I live out of the area and I had one week when I would be back in the area to accomplish a few masonry jobs at a house I own. Jim was the only person to both respond quickly via Angie's List and actually follow through promptly to get me an estimate. Several other companies initially responded and then left me hanging (even after reminding them). The crew showed up when they said they would, they were flexible when the scope of the job expanded unexpectedly. The job was done on time and looked great, and his crew was courteous to me and the other folks working at the house. Masonry work is expensive, and this was no exception. Based on the other quote I received, the estimate for the work was fair but not the least expensive I had received. I would definitely call Jim again next time.

My experience with Jim (owner of AMM) was great from the start. He answered the phone personally (didn't have to go through a messaging service), listened to my situation and request, offered initial input verbally and set up a meeting to come by the next day (a weekend day, no less). He even took time after the call to review a timeline and photo set of the project I emailed him, and respond with follow-up input and options. On the day of the meeting, he called to keep me in the loop on his arrival time, and spent quality time with us to answer questions that ran the gamet of driveways, specs, quality, deterioration, installation, curing, etc. Throughout our full course of interactions, he was also friendly, helpful, responsive, knowledgeable/experienced and candid - exactly what I needed! He has been a big help to us in our challenge of determining whether we can keep the driveway with its known and probably defects or need to replace it. Thanks so much, Jim!

Masonry and More fit the job into his busy schedule so that the roofer could come in and begin repairs. Mr. Santos was prompt and worked industriously to finish the job so the roofer could begin his work early. The chimney was not very tall and his price was very fair. My husband and I were very much pleased and are hoping to use him for some landscaping work in the spring.

I received an acceptable estimate in mid-April and paid down 1/3 deposit. Then I didn't hear from them again until I wrote in July, August and September to remind them that the job needed doing. Apparently, the carpenter, who was going to build the new stairs after the concrete the steps had been demolished, had lost his business partner. Finally, they started the work in September, and it turned out to be a lot more demanding than anticipated, and a lot more work. They worked a good three weeks off and on at demolishing the concrete, and brought in a jack hammer only during the third week, so the demolition was mostly by hand with big mallets, really back breaking, slow work. I was told that initially they thought they could just take off the top of the concrete stairs and build the new stairs over the remains, but the building inspector required that new footings be dug to secure the new stairs. That of course was a lot more work than they first estimated, and consequently I was billed over 70% above the written pricing estimate. Then they built the new stairs and installed them, including two new fiberglass columns that still need painting. The work was finally finished at the end of October, but there is still a lot of equipment that is stored in my yard (wood planks, wheel barrow, etc.) that they have yet to pick up (Nov. 23 as I write this review). The new stairs look very good, and I'm pleased with them. But the faulty estimate was really disappointing and very costly. The mason assures me that no one made any money on this work, but that's hardly a consolation for the homeowner who trusts that estimates will be accurate, give or take a reasonable 10% or so. When I say I wouldn't hire them again, it applies only to the mason, but I would hire again the carpenter who was subcontracted to build the new stairs. Also I want to say that they agreed for me to pay the $3,500 cost overrun in monthly increments, for which I'm grateful.
Description of Work: American Made Masonry demolished my concrete front steps and subcontracted to build new stairs made of composite material. They had to support a portico above the landing, and dig deep for new footings.
The masonry work quality appears to be good. Cement patch is on the driveway from where they mixed the cement. Some additive they used left rust-like stain on bluestone that wasn't previously there. Chunks of old cement were left on the ground and our front bushes were badly trimmed back despite our asking the hedges not to be trimmed (we could have pulled them out of way). Tried to schedule in advance but I was given less than 24 hours notice that they were coming to do the job.
Description of Work: Repaired front steps and put a cap on chimney. Stairs required resetting blue stone completely.

Jim Linskey at American Made Masonry came promptly to inspect the job and give me a quote. It wasn't the lowest quote, but not far off and he answered all my questions when I was deciding between him and another contractor (the other guy, Masonworks, didn't). Jim was honest about his schedule--it took about 3 months for the work to start after I paid my deposit. He contacted me to let me know they were ready to start just about the time I was thinking I should check in with him. Jim and his crew showed up when he promised (the next day) and got the work done in a couple of days as estimated. I thought they did a great job re-laying the brick for my walkway (no more puddles when it rains) and the re-pointing around the foundation looks great. I wasn't too happy with how one side of the walkway looked and I spent a Sunday afternoon fixing it myself. They also could have been more careful about my front yard where they stored all their stuff (granted it wasn't in great shape to start with). The work on the steps was also a bit sloppy. My sense was (I wasn't home) that the crew left in a hurry on the last day (Jim was only there at the start). However, they did come right back a day or two later, after I told Jim about it, to fix problems with the steps and a small section of the foundation that had been overlooked. Overall I am happy with the work. I can't really give them an "A" because everything wasn't "excellent," but overall it was "good."
Description of Work: * Re-lay brick walkway from steps to sidewalk (about 20' x 4', included repair/repointing of brick front steps & landing) * Repoint exterior foundation (front and side up to repaired area), 45 linear feet x about 2' high

These guys did a great job, with an absolute minimum of mess. They came when they said they would, cleaned up as they went along, never disturbed me (I have a home office and work there full-time), were quiet and respectful - not blasting music, and did really, really high-quality work. I would use them again in a second!

The stairs and platform are fine. However, the the extension of the concrete and flag stone walkway are the problem. It looked very nice when it was completed. However, after the first winter the concrete between the flagstones began to deteriorate and now in some places is just like sand. Jim came out and inspected and agreed that it was not in good condition. He asked if I used salt and I said yes but not a lot and it did not affect the old portion of the walkway at all. He said he would fit it in around his other work as it was not a big job. That was in about April. I called him a month or two latter and he said it was still on his schedule. I called him twice in the past month and he has not returned my call. A concrete walkway should last more than 2 or 3 years
Description of Work: Rebuilt a set of 70 year old brick steps and small platform at the front door. Also extended the concrete and flagstone walk by about 5 feet to meet the new stairs.

This was, by far, the best experience I've had on Angie's List. Steve was incredibly professional and extremely attentive in his work. He called me back within an hour of my buying an Angie's List deal for 100 square feet of concrete. He showed up on time for our appointment the next day to see the work that needed to be done. He measured the area, which turned out to be exactly 100 ft2 and I asked him to look at the back porch to see what he could do to make it serviceable as the bricks were all falling out and the mortar was crumbling. There weren't even stairs there as the top layer of bricks had all broken off! Steve gave me a price of 2,500 to replace the brick of the stairs with limestone and repair all of the damage to the base of the staircase, as well as filling in all cracks and spaces which could have led to ice forming and doing more damage to the staircase. When I asked when he could get started, I was shocked when he told me he could start in two days as the forecast was rainy for the next few days. The next day the rain forecast changed and Steve called to ask if they could start right away! Whenever I'd bought an Angie's list deal in the past, I was told I'd have to wait 2-3 months, which was also the time frame given to me by others I had contacted about repairing the stairs. Just five days later, my back porch looked like new and I had off street parking spaces in front of my house for the winter (Steve had added onto an existing sidewalk I had already had in front of the house to make it wide enough to park)! Every time he was on his way, Steve called to tell me he was coming and stayed until he was finished with what he was working on, once, even until 9 pm. with little light. Both Steve and his assistant were polite and hard working. They both cleaned up after the work they did. He was, by far the most professional Angie's List contractor I have dealt with. I only wish I had taken before and after pictures of the falling apart back porch so you could see the transformation. l will definitely use Tabaldi Masonry in the future and recommend him to anyone looking for this kind of work to be done!

We replaced brick steps that had concrete risers that were about 40 years old and were deteriorating badly, especially after last winter when we used a lot of salt on them. The landing had been made of bluestone, and pieces were coming loose as the mortar around them crumbled. The new steps are granite with brick risers that match the brick at the front of the house. Some of the contractors we had interviewed before hiring American Made had told us that they would be unable to match the house brick, which is what we had previously on the risers. But, this didn't pose a problem for American Made. We are pleased with the outcome and the process. Jim Linskey and American Made Masonry were professional, courteous, considerate of our needs, and they cleaned up well after the job was done. The only drawback with using American Made is that they are busy. In our case, they were booked the entire summer, which they told us when they provided the estimate in May. So, they held our deposit for some four months before beginning work on the job. This was expected, but for some people, it might be a concern. Jim Linskey responded promptly to our email messages when we had questions about scheduling.

Jim and his crew did a great job and the end walkway and stairs look fantastic. The finished product reflects quality, experience and craftsmanship brought to the job. When talking to the crew, it was clear they took pride in their work and enjoyed working Jim. The work lasted for three and one-half days. At the end of each work day, the area was totally cleaned and my yard was left spotless. I called for an estimate in March so I could get on the construction schedule before summer. Jim quickly retuned my call and did a drive by to inspect the steps and walkway. The condition of the steps and multiple walkways on top of each other required a total removal of the walkway and total rebuild of the steps. The previous material used for the stair treads was limestone. Jim pointed out the shortcomings of limestone and I chose to use granite for the rebuild. Upon Jim?s recommendation, I upgraded to use thermal bluestone. In addition to thermal bluestone being cut to a uniform thickness, the stones have a non-slip, consistent surface that provides for solid traction when the stone gets wet. It also gave the walkway a modern look.
Description of Work: Two projects included in work: 1) Rebuild front steps with new brick risers, new granite treads/returns and new bluestone on inner platform for $3,975. 2) Total removal of a 23-foot long walkway (consisting of 3 walkways on top of each other) and replacement with a new bluestone walk with metal edging for $5,675.
