Extremely professional and responsive. Called me back within 1 hour. Arrived precisely on time on a Saturday. E-mailed me with follow-up answers within 24 hours. They were transparent with what needed to be done and what the urgency was. They were also transparent about the price before they did the job. I have noted that they were a little pricey, but on calling around it seems to be in keeping with what other HVAC vendors are charging (its the market that is expensive, not them in particular). I would use them again anytime. Excellent experience. I couldn't have asked for better service.

From the initial phone call to the completion of the job, every aspect of the project was performed punctually, professionally, and in a friendly manner. We are delighted with the end result, which has made the recent heat wave much more tolerable than it would have been otherwise.

I was able to get service from Fire & Ice on the same day I called. They taught me how to better care for my HVAC system so that I'll have less need to call in the future. They even showed me how to fix the problem that I called them for. They were more expensive than my last service provider, but in the long run, the knowledge they gave me will save me WAY more money. And they were friendly, quick, and easily fixed my problem. 2 big thumbs up!

Jon and Artie have been our favorite service providers every since they installed our unit two years ago. They are incredibly responsive, caring, attentive and terrific at what they do. You really feel as if they care deeply about us and our family. Quite amazing. This latest feat of service was in line with what we have come to expect from these two. Our unit went down at 10:30 at night during the heat wave. Staring down at a 98 degree day coming, we called to see if we could get service early the next day. Jon insisted on coming out that night -- he and Artie arrived at 11:00 at night and fixed the unit. I even tried to talk them out of coming -- feeling bad that it was so late. They insisted. Incredible dedication to customers.

My AC died on the 4th of July weekend (5th at night to be exact). I called around and these guys called me back within a few minutes of leaving a message. They were prompt and gave me a window of time they would arrive (2-4). They did say because of the holiday weekend it would cost $300 to come out to me. They came and diagnosed and fixed the problem within 20 minutes. My AC works and this very hot weekend could not have been made better without them! Would recommend them. Very professional

Jon and Artie rock! My air conditioning decided to tank, one evening. The blower was working, but there was no cold air. I called a total of 4 HVAC companies, over a period of three days, trying to get someone out in advance of the hot weather, this past weekend. One firm did not call back for 4 days. One firm responded in two, but they weren't available. A third firm could get me an appointment in 10 days. Jon, from Fire and Ice, called me back within a couple of hours and made an appointment for the next afternoon. They came out when they said they would, diagnosed the problem quickly, hunted down a specialty part and retrieved it during rush hour, came back that same evening replaced the part, replaced the damaged wires, checked refrigerant levels and made sure the system was up and running. A/C is working great. They're nice guys, responsive and do good work.

When I first called I left a message, but in less than ten minutes they got back to me. Very responsive. They came about a half hour after they said they would. They diagnosed the problem right away --it was the AC unit outside; needed a new part, and in 15 minutes cold air was coming into the apartment. It's a small company and both the owners, John and Arthur come. They were efficient, polite, professional and effective.

The guys from Fire & Ice were great. I called about a dozen HVAC companies on the third day of a four day heat wave and they came over within an hour. An hour after that, my house was cool. Can't ask for much more than that. The cost was a bit higher than I would've expected (7 pounds of Freon @ $70 / pound is what it is) plus $200+ for the service visit, but again, the guys were great and I would absolutely use them again.

Artie and Jon are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They were always on time, courteous, and efficient with their work. On a Friday night we realized that our heating system (gas furnace with radiators) at some point had stopped working properly. Saturday morning we called Fire & Ice and they were able come out in the early afternoon (weekend hourly rate applying of course). They diagnosed the problem quickly as being a malfunctioning damper, but that's a part that they were unable to get a replacement for during the weekend. So they made an appointment for Monday. And they showed me how to manually move the damper so that we wouldn't freeze in the meantime. Everything went according to plan on Monday, and the system has been working fine since then.

Description of Work: Our Heating System did not work and it was starting to get cold in our house. It was a Saturday morning, but the owners called back immediately and came within a 2 hours. They did not have the part that was needed. They picked it up on Monday and had it fixed by late Monday afternoon. It is a newer system and is run electronically so they had to call the technical people to help them diagnose it. They were able to do so and come up with a solution that was less expensive and easier than they anticipated. I have given their name to other friends. We would definitely work with them again.

I called Fire & Ice mainly due to their reviews here on Angie's List and I wanted someone to look at my furnace which is only 2.5 years old and was not keeping up with the extremely cold weather lately. They offered to come by that evening and take a look at 8pm. They quickly found that the second stage of the heating system was never engaging and so I wasn't getting about 30% of the heat that the system was capable of. After reprogramming the circuit board with the furnace, the second stage finally engaged and my house got warm fast. My heating system can now keep up just fine even in the extreme cold. I would definitely call them again in the future.

I live in a split-level apartment in a brownstone in Boston, and had had an individual from another large service company come out several months prior to diagnose our AC: the downstairs and bedrooms became extremely cold before the thermostat would begin to respond. Three months prior I had a technician from a large local HVAC office with many, many positive Angie's List reviews come out, who charged us $489 for several hours time and quoted us about $10,000 worth of additional work. The two F&I guys came out, took time to listen/understand what we were experiencing, talk through their thoughts, and then checked out the major cost contributors to the $10K worth of work recommended previously. Additionally when I referenced the thermostat not responding to temperature changes quickly, they immediately said, "You know, have you ever looked behind that to see if the hole in the wall is filled in?" Indeed there was a hole in the wall expelling consistently warm(er) air; they caulked the hole and went about diagnosing other problems. On their second visit they reversed a duct feeding an internal space near the thermostat (changing from air intake to air discharge), and left me with recommendations on what to do come wintertime. During their visit(s) I didn't feel pressured to take on bigger and larger work commitments, although they did have a moderate sense of urgency about our interactions which I appreciated. I read another review that was critical of these guys' pricing. Worth noting the price I paid (and which they quoted) reflected two of them coming out; I felt that they were able to work fairly quickly, and that they came to a better & faster conclusion about what was wrong between the two of them, versus one guy (with a lower total hourly rate) doing the diagnosis and work on his own.
Description of Work: In the diagnostic visit the guys consulted on solutions to what was being observed, filled in a hole in the wall behind the thermostat, and balanced some of the registers. They also checked the conclusions / recommendations made by a prior technician, including dismantling the casing around the heating coils that had been recommended for cleaning (a job cited by prior technician to require several hours worth of work). Ultimately they (we) dismissed nearly all of the costly prior recommendations. I believe they spent 1.5-2 hrs doing the diagnosis, $400. For the actual work, they reversed an air intake to make it an air discharge, and performed some other minor maintenance. $800 including materials, which they quoted verbally on their first visit.

Our furnace blower had stopped. Jon and Artie came the same day at 5:00 to help (when other contractors were unable to come). They performed a temporary fix to get the heat back on for a few days and provided an estimate for two options (1) replacing the blower motor on the existing furnace and (2) installing a new furnace. I'm likely to do the former. They were very courteous and professional.

Our AC system needed a refridgerant charge and Fire and Ice came over, charged up the system and checked it out. They did some routine maintainance and were very good about getting the system back to tip top condition. They were punctual, friendly and I think that their prices were reasonable (ours is an old system that uses the old-style refrigerant which is no longer used, so that costs extra). The entire job probably didn't take more than a couple of hours

We had worked with Jon and Arthur before and had an equally good experience this time. We were considering installation of central air into our 3-story 1836 colonial. Other contractors had recommended central air for first floor only and ductless A/C for second floor at a cost of ~$26,000 (stating that ductless A/C throughout would require 7 outdoor units and be cost-prohibitive) or central air for 2 floors at a cost of ~$40,000, plus possible additional construction needed to disguise ductwork. Jon and Arthur were prompt in coming out to give an estimate and recommended ductless A/C throughout, with the benefit of use of the ductless systems as heat pumps in winter. They installed 3 outdoor units, connecting to 7 indoor wall-mounted units, each with a separate thermostat. They completed the work quickly, coming evenings and weekends to get it done before the worst heat of summer. They also returned a couple of times to install custom covers to camoflage the outdoor wiring. We are very happy with the product and the service. We have saved on both our cooling and heating costs since installation, and the house temperature is much easier to regulate, even in rooms that do not have a unit, due to placement of the units in adjoining rooms.

I engaged Fire and Ice to do normal maintenance on my furnace after moving into a new place. Soon after their visit, the furnace began intermittently shutting off. They came back but could not find anything to repair. After visits from two other contractors (many, costly visits), the problem was traced to a faulty gas valve. I can't say for sure that the work F&I did caused this, but there had been no problem previously, and the problem started right after their visit, so I have to assume that in the process of doing their maintenance (including banging around with a vacuum cleaner), they did something to damage the valve. Perhaps it was getting ready to fail anyway -no way to know - but I wouldn't use them again. THat said, they were very nice guys, very professional - but I still wouldn't take the chance again.
