He didn't arrive on time and he didn't clean up well. The cabinet door didn't match the way it was supposed to. However he did some additional work which I asked him for initially. He did not charge me for it. He was skillful. He's completely prepared for the work he had to do.

Repair overall went well. A complicated job that Jeff and his team attempted to assess and repair to the best of their ability. Responsiveness was quick, although follow through took a bit of time. It was a busy time for them that was indicated to us up front.

Also included in the job was the addition of weather stripping around the perimeter of the door to further diminish sound leakage, as well as adjusting the closing of the door.

No one would take this job on until I found Jeff. Special offset Euro hinges were needed and some cabinets required additional construction work before hinges could be mounted. Jeff is very smart, he works fast and efficiently, coming up with creative solutions when obstacles arise. For example, a heat vent is on the floor where the new base cabinets were to be located. No problem, Jeff just zig-zagged the toe strip and built the face frame over it.
Description of Work: Kitchen makeover starting with hinges and hardware on cabinet doors and then custom base cabinets. Remove wrought iron surface hinges on sixteen 3/8” overlap doors, replace with invisible Euro style hinges. Change door and drawer pulls throughout kitchen. Construct two new custom base cabinets.

I had been struggling with my backdoor, which had became increasingly difficult to close, because it was catching somewhere on the bottom. Jeff came and made the diagnosis on a Saturday, and returned on Monday with his assistant to fix it. It now closes with the push of a finger! I am impressed. Great job! They also secured a weatherstrip to the front door.

Jeff is a great carpenter with a keen eye for detail. He was clear and timely in his communication about the project, and upfront about labor and material costs, and he worked quickly to install both handrails. Above all, he is easy to work with and his craftsmanship is excellent. I would recommend him for any carpentry work, especially custom projects requiring precision and detail.

Jeff exceeded our expectations. Prior to performing the work, he came to the house to inspect the needed repairs. He then spent time and energy to come up with creative and effective solutions to the problems including researching the manufacturer of our dishwasher to confirm his plan to repair. Jeff also selected new hinges that were particularly well suited to the cabinet he was repairing. If there was a minor complaint (and now I'm picking) is that his response to email communications was slow, but I admit I'm not a very patient person. Once a time was fixed, Jeff came on the agreed day and time and did an excellent job. I will likely use his services again and would recommend him.

Could not have gone smoother. Jeff sent his carpenter over while we were out of town over the holidays. Arrived home to see all the work wonderfully done and not a spot of evidence that anyone was actually there. All work areas were spic and span. could not be happier, and work was done under budget as Jeff's material quote was overestimated. That was very honorable in my view. I would have no issue recommending Jeff to anyone in the future, and would use his services again without hesitation.

Jeff came on exceptionally short notice as we wanted to fix a handrail that had allowed our two year old daughter to fall and land squarely on her head. He was there within the week and had a beautiful new rail installed. What really set him apart was what came next. We weren't happy with the height of the rail, which matched the basic dimensions of the old rail. It didn't seem high enough and we confirmed it wasn't up to code. I called, expecting a fight, but he came out that day, measured everything, walked up the steps at four neighbors homes, and called to provide some options. All of them were on him - "It's not up to code and I stand by my work, so I'll get it right." He did and earned our business for the future as a result.

Jeff has a great mind -- I was thinking simply of two bookcases, but he thought up drawers to store music books and sheet music, and designed and built a beautiful case for them. The other, very large, built-in bookcase looks like it was born there. He always arrived on time, when he said he would, and did the work in 3 days.

I had a good experience with Jeff. He is straightforward to work with, reliable and does good work. I actually had planned for him to do more things than he did, but he suggested cheaper ways to get them done that did not require his expertise. Since I was planning on selling the house, these suggestions on how to save money, at his own expense, were valuable. The work he did do came out great. The balusters were a major pain as he had to dig out bits of the old ones and years of poly and glue that had gotten into the holes. It was nearly every baluster on the stairway that needed to be replaced and I know it probably took longer than he budgeted, but he got it done for what he said. The built-in shelving unit was also a struggle. The house is old and the walls were not flat or square so it took a good deal of back and forth to figure out a way to make it look right that did not require rebuilding half the wall in the process. But he got it in there and what had been a huge hole in the wall was filled with a very nice set of shelves. These were the finishing touches on the house and it looked mint afterward. We had a very good response when the house went on the market in no small part to these sort of details. I can certainly recommend him for any detailed work of this nature.

i was very happy with every aspect of Jeff's work in my home. He was thorough in his assessment of each project, provided accurate estimates, was very patient with all of my questions, and truly did a fantastic job. I have been particularly pleased with the replacement boards for the deck; I have received so many compliments on how beautiful the mahogany looks. Jeff recommended a particular painter to apply the stain; Richard was similarly professional and did a great job. I wouldn't hesitate to have Jeff or any member of his team do work in my home again. In fact, I am currently working with Jeff on another project for my condo association's common areas. Highly recommend!

I came home from work and noticed that two doors on one of the kitchen cabinets were no longer aligned, and then I noticed that the cabinets were all askew and looked like they were going to pull off the wall. We had already been talking to Jeff about getting work done on our deck, so I contacted him via email and within the same day, he emailed me back to set up a time to meet the next day, so he could see what the issue was. He came the next day and assessed what needed to be fixed. He confirmed it was a good idea to take everything out of the cabinets and that he would also reinforce the cabinets that had not started coming off the wall in case the same thing happened with those also. Jeff was in the middle of a project, so we had to wait a week to get the cabinets fixed which was an inconvenience for us, but I understood he had a project underway, and I trusted that he would do a good job once he got to our project. He came the day that he told us he would, on time, and re-aligned the cabinets as well as secured them to the studs in the wall in multiple places. I was very satisfied with the work he did. Similar to the deck work Jeff just completed for us, he takes great pride in his work, keeps the place as clean as possible and his attention to detail is superb.

We had several items to address with our deck: several of the stairs down to the patio had started rotting and we also wanted lattice installed underneath the deck to stop animals from hanging out under our deck. We asked him to put a door in the lattice, so that we could access the space for storage. The first time we contacted Jeff, he contacted us back quickly and then set up a meeting to come over to understand the project. For the entire project, including the initial consultation, Jeff always arrived on time which I appreciated a lot because my prior experiences with many contractors has been they don't arrive on time or they don't arrive at all! Once we met with Jeff and he provided an estimate and we agreed to the project, he came by to do final measurements and contacted us with questions he had about the details. I appreciated that he checked with us to make sure his understanding was in line with our expectations. He then told us when he would be coming by to start work and kept the schedule every day he came by. It turned out to be a big project because the deck was not standard measurements across the board and he had to spend extra time getting everything to fit together and work. He was very respectful and clean of both our backyard and inside of the house. When we were expecting rain and he needed to do some staining of the wood for the stairs, he called me to check if he could use the inside of our garage to stain the wood as well as keep it there over night to dry. Every day Jeff called or emailed me to provide a status update. Due to the unforeseen difficulties with the idiosyncrasies of the existing deck dimensions, the project took one more day than expected which was fine for us because I knew that Jeff was taking extra time to make sure everything was just right. The rebuilt stairs look great. The lattice work is very polished looking and nicely complemented with white accent boards. The door on the lattice is very sturdy and Jeff installed reinforcement on the door. I am very impressed with Jeff's attention to detail and his desire to do the project right, so that the work lasts a long time. What I am really psyched about is that he noticed the bottom part of our gutter on one side of the house was hanging by a loose screw and he secured it without even mentioning it. This shows me that he cares about the work he does and he cares about houses in general.
Description of Work: Jeff installed lattice with a door underneath our back deck to enclose the storage area underneath the deck, and he rebuilt several stairs on the deck that were rotting, including redoing/staining the wood slats on each stair. Jeff also reinforced the deck.

Jeff picked up his phone, first of all, which is more than I can say for the 8 other handymen I called one afternoon. As the manager of a building I needed some help asap to complete an installation that was turning out to be way more complicated than I had anticipated. I'd built the basic box of one Ikea kitchen cabinet, but I needed someone to finish off the job. Jeff carefully got a feel for the job and took it sight unseen, knowing that I was pressed for time. He was upfront about this and about his prices, which are higher than a solo handyman's prices would be since he works with an assistant, but in line with the going rate and I believe a good value. Jeff turned right around and helped me out the following day, showing up with his assistant Tom in a tiny van he's tricked out to neatly hold every tool in existence. He did arrive a little late, but called me on the way. Jeff was very familiar with Ikea kitchens, and we carefully walked through the job so we were both on the same page before he got started. The most complicated piece of the job was cutting a countertop down to size (30 in) and installing a large sink in the counter. I'd also asked Jeff to make sure the cabinet was level and secure. Three hours later Jeff called me up to explain where things stood and ask me to take a look before he moved forward. He'd already leveled the cabinet to perfection and attached the back panel beautifully. He had worked through every measurement before cutting, and had determined the soundest way to install the sink in the counter. It was a pretty clever fix that required him to cut away at some of the boards supporting the counter to allow for the sink to fit with room for a faucet behind it on the counter (instead of attaching the faucet to the aluminum of the sink, which as he demonstrated to me would have been hairy). I was surprised that things were progressing slower than I had predicted they would, but I was very pleased that Jeff was such a capable carpenter. I'm a very handy person with substantial woodworking experience, and I recognized that Jeff was right- his careful planning saved me trouble in the long run because it meant the cabinet would be installed as soundly as possible. Having said that, I'm sure that if I'd asked him to pick up the pace and not worry about doing good quality work, he would have obliged. But I decided that would not have been the wisest way to go. End of story, the work was done absolutely beautifully in the time that Jeff and Tom had to work with. As we wrapped things up I caught Jeff wincing a bit, and I asked him if he had a bad back. Turns out that during the course of the day some pain that his doctor had recently told him was no big deal had progressed rapidly, and it was clear he was in sizable pain. He never mentioned this to me during the course of the job but just stayed the course to finish out the task. He sent me a note later informing me he had a surgery the next day, and would be right back to work fairly soon. That's dedication! Jeff clearly the guy for any job that requires old school technical ability, ingenuity, and perfection. His assistant Tom was there not just to earn a dollar and help out, but also to learn from Jeff's experience, I could tell. It was a pleasure to work with the two of them.

Our old doors were rather generic and hollow, so we wanted to replace them. We also had a couple leaky exterior doors and windows on the first floor. We contacted Jeff, who explained that he reviews new projects on Saturdays. He came to our house the first Saturday he was available. He was prompt and quickly evaluated our issues. He was honest and gave us low-cost alternatives for more expensive solutions. For example, when we showed him that our back door was leaky, he showed us that the floating panels on the door could simply be slid more tightly together to prevent leaks. We ended up having Jeff replace only the 3 doors on the second floor. We told Jeff the brand of door we wanted and the style, which was a solid, 5-panel door (for each of the 3 doors). We also told Jeff the type/brand of hardware we wanted. Jeff ordered all the materials. He also ordered high-quality hinges, which we appreciated; the hinges took an extra 2 or 3 weeks to be delivered, but the delay was worth it for us. Jeff and his 2 sons came to our house on the appointed date. He set up in our driveway and began work. The 3 doors took all day to install. We were testing one of the doors while they were still installing the other two doors...and when the door fell off its hinges (while we testing it) Jeff and his sons immediately repaired it. We would use Jeff again, and indeed we're contacting him now (September 2014) for another project.

I contacted jeff by phone. I shared the scope of work and was told that this was within what they did. I was asked to email the scope of work mentioned and a reminder of the date we agreed on for him to stop by to see the work himself. He came by took a look, fixed a hinge on a cabinet and told me that was " on the house". He seemed knowledgeable about carpentry. We discussed possible time frame of starting and general parameters of cost. I was told there was a large job that he and another worker would be starting soon. I was asked to check in with him in a few weeks to see about an actual start date. I left a voice mail, and never heard back. Not convinced it should be customers responsibility to remind the business of potential opportunities. I would just ask that if the scope of work was too small, that be communicated at the start.

Jeff did an excellent job installing an over the range microwave oven, with external event. The installation was tricky because the space was very tight in the vertical direction, and the tile grout on the backsplash had to be ground out to create enough room. Jeff was able to do this without damaging the delicate tile below the microwave. Due to the added complexity, the job took a little longer than estimated, but he only charged us the original quoted amount. Overall, a very good experience.

Jeff was recommended by a friend. I do not remember how much it cost, but I felt it was low. I do remember it took awhile due to the complexity of repair, gluing etc. If I remember correctly we were away over the summer so this was not a problem. I know we had it back by late September. He was very accommodating, he reattached the leg while we were at work and came back in the evening for his check. I am writing this review because I am thinking of hiring him for some other work.
