based on their work, pellet stove are not something they should be claiming they know how to clean and/or work with. By the time they left, our stove which had been working fine that morning, was no longer even working! They did try to get it going again, but in the end, they ended up leaving us with a non functioning pellet stove and still taking our check for the full services. We called the maker of the pellet stove who sent someone out the next day to look it over and from what we witnessed when THEY cleaned the stove was that Old Tyme Chimney Sweep did not have the expertise to be charging us for that service. We should have called Harmon Iron in the first place because they actually took the machine apart to clean all of the junk inside of it (like we wanted, and had expected from the other company!!) and unfortunately we had to pay them AGAIN for the job of cleaning the stove. Basically Old Tyme Chimney Sweep duped us out of the $190 they charged us for their cleaning which basically did not clean much and left the stove NOT WORKING. The reason it was not working by the way was just a lose wire which the experienced Harmon man was able to pinpoint and fix almost immediately. They also pointed out that the back of the pellet stove was rusted because of rain coming down the chimney and that we should have a chimney cap put in. I'm not sure if Old Tyme Chimney Sweep should have suggested that to us, or our roofer who was here earlier in the year, but that was another area where someone dropped the ball for us. All in all, if you need a chimney swept and inspected, these guys did a decent job. BUT, if you need a pellet stove cleaned or inspected, do NOT hire this company to do so!!!! I just wish they told us that they didn't do them and then we would have found someone more suitable for that part of the job. I also did not appreciate them charging us the full amount when they left us with the machinary not working! They left with no suggestions for us and no additional help offered knowing that it now did not work. That does not seem like a reputable business move to me. They said "we just clean them, we aren't technicians, it is not our fault or responsibility". Luckily it was only a couple hundred dollars, but we still feel "had" by this company.

We scheduled an estimate with the company in September 2013, which took place on 9/30/13. The owner, Dan, arrived exactly at the agreed-upon time. He thoroughly explained the repair process and gave us a very reasonable estimate, with the work scheduled for 10/30/13. Due to a cancellation, Dan was able to do the work today, 10/23/13. As with the first appointment with Dan, he appeared precisely on time, after which he and his two very good assistants went to work. Due to a problem with the chimney, the project took approximately 60-90 minutes longer than he anticipated. Nonetheless, he honored the original estimate without hesitation, and performed great work from what we can tell at this early stage. In short, Dan and Old Tyme Chimney Sweep are everything one could ask for in a company: prompt, professional, reasonable, and they perform great work. I cannot recommend this company more highly, and will pass along their information whenever possible.

Dan opened the stuck damper and found the chimney was in like new condition. Certainly not in need of cleaning. He was very professional and personable. His charge for fixing the damper and inspecting the chimney was very reasonable. I would definitely recommend Old Tyme Chimney Sweep.
