We were getting tremendous noises from our radiators and suspected we needed to have the boiler flushed. Arthur came out within a few days and suggested an additive to the boiler in addition to flushing. Our radiators have been much quieter ever since!

Arthur had made an appointment but was able to come by earlier so that was nice. He was very thorough with our systems, even cleaning some things that had been missed by every other HVAC company we've had here. We were having a problem with a pump and Arthur had one in his truck and was able to install it. Our systems are fairly new but we're glad to know that Arthur would be there for an emergency should one arise. We were familiar with Arthur from our old furnaces a loooong time ago and it was nice to see that he and John are still around and providing great service.

I was so impressed with Fire and Ice HVAC. Jon and Arthur were able to come to our home within two hours of first calling them - a very pleasant surprise considering the forecast for the next day was below zero! They were professional while approachable by answering my many questions. I like to learn about "home problems" and know what's going on, and they are both the type of people who enjoy teaching others about their trade - in addition to helping people get their heat back during a NE winter! Not only did they diagnose our problem quickly (arrived around 4p, diagnosed issue around 4:15), they worked together as a team to get the part needed that very same day so that we could get heat back asap (part brought to our house around 5:30, which was fast considering rush hour traffic in Boston!). If we every have another HVAC issue again, we will most definitely call on them. Thank you for your great service!

Fire & Ice are excellent. They were very quick to respond when I communicated with them by email to find the price for service maintenance for two furnaces and to schedule a time. Arthur (one of the two owners) called me to let me know when he was on his way to me. The work itself (examining two furnaces, doing a safety check and performing maintenance) went very smoothly. Arthur was professional, courteous, and considerate. He was happy to answer my many questions. He gave what I felt was honest feedback about our HVAC system (e.g., in sufficiently good shape to need service only every couple of years). Very positive experience, I would be happy to hire again for any HVAC-related work.

These guys are the best. They responded right away and when they showed up and realized the job required a lot more work than expected (chimney was full of debris) they took their time to explain the situation, answer my questions, and provide advice. As a first time homeowner, I really appreciated that. They stayed late to make sure I would have heat overnight.

Arthur was great. Came the same day, right when he said he would. Seemed smart, and clearly knew this type of system (high efficiency boiler etc) very well. Worked quickly and efficiently, and was thorough in investigating other possible issues. More expensive than I would have liked, but that seems par for the course, and unlike some other plumbers I've dealt with, I trust both his competence and his integrity. Recommended.

I had a great experience with Jon and Arthur from Fire & Ice. I called the company and got an appointment for the next day. Jon arrived promptly and diagnosed an electrical issue with my central heating system. He repaired it and also secured the exhaust pipe that was loose. I then asked them to do a full maintenance inspection which took place two days later. Everything went smoothly. Jon and Arthur were very professional and explained everything in detail. They did not push any extras. In fact, when I asked about a service contract, Jon stated that they did not offer any but would come out as needed. I really appreciate that and will definitely call them to do a maintenance inspection of my air conditioning in June.

I chose the company because of reviews and awards for "super service", but I think now that part of them were due to the complexity of the equipment which does not allow a non-specialist to tell good from bad, and to the fact that for HVAC repairs it's close to impossible to get an estimate over the phone even when you know for sure what is wrong. Jonathan arrived very soon after my call. He replaced one part, which was not really necessary to do, installed another, which was not necessary at all, added refrigerant, which caused more harm than good (next morning he offered to come and remove some) ( total cost - $1,119). While working he mentioned the "termal expansion valve" as a possible cause. _After that_ he proceeded to make sure that his understanding was correct, and the valve was the culprit - instead of checking it from the very beginning. He suggested replacing it for another $4,000. When asked to submit an estimate, he promised to send it and disappeared forever. The job, finally, was done by "Sila" for $2,388.

Response from Fire & Ice HVAC LLC
Dear Sir, Thank you for your report. I recall the visit to your home over the summer. Upon arrival, I noticed the start capacitor was weak as the measured microfarads were a fraction of what was required to start the equipment and that the condition of the condenser overall was in dire need of maintenance which I provided free of charge. Once I had the condenser unit operating properly, I proceeded to check the refrigerant levels. With you right beside me, I diagnosed immediately that the suction pressure was low and the head pressure was slightly low and are typically attributed to dirty air filter, closed vent registers, clogged evaporator coil or worst case a seized thermal expansion valve. A seized valve is only found when refrigerant is added to the system and pressures of the refrigerant in a running system are monitored to see if the head pressure rises without change to the suction pressure proving that there is a restriction - in this case a partially closed thermal expansion valve. I then proved to you by opening up the evaporator coil cabinet and showing you that only 25% of the coil was cold which further proved that the valve was broken and needed replacement. I asked you if you wanted me to remove the refrigerant as the system would not have any cooling at all if I removed it or if you wanted to leave it charged as I managed to get you some cooling as you were on the fence about moving forward with the valve replacement work. Lastly, in terms of the pricing, the cost of $4,000 to replace valve was the Total Cost inclusive of my visit to your home that day. Apparently you misunderstood our discussion and the invoice I sent you. We take a lot of pride in our work and seem to be one of the few companies around that are able to diagnose thermal expansion valve issues. Sila company would not have made that diagnosis but instead would have tried to upsell you new equipment as they are very well known to do. The only reason they replaced that valve is based upon my accurate diagnosis of your cooling issue. Hopefully everything with the repair that was performed works out well for you. Regards, Jon

I was looking for a new heating and air conditioning company and was delighted with Fire and Ice. I spoke initially with Arthur, one of the owners. He was friendly, welcoming, and got me a quick appointment, which I really needed because I couldn't get any heat. The repair man who came exactly at the time promised was wonderful. John took care of everything quickly and fully and willingly responded to all of my questions. It was great to be dealing with someone who answered fully and willingly, and was glad to deal with whatever I asked. Will be happy to have them handle all my problems in the future.

Fire & Ice have been our go-to HVAC experts for four years now. They have performed both routine maintenance services and on one occasion emergency repairs when our A/C unit iced over and flooded our attic. Each time, they have been wonderful to work with, immediately responsive, and 100% transparent about cost and time expectations. When we were nursing our unit through a 85 degree night this summer, one of the owners called to check in several times after hours, just to make sure everything was stable enough to last until they could get parts the next day. I'm certain that, had the unit flooded again, he would have come over, regardless of the time.

I just moved into a new home and had a very noisy A/C. I called thinking I would need to wait a while for an appointment, but Arthur picked up right away and was able to come the next morning. He not only took great care in resolving my issue, even spending time on the phone with the manufacturer to make sure he was doing everything according to their specifications, but he took the time to explain what he was doing and make recommendations for upkeep and optimal usage as well. A terrific experience!

Our heater went out during the cold snap in 2018 with a two year old at home and a baby on the way and they were able to fit us in, order the unit and get it installed very quickly. The work was of high quality and based on other estimates we received it was a very reasonable price. We were so thankful they were willing to go out of their way to help us out and get the job done. We would definitely hire them again.

I can't say enough good things about this company! I hired them about 8 years ago to install a central air conditioning system in our home, and then again last year to install a new, high-efficiency gas boiler for our heating system. They have come by several times over the years to perform maintenance or fix problems with the air conditioning. Jon and Artie, the owners, are extremely knowledgeable and always have been able to fix any problems that have arisen. For example, when it appeared that the compressor on our air conditioning unit had failed (likely from a power surge from the electric grid), they worked some magic on it and got it running again, saving us thousands of dollars (what a replacement would have cost). They are the most responsive contractors I have ever worked with. They answer their phones when called, or call back right away. They usually make time to come fix a problem the same day I call, even if it means coming in the late afternoon or evening. They even came over when my air conditioner quit on me the afternoon of July 3 during a heat wave, even though they were very busy and eager to start their July 4 holiday. I highly recommend them.

Jonathan Ranieri arrived, assessed the situation, explained what was needed and made the appropriate repairs and fixes. He was courteous and professional during the process. He worked late to ensure everything worked properly and advised me on things I could do myself to ensure proper maintenance for the system. He made sure to show me what needed repair, the reasons why and alternatives based on short term versus long term needs. I never felt like he was recommending unnecessary repairs or services and will contact Fire and Ice for HVAC maintenance in the future,

I had worked with another HVAC company that really disappointed me. Misdiagnosed the problem, and I wound up paying $900 in parts I did not need. And, then they didn't show for a fourth appointment so I had to start calling other companies at the last minute last night to see if I could get someone else to come look at the problem. Arthur told me that he could come by that evening and promptly showed up when he said he would. He and his partner, John, were very thorough and helped solve an additional problem that I wasn't even aware of. My issue appears to be electrical, and they may have solved it by just adjusting some wiring. There is a more expensive part that I may need - but they did not immediately suggest that I buy it. We'll wait and see if the problem shows up again. They are competent, genuine, and will not suggest extra parts or fixes that are unnecessary. I was impressed that they were willing to field a last minute call and took an appointment at 7pm and did not finish up until after 8pm. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

My air conditioner stopped blowing cool air so I called Fire & Ice. On the phone, Arthur walked me through some basic troubleshooting to ensure that there were no obvious fixes. When that didn't work, they were able to squeeze me in same-day. The technician was punctual and courteous and took the time to explain to me exactly what was going on. He was quickly able to diagnose a leak and fixed it using a product called "Stop Leak"; he also topped up me up with 3-4lbs of coolant. All told, the tech was here for about an hour. While the service was pricey (I think Freon goes for $160/30lbs on Amazon, while Stop Leak is $10/can), I don't have the know-how to deal with HVAC issues myself and it was well worth it to have somebody reliable and knowledgeable deal resolve the issues for me.
