The work was done while I was at work, but everything looked great and the area was left clean. I would definitely consider them for additional work.
Description of Work: American Masonry repaired a cement stair and a crack at the bottom of the outside of the chimney as part of an Angies List Big Deal. It was $99 for four hours of work and $30 extra for materials.

Such a disappointing experience. I was called by American Made and I explained our problem. After learning that our home was on the South Shore, I was told just to text pictures since the individual speaking to me "didn't feel like driving all the way down there." While it's understandable that a professional would like to make efficient use of their time, it didn't exactly instill confidence to be told that your job is already a burden. I took the pictures and sent them, as requested. Over a week passed with no response from American Made. I called them to inquire about the photos and was told that they "forgot to get back to me" and then that the company doesn't actually do any of the work that would be needed (despite me describing the job at length once on their website form and again during the first phone exchange). Essentially a giant waste of time contacting highly unpleasant and unprofessional people.
Description of Work: After this past winter, we noticed a few cracks had appeared in our foundation that weren't there the previous autumn. Based on the excellent reviews here, I tried to contact American Made to see about getting these repaired.

Response from American Made Masonry LLC
I am sorry to hear that this customer feels unsatisfied. When she contacted me, I told her that her home was out of our typical catchment area, but that I would take a look at her problem if she sent over some pictures. As a small business owner, I need to take time and vicinity into account when quoting jobs and after viewing the pictures, I determined that it was not a job that our company could take on at this time. At no point during our conversations do I feel I was unpleasant or unprofessional, as I always make politeness and professionalism a number one priority at American Made Masonry.

We had an ancient flagstone patio that wrapped around two sides of the house, along with a 6 foot wide flagstone path connecting the two. It was graded improperly, drawing water into the basement, and broken all over -a serious foot hazard! We also had a nightmarish front block set that was like a steep drop off the front stairs. Jim and his crew came and in the first week, no joke, they worked 7 straight days - all long days - to completely demo the entire back area, take everything away and go to work building out a stunning set of patios, natural stone veneer walls and stairs, all topped with granite edge stones. The results are amazing, and we've received countless compliments. Aside from just the beautiful masonry, they also solved all of the water issues by: 1) regrading both patios correctly, including entirely new strong and dense bases, 2) dropping about 8 tons of gravel behind the long wall in the back yard that now sits below the lawn and 3) wrapping a spout into a tube that runs under the back patio and is now hidden away and 4) rebuilding a side foundation 'from below' for a small protruding house structure (mudroom/home office that were added after original house on weak foundation that had rotted out) After the main work putting in the concrete wall forms and base layers, they went to work on the large pattern that repeats in the 'European style' pavers (a premium natural looking stone with distressed edges instead of mold cuts) and then, like a puzzle, they laid out all of the natural stone veneer and put it all over the walls and stairs. They finished with the granite steps out front and the matching front walkway pavers, then finally did the supporting wall under the house out back (a deep dig to get a strong foundation under the back of the house)..and then we moved a fence and they came a month later to drop a couple of tons of peastone to make a new fire pit area off the back patio (like a lower patio - but when you look up from it, the wall you face also has a stone veneer and granite cap). So, in the end: 2 amazing patios, distinct 'front' and 'back yard'. massive stone veneer wall that does double-duty as retaining wall and 'bench seating'. 2 sets of natural stone veneer steps (with granite top). Massive run of granite over entire wall and edge along house leading to unified design in back patio. Rebuilt foundation support for back patio. Solved water run off drama (hidden/buried spout, regrading, extra gravel behind wall). Entirely new and properly angled front step set/walkway. ...and on top of it all, these guys are just great to be around.
Description of Work: What didn't they do is a more appropriate question! Jim and his crew are amazing - and I just realized that my review from last year wasn't on here for some reason, so adding it back in!

The only communication I had with the owner, Jim, was by email and it was a little terse and sporadic. His partner, Bob, was the one to come out for the estimate and actually do the work, and he was fantastic! He was friendly and professional. Our job was small, and he gave us a couple options to choose what would work best for us since we were only replacing a few broken stones and not redoing the whole walkway. He also set the end stones at a slight incline so the beginning of the walkway is now level with our driveway instead of having a small step up (the thickness of the stones - maybe 1.5 inches or so). It is amazing the difference the beautiful rework in this small part of the walkway makes! It looks absolutely great. Bob and his assistant worked in the below-freezing temperatures and finished the job in just a couple hours. Bob told me what to expect as the stones and fill between them settled, and what to watch out for/call them for in case anything shifted or washed out. We love coming home and using our walkway now! Will definitely consider them for future work if/when we need masonry done again.

He came to look at the job and I was told it would take 3 to 4 hours for the work to be completed by 2 men. The job was for 2 bricks to be replaced on a brick stairway. All that had to be done was the old cement taken off and new cement put back on the bricks. I was told he would get back to me if they had time in July. I never heard from him. I feel that this guy was trying to rip me off with this ridiclous price and the job was too small for him.

This is the second masonry job that American Made Masonry has done for us. We were very pleased with their chimney repair work last year, and we are equally pleased with their foundation work this time. We had Jim's crew out to repair a part of our foundation, which became exposed when we removed an old set of steps that was no longer being used because of the previous owner's remodeling years ago. Not only did they repair what we requested, they also walked our property and identified other patches required in our foundation and repaired those as well. They were also willing to remove the large debris from our removal of the old steps at a very reasonable cost.

American Made came out to review our projects and I had a Big Deal voucher for $99 worth of foundation repair. While they were out they also looked at other masonry projects I had and provided quotes for them. We opted to have them place to 2 window wells around our basement windows in addition to repairing small hole in our field stone foundation. The guys that came out were punctual and polite. They worked hard, cleaned up after their projects and did more than I expected. In short, they were great and we will probably hire them when we are ready to tackle our big front walkway project.

The estimate was done by a very professional person (Jim) who measured, talked options, then sent a firm quote. This quote was the lowest we received, simply because they proposed to do only what was necessary (rebuild only the part that was weakened and crumbling, rather than the whole wall). It took a while to get the job started, because they (and every one else we contacted!) was very busy -- mid Summer on a busy year. They still managed to promise to do the work before the others; and to actually do the work even sooner. Jim kept me informed of when they would come. We did not see the work being done, but it looks VERY nice and solid and well done. The yard above the repairs, and the brick patio below the wall, both seem untouched, which is a relief for both us and our neighbors. We communicated via phone and via email. Both worked fine. No complaints on any front.
Description of Work: Rebuild a crumbling field-stone retaining wall (about 8' high, 15' long). Wall is about 150-200 years old; it has been patched before, but never repaired.

The chimney at my mother's house had some missing bricks and was leaning. I contacted several masons, but American Made was the only contractor to commit to a time to examine the chimney and provide an estimate. They were prompt and very professional to work with. We received the estimate for the repairs, which we felt was very fair. At the time we committed to have them perform the repairs, they estimated about 6 weeks out before they could begin the job. Good to their word, Jim contacted us about in mid-August, and said they would begin the job the following week. As with the initial estimate, the crew from American Made arrived early in the morning, set up their staging, and worked the entire day until the job was complete. The quality of their work seems excellent, and they were very polite and professional in their dealings with my mother.

They caved in a wall during the foundation repointing. It was unexpected it ended up costing an extra $1000.00 to rebuild the wall. They did good work. Everything is still holding up.
Description of Work: It was a Big Deal for $99 for up to 4 Hours of Masonry Repair
Bob Runyan and Jim Linskey came to our house to look at the job - initially just our front bluestone steps. I quickly saw how professional they were and expanded ( more than tripled the job) the work. It was all work that I wanted to get done at some time. I felt the estimates were very reasonable. They discounted the work if we combined two or more of the jobs (three jobs). We had them complete all three. The men "Worked Hard in Very Hot Weather." All of the masons were very professional and cleaned up each day (The work was completed over four days.) They responded to our questions. We are very pleased with the finished projects. They look great!
Description of Work: 1. Reset bluestone landing and treads, repoint, replace bricks, pour concrete apron around perimeter of stairs. 2. Remove stucco from interior portion of bulkhead well, repoint stone, apply u-seal waterproofing. Replace old woo bulkhead doors/frame with steel doors. Pour new steps in well. 3. I had a messy, scary job I needed done, and boy am I glad I called Jim and his team at American Made. The job was scary because I couldn't tell the extent of the damage or of the needed repair before we got started, and making the repair meant I would have to shut my business down for two days. That's high stakes in my book. This is one of those scenarios where the work and the experience was so good, that I don't know exactly where to begin. Here is a standard run-down overview. - On time - Within estimate (on the lower end of the estimate provided) - Great to talk to and work with (I was on the premises as they were working) - Clean - Courteous - Went above and beyond Some examples: The job was a messy job. Michael *took his boots off* every time he got out of the hole/tank to walk around the inside of the laundromat. That's above and beyond service and care. We had a surprise leak on day 2 (not American Made Masonry's fault), and Jim got creative to solve the problem and continue on with his job of repairing the tank, and finished on time. Communication was outstanding. I did not have to remain on-site the whole time, and they called me regularly with updates and with any questions they had. They cleaned up after themselves. Like, really well. As in, filled up my mop bucket and mopped my floor for me before they left. Oh, and they wiped down some of my washing machines that got dusty during the work. What else? The list goes on. I'd hire these guys again 100%. Great people, the price was right on the money, and the work was outstanding. A+. I don't write reviews often, but this one is worth it.
Description of Work: Completely cleaned, repaired, and re-sealed an ~ 8 foot lint trap (a water storage tank) in my laundromat.
