This was the single most horrible experience I have had working with a company. The problem was mis-diagnosed (an exhaust fan $2,100 was recommended when a much cheaper smoke screen did the job). Technician was 2 hrs late for first appt. No call. Following week tech arrived (2 hrs late-no call) only to find flue needed to be extended at top of chimney, another delay. While there, tech broke out existing damper and found fan was not necessary. Three subsequent appts to install new damper, flue tiles and smoke screen were canceled. One appt ended when smoke screen package was found to be missing parts. Meanwhile, I lost heat for over a month with no damper. I laid out specific requirements for time when work could be completed. These were not communicated to the tech (who is actually good) by the front office-Harman Droge (who is not). Three more failed attempts to have work done. Work finally completed 3 months after 1st contact. Mr. Droge cannot spell client service.
Description of Work: My chimney was not drawing properly and smoke rolled back into the room. Original fix was to install a fan at top of chimney (the most expensive solution). After more research, the actual work done was to install a 6" smoke screen and to extend flue tiles at top of chimney to bring it to code. I also had to have a new damper installed to replace the damper broken out during the second "diagnostic phase". My mistake was my wanting to have the work done before the holidays and putting a hefty deposit down on what turned out to be an unnecessary piece of equipment. Once the deposit was in hand, I was over a barrel as to my ability to "fire" this company, which I would have done after what turned out to be half a dozen missed appointments, extremely unprofessional front office responses, and 3 months (Nov-Feb) to complete the work.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: SHE CALLED BECAUSE OF SMOKE PROBLEMS, THE THROAT DAMPER WAS BROKEN, WE TOOK IT OUT AND REPLACED WITH A TOP SEALING DAMPER MORE EFFICIENT AND THAT WOULD PAY FOR ITSELF IN HEATING SAVINGS. DIAGNOSING AND RESOLVING A SMOKE ISSUE PROBLEM IS A OFTEN TIMES A RULING OUT PROCESS. WE FIRST TRIED A SMOKE GUARD EXTENSION PIECE WITH A TEMPLATE, WHEN THIS DID NOT WORK AND DIDN'T IDENTIFY A DOWN DRAFT OR CONSTRUCTION PROBLEM WE OPTED FOR AN EXHAUST FAN SOLUTION. THIS TAKES ELECTRICIAN SUBCONTRACTOR MINIMUM CHARGE OF 3 HOURS TO INSTALL, WHEN WE CAME BACK TO INSTALL I NOTED MY TECH HAD MISSED THE FACT THE TOP 3 FLUE TILE WITHIN THE CHIMNEY HAD NOT BEEN INSTALLED AND THE FLUE TILES ENDED ABRUPTLY AS A CONTRACTOR OVERSIGHT. AS THIS MIGHT BE A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE DRAFT PROBLEM I SUGGESTED WE NOT INSTALL TO THE EXPENSE TO THE CUSTOMER, THE EXHAUST FAN UNTIL WE HAD RULED OUT THE FLUE TILE BY REPLACING THEM, AS I WAS PAYING FOR THE LICENSED MASTER ELECTRICIAN TO PERFORM WORK WE WOULD BE NEEDED THAT DAY AND HE WAS THERE AND THE CUSTOMER WAS INCONVIENCED I HAD HIM DO SOME BASIC WIRING SHE NEEDED OUT OF MY CHIMNEY SCOPE OF WORK FREE OF CHARGE TO HER FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. AT ANY POINT IF THE CUSTOMER HAD ASKED FOR A REFUND OF THE DEPOSIT SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN PROVIDED SUCH, HOWEVER IN FACT THE WORK WAS PERFORMED, THE EXTRA EXPENSE WAS SAVED THE CUSTOMER, PROBLEM WAS SOLVED AT THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE AND PROPER MEANS AND SHE WAS GIVEN THE CUSTOMER TIGHT SCHEDULING TERMS .
