The Trash Removal Co

One of the worst experiences I've had hiring someone to provide a service. My wife's cousin lived in senior housing in Brighton, MA, and has moved into a nursing home. I called Brian on Wednesday 3/31 because his firm, The Trash Removal Company, was A-rated in Angie's List and was based in Boston. He agreed over the phone to haul and dispose of the furniture, which consisted of a couch, a bed, some tables, a lounge chair, other chairs, carpets, two TVs, and various other items. I told him that we had to move out by Saturday 4/3 or my cousin would incur another month's rent. He assured me he would be there between 9 and 10 a.m. At 10 he called and said he was in Foxboro but would be at the apartment in an hour. At 11, I called him and he said he had sent his nephew, who had tried to call me. I suggested he check with the nephew to make sure he had the right telephone number. A few minutes later, the nephew called and said he was a half hour away. But he didn't arrive until noon, with a friend. I asked him where was the truck. He said they didn't have one but were driving a jeep because Brian was in the middle of another job and was using the truck. They apologized for the tardiness and said they could take all the furniture down to the street, so my wife and I could leave the apartment, and then they would move it piece by piece to the junkyard. This was totally inappropriate for a building that is senior housing and located in the middle of the city. Moreover, I wasn't going to pay them without knowing that all the furniture had been hauled, and we didn't want to wait more long hours as they moved each piece of furniture to the dump. I'm writing this, because I think an A rating in Angie's List represents top quality, and customers need to know that at least in this case, The Trash Removal Company failed to perform an agreed-upon service. As importantly, Brian neglected to tell the customers he was unable to perform but instead kept us waiting two hours and sent his nephew with a totally inadequate vehicle. The firm clearly does not deserve a passing grade much less an A rating.

I contacted Brian 9/2 morning and he gave me the best quote. Another company has min. charge of $250. Brian came right after (about an hour) and removed 12 bags of yard waste. He is very friendly, professional and hard working guy. I am very happy to work with him.

I contacted Brian on Wednesday for a quote to take away a large, octagon shaped picnic table. He quoted me about $50 which was far below what I was being quoted by anyone else ($100-$166). When I gave the quote at our condo meeting we of course thought of a few other things that could be removed: an old dehumidifer, a large (and incredibly heavy) bucket of concrete that had been left by a contractor, and a set of blown speakers. I called Brian on Thursday morning and he was at our place within half an hour, since he was already in the area. He said he would take it all away for $100, since the dehumidifier may have hazardous materials. He and his partner Aaron were incredibly courteous and friendly. They worked quickly and had everything out in no time. Great guys and a great experience.
