We were very impressed with the entire process with American Made Masonry. They provided a quote quickly and it covered all of the components we had discussed. They communicated with us frequently and professionally. Their work was thorough and they were clean and organized. We've received many compliments from friends and neighbors about their finished product.
Description of Work: American Made Masonry came to our home and assessed the condition of our pre-cast concrete steps that had deteriorated. They recommended replacement and we discussed the materials and method. They removed the concrete steps and installed and brand new brick and granite set.

We needed the concrete steps at the entrance repaired - there were holes and cracks on all sides. They responded to my initial call very quickly, and came out to do an estimate in a couple of days. The quote was reasonable and we decided to move ahead. It was going to be two weeks later, but I told them I have family visiting soon. Two of them found an opening within the next couple of days and did the job in a day. The restoration came out very well - better than what I thought could be done. They honored the Angieslist discount too. Great experience working with them.

I found their name on Angies list, and once I spoke with Jim, I liked the company. They were on time for the estimate appointment, and were professional, helpful and reasonably priced. They did the job as promised, and I could not be happier with the results.
Description of Work: Removed old brick staircase and replace it with a new staircase made with brick and granite. Also replaced all old rotten wood prior to installing the new staircase, so it would be secure. They did an outstanding job!!

Things went fine at the time, except the sump pump work was very sloppy looking (cement not smoothed around the hole, but rather lumpy and piled up). The repair of the crack in the basement floor was also really sloppy (again, not smoothed over, cement got on kick plate of bulkhead door). Just over a year out, the chimney needs to be redone, with an A-rated mason I found on Angie's List pointing out how the repointing was not done right (cement is flush with the brick face, rather than recessed). Two other masons have made the same comment. It's tough to write this report because Jim was a nice guy, was really responsive, and gave me a great price. But in the end, that's all worthless when you have half the work needing to be redone a year later, and the part that doesn't need to be redone, you wish did need to be redone because of how much it looks like a hack job. It makes you question whether he was properly trained or not. Maybe these just aren't the kinds of jobs he's best at, so I can't say overall that he's not someone I'd use, but for the work I did use him for, which he said he had experience with, he clearly did not do a good enough job at any price. The estimate to fix the chimney is $4,000, by the way, vs $2,800 Jim charged me for all of the work he did (including buying the sump pump).

Good job. They showed up every day @ 7 AM and didn't leave 'till 4 or 5 PM until the job was finished (aprox. 2 wks. Good workers. I had the feeling they were a group of young guys trying to break into a market dominated by other more established contractors. I got a quality installation delivered on time @ the quoted price. When issues w the membrane came up, they were responsive to my concerns and we found a solution to the problem. At the start of the job, I specified technical details that were important to me and they complied. I would suggest getting a written agreement (you or they write) to make sure there are no surprises. The wrought iron railings were not done by this firm. I located another vendor from Angie's list that is building the railings now. Consider using a galvanized steel coated w your color of choice. (search colorgalv). No one wants rust stains on their new granite deck. I wouldn't hesitate using them again. Quality work. Fair pricing.
Description of Work: Summary: Removal of existing 16 X 18 ft. PT wood deck and steps and replacement w granite deck & steps. 2 ply membrane installed over existing concrete sub decking (as required to form water barrier). Installation of 2 X 3 ft. granite slabs w mud job (pitched for drainage away from house) Installation of four, one piece granite steps (6 ft.) The work went very well both times. For the stone wall, it took several weeks after signing the contract to start the job, due to weather and other work. Once begun, the repair took about a week. The job was more difficult than expected due to embedded boulders in the existing wall, which were not obvious at the beginning. The crew left the work site tidy at the end of each day. They did a great job on the wall and on the garden steps. The second job, repair of the front steps, was a one-day job. I e-mailed Jim on a Sunday morning about the job and he was at our home on Sunday afternoon to look it over and provide an estimate. I was also planning some landscaping around the steps, and we discussed how the two jobs should be sequenced. Jim contacted me a few weeks later on Tuesday to let me know that he would be out on Thursday to do the repair. Since the landscapers were in the middle of their work, I was unsure about having both crews at the same time since they might get in each others way. It ended up working out very well and both work crews got along fine. The quality of the repair appears excellent.
Description of Work: American Made has completed two jobs for us in the last year. The first was the repair of 20-25 feet of stone wall on one side of the driveway. This required dismantling the existing wall, moving it about 18 inches to widen the driveway, and then reconstructing the wall. This job also included reconstruction of some stone garden steps (Total: $5000). The second job was repair of stone front steps which were showing signs of water damage. The steps were pressure washed, broken stones repaired, re-pointed where needed, and a new stucco coat was applied ($1120).

It was a pleasure to work with these guys. I had a mason come out to give me an estimate before I found them, and he wanted to convince me that I should replace my whole stairs and gave me a ridiculous quote. I then emailed AMERICAN MADE MASONRY, sent them some pictures of the brick stairs that needed to be repaired and got a reasonable quote right away. They met me at the condo as scheduled and got the work done. The stairs look great. They replaced two bricks, repaired some cracks and fixed the loose railing. I couldn't be more happy.

Jim and his guy did a great job for a great price. We needed to get the foundation repointed and didn't get to it until late in the season. They fit us in and made it happen. One night we came home and found an area that had not set well -probably due to weather- and I sent him an email about it and they were out very quickly to fix it. We were very satisfied with our overall experience.
Description of Work: On the exterior we had the entire exposed portion of the foundation repointed and an interior wall in the garage done as well.

Jim and his team completed the work as planned and informed me pro-actively when he and his team members needed to do snowplowing because of upcoming storms. There were days when they were here when I was out of town and Jim made sure that my wife and 4 year old daughter were'nt burdoned and my wife definitely felt comfortable with them being around. Jim is a straight shooter and also a relationship builder and will make sure you're happy. He has a down to earth crew (=low overhead) and will not over commit.
Description of Work: They repointed my crumbling basement walls (used mini-jackhammers and brushes to get to all the old cement and then injected new cement), then they covered the walls with a stucco-like substance to provide a decent seal. Note this wasn't a full waterproofing exercise as (i) we don't need it and (ii) that would have required a full move of all our plumbing pipes etc.. Per Jim's advice, we waited 2 weeks to see whether we liked the look of the new cleaned up grey walls. In the end we decided to have him and his team paint the walls white and also put a coat of special floor paint on the basement floor. Our grotty, spider-webby, sandy basement (~ 65' x 20') has now been transformed into a clean and manageable space. Exactly what we wanted.

We didn't hire them. I found them on Angie's list and traded some voice mails with them and set up a time. He came and he talked to us very knowledgeably about the project to set up the business. A couple of days later, he gave an estimate. The guy seemed knowledgeable and he seemed busy so he didn't give us a lot of time. His quote could have been more explainable. He just jotted some numbers down. We would have liked a bit more explanation and that's really why we didn?t choose him. I may use him for a different project in the future.

They came out as per schedule. They seemed nice, efficient and professional. There was nothing great or nothing horrible about them. The guy who came out looked at the foundation and said that it needed simple patches. He said that he would have to dig out and fix the foundation. He wasn?t pushy. He seemed professional. It was worth getting a quote from them. He is the only pure mason I got a quote from and so I haven?t yet taken a decision if I would go with him or get quotes from other masons. They scheduled and came out when they promised. I would use their services again.

I called American Made Masonry to rebuild my crumbling cement steps after I had used them to waterproof my basement earlier in the year. Jim came out promptly to give me an estimate and gave me an approximate date for the start of the work. He called the week before to let me know when exactly he'd be coming. Jim and his crew came and built a beautiful new set of brick stairs with limestone treads. They finished the job in two days and cleaned up well. Once again, I was really pleased with my experience with American Made Masonry.

I took approximatelly 7 estimates and Jim's won. I have house situated on slope and we needed to build retaining wall on the back. I also had to repair steps with two flower planters in front of the house. Steps on the front of the house has 3 landings. The work included resurfacing house foundation with natural veneer stones. As i mentioned all work was done with natural stones. They built retaining wall with steps on backyard. The house has too much steps in the front so we did major replacement only this year as rebuilding steps coming to the house with 3 landings and two flower planters (they built them rather from scratch). Still need to do steps coming from street, big front retaining walls, driveway and walkways. That is not that Jim and Bob could do this all together, they definitely can. Simply I could not swallow this all together at once... Overall quality, price and their attitude earn full A that is for sure. I wish I could add before/after pictures here.

Jim provided an initial estimate which was in line with another mason, but he suggested using granite to rebuild the front steps rather than brick since it would be more durable. The team was punctual and the quality of the work was good, and I am particularly pleased with how the granite steps turned out. A couple of negatives are that they didn't cart away the old front railing metal, so I have some extra parts to dispose of on my own, and when they went to the back of the yard to wash out some of their equipment, they trampled some of my garden. But on the whole, the work was well done and I appreciated Jim's suggestions so I would use them again.

It went great! I first contacted Jim in June. He had a busy schedule, but since my basement was a one-day project we talked about finding a day when I would be home and they would be available sometime in the summer. Jim was hoping for a rainy day since the work was inside, but the summer was sunny until the end of August, when I went on vacation! When I came back, Jim called and offered to work on a Saturday. That was unexpected and I really appreciated his willingness to do the work before I returned to work in Sept. He arrived as he said at 7:30 AM, they worked until after 4 PM with a brief timeout for lunch. Jim checked in with me periodically to let me know how the work was going. We had discussed adding a bit to his estimate since he applied the U-Seal to a wall not originally covered by the estimate and it turned out to be the biggest job of all. That was fine with me. Jim was very friendly, always smiling when we spoke, very professional and easy to contract with. I remain very pleased at the work American Made Masonry did on Saturday.
Description of Work: In June, one of Jim's crew came over and gave me a free estimate. I hired Jim's company after I had rec'd other estimates and evaluations as I believed Jim's plan was what I needed and his estimate was fair. On the agreed day, Jim and his crew began work by examining the state of the basement walls so they could plan how to proceed. Then they applied U-Seal over the three walls that face the outside and had received water damage. They also repaired one of these (fieldstone) walls that had been more seriously damaged by water seepage. In addition, they removed, at my request, a small wooden connector with a set of 2 drawers between the electrical and water closets. They applied the sealer inside the closets as well as on the wall in between. They applied the seal very neatly up to ground level. I will eventually paint over it, but it looks fine for now because they applied it so evenly. The seal is a dark grey. They cleaned up nicely, too.
