he owner came to our house and gave us an oral estimate for repointing our brick chimney and brick steps. We should have asked for a written estimate, because we weren't on the same page regarding what was covered for repointing our front steps. We thought repointing meant replacing all of the mortar/point in the steps, but only a small part of the point was replaced. The original service took place in October. We called to address the problems with the steps and asked them complete the work. We had to wait over a month for them to come back. When they finally did come back, it was too late in the season for the point to cure correctly on our brick steps and now the point has cracked over the winter. Both of the service people who completed the work in October and November were professional and arrived promptly, but even the person who came the second time commented on the many places where the point was still cracked and that the job done by his colleague was incomplete. We gave a grade of C on responsiveness because although phone calls were answered promptly, we had to go to the bottom of the waiting list to have the job completed correctly.

Jim arrived on time and was very courteous and professional. I was very impressed by his depth of knowledge and suggestions to re mediate our problems. He said he would send an estimate over for the work that needed to be done - and I still have yet to receive one. Amended review: Jim contacted me a few days later to see why he received my initial review (above) and to make sure I got the estimate. I didn't receive it the first go round, but I did receive it upon his follow up email. I have changed my ratings to reflect my most recent exchange with Jim. I did not have Jim perform work, so this review is only based on my consultation with him. As I mentioned, he seemed very knowledgeable and was an overall nice guy, answering all of my questions, etc.

Jim responded quickly to my inquiry. He showed up on time for the estimate, and I found Jim to be personable and profressional. He also mentioned up front that by the time he could get to work for me, it might be too cold and so it would be done in the spring. I appreciated that.

The work itself was fine but it did take quite a while to get scheduled as it was a smaller job.

They did a great job; they were able to finish the job in one day and were very considerate of our desire to keep to the original look and aesthetic of our older brick home.

Scheduling did take a while but was OK. They let me know they were about 8 weeks out and came out as scheduled. The work looks just fine and they did a good job. They've done work for us before.

Communication was fine with them. They let us know when the work could be done, which was about a month later. The work took a team of 3-4, about 3-4 days to complete. At the end, I pointed out some things I feel they had missed and the foreman completed these promptly in a half a day. Their pricing was very reasonable. Their responsiveness and professionalism are what stood out over other estimates we received.

They came out once to remove the old concrete and laid new concrete in the forms. Then, once the concrete dried, they came out and sealed the concrete. There was one additional step that needed to be replaced that did raise the cost quite a bit, by about $600. Overall, they did a good job and completed the work in a timely manner. They were more prompt in responding than other contractors who provided estimates to us.

They’ve always been great every time I’ve used them. Jim is awesome and his team is also very good. The work and costs were as expected and reasonable. I recommend them to others.

My front stairs came out very beautiful. This was quite a job Masonworks crew worked very hard to demolish and re-place the front brick stairs. I love the granite slads they used and the nice red brick. I have received many complements on Masonworks job.The crew was respectful they were careful not to dirty or damage my new front door. It took about a week to do this work because of weather conditions. Masonworks crew came in on Saturday to make up for the raining day . I am impressed with this Company. The estimate was writen in detail and although this was not the lower bid I got I felt comfortable hiring them. They showed that they knew what they were doing. I would recommend Masonworks to all my friends

It went well. I liked the way the quoted the project and they way they performed the work. they inadvertently switched the intake and exhaust lines for a gas stove at the bottom of the chimney, but had no issues with returning to make adjustments and fix the problem.

Jim was great to deal with and got me an estimate that was accurate and included everything. He contacted me via email (my preferred) a few days before the work started right at the early end of the 4-6 weeks that he was booked out. The 2 crew and Jim showed up on time and were very friendly. They explained what they were going to do and were ready to go. Jim did some inside work and was very clean leaving no footprints or marks. He showed me how to use the new damper and went over the work. Unfortunately the cap didn't fit so they had to come back and again was polite and prompt. I'm very impressed. Be patient with emails, he always returned them within 24 hours but it was usually in the late afternoon hours.

Another chimney mason could begin work earlier, and so we hired him. Cannot write about the quality of the work done by this firm, as we did not do any work through them. However we were impressed by his knowledge and patience in examining the home and explaining what needed to be done.

Jim was punctual and cordial and honest. He charges much more reasonably than some others on this site. When he came to make the estimate he honestly said that in the process of repointing the chimney he might break some slates on the roof, which he would not have the ability to repair and would add to my cost. Per slate it's quite expensive so as part of the estimate I offered Jim a gambler's deal -- he could break 9 slates and I'd pay, but with the 10th broken slates he'd pay all. He didn't break a single one, the work happened very fast and he made some helpful suggestions about the rest of the house. A plus

Readily able to schedule site visit for estimate. Estimated sent by email in timeframe expected. Fair price in comparison to other estimate. Work completed in timeframe discussed. Arrived first thing in AM. Both masons were efficient and professional. Warned us to close windows to avoid dust from grinding. Left job site clean at end of day. Can definitely recommend.

The work started exactly on schedule, was completed quickly with prompt follow up and removal of frames and debris. The groundwork was very professional and I've no doubt this concrete will last a long time.

Joe and his crew came in and tore out the old bricks and worked in amazingly fast time to rebuild the sub-surfaces and place the new limestone treads. His workers were very pleasant and explained a few things as I asked. They cleaned up well. The were willing to come back and remove two landing pieces that were in the way of the carpenters working in the same area by the door as they were in their way to get at rotted wood under the door. They returned twice at my request; once for the carpenters to work and second to come back and acid wash the dustiness off the treads. Great guys. All willing to please and the price was competative and had an Angies list discount. I would use them again.

I have had a wonderful experience with them. The service went very good.

I manage many properties around the city of Boston, and I work with many contractors. I am always for their wary of their claims and capabilities. I found this company on Angie's list, and in my home town; I Called them and after going back and forth with ideas and negotiating cost, I hired them to do the work. I was surprised, they beat my expectations. It is a large job; they honored every part of the contract and more. They were in and out in seven days. I called them a week later for some additional minor details, they came back and took care of it. Good company, good team. I highly recommend them.

I thought they did an outstanding job. They came when they said and finished when they said. It looks terrific and I am perfectly satisfied. In terms of price quality and responsiveness, everything was great.

everything was cleaned.the actual work was well done, but the workers were not careful to minimize the dust around the house. The objects in the basement were not covered to protect from the dust and the workers scratched the floors on the living room and the kitchen. as they passed by going between the basement and the yard. Whenever I had wall work before, the objects around the house and the floors were covered and when the job was done

Jim and his crew arrived and worked as scheduled. Jim kept me informed as to what would be done each day. Work took roughly 1 1/2 weeks for excavation, building of rock wall, addition of substrate for driveway, construction of forms for concrete, pouring of concrete, and cleanup of debris afterwards. He hired a separate subcontractor for the concrete forms and pouring. The drive and walkways look beautiful, and they cover exactly the areas I requested. Prior to any of the listed work, they also had to build a silt fence because the property backs up to wetlands/conservation land. Jim worked with the town's Conservation Administrator for the silt fence, and he kept the dimensions of the driveway down to the original square footage (no additional coverage) as I had agreed to do with the City. I am very happy with American Made Masonry's work and plan to hire them again for work within my house.

It went well. Things are fine. The crazy part of it was I never met them like stuff I needed done was outside, they took care of it and I paid them and I never even met them. They showed up when they said they were going to show up. They took care of the problem.

We have not started the job yet but will update post when we have the work done.
