+ -1 moreIn May, to my surprise, I received an invoice for troubleshooting from the company. He did no troubleshooting while at my home. I would not have scheduled him to come to my home if he had indicated that he would not be able to complete the needed work when I spoke to him initially. He then called me today to ask me to pay for the invoice. I tried to have a conversation regarding the fact that no work was performed, but he ended the call, stating that he will see me in small claims.
Description of Work: I had a plumbing issue that I wanted fixed. Prior to contacting William D Osenton & Son Inc, I diagnosed the issue. The issue was with the hot water, which was being routed to my upstairs neighbor, leaving me with no hot water. I traced the line to figure out which pipes needed to be switched. Upon contacting William D Osenton & Son Inc, I explained the already diagnosed issue. When he arrived, I spent about an hour explaining the work, which he declined to perform, as the job was too big for him. He never hinted that this job might be out of scope for him until after taking up an hour of my time that I only allowed because I thought he was intending to do the work. He left without completing any work or even looking into my issue at all.

+ 0 moreIt went great! The project required three trips: disconnecting old stove, scoping what was needed after the new stove arrived, and finishing the installation. Dick had to readjust the position of the gas line and install a new flexible connection. Each time he arrived on time and quickly performed his task. This was an entirely successful interaction. I will definitely hire him again when we need more plumbing work.
Description of Work: Dick removed an old six burner gas range and installed a replacement.

water heater repair, drain cleaning
+ 0 moreThey didn't standby with their product and didn't solve the issue. I was out of money from the referral to the first company. I thought that the water heater was missing a part right from the start. When I tried to get compensation from the manufacturer of the water heater and from Osenton; they weren't helpful. I wanted to use them as my regular plumber but they left me out hanging. They replaced the water heater and they were there when I needed it and that was good.
Description of Work: William D Osenton & Son Inc. installed the water heater that I had problems with and when I called them back they referred me to somebody else to diagnose the problem. The other person fix and replaced the pipe but didn't resolve the problem. I called them back and they made another suggestion that I had to do; replace the different part that they did themselves.

+ 3 moreI have had a number of proposals to replace my oil boilers with gas boilers. Dick came up with a creative alternative that wi8ll save me a lot of money. He also has the best price on replacing the oil boilers with gas. Because of the gas piping work he has done for us in the past, I trust Dick to do the highest quality workmanship.
Description of Work: Dick Osenton has performed a number of services for us. He does routine plumbing, but also installed a gas line for our gas fireplace. The last time Dick Osenton was here he unclogged a drain and provided a bid to fix our boilers.

When the work was completed faster than expected - they came in significantly under the quote. Highly recommend - we have already contacted them to investigate another leak.

+ 0 moreThey are great; I have used them several times. Over the past three years I have probably used them four times. They have done some kind of easy stuff, but also some advanced stuff. In the past they also have redone all the waste lines in a bathroom, replaced a significant piece of pipe behind a wall, installed a sink and the plumbing associated with the sink and unclogged the sink a few times. I keep using them because he is extremely thorough, very responsive and his communications are very clear. He follows up so every time we have used him he has called after the work was finished to make sure everything was okay and that we did not have any concerns.
Description of Work: I used William D Osenton & Son to unclog a sink. It ended up being a bigger job than we expected.

+ -1 moreIt turns out that the Saturday, after days of frigid temperatures, and a Northeaster, is one of the worst times to look for a plumber! When a radiator started leaking, we called several plumbers. Some did not return our calls and some told us they would get back to us later in the day. Mr. Osenton called us and even though he had a day full of cracked pipes ahead of him and wouldn't be able to make it to our house, he spent 15 minutes on the phone with my husband troubleshooting. He gave my husband helpful suggestions to slow down the leakage and warned him about something that could make things worse. When someone (from another company) was able to help us later in the day, the problem turned out to be exactly what Mr. Osenton said it would be. We'll definitely use Osenton in the future!

+ -1 moreWe had new granite counters installed in our condo along with an under mount sink and new faucet. The original plumber hired to install the garbage disposal, attached the dishwasher, re-connect the piping, and install the new faucet failed to properly install the faucet. The original plumber claimed it was the best he could do because the under mount sink was installed first and he couldn't effectively work around it. He claimed he found a and quot;work around.and quot; Well, after a few months the and quot;work aroundand quot; stopped working and I had a loose faucet. I called Dick from William D. Osenton and Son and he came over right away, fully disconnected and re-installed the kitchen faucet. Dick was quick, clean, and had no problems working aroudn the sink. After the reinstall everything is working perfectly. I should have called William D. Osenton and Son to do the original work.
Description of Work: Reinstalled kitchen faucet.

+ 0 moreHe has been an incredible plumber that we've had over the years. We've had our house for 20 years and he is our plumber that we call and we've called him on a number of occasions to do things like helping us hook up a stove, getting a line put in for our ice system in our refrigerator and getting major work done in our basement. He has replaced three hot water heater for us. He is professional. He shows up when he says he is going to. He gives you a full quote on the work, completely written out. His people show up when they say they are going to. They do good work and he stands by his work. The one thing to note is that you will be asked to pay for labor and then he'll bill you for the materials. If there are other things that they discover in the course of the work, he talks to you about them. But, he usually writes a very thorough quote on exactly what needs to happen.
Description of Work: William D Osenton & Son does plumbing work for us. We had a hot water heater replaced by him last year.

Description of Work: I called Dick, and several other plumbers from Angie's list, to give me an estimate on running a gas line for the installation of a gas fireplace. Dick's proposal was several hundred dollars more expensive than the plumber I initially chose. Problems developed immediately with my first plumber who wanted to reevaluate and rebid the job. I saw trouble and called Dick back. He also reevaluated the job, but actually gave me price lower than his original because he ran a gas pipe over a shorter distance than originally proposed. It was also important to me that Dick wanted to use solid pipe to run the gas line, rather than flexible pipe that the first plumber was planning to use. The installation of the gas fireplace unit by Anderson Fireplace was continuously rescheduled and took their crew 3-4 visits. Dick was very flexible and worked around the unpredictability I had with Anderson Fireplace - making the whole process run more smoothly. In the end, I found Dick to be extremely contentious about the quality and safety of his work. His pricing was very fair and honest. He always showed up when he said he would and changed his schedule when it helped me out. During the process, he performed a couple of minor plumbing repairs that had nothing to do with the fireplace. I had never used his services before, but he will become my regular plumber from now on.

+ -1 moreDick Osenton recommended a drain cleaning company (D and G/Hercules Drain Cleaning) because they could scope our sewer pipe with a camera and find out if, in fact, we had a collapsed pipe that required a front yard excavation, as one plumbing company had told us He informed me that plumbers deal with inside the house pipes, and this company deals with outside the house piples. We ended up spending $900 with no front yard excavation instead of $9200, because of this man's kindness. I would call them in a heartbeat for any plumbing problem.
Description of Work: Dick Osenton called me back on New Year's Eve morning just to tell me that he wasn't the right person to call, and that I needed a drain cleaner.

+ 1 moreOther plumbers had said they could not fix the slow draining tub. Osenten did it. He pulled up the closet floor, replaced the very old slow-draining elbow pipe, and replaced it with a new one. Then he showed his carpenter skills by replacing the closet floor; it looks exactly as it had looked before. Amazing. The toilet seemed to be more complicated than first thought. No problem. He (or his helper) managed to fix the leak and re-seat the toilet very nicely.
Description of Work: Reseated a toilet and fixed a leak there. Tore up a wood floor of bathroom closet to get at 81 year old elbow drain pipe of often-used tub.

+ -1 moreI wanted a local contractor, and contacted Dick Osenton to come and give an estimate. The work was accomplished over a period of about 6 weeks last spring. Work was done very well, in my kitchen and in the basement where the connections were made. Once the connections were in and inspections were completed, a new washer and dryer were connected up and tested. I had some concerns about the dryer exhaust, and called Dick back to come and validate that the work was done properly. He did this right away, and the washer/dryer have worked perfectly ever since. Several months later, I called again about a different, smaller problem (leaking kitchen sink), and again, the service was prompt and professional. I would certainly call again if I had more plumbing problems to solve!
Description of Work: Needed brand-new plumbing connections in my kitchen for a washer and (gas) dryer, to replace a bad connection in a different location. Work involved new piping connections for both water and gas in the basement, with in-wall connections up to my kitchen, in a fairly tight location.
