After using Socelvic for some work on our deck, we also hired them to power wash our house and replace our old shutters. As expected, the work was well done and our house looks great!

Celio and his guys were great, and Kimberly in their office was extremely helpful. We initially hired them to stain our deck, but once they began, they discovered rotten wood that needed to be replaced. The carpentry was all expertly done for a very reasonable price given the amount of wood that needed replacing, and the staining was done promptly after the repairs were completed. We were very happy with the work.

I hired Socelvic to do a renovation of my apartment that included a complete redo of one bathroom, build a new bathroom, move a wall, and a variety of painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. Socelvic was the contractor and I went with their electrical and plumbing subs. The project was a disaster. They did demolition on my apartment and did a terrible job of cleaning up. There was debris everywhere and the job site was unsafe and filthy. After demolition, they went away and did no work for 6 weeks. As this was a rental apartment, time was of the essence since I was losing rental income. They didn't seem to care about my schedule. There was very little communication. My calls, texts, and emails were only sporadically answered. Once the work began in earnest, the quality of the workmanship was terrible. They didn't protect my wood floors, so they got all scratched and needed to be refinished. Even though I gave them a detailed spreadsheet of the items to order for the renovation, they ordered and installed the wrong parts. They told me that they could get me a discount off Home Depot prices, but when I saw the purchase order, the prices were actually higher than if I ordered the items myself. They had no consistent crew working on the job, so I had to explain what I needed over and over. Junior Vicente was rarely at the site, so I had to talk directly with workers that spoke little or no English to explain what needed to be done. They put in a sewer vent pipe through the roof of the house and never sealed it off with a boot, so water leaked in through three floors of the house. Drywall was installed with huge gaps between the boards and insufficient nails. Electrical rough work was done even after the rough inspection. Waterproofing placed on shower walls was actually peeling off the wall. They installed tile over the peeling water proofing and unsealed wall boards. They told me that rough inspections were done and insisted that I pay 80% of the contract value upon rough completion. Unfortunately, I paid it. But the quality of the work was so bad, that I finally had to fire them. I checked in with the building inspector after I fired them, and found out that they had not done the rough inspection after all. They did rough electrical and rough plumbing, but not the building and fireproofing inspection. And they had closed all the walls, which are not supposed to be closed until the building inspection. The inspector required that I rip out all the walls in the bathrooms to inspect. When the walls were removed, we saw that there was insufficient insulation, no fire stopping in the pipe chase, cut studs that were not properly reinforced, and no vent piping from the bathroom ventilation units. I had to pay another contractor to do demolition, and then fix all the problems. I had to buy new ventilation units (the ones I had specified in the first place), all new tile (since the tiled walls had to be demolished. I lost thousands of dollars having to fix the mess they made. And to add insult to injury, I tried suing in Small Claims Count and Junior Vicente didn't show up twice when trials were scheduled. Please, please, please DO NOT hire Socelvic. I hope no one has to go through what I just went through.

These are the nicest people! They were very responsive, and came out to give a quote within one day. I hired them to do the work, and they had it finished within the week. They did a very nice job, and my only complaint was that the cost of sanding was not factored into the original quote which I had not realized. It was pretty clear that sanding would be needed, so I wish they had factored that into the original quote. It ended up bumping the cost up by around $400. On the other hand, they went above and beyond in some ways. My front deck is rotting and had a hole in it, and I need to replace all the boards. But that project was outside my budget right now; I wanted to take care of the back deck and porch before they come to the same state. They were very understanding about the situation, and came and did the work I hired them for very well, and then then even threw a new couple of boards into the front deck where the hole used to be, and painted them the same color. This was free of charge, just as a temporary stop-gap until I can save money to replace that porch in the spring. That was totally above and beyond. I recommend these folks.

Unfortunately, we had to sue Socelvic in Small Claims Court and won. We had contracted with the company to purchase and replace an attic window, about $800 total, for which we paid in full as part of a larger project. This work was never even started and, after a year of back-and-forth emails and empty promises, we took them to court.

Unfortunately, we had to sue Socelvic in Small Claims Court for the $800 they took from us to purchase and replace an attic window. The work started well enough. The frame was quickly constructed, everything was going ok but then things started to deteriorate. Junior and his crew seemed to be doing just enough to collect payments and once they collected everything other than the final payment, the work grinded to a halt. When previously Junior would respond right away to my attempts to contact him, he's been now ignoring me completely. One day his father showed up, did some work, and then again - silence. The project has been a very frustrating experience. I am wondering how they could have possibly accumulated that many positive reviews. I have now lost faith that they will ever finish the job and I am writing this as a warning to anyone considering hiring them, that they should probably look elsewhere.
Description of Work: Our deck was falling apart so in the fall of 2006 we decided we wanted to tear it down and build a new composite deck in its place. We interviewed Socelvic and a few other companies but eventually decided we weren't comfortable with the construction during winter and we postponed the execution. In May 2017 we selected Socelvic for the project because Junior seemed confident they would be able to finish it by the end of June (we had travel plans for July and were excited about having a new deck when we were back).

This project was completed in 2016, I'm writing this review in 2017 because I wanted to be assured that my assessment was accurate and that we have "lived" in the space. As frustrating as this project became because of the unforeseen circumstances, we love the outcome, use it daily during spring and summer and are actually happy that the rebuild was necessary. We selected Socelvic after interviewing several companies. Junior was the "face" of the company and met with us numerous times (on Saturdays because of our work schedules) and helped us think through the project, what options might be possible (things we had not originally considered), the materials to consider, and the timeline for the work. We were hosting a bridal shower for our daughter so there was a hard-stop time-frame - which they met. They started as promised, worked through to completion without any down time. The crew worked from the time they arrived until the end of their day, with 30 min for lunch. The site was cleaned up at the end of each day. It seemed the job began to morph from remodel to rebuild almost immediately. Before proceeding with any work beyond the contract, the work crew consulted Junior who reviewed the issues and communicated with us. They showed us what was found (often sending pictures to me at work) and gave an estimate of costs. We are extremely happy with the outcome. The quality is excellent. It significantly adds to the appeal of the house. One thing I would do differently, is require a more detailed cost proposal for the additional work required, a more detailed invoice for the progress payments, and a closer accounting for time and materials used, or returned. This was my shortcoming and only became a factor for me when the project started to grow. I don't feel we were over, or inappropriately, charged, it was a matter of my need for accountability. This did not seem to be the company's strength, but quality of workmanship, ability to meet timelines, experience and responsiveness was and that's why we chose them. About 6 months after completion we discovered one small leak and Junior and crew responded immediately, found the problem, corrected it - without charge. There have been no further concerns. I highly recommend.
Description of Work: This project started as a "simple" remodel of an exterior deck and screened-in porch. Basically, replacing the flooring and rails with a few enhancements. Once it began, it became a complete tear-down and rebuild that resulted due to unforeseen structural and rot conditions in the deck, porch and house. We also asked them to re-roof the porch and paint the rear of the house.

The contractor for the renovation was behind schedule and we were on a tight deadline to finish to get the tenants in the unit. I kept calling Socelvic to tell them they needed to come a day later, then three days, then six days. I was a bit worried since they didn't but respond to all my calls. But they showed up the very first day the unit was available to paint and finished the job on time even though we had other workers (an electrician and carpenter) working around them and making their job harder (and in some cases requiring them to redo their work). Even more important, the paint job looks great and they showed great pride in their workmanship. I'm not sure how many companies out there could show this much flexibility and still do a quality job. They charged a bit extra but it was well worth it. Would definitely hire again!

Socelvic worked with me closely to keep the price down, replacing only what had to be replaced, and to use materials that made the most sense for the job. Workmen were there when they were promised and left the property clean when they were finished. Interior painting was finished quickly with all needed moving and draping of furniture. Excellent quality work and very professionally executed. Another painting contractor that bid on the original job wouldn't arrange to have a window glass replaced; Socelvic handled the coordination of all the subs so I dealt only with one person.
Description of Work: I have an old house on which Socelvic has worked more than once. This time what I thought was going to be a simple interior and exterior paint job became a lot more complicated as rot was discovered, which was extensive and caused by a leaky roof. In the end I needed custom carpentry, rubber roofing, masonry, and painting, plus some electric repairs, and a little plumbing because some radiators had to be removed temporarily to get at some of the rotten wood.

It's easy to come here and bad mouth your contractor. You failed to follow the guidelines of my contract and delayed all materials necessary for the work to continue. I gave you a free wood floor finish so your apartment would look better and here you are complaining about the floors. I have a copy of permits and I'm opening a lawsuit against you as well. Great, from start to finish. They brought the standards and care of old world craftsmen, meaning they cared not only to satisfy us but to satisfy themselves the work was done right and to the highest standard. For example, when the ceiling board didn't dry to Celio's satisfaction because of building insulation that was preventing proper venting. He asked our permission to extend the job a day-- at no charge-- in order to bring in a special plasterer to get it just right. We agreed, and are glad we did. It allowed him to achieve a perfect job though it was not at all his fault to begin with!

All went very well. Socelvic did an excellent job, and cleaned up well after themselves each day on the property. Alex oversaw the crew. My only complaint was occasional lack of communication, e.g., crew not showing up one day because of rain forecast and we wasn't told. I followed each day's work closely, pointing out areas that needed repair or asking questions. I think not everyone can spare the time to do that, but it was worth the trouble. Example: When I pointed out a problem with one carpenter's work (replacing some rotted window trim), Celio came to property himself, viewed work, and agreed that it could be done better and got a different carpenter to re-do it. Alex talked me through different parts of the job very patiently; he's an agreeable guy. The start of this year's job has been a bit rocky compared to last year, with repeated re-schedulings and strong pressure to pay over 80% of estimated cost before anyone had even touched the building. (I said No; we have already paid 65% of estimate between large deposit with contract signing and 40% payment up front, and still work hasn't started). But I'm sure that once work begins, Socelvic will deliver with their usual professionalism and care and we will be as pleased with the final work as we were last year.

After about a week, a representative of the company called and scheduled a visit to do an estimate on a Tuesday morning. The contractor arrived on time and called my co-owner. Due to some fluke of the cell phone service, the call went to voicemail and the phone didn't ring. My co-owner discovered the message about 5 minutes later and called back. The call went to voicemail. She went downstairs to see if the contractor was outside. No one was there, and no one had rung the doorbell. She left a second message. Later the same day, she called the company's main number and left a message asking about rescheduling. It's been five days and there's been no reply.

The final product is excellent and we are very pleased with the workmanship. The removal of the old stairs was done quickly and the debris disappeared right away. The new stairs are very solid and well built. They explained that they used larger posts underneath than some contractors to give it a very solid and sturdy feel. They suggested using mahogany instead of fir. It turned out great. The wood was not much more expensive than fir, only a couple of hundred dollars more, and the look is superior and the mahogany is extremely solid and durable and resistant to bugs. The workmanship was top quality. All of the treads were screwed in, and not nailed. This will make it easy to remove and replace a single board if necessary. The stairs are solid and very attractive. They paid attention to little details, such as plugging the screw holes on the risers and replacing fascia on the side of the house, and making sure the temperature was warm enough to apply sealant. Once the work got going, the workmen were always on site first thing in the morning and worked hard all day. The project was 3-4 days total, and they even did the seal coating the day before Thanksgiving. The top guys, Celio and Junior were frequently on the site, doing some work themselves and the crew was friendly and polite. They always explained what they were doing and why, and asked before making any decisions. Our only criticism is that after we made our deposit, we did not hear from the company for a while and we did not know when the job would be scheduled. Certainly contractors can get busy and schedules change but it was frustrating not to hear back, at least to keep the lines of communication open. However, once the job was scheduled it went quickly and everyone was very professional, from Ana in the office to the workmen on site. The workmanship and materials are high quality and the price was reasonable for the job. I would recommend SOCELVIC for this type of work. Their estimate was lower than two other contractors and the work is great. This is a company that knows what they are doing and takes pride in their work.
Description of Work: SOCELVIC removed an old set of wooden stairs that served as the main entrance to our two-family home, and replaced it with a new staircase made mostly of wood and some PVC composite. The treads and railings and posts are made of mahogany. Lastly they seal-coated the wood to weatherize it.
