These guys are great. It was nasty little job in a crawl space.Three guys showed up and crawled in and out of the space until it was done. They did a fantastic job, ontime , and without complaint.

Asked Jim for an estimate on the work about 6 months ago. Jim replied quickly, turned up on time for the estimate and provided one which, for the extent of work, was very fair. I had to delay getting the work done as part of the porch on the house needed work and so I had to first get the contractor who was doing that work to start so that Jim could come in while the porch was off, but before it was rebuilt and have easy access to the entire external foundation. For most contractors I think coordinating such a thing is more trouble than they can be bothered with, and from my perspective I expected it to be troublesome, however I was very pleasantly surprised. Jim was easy to communicate with throughout the process and made himself and his team easily accessible. As soon as the porch work was done they came in and did the external work. Given how the foundation looked initially the end result was outstanding. In addition, removal of the porch revealed additional problems that were quite significant. I had anticipated that this would lead to a large jump in the price from the estimate but Jim was extremely fair in dealing with this. I then had his team return in January to complete the work on the interior. The work was completed over 4 days. I am not an expert on foundation work but I believe they did a good job. They were prompt, courteous, professional and final price was inline with the estimate. The price above is for both parts of the work. I will be having my chimney repointed soon and will likely hire Jim again.

Jim came to give us a quote. The project took about five days to complete.
Description of Work: Jim and his team repaired our cracked front staircase. Many other contractors came to tell us that the stairs had to be completely rebuilt and that is not what we were looking for at the time. Jim assured us that we had options for a fix that would last us a number of years. He rebuilt the top step, made the steps level, repaired all the cracks, and added granite steps to replace the cement ones that have continued to crack year after year. He was friendly, prompt, very tidy, and extremely knowledgable.

I bought an angies list big deal - 4 hours of masonry for $100. I thought I'd be able to get some small thing touched up. It turns out that not much can be done in just 4 person-hours of masonry, and the lowest priced repair came in at $650. I didn't want to spend that much. I was understandably upset that I couldn't use my prepaid voucher. Jim was very professional and explained that I could get a refund from Angie's list, which I didn't even know they did. I called up, got the refund, and everything is all squared away now.

When I received estimates of the work it was much too expensive to have done. I put away the proposal and just today called them asking for a quote on doing some other masonry work. Although he was polite, he advised me that this particular Angie's List offer was only good until last June. I had purchased a $100.00 coupon in December 2011. There is no reference to an expiration date on his proposal. However, he did offer to give me a credit of $100.00 towards any work done. After explaining the work I needed done, I got the feeling that this job is really not worth coming to Acton from Burlington. I guess my best option would be to go with "word of mouth" recommendations from friends, and not put myself in a position of losing money when work estimation is too high after purchasing a coupon from companies associated with Angie's List.

Jim was fantastic - professional, polite and prompt, with reasonable prices. We had wood rot on four windows, caused by brick sills that tilted inwards and collected rainwater. We were replacing the windows and Jim was able to accommodate our schedule quickly. He recommended replacing the bricks with granite instead of new bricks. He also worked very well with the window replacement team and the finished product looks great. While he was doing the window work, we asked him to look at some crumbling cement in the corner of our garage. He quoted a price and was able to repair that wall on the same visit. He explained his work before he did it, which gave us confidence in his approach. Would definitely hire him again.

I had a series of things needing repair: fieldstone walls falling apart, cracked limestone as a wallcap and stair treads, and brick stairs looking junky. I called American Made Masonry because they were rated tops on Angie's List. I did not shop around since after calling them, I did not feel the need. My call was answered right away and, although a relatively small job, somebody came out in a timely manner to look at the work and offer several suggestions on how to go about the repairs, from inexpensive to very expensive. He arrived on time, was professional and expressed real interest in servicing me. He left and later sent prices for 3 variations. I called to confirm that I was hiring them and they told me it would be about 5 weeks till they got to me. The 5 weeks came and went and I did not hear from them, so I called. He got right back to me and I really don't remember the conversation, but the timing was acceptable. Then he called on a moment's notice to come that day - I couldn't do it, I was at work. Then it took a few back and forths for us to reschedule. It did take longer than I would have liked, but the overall experience was still very good. Anyway, we agreed on a date - they came that date and started the work. Once they got there and started the work, we started to discuss the brick steps further and what he originally thought looked okay to him (the old work, not his) started to bug him and he said that he couldn't leave knowing the steps looked like that and he spent 2 extra days at my house fixing the steps to look new. Everything looks great and I am happy. I feel that this company is skilled, hard working professional and honest. When I called, the gentleman who owned the company spoke to me, not a secretary. A secretary is not a bad thing, but I think a lot more gets accomplished speaking directly to the person in charge. I would use them again and I would recommend them to family and friends.

Next, Mr. Linsky sent me an email saying that he would be by at 8 am on Saturday as he had promised. It was then that I emailed him back that I no longer needed him to look at the project, as I had decided on a contractor. Interestingly, he was not only listed on Angie's list, but was also recommended by my neighbor's friend, a general contractor who does a lot of business in my area. He must be a really great mason, as I know that general contractor who recommended him, and highly respect his opinion. Most probably, I will ask Mr. Linsky for an estimate on the next masonry job I need done. My house is a 1947 Cape with original stone and masonry work, so it won't be long before I contact him again.
Description of Work: I requested estimates from several vendors, but then needed another estimate, as I needed the work done rather quickly. It was then that I contacted Jim Linsky by phone for an estimate to repair a foundation under my sun porch. One contractor immediately answered my email and then said he would come by witin a half an hour. Jim said he could stop by on Saturday, the only time that he had available. I actually went with the gentleman who stopped by right away, because his price was right and he really demonstrated expertise in the area I needed, and could get the job done in a timely manner.

I called Jim to come out and take a look at the foundation of our new-to-us 1872 farmhouse. He said it was in pretty good shape, much to my relief and I was delighted to have found a guy to was honest enough to turn down unnecessary work. As he was leaving, I asked if he could take a look at the foundation of the old carriage house/garage. Turns out that needed work. He and his partner and crew scraped out all the old motor and reinstalled stones which were loose and falling out. They installed additional posts to reinforce the floor of the side of the garage floor we park on. He was prompt, courteous and honest. The team was thorough. Thumbs up.

When they came out to look at the job, they said the work I wanted done could be easily covered with the amount in the big deal. After the work was complete, I received a bill for almost triple the cost. He didn't even call me to advise that the bill was more than the cost of the big deal. When I called to inquire about the extra costs, they said the work took longer because it rained. I think it was reaqlly poorly handled. I told him that he advised me that the work could be completed under the terms of big deal, but they did not honor it. I paid the bill at a medium between the big deal cost and his final price.

I’m sorry about the miscommunication regarding the cost of the job. We do our best to give accurate estimates, but sometimes things do not always go as planned. We always do our best to complete projects in a timely manner, but we also want to ensure they are done correctly and safely and in this case it required time over the coupon purchased.

1st. I met w Jim Linsky to discuss the project in March. We discussed 2 approaches to improving the appearance of the front steps. 2nd. Recd. a quote in April w two options. We chose the lower cost one.3rd. I sent Jim my list of requirements and specifications to minimize misunderstandings and establish contractual agreement.4th. Jim's crew started in mid. June on the concrete retaining walls as per spec. and finished in about 1 wk.5th. The granite slabs (2" thk.) were ordered by end of June and delivered by mid. July.6th. Work started @ end of July and the slabs were installed by Aug. 1 Overall, I was very pleased with Jim's responsiveness and attention to detail. His companies' work is excellent. This is third time I've used him for granite projects (deck, chimney repointing) and have been pleased with his work. Especially, I like his openness to suggestions and willingness to try new ideas (even when not his own) to deliver a quality project. Since I have skills in science/engineering and have done many home concrete projects, he was receptive to my suggestions and incorporated many of them in these projects.
Description of Work: They installed reinforced concrete retaining side walls on two sets of front steps (4 walls aprox. 4 ft high ea). Also, they installed fabricated granite slabs over the rough finished step "risers" that were installed yrs. ago by others. They needed improved appearance. The addition of the granite riser slabs (2" w bullnose detail) needed to be installed w special epoxy thin set mortar and secured with SS bolts into the existing concrete steps. (specified by owner to prevent frost separation and prevent rusting over long term).

Things went very well. I contacted them in the winter but they came back several months later to do the work. They did a thorough job, replaced some edging on our pathway (that wasn't in the estimate) and left us with a bag of stone filler that I could use myself on the driveway.
Description of Work: This was maintenance work. Our paver pathway had sprouts growing. I scraped between the cracks. They filled it in with a sand type material. We have a custom sandbox edged with pavers. The pavers were loose, they had never been cemented in place . They cemented them. We have 2 steps down to the basement. One step was loose. They cemented that for free.

Our big deal coupon allowed for 4 man hours of masonry work. When I came to look at the job, I explained that the work that needed to be done could not be completed in that amount of time, so therefore it would cost more. Before starting the work, I quoted $400 and the customer agreed to that price. $400 is very inexpensive for the amount of work that was performed. We always do our best to ensure that all job sites are cleaned to the best of our ability.

This job was initially part of a Big Deal offered back in December 2011. Jim and I agreed to wait to schedule the work until after the end of February. However, on February 21 Jim called and asked if his crew could come to do the work on the following day as a result of the mild weather which I agreed to. Bob,co-owner, and Mike arrived as scheduled and quickly set up scaffolding to work on. They worked non stop from about 8AM to 1PM grinding out old mortar, replacing bad bricks, and repointing the joints. The work involved repointing approximately the entire top 3-4 feet of the chimney and the sloped portion on the side. Bob resealed the chimney cap and inspected the lead flashing. They proceeded to clean up the work site which included hosing down the roof near the chimney, picking up debris on the ground and washing off shrubs and walkways. They were pleasant and very competent.
Description of Work: Replace and repoint bricks as needed in a 42 year old chimney. Check lead flashing at roof. Check mortar chimney cap.
