She took 24 Samples, three from each location. Nobody was home and it was 6 degrees outside this morning with a frozen blanket of snow covering the little box that hid the key to the house. I gave her instructions and she spent 20 minutes digging in the ice until she found it. No complaints though. She did the job, dropped the sample off at the lab and it was done.

Our town is currently alone in requiring an asbestos test as part of the application for a remodel/demo permit. The test has to be performed by a licensed asbestos inspector, who comes out to your house surveys potential materials and takes samples for lab testing. I called Patti at Enviro Safe in Somerville after getting her name from an asbestos removal company. Patti called me back quickly and I arranged a time with her office that was only two days out. Patti was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer my questions about the many many unexpected types of materials that can contain asbestos. As I suspected, we only needed a sample taken from our plaster wall. As the sample showed that the plaster contained horse-hair, as the rest of our old walls, Patti and I were pretty certain that it would not also contain asbestos. Two days later, via email, I received the lab results confirming no asbestos, along with a letter from Patti to this effect, as the letter was needed for the town demolition application. The cost was $175 for Patti to come out and take the sample, handle the testing, and write the letter, plus $25 for the single sample testing. The $175 was $75 less expensive than a large local lab that would need a week to make the appointment and an additional week for the testing. As well as testing, Patti also does project design and management. Highly recommended.
