I did not hire them.
Description of Work: They quoted the replacement of my front wall and stairs at TWICE the amount of what other masons quoted, and also only wanted to gave me a one year warranty on their work. For a $16,000.00 plus job that is absurd! They are extremely overpriced and do not even seem to want to guarantee their work. That is not a credible company in my opinion. Not good.

We priced this job according to going rates. One year warranties are standard among the industry. We are happy that she found a good deal.

We did not go with them. They were very responsive. We called them on a Saturday and they came out that Sunday, which was great. The man who came out was helpful and polite. He said he would have the estimate within a few days and I had to call him. He said that he had some flooding at his own house and that had delayed the process. He did get the estimate within a couple of days after I called.

This is the first time since we purchased our home in 1977, that we have not had water in our basement. I am extremely pleased with the quality of their work. They showed up on time, the work was done in the time frame I was given. They were neat and cleaned the area after they were finished. I couldn't have asked for a better company to deal with. I would recommend this company anytime.
Description of Work: My basement had a terrrible water problem. It is an old house and it had a slate/rock foundation. It was always taking water in. I had American Made Masonry come in and they removed all of the old mortar and repointed and waterproofed my basement, as well as some small repair to my chimney.

I asked American Made Masonry to give me an estimate for fixing brick front steps. They offered to set up several estimates with various levels of services regarding the steps and the front porch (flagstone). I agreed, and I decided to have them re-point my flagstone porch and the surrounding bricks, fix the front steps, and replace the tread bricks with sealed limestone for about $1500. Because it was an especially busy summer, there was a bit of a wait between the estimate date and the work date, but we weren't in a huge rush, and I understood that this is the busy season for this kind of work. They arrived when they said they would and got right to work. In the course of working on the front steps, the underlying material had completely crumbled and was not usable, so the steps would have to be completely rebuilt rather than simply repaired. This did add to the final price, but because it wasn't expected as part of the estimate, and it was a reasonable expense related to steps that were on their way out, I approved the work to be done at the requested price. They completed their work in about 7 hours, and did a decent job cleaning up (though how clean can grinding out about 50 square feet of mortar be?). There was mortar dust pretty much everywhere, which was to be expected, but after a couple of rains it was all gone. The finished product was fantastic. They reset and re-pointed the flagstone porch, re-pointed the bricks that go around the porch, and rebuilt the steps with limestone treads. It looks great, it's safer, and it will last longer. They did a great job. All exchanges with the company's people were pleasant, and they always responded promptly to e-mails which was appreciated. I would definitely recommend them to anybody needing masonry work.
Description of Work: Rebuilt brick front steps, added sealed limestone treads, re-pointed adjoining flagstone porch and surrounding bricks.

The project exceeded my expectations in every way. First, Jim was able to accommodate my schedule and he showed up exactly when he said. The project was challenging, because there was an intricate brick design on our 1920s Tudor that he had to replicate and match with both mortar color and brick. He was able to save me a lot of money (over other estimates), by simplifying the design of the replacement chimney without sacrificing the uniqueness of the design itself. The new chimney is stunning. His crew came in on time and on budget. They cleaned up exceptionally well and were very respectful of our home and yard while they were there. I couldn't give a stronger recommendation.
Description of Work: Jim and his team rebuilt from the roof up an intricate chimney on our brick Tudor and repointed the entire chimney. The chimney itself is very prominent - tall and located right in the center of the house, surrounded by a slate roof. So while it was crumbling, it had to be replaced so it looked original to the house.

Our house had an addition put on long before we purchased it, but the basement of the addition was never connected to the basement under the original portion of the house. For a long time we?d wanted to remove a section of foundation wall to connect the two halves, but the contractors we spoke to about performing the work never instilled us with any confidence, and always left us with a sense of trepidation. We finally turned to Angie?s list and found Jim Linskey of American Made Masonry. Jim was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process. We called him on a Saturday to express interest in his services and he returned our call promptly. We scheduled an appointment for an estimate to be performed and he showed up the following week on time. He was crystal clear about what he could accomplish for us, how he would do it, and what we needed to do to prepare for the work. He was very clear about his time frame for performing the work, and his estimate was spot on. The day that the work was performed he came out with one of his employees and in a very no-nonsense, professional manner, completed the job in six hours?I thought it would take him twelve. As the work progressed he?d occasionally check in with us to ask questions and go over things?he left no stone unturned and managed our expectations professionally. When we decided to throw him a curve and grow the scope of the project a little he wasn?t bothered by it: he did the work without hesitation or frustration and actually provided us with a solution that was better that the one we had originally concocted. Jim was always professional and courteous. He also proved to be very trustworthy. He broke our shop fan by accident, but then told us about it, and demanded that he pay for it. How many people would do this?

Foundation and floor were definitely worth the $$. We would highly recommend American Made Masonary.
Description of Work: We winterized an existing structure by having a cement floor poured and cinder block foundation added below structure in hopes to better retain heat in the winter. American Made Masonary responded promptly to my original request for a quote and once I returned their call they came the same evening to take measurements for the quote. Itemized detailed quote was provided within a couple of days and work was performed within a couple of weeks. Work was completed in freezing cold temperatures and each day worksite was cleaned up before the workers left for the day.

Although their schedule was quite full, they contacted us several times to see if they could squeeze us into an unexpected opening they had. They were prompt, always consulted with us to be sure the right decision was made. The contractor who came to fit the fireplace for a custom glass door commented that whoever did the masonry, made the opening perfectly plumb making his job much easier. As is always the case, the job was much more complicated than planned due to the poor quality of the original work necessitating two days instead of a half day. Jim contacted us about the original estimate and asked if he could make an adjustment due to the unforeseen problems to which we agreed. We are very pleased with the finished stone work and will use American Made Masonry again for some outdoor work.

Jim and his partner were great to work with and did a fine job. Our new stairs look fabulous. Their price was hard to beat and they did a good job. For home owners who dread working with another contractor who rarely shows up on time, consistently delays project completion, and misses details, welcome to a breath of fresh air when working with American Made Masonry. Jim Linskey returned our call within 24 hours and personally came out to survey and estimate the work needed. He gave us an honest, no nonsense problem appraisal. He spent some time measuring and assessing the site to be sure he understood what was needed. We received his quote in 2 days. Several days before starting the project, he notified us of when equipment and supplies would be delivered-and they arrived exactly when he said they would. Once they began the crew worked non-stop over the course of 4 days until the job was completed. Jim was there the entire time working and supervising the project.Their commitment even included erecting ad hoc scaffolding with tarps so they could work one day while it was raining. The bottom line is that there were absolutely no surprises, including no delays, no details overlooked, and no hidden costs. Working with them was an absolute joy.
Description of Work: Removed existing front steps and rebuilt new brick and bluestone steps. Removed current paver walkway and laid new pavers. Cleaned and relaid granite steps,

Chimney bricks fell out at the top and it was clear that a problem I had negelcted for years was really bad on main chimney venting the gas furnace. Second chimney needed a bit of pointing. Got 3 estimates from Angie's List companies - this one was literally a third of the highest bid. All companies came promptly and gave written/email estimates. I actually thought the bid was too low, and Jim Linsky (owner/mason) even included putting a cap on the second chimney that vents the hot water heater (which the others did not). The spring/summer season was awful for his timing with all the rain, so he kept me notified by email and came when he said he thought he would - with an email letting me know just before as he promised. I had emailed him to touch base twice, and he answered and reassured me he would be able to do the work as promised. He came with his crew, and quickly found that the chimneys were in far greater disrepair (as I suspected from the other estimates) than he had thought - the mortar basically fell apart. A job I think he thought he could do in 1 or 1.5 days took him 2 full days. He reluctantly asked me for more than his estimate of $1950, but I was happy to pay - he deserved it. I do not at all think he lowballed the bid either. He had to do a huge amount of rebuilding of the whole chimney tops. He was incredibly nice and did a fine job. Now I am not so interested in exact matching of the brick color or some of the other things that the higher estimates said they would do - if you want an historic restoration, maybe go with a higher bid. If you want a really good job done right with a good price, let Jim do it. I have had experience with masons before, and they are so outrageously expensive it is mind boggling. Price is a big deal when bids for essentially the same job can vary by 300%. I think it is a waste to pay too much for this kind of work. So, my bottom line is to let Jim do your chimney repair - he gave the lowest estimate, is a nice guy and did the work on time. The work was properly done. He also found that the last chimney guy who put in a cap did it wrong and hastened the ice damage of the chimney top - he did it the right way. I would call him for any masonry work, since I am sure he will outbid the others and do the right work. Another important thing to keep in mind is that your top rated construction company, Buonanno, uses him for their chimney work....that says a lot to me. Clean up could have been a little better, but I think saving thousands of dollars is worth it!

Terrific experience. Jim immediately called back following my inquiry and came out within a couple of days to provide an estimate for the work; the price was reasonable and we set up an appointment for the job. He was upfront about the timeframe to begin the work (the rainy spring/early summer delayed already scheduled projects with his company). Given that, he began work exactly within the timeframe he had quoted and completed the steps in 2 days; the estimate was right-on. The new front steps look fantastic and completely update the exterior of the house. I was very pleased with the results and they cleaned up everything after they finished the job. He also provided me with the name/number for someone who could put on new railings; my initial contact with that individual has been positive as well.

I got a quotation and agreed that they would undertake this work in the autumn, however neither piece of work was urgent and since I needed to be at home while the work was done on the chimney and this is more convenient for me in the summer I was willing for them to postpone it 'til this summer. In the end they rang up the day before they arrived to say they would start the next day. Advance planning doesn't seem to be their strongest point, but in every other respect they were excellent. Three men came, the masons Jim and Bobby (who I assume are partners in the business) and a silent man who did a lot of heavy lifting. They arrived early in the morning and worked hard. In the end the work took 5 days to complete as there was a problem with demolishing the old staircase. The quality of the finished work is excellent and they appeared to enjoy doing it! They were polite and pleasant to deal with throughout.

Jim came to quote for this and two other jobs. Because this job was indoors it could be done in the winter, but also required me to be at home. Jim was excellent about calling me back (despite my non-functioning answer-phone), but it took us a bit of time to fix a date he and his partner could manage and I could be at home. I guess that since a lot of their work is dependent on the weather, they are used to arranging things at a few days notice - unfortunately my job doesn't work quite like that, but Jim was prepared to keep trying and once we had fixed a time, they turned up promptly, worked hard all morning and completed the job. It's just a wall in an unfinished basement but it definitely looks much better than it did before.

I was on the fence between Jim and another masonry company, and in the end my wife made my decision to go with the other company she was more comfortable with (the clincher was a larger number of referrals). I received a prompt reply from Jim after calling American Made Masonry about my job. Jim visited the property and made a number of recommendations based on his thoughts, as well as how I could save some money or spend a little extra to add a few additional touches. He was respectful and professional. Jim was highly knowledgeable. His prices were very competitive, and his warranty was excellent. He returned all calls and followed-up diligently. If there had been any problems with the firm we did hire or if the firm we hired is unavailable in the future, I would have had no issues in calling American Made Masonry. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: A retaining wall composed of fieldstone was in danger of collapse and needed to be repaired. The fieldstone foundation on an addition was worn away and needed some repointing. Jim was a lucky, lucky find. He was so hard working and conscientious - he really knew what he was doing with the stone work. Jim arrived every morning punctually, and worked diligently for a week on the piers (he knocked out the firebox job for us on a rainy day). He did the work on his own with care and diligence (didn't send in a crew); he is a skilled craftsman who clearly likes his work. He started the job when he said he would and left the place spotless. We knew we were in good hands with him and recommend him without any reservation whatsoever. By the way, his quote was the best of the three I collected.
Description of Work: Re-laid approximately 80% of stone piers on either side of front stairs. Repointed the remaining 20% and filled core solid. Repointed where needed on rest of foundation.
