The work went fine. For two of the doors, the tops of the doors were planed so they would close all the way, the strike plates were either modified or moved so the doors latched properly, and the doorknob on one had to be adjusted. Jeff planed the door tops with an electric plane with its exhaust attached to a HEPA vacuum. On the last door, the knob mechanism had been damaged. Jeff retrieved a good one from a spare door in the basement, and swapped it with the damaged one. He also reattached a towel bar that had come loose in the wall. Jeff works with another person and they split the work up between them. l could not be happier and so is my tenant.
Description of Work: Repaired three doors that would not close or latch completely. This is a 100 year old home.

I called Jeff and asked him to plane down the edge of a door that had swelled. He first wanted to figure out why it had swelled, and found a section of failed roof flashing above the door. After I had a roofer repair the flashing, as Jeff had recommended, he came back with his partner and installed a temporary plastic tarp wall to seal off the end of the room with the swelled door. He installed a dehumidifier to dry out the door and the door frame. Four days later the door closed and worked perfectly. Brilliant! I think anybody else would have taken out a plane and shaved down the door. Once it was complete I couldn't tell where the work had been done. The woodwork and paint matched the rest of my 1925 dining room perfectly.
Description of Work: Jeff repaired a door that had swelled and would not close. He also reinstalled door casings after the damaged paint was professionally stripped.

I have used Jeff a number of times in the past and thought that he and his colleagues were top flight. I moved to a smaller place and of course, a week after the move, the washer died. I bought a new one but before delivery, I realized that the model I bought was too wide to fit through the laundry room door. The width of the washer was standard (27"), but the door frame and surrounding molding made the opening only 25.5" wide. So, I called Jeff and asked him if removing the door and frame was something that he did. Of course he did, and we scheduled an appointment for him to remove the frame. He came, he carefully removed the frame, labeling all the moldings, saving the old nails, and fixing the interior frame and door saddle where needed. He didn't just forcefully remove the moldings- he gently pried them off to keep them intact and in one piece. The washer was delivered, it went through the door and was installed. The next week Jeff came back and put the frame, moldings and door back on. It was good as new, aside from a few very minor nail holes which spackling and painting took care of. I know that Jeff can do almost anything. I plan on using him to build in bookcases in the new place and to paint when all of this is done. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Removed a door frame to get a new appliance in the room, then replaced the door frame- put the old one back.

I scheduled Jeff over 2 weeks ago and he said he would come at 8:30am. He did not show up until 9:03am on Friday morning. He also came with a partner and said that they each would charge $75.00 a hour for my small job. I did not need to be charged $150 an hour for the small things I had necessary to be done.
Description of Work: I fired him and his partner on the spot, for not only being late but also for misrepresenting himself.

The only accurate part of this review is that I was 33 minutes late. I had earlier verbally quoted our rate at $75 per man-hour. When my carpenter and I showed up, this member wanted me to do all the work by myself. (My Angie's List profile says that I work with another carpenter.) I tried to explain that we split up a to-do list, and finish it in half the time it would take one person. The bill would come out the same as if only one person did all the work. I offered an apology for the misunderstanding. She would hear none of it, and insisted that I stay to do the work and send my carpenter away. As politely as I could, I told her I would not do that. I also told her that she was under no obligation to hire me. She became agitated and, what some might characterize, verbally abusive. My carpenter and I turned around and left. It would be more accurate to say that I fired myself.

I was honest about it. It was more complicated than a simple repair, and I think much more complicated that this member imagined. I referred him to a carpenter I know who I though had the right experience for his job. I have good reviews because I take on the jobs I know how to handle well, and for those jobs with which I am not comfortable, I refer other tradesmen. I don't get it - how does being honest and acting responsible rate a "C"?

Jeff installed a Harvey window sash for me at the last minute before the sale of my condo closed. Harvey didn't deliver the sash on time but I really needed it done, and Jeff went out of his way to make time to do it in time, and charged a very fair price for it.

We have used Jeff many times before for a variety of projects and repairs. His attention to detail is outstanding. The clean up at the end of every day was meticulous- other than the windows working perfectly, you wouldn't have known that he had worked her
Description of Work: Mechanical window restoration of 24 windows. Jeff and his assistant took apart and put back together our old rope and pulley double hung windows. When they were finished, the windows all worked so smoothly. The sashes would glide up and down with one or two fingers.
We had seen Jeff's great reviews here, so when we needed some work done prior to our house sale, we called him. He was extremely responsive and professional, and did a fantastic job. Jeff is a "problem solver," who figures out how to do a job right, and who will put all his effort into making sure you are satisfied. He did two pretty complex carpentry jobs for us -- installing a bifold closet door on a non-standard closet, and installing cabinet coverings by our HVAC machine, which was over our fridge. In both cases, he took a lot of time and care to make sure the final solution was functional, stable and beautiful. Jeff also stepped up when we needed a Harvey window sash replaced due to broken pane and rusted frame. Harvey sent me a new sash under warranty, but I had to take care of the installation. We had just sold the condo, and needed to get the sash replaced quickly and properly due to the closing conditions. I told Jeff all of this, and his response was, "I'll make sure to get it done -- just let me know when the replacement sash arrives." Due to some delays from Harvey in getting the sash to me, I had to push Jeff's visit back several times. But as soon as the sash came, Jeff made sure to come by and get the installation done right. He could have gouged me knowing I had to get the job done quickly, but he only charged me $50, which is at least half of what someone else would have charged (and probably I'd have looked at ~$150 for a last-minute job like that from someone else). Most importantly, the installation was done totally correctly. If you have any "complicated' handyman work, call Jeff. He's smart, creative and fair. He wants to get the job done right, and takes responsibility for his work. In three somewhat complex jobs he did for me, which were all complex in different ways, Jeff's attitude was always, "I will get this done for you." His prices are fair -- I'm sure you can get quotes for lower, but Jeff stands by his prices and his work, and isn't the type to suddenly say the price has gone up because he didn't realize the job was so complex. Do yourself a favor and call Jeff -- you'll be glad you did.
Description of Work: Over the course of several months, Jeff did several jobs for me, from installing a custom closet door for a very odd closet space, to building custom cabinet coverings over my HVAC duct work, to installing a replacement Harvey window sash (which is the job that cost $50).

We were very happy with Jeff's window restoration services. He takes great pride and care in his work and wants to make sure everything works just right. And they did. We are so happy we decided to go with Jeff to preserve the wood windows and simply get new storm windows, which are an easy way to update older windows and keep that classic character for an older home. Even with the vinyl replacement windows, which already existed in our home's second floor, he matched the windows in character and brand. Such an improvement?no more leaky windows and a great look! Jeff and his workers were quick and responsive, completely professional at all times.
Description of Work: Jeff replaced the storm windows and screens of our six old wood windows and he also provided us a few new vinyl replacement windows. Window restoration is one of Jeff's specialties.

I take pride in my work, and I guarantee it. Had this member paid me the courtesy of a phone call and the opportunity to fix it, I would have done so without hesitation. I live three minutes away from this member, and I do not understand why he didn't call me. I find it very unfair that this member didn't call me back, but instead filed a negative report.

Jeff was thoughtful and helpful and did a great job and under budget. Gave me a min/max price (it was hard to tell what might be underneath the door) and came in under the minimum. I feel confident the work (a somewhat unusual job) was done correctly. I will definitely use his services again.

This review is long overdue but due to some health issues I was not able to write it till now. Jeff was awesome. He was professional, on time, dedicated and really takes pride in his work. The quality was great. The location of the built in was a tough space which required a lot of calculations to get it right. He didn't rush, he thought things through and he made sure everything was just perfect. We loved his work and would hire him again in a second. We are very picky and you really can't find anything wrong with his work. Don't hesitate to hire him. You will be more than pleased!

This member wanted to replace her existing refrigerator with a new one, and was concerned about whether it would fit into a somewhat strange shaped opening. I did some measuring, and assisted her in selecting a new refrigerator whose size I believed would fit. There was still some uncertainty involved, and I assured her that I would promptly modify the height of her upper cabinet had I been mistaken (and billed her for the work, to which she agreed.) The new fridge in fact fit with 1/2" to spare!

Jeff Lasky did a great job repairing and restoring our custom windows in our older house. His work was top quality and he's a stickler for details. He's not satisfied unless it's perfect! Also, when my friend down the street needed work on her windows, he stopped by and fixed the problem and didn't charge her because he said the work was too small. I would definitely use him again.

Description of Work: Jeff responded to my inquiry very quickly and set up an appointment exactly as he said he would. He showed up right on time. Jeff was always available to talk about the goals of getting the house for sale. He was wonderful answering all my questions and discussing what needed to be done. All of the work was done within the time constraints (even over the weekend!) professionally, and graciously. I would use him again and highly recommend him to anyone who needs a handyman, house to be spruced up for sale and for windows. Great job!
Description of Work: Jeff was meticulous, detailed and extremely thorough in preparing my house for showing for sale. He fixed various problems with paint, walls and windows within the house and did touch up and full painting where needed. He had a truck full of equipment so he was never off site and understood the necessity of having the house in pristine shape to show for sale. True to form, house showed beautifully and was sold quickly.
We were very happy with the project. Jeff visited within a few days of my call to give an estimate, and then did the work a few weeks later. He and his assistant worked diligently to finish the job in a little over 1 day. Because the new skylights were not centered over the opening, and were a bit bigger than the shaft opening, trimming them out in a way that looked nice was tricky, and Jeff did a great job and made it look good.

Working with Jeff was great. He is always available and does great follow-up. I had him install grab bars in both my bathrooms, as well as a host of other things. He has a lot of different skills. He had a lot of important advice for me, including where to buy the best designed grab bars. His prices are very good and the quality of his work is excellent. I can highly recommend him.
