Stairhopper Movers

The movers were extremely slow. It took them twice as long to load the truck as it had to unload it when we first moved in. The would make trips down to the truck sometimes carrying a single item such as a bicycle helmet. Multiple times they got distracted down by the truck and would waste 5-10 minutes doing something unrelated, which can be very expensive when you're paying $120/hour.

The move went well, they were on time both for pickup and delivery and their team of three men worked efficiently. The apartment entrance is a long way from the street and it's on the second floor with no elevator. They had no complaints at all and just handled it fine. They were good about asking where to put the furniture and various boxes when unloading, and cleaned up packing materials before they left.

They did a good job. They were courteous, and punctual.

They 3 guys arrived right on time (actually 5 minutes early). They were professional, careful and worked very hard. I also found the booking process easy and responsive. The only reason I did not give 5 stars overall was that they did not honor the $315 coupon I bought from Angie's list. I had spoke with Stairhopper before purchasing the Angie's list coupon and even inquired over the phone if I could use the Angie's list coupon and a $50 yelp coupon I had. They said yes, but on the day of the move, they said they couldn't accept it due to the rate they had quoted me first which was lower than that mentioned in the Angie's list ad. This was disappointing and didn't completely make sense, but I did get a full refund the next day, so Angie's list honored their refund policy. Again, good movers, good move, just an issue with the deal.

They did a fantastic job! I did think they were very polite, especially the office staff. Diana was wonderful to deal with. She was very helpful, and encouraging!

These folks confirmed my appointment, and even showed up 15 minutes early!! They knew about the Angie's List coupon I had purchased and were raring to go. They worked tirelessly, and the job was much bigger than even I thought. They worked so very hard that I was happy to give them a supper break which they only took for 10 minutes. In total my job took 12 hours and every moment of that was spent packing and moving. NOTHING was harmed or broken, and I was so impressed by the ability to keep working hard and fast to get through a monumental job. They couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating, and I was very happy to pay the reasonable hourly rate for the hours beyond the coupon. These guys are GREAT!!! I would use them again in a heartbeat!!

I recommend this moving company very highly. This was the first time I had hired a moving company, and I had heard many horror stories from others about moving companies in general. From the start of the process to the very end, this company was superb. They did everything - packing, moving, and unpacking. We moved from Boston, MA to Arlington, VA. There was nothing wrong at any step of the way. The movers were very professional, courteous, and helpful. The packing was done quickly but carefully, and nothing was damaged. They drove the truck while we drove down in our car. Everything was done on time and on schedule. The price was also quite reasonable. I strongly recommend this firm.

They came when they were supposed to, got done on time....no complaints. I would use them again. There was some question on the time. The three hours that I purchased count from the time they left their warehouse until they returned. So it depends on where you live based on where they are located.

Overall I would rate this experience as below average. It is important to note that the movers charge from the time they leave their shop until the time they return. And while this isn't uncommon in the industry, I find it odd they won't call you to tell you they've left their shop and are on their way. In addition to being inconvenient (it would be nice to know the movers were about to arrive) it's frustrating that there is no way to actually check how much time they're billing you for. I purchased a 3 hour block of time to move my one bedroom apartment 4 miles away, with an intermediate stop in South End to pick up two items. I thought I might use all of the block of time plus a little given there can be traffic around Boston. Also, keep in mind all these places (my apartment, my roommate's place, and the condo) are within 5.5 miles of their office). The move ended up taking 8 hours. (I was actually billed for 8.5 but that was due to me missing their call when they were down stairs for 25 mins so I won't hold that 0.5 hours against them). My biggest complaint has to do with how much time they charge for. Keep in mind, these guys charged me $145/hour. There were times when we were packing up my apartment all three movers were down stairs at once. They left sometimes for 15 minutes at a time. It could not have taken three people to move items around a truck. And while not everything was in a box when they showed up, they were never waiting for me. In fact, I started to disassemble my bed (something I had planned on paying them to do) because they were moving so slow. Another example of their slowness...the movers went to pick up my roommate's furniture in the South End. Due to a miscommunication between me and my roommate, I arrived at his place AFTER the movers had already left. Realizing the movers were ahead of me, I went to my new condo in Jamaica Plain. I beat the movers there by 20 min!!! I understand they are driving slow to protect my belongings and to be safe with the truck. But there's cautious and then there's slow for sake of over charging your clients. When it was time for them to head back, they added their return commute time to my final bill. I checked google maps before they left. WITH traffic, google maps said it would take 27 minutes to get back, but they charged me for 45 minutes. And this time there weren't even goods in the truck to protect. There were other annoyances I was over charged for as well. For instance, they charge for boxes, tape, mattress bags, etc. A mattress bag from uhaul is $3, they charge $10. And while you could shop ahead of time and provide all those things, they wouldn't even use some of the items I had prepurchased. They also charge for tape they use by the roll. But when I got back to my apartment, I found rolls of tape with 25% still remaining. Finally, they damaged my ceiling when moving stuff into my new home. Yes it wasn't a huge damage, but I had just spent $2700 making the home perfect before I moved in. Still I understand stuff happens. The foreman was apologetic and understood why I was upset. The movers on the other hand were lobbying him (and me) that the damage wouldn't cost anything to fix. That it wasn't a big deal, that no one would see it. The whole thing was really unprofessional on their part. The positives...none of our stuff was broken or damaged. The company provided me reimbursement on the spot for the damaged ceiling for the exact amount I asked for ($100 - not a huge sum). And overall, the foreman was nice enough. But as decent as the outcome was, I couldn't help but feel taken advantage of. The total price below is the cost for the moving job only. It does not include the 0.5 hours that was my mistake, it does not include $160 for parking permits in the South End, it does not take into account the discount they gave me for damaging my ceiling, and it does not include the supplemental insurance I purchased in the amount $225 to adequately protect my belongings. They only insure your stuff for $0.60/pound. As an example, I paid $2000 for a stone table. Even assuming it weights 300 lbs (which it does not) I would only have received $180 in case it was damaged. The total bill came to $1556 before the discount.

It was more expensive than I had thought. They charged me an hour for transportation, Cambridge to Charlestown. And I work in Charlestown and it takes me driving about 15 minutes so I was disappointed in that. Otherwise, it was all right. I think it cost me 800 total. It took them more time. There were only a few pieces of furniture. I had moved everything else. Overall, maybe a C, because they took my couch apart to move it, and they didn't put it back properly so now it's all apart. Price, I would say not great. I think they were perfectly professional.

Dave and his two co-workers were polite, efficient and worked quickly.

They were extremely efficient, probably only stopped for 30 min over the course of the entire day, and didn't charge for that time. Would definitely use again.

The guys were prompt and professional.

They were extraordinarily good. It took them about four hours to wrap and pack a significant amount of stuff and move everything out of the house. They worked efficiently and carefully, very mindful of damage -- of which there was none that we saw. They filled their truck -- masterfully putting 11 rooms of furniture and housewares into a truck that I never thought would hold it all -- and they did it with room to spare. They drove two hours to Cape Cod, then unpacked most of the truck into a storage area 10x15 to capacity -- again, with incredible efficiency -- then completed the job at the garage of the second home, also making the most efficient use of the space available. They were friendly, worked very well together (clearly enjoying each other's company) were unfailingly polite and were willing to do anything that was asked for them without any sign of complaint -- and after an arduous 10 hour day, as they were leaving I offered them a beer, which they politely refused. "Sorry," I was told, "we have to go back and work out." I would go way out of my way to use these guys again. They were the best I've ever seen.

Three-man crew was very good. I hadn't experienced a mover doing this much disassembly/reassembly of furniture before, but they were very quick about it, and everything was put back together like new. Overall, they were very fast and professional, and amazing at getting the truck down narrow streets. Only issue was with Angie's List coupon - wasn't accounted for on the invoice, even though I confirmed it via both phone and email when booking the move. One of the movers called in and it got straightened out, but it took 15-20 minutes or so. I wasn't billed for that extra time, which was nice.

They showed up on time, performed well and as asked, even took the time to re-wrap some delicate stuff for us. Did a great job shrink wrapping our couch, nothing got damaged in the trip!

The team was very professional, very efficient, and delivered as promise.

This is my second time using stairhoppers and I couldn't have been happier. I wasn't able to pack all my items on my own, so the movers were able to help me pack on moving day. They moved me from my third floor Boston apartment into my 1st floor Somerville apartment. I told them where to put things and assembled items. I would move with them again. I purchased the Angies list Coupon to save some extra money.

Awesome movers. Extremely professional, nice, patient, great job across the board. The only thing I could say that would be negative is that they WAY underestimated the number of hours required for our move and therefore the price. But the hourly price was still affordable compared to other companies, so overall a good value.
