Williams is excellent, and now our go to for plumbing, heating, cooling needs. We bought a new house, and wanted to take advantage of the Mass Save rebates for installing a new, high efficiency boiler. We got three quotes and WIlliams was right in the middle (the range wasn't truly very wide)), but we were immediately impressed with their responsiveness and professionalism (provided a written estimate where the others would not), so it was an easy choice to select Williams for the work. We were a little late in getting the appointment set up, and these guys were booking quickly as late fall was quickly approaching, as well as the deadline to get the work done in time for the Mass Save rebate. Williams squeezed us in for the work just in time!! The quality of work was excellent. As we were relocating the heating system, Williams made sure any down time for heat/hot water was very limited, which was appreciated. They were very clean, and you could barely tell there was even a relocation. One other topic I think worth noting: I pride myself on obsessively researching major projects. Initially, during the quote, Williams suggested a boiler once size up from the size I thought would be necessary, and I was worried this would cause a conflict. However, after explaining my thoughts Williams agreed without hesitation to put in the boiler I wanted (no guilt trip or offense), and it has worked out perfectly. I say this to mean that they are really happy to work with you, and explain their recommendations well, without belittling your non-plumber opinion. That, in my opinion, is a sign of excellent customer service. These guys are great, and we will continue to use them without hesitation.
Description of Work: Replacement and relocation of the existing boiler (gas powered) and separate hot water heater, with a high efficiency, condensing boiler and indirect water heater. Subsequently, I have used these guys for other smaller plumbing jobs as well.

We woke up on a Saturday to discover we had no heat or hot water. Checking on the furnace we discovered that there was a warning light flashing and one of the pipes was slowly leaking. We called William's emergency hotline, as it was a weekend and they were closed. The answering service took our info and said we'd get a call back in an hour. Not even 10 minutes later we got a call from the technician. We described the problem and he asked us to inspect a few things, after which he explained what he thought the issue was, and asked us if we wanted him to come out or if we wanted to wait until Monday. We asked him to come fix it ASAP. He was on site in under an hour. He inspected the whole system and explained everything to us as he went along. He said that the leak was simply a result of a gasket cooling and shrinking a bit as the water in the pipe was no longer hot. He tightened a few bolts and that was fixed. He also explained that the aquastat needed to be replaced. After that he tried to start the boiler back up - no go, which was confusing because the fuel gauge on the oil tank read 3/4 full. We have 2 250 gallon tanks, only one of which has a gauge. He knocked on the other tank - sure enough it was empty. Only one of them was 3/4 full and it's valve was clogged, so the whole situation was apparently caused by us running out of fuel, while we actually had about 200 gallons still in the tank. He hooked up what looked like bicycle pump to the other end of the fuel line and was eventually able to dislodge whatever was clogging up the valve, which allowed the fuel in the two tanks to equalize, and fuel to flow to the boiler again. In all he was on site about 2 hours on a Saturday. We never discussed how much it was going to cost. With a 6 month old in the house, we just couldn't be without heat and hot water for the whole weekend, so we didn't really care too much what the fee would be. We were assuming around $500. We extremely happy to get the bill for only $210 the following week. We don't have too much experience with the other aspects of William's Coal and Oil's business, but for Oil delivery and boiler service, we're very happy with them

This plan was set up in 2010. Salesman when first came and looked at our system was very professional and courteous. In 2010, they started deliveries and came and did the preventive cleaning maintenance that I was told was given every year free with the continued deliveries. In 2011, oil boiler stopped working. I called for service which they did respond promptly. Technician told me there was a bad sensor and it was overdue for a cleaning so that was performed as well. I called office and asked if we needed to call each year to schedule cleanings or if they automatically called us as we were also getting the auto deliveries of oil. Was told that they called us to schedule. In 2012 no one ever called to schedule and with day to day things, I didn't remember that preventive cleaning was never done. In 2013, boiler stopped working late at night, I ended up having to open boiler myself and clean the oil crud that had accumulated on the sensor so it would fire up(technician previously had showed me). I got in running and called the next day to inquire about my cleaning, was told I would be contacted to set up a time. No one ever called back. Now in 2014 with winter coming, I just called to inquire as no one has still called me. I asked if it was up to me to call in for preventative maintenance and was told that and quot;noand quot; they will call us. When I mentioned no one has called me in 3 years, she looked up address, then put me on hold ( I could hear another phone ringing in background). After quite a few minutes she came back and asked all over who I was and where I lived, finally looked us up and stated I needed a new contract and cleaning would cost me $267.00. I was very shocked and reminded her that I was told the annual cleaning were free with deliveries (oil price has always been slightly hire than others but figured this was the added cost for cleanings spread out over deliveries). Well needless to say, I've been duped and of course they just filled tank up today! I will be find a more reputable company for future business. Again, the service tech were great, if you just want (like many do) oil deliveries and preventative cleanings, I'd steer clear of this company.

A few weeks ago we had our main sewer line clog up and called Williams to clear it. I actually had no idea they had a full plumbing service, we had used them for our oil for years and were very happy with them. They came out that morning to clear it and pointed out just how bad the main line had gotten and recommended replacing it. I called for a quote and scheduled the repair a week later. They arrived promptly at 8am to measure for parts and the job was done by 3pm. They replaced the main line with PVC and ran new pipe and fittings for the toilet, kitchen sink, washer, and tub. They did an incredible job, everything is nice and clean and draining so much better. I would definitely recommend them and we will be using them for all of our plumbing from now on.

They lined the chimney with a stainless steel liner, removed old fuel oil tank and oil as well. They took the old furnace and the scrap as well. It went very well, I believe the price was reasonable. Gary was the man that I dealt with. I called and made the appointment for the free estimate. He showed up on time and looked everything over, by the time he had the estimate completed I was home and received the email. I accepted the estimate and scheduled from there. The installation went well, they did some of the work with no one being home. I was very pleased and things seem to have gone well. I was always able to get someone on the phone, they also do heat oil delivery service as well as plumbing. I replaced the old oil boiler with a new gas boiler. The old boiler had been converted from fuel to gas.

Overall this company did a great job at this and any other problem I had while using their services for 5+ years. The service they provided took some getting used to as I was new to the area; however, after I spoke with Heidi the problems were resolved. For home heating oil services their prices are consistently slightly below the market price. You may be able to find lower prices that lock you into a long term contract. Not Williams. Always fair pricing and great service.

My 98 year old Mom had a dysfunctional high-end air conditioner that was over 20 years old. The fan worked, but the cooling system did not. She thought she would need an entirely new system, based on estimates given her by others. In detail, the other companies told her she needed to replace both the indoor and outdoor units. The indoor component is quite large, and about 10 feet above the floor, and matches her walls. The outdoor unit is about as big as a heat exchanger. It is almost like a commercial level system. I looked inside the outdoor unit, and discovered wires severed by mice, and a lot of corrosion. However, the indoor component seemed fine and the fan and electrical parts of the indoor unit worked fine. The price of a new system comparable to her older one would have been way beyond her budget. She had been told that BOTH units absolutely had to be replaced. Replacing the system would have required structural changes in the wall or decorating changes that did not suit her, and the price was way beyond her budget. As a result, she had let the system sit, broken, for a couple of years. I became very concerned because of the possibility of summer heat waves affecting her, at her age. I live 4 hours away, so I could not stay to monitor any service or work that might be needed. I called Williams, not even sure if the system could be fixed. They came over right away, while I was still visiting my Mom. They confirmed what I had thought, that there was no need for my Mom to have to buy an entirely new system. Only the outside unit needed repair. The inside unit was fine. They were able to provide a fair ball-park estimate of what was needed. Not only did they come immediately to evaluate the problem, they took the time to find the older parts to repair the system and they kept my Mom abreast of their progress. They treated her with respect, and charged a fair price for the work that they did. The entire system works like a charm, now. If my Mom had relied on the advice given her by other HVAC companies, she would have either gone without, or had to pay out thousands more to replace the old system. I cannot say enough about the time and attention taken by Williams Coal and Oil to make sure my Mom was OK.

George (master plumber) and his guys have been great every time we've used them; this was just the most recent project. They explained things well, and though they're not super cheap -- I think the rate's around $130 an hour, but that seems to include basic materials, and the rate doesn't go up if there's two guys -- they're definitely fair-priced. They stand by their work, too -- they came back a couple of weeks later to fix the faucet, as some debris in the faucet was clogging the cold water flow, at no charge.
Description of Work: Williams replaced much of our old brass pipes with new copper piping, capped and then replaced our old sink hook-ups (which were so old they had no shut-off valves!), installed a new sink and installed a new dishwasher.

These guys were terrific. They showed up on time for both the estimate (sales guy) and the installation (plumbers), and were very friendly. Pretty funny, too! We got two estimates for the job, both of which were within $75 of each other; Williams showed up on time for the estimate, so we went with them. The job was well done, they were able to make adjustments to put the water heater in a more out-of-the way spot, and they even replaced some corroding pipes that weren't a part of the original estimate. They also arranged for the inspection with the city inspector the next day so all I had to do was leave the basement open. I even called after 5pm on the day of installation, long after they had left, because I noted some steam coming out of our boiler; the receptionist was quick to connect me to the master plumber, who explained precisely why it was happening and why I needn't be alarmed (there was still residual water left in the disconnected pipes inside the boiler, which would evaporate after about 10 minutes).
Description of Work: Remove old tankless hot water system from oil boiler, install new 40-gallon hot water heater, and extend existing gas and water pipes to new fixture (includes permits + cost of hw heater).
