Security system arrived in a timely manner. All components were in good working order. Took approx. 3 or 4 hrs to install system. everything worked as advertised. The only advise/complaint I have is the instructions says small dogs under 30lbs will not be picked up by the motion sensors as long as dog does not get close to sensors. THIS IS NOT CORRECT. My dog is 17lbs at best and he set it off. I would turn motion detectors upside down if you have any dog. Other than that like the system.

Items were shipped free. Shipping service used is very slow. Additional items were ordered in a separate order. They were shipped in a thinly padded yellow envelope. Boxes were crushed and the plastic faces on a couple of the motion sensors were dented. Not impressed. The system would not connect to their dispatch center which required several phone calls to get through. My system was not active in their system. After the call I was able to connect my system to their service. I was promised a phone call back to verify everything was working, didn't happen. I am not sure if I will keep the system. I have a few more days to decide. They have the best monthly fee. From what I understand the equipment you purchase can only be used or connected to their monitoring service.

They sent me the product. I did have a lot of problems for about three months, which was nerve wracking. But, I don't know whose fault it was. We bought it right before we went on a trip to Arizona for three months. The damn things were going off on my neighbors at 2 o'clock in the morning. So I was not happy. It was $350 for the product. The monitoring is extra. So, it's $350 plus $25 a month for as long as you use it. It's fine now. But in the beginning, it was a nightmare. It was terrible. I mean, when you're in Arizona and you've got this alarm system. The police were called three times and my neighbors were woken up. One of the batteries went. So the thing was going off. The product itself is fine now, now that it has all been tweaked and everything. The monthly price was more reasonable than others. But, all the problems I had in the beginning were just ridiculous. The people I talked to on the phone were decent.

Great system for the price!! It was easy to install, and has a test phase and a 3-day practice period, which were very helpful. The yard sign was not included in my package, but when I called them they immediately sent me 2 at no charge. The alarm went off once, and the police came right away. No complaints at all!

After an attempted break-in, and the fact I travel a good bit, I opted for a security system. However I didn't want to be locked into a contract with any service. I am fairly tech-saavy, and figured I could do it myself. I researched several different providers, and settled on SimpliSafe. I ordered the very basic system, and added to it as needed to suit ME. Products arrived, and installation was a snap. Sticking all the sensors on is the most time-consuming. I will say this....the initial cellular chip that came with the system is for a carrier in my area that SUCKS. It was about 3 months after my initial installation that I discovered this through talking with tech support on another matter (I forget what). Simplisafe promptly sent out a replacement SIM for one of the more reliable carriers in my area. I installed it and the base station was back up and running in no time. Additionally, because I have no home phone service, I wanted a backup to the cellular connection. They also provide me, free of charge, a broadband adapter that allows me to connect the base station to my home network. Before anyone gets their panties in a wad, my base station is in the middle of my house...far away from my router. HOWEVER, I do have a wireless "repeater" that also has two Ethernet ports on it. So....connect base station to broadband adapter via the RJ-11 (phone cord) cable. Connect broadband adapter to wireless repeater via Cat5 cable. Plug broadband adapter into a power source. Done. Now there is a back up to the cell service in case it becomes unavailable. I think the biggest drawback to this system is the lack of cameras, but it is my understanding they are working to fix this. However, it wasn't a show stopper for me. I just added cameras from another source (several actually). Why people have to have a one-stop shop for everything in their lives these days is beyond me. The actual monitoring system is outstanding, almost to a fault. If you forget to disarm the thing, and it goes off, better have your cell phone (or landline) handy because they WILL be calling you. I accidentally shut the cat in the garage, and she set off the motion detector. Because I have a camera (see above post) in the garage, I connected to it, and saw Ms. Prissy happy as a clam laying on the garage floor. Oops. But...I was very confused when the monitoring company called me....I was at work...took me a minute to figure out what had happened. Since I can also raise and lower my garage door remotely (ain't technology grand?), I opened the door, let the cat out, and re-armed my system, all from my phone while at work.
Description of Work: Nothing. This is a DIY system. You place the order from their website, and install the product yourself. HOWEVER, if you have a problem, their customer service department is very friendly and helpful.

So far the experience has been great, but I will update this review as I go through the process. I ordered the system on 1 Sep 15; it shipped on 2 Sep 15 with an expected delivery date of 11 Sep15. I chose free shipping. I've been researching home alarm companies/systems for some time now through the internet, Angie's List, friend's with alarm systems and have called several companies for comparisons. Price is important to me, but so is quality of service and the product; I found SimpliSafe to be the best value at a low price. I chose them because: 1) They have very positive reviews and how well they handled BBB complaints; 2) no contract is required; 3) low monthly monitoring price; 4) Their website allowed me to pick exactly the components I needed. Coincidentally, SimpliSafe even sent me a 10% off coupon in the mail. SimpliSafe is a self install, do-it-yourself system, which is fine with me. I look forward to the system arriving and I will update this review as I go. Update 12 Sep 2015: The system arrived on 11 Sep as scheduled. I ordered a base station, 5 door/window sensors, 3 motion sensors, 1 glass break sensor, 1 panic button, 1 smoke alarm and an extra remote (they gave me the 1st remote free). Along with everything I ordered, I also received extra adhesive strips, small screws, window decals and a yard sign. As stated on their website, all components were ready to install and all sensors were preprogrammed onto the remote. One of the remotes is USB ready and serves as a method to change system settings; very easy to use. Plug it into a computer's USB port and the program automatically loads up. The program has installation instructions, activation instructions and all alarm settings. Once complete, insert the remote into the base station's USB port and the system automatically updates any changes. Even though the website indicates 15 minutes to install, it took me about 2 hours. In a perfect world 15 minutes is possible, but I'm too much of a perfectionist to do it in 15 minutes. All the components have adhesive strips for mounting, but include small screws. I have a some concerns about mounting with the adhesive. The extra siren is a little heavy so I used screws in addition to the adhesive. Also, because the keypad is constantly being touched, I used screws to mount it as well. The strips on the panic button were a little thin and it fell off the wall after a few minutes, so I used screws too. My primary concern is that over time some of the adhesives may give way and cause a sensor to fall off, causing a false alarm. I think once I'm sure about my sensor placements, I will go back and use screws for all. Overall the installation was easy. So now the system is installed and activated. I purchased the basic package at $14.95 per month monitoring and my city requires an alarm permit, so I also had to pay a $40.00 permit fee. The permit allows for multiple free false alarms. For the first 72 hours the system is in "practice mode" and alarm activations are not sent to the monitoring service. During this time the system can be used in "test mode" which lets you check that each sensor works and the motion sensor coverage areas. I like that when the system is in the "off mode", it still sounds a doorbell type chime when doors are opened. I've had the alarm in the "away" and "home" modes for 2 days now and no false alarms, so I'm feeling pretty good about the system and my motion sensor placements. My system goes live tomorrow, so the next step will be to evaluate the monitoring company. Update: 9 Oct 2015 I've had the system up and running for about a month now and I'm very happy with both the alarm system itself and the monitoring company. I've accidently triggered the alarm twice and the company called to verify within 45 seconds both times. Perfect in my opinion! When the alarm is in the home mode, opening a monitored door will trigger the system. I had to put a "stop" sign on the door the leads from the kitchen into the garage, because twice I walked into the garage and forgot the system was on. Absolutely my fault, but reassuring to know the system works well. Other than that, no false alarms or glitches.

They sent the equipment via the mail, with instructions. It is a self-installed system, and it was simple to install. They offer online account tracking which is nice, as well as the ability to monitor your system remotely. About a year or so after using the system I kept getting error messages that communication with the dispatch center was lost. SimpliSafe sent me out a different circuit board that was supposed to have stronger wi-fi capabilities (the one I had was from AT&T I believe, and they sent me a replacement which was through Verizon). It required that I replace a little circuit board inside the home base module. It was relatively easy, but I did have to pay close attention to get one of the connections right. This seems to have resolved the issue. I will say that overall the system has functioned well and SimpliSafe offers very good customer service. They don't have all of the features as the ADT system that I used to have, such as: 1) The buttons on the keypad are very small and 2) are not backlit, so you can't see in the dark. They do provide with the system a little remote/key fob that you can use to turn the system on and off, so there is a work around, and is a nice option, but also something else to keep up with. 3) The other thing that was nice about the ADT system was that there were lights on the motion detector that would light up when you passed in front of it, which told you that it was working. To test the SimpliSafe motion detector you have to push a button on top of the sensor, which is very inconvenient because the sensor is positioned high up on the wall for best function. The price continues to be $14.99/month for basic monitoring, which is fantastic!

SimpliSafe provided the system I requested. A few videos on line and one included was very clear and detailed to install the unit by myself. It came as a Do-It-Your-Self system. I am completely satisfied. After installing and testing, I had a 72 hour trial period prior to activating to a" response mode" in the event of an "Alert" signal. After the 72 hour period, I received a call from SimpliSafe to see if I had any further questions. I found their Support up to this point has been excellent. I have a monitoring plan just above the Basic Plan in that I get a Text message every time the system is activated or deactivated. I am pleased with that and feel better that I am totally aware of any activity taking place.

I must mention that SimpliSafe tech support is very professional, easy to talk to, and helpful. Overall the system works, but having had the experience of many different systems here are my observations. Mainly the hardware is disappointing. The entry sensors are huge and unsightly, about 2-3 times the size of that most systems I have experienced. In contrast the keypad has an extremely small digital display with very small touch keys which makes it easy to make mistakes when punching in codes. In general the hardware has the appearance of CHEAP construction. I was disappointed and felt as if I had been the recipient of the old "bait and switch" tactic regarding the monthly monitoring fee. Angie's list advertises $15 per month without contract, which in part is true, but covers only basic, bare bones monitoring. While going through the set-up process you are constantly being bombarded by screens to the plan options for monitoring. In order to move forward I felt I had to choose a plan, so I selected the basic, just to realize I couldn't access my system remotely, etc. like most other systems in today's market. Finally, they don't tell you the system doesn't work in conjunction with Apple products. I have a Mac, when I called I was informed they are aware of the issue and their technicians are working on the problem and hope to have a solution soon. (So why don't they tell you this in advance, even if in the small print.) I'll keep the system but if I knew then what I know now I would have made another choice. There are many other Alarm companies that provide you with free hardware and installation with a contract, usually 2-3 years. Weighing the quality of hardware, full monitoring services options, and no up-front charges I think it might be better to do a contract, even if the monthly rate is higher.

The whole deal was confusing. The merchant did not want to deal with my questions because I bought this on Angies list. When i got the system I tried to set it up and it did not work so I called them and was on the phone waiting for a real person for 20 minutes. They did a test and the base station did not work so I had to wait 2 days for them to send me another, Then I had to return the inferior one. When I received the new one it did not work because it had not been programmed before they shipped it to me. Then I had to call them again, To this day Im not sure that a test was done because what the instructions in the book and the countless emails and over the phone instructions are all DIFFERENT They are also big on trying to upgrade you and referring a friend, I get at lease 2 emails a day from them and it is so CONFUSING I HAVE INSTALLED OTHERS WITH NO PROBLEM I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THIS SYSTEM BUT LOOKS LIKE I AM STUCK WITH IT

Overall, Simplisafe was wonderful. Their products installed easily and were easy to activate. My one complaint is if you have questions, you can be waiting on the phone for a long time. In addition, the music while you wait is annoying. Once you get to a person, he or she is helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. The salesperson is also very patient in explaining the dynamics of the system. In addition, Simplisafe offers a 60-day money-back guarantee. We returned some extra components and were refunded promptly. The monitoring center is very prompt and courteous--no complaints where it really counts.

I'm writing this review almost a year and a half from our initial purchase and self-installation. The self-installation and setup was very straightforward. Every piece comes with an adhesive strip to secure the sensor to its location; all pieces communicate wirelessly with the base station. Although the adhesive strips do work very well, I would recommend also using the provided screws to secure the pieces even further. We did have a motion sensor fall off the wall 6 months after it was installed without screws. The sensor was disabled at the time, but I'm sure had it been enabled the fall would have resulted in a false alarm. We had some minor connectivity issues initially with the cellular connection for the base station. It would work for a week and then suddenly lose connection ("no link to dispatcher" alert). Similar issues were reported on their support website and we followed the process for resetting the base station (unplug, remove batteries). We did this a few times and have not had any of these connection issues over the last year. A major benefit of this system is that you can easily buy add-on sensors and pair them to your system. We've added some water sensors, a smoke detector, and additional keypad, and a separate siren. I would definitely recommend the added siren - it is much louder than then one in the base station. It also will chirp when the keypads are prompting for the passcode. I have replaced the AA batteries once in the keypads, and once for the siren. All other sensors still are operating on their original batteries after 1.5 yrs. We are paying $19.99/month for the monitoring plan that comes with the sms/e-mail alerts. The basic plan starts at $14.99/month. We got a 15% discount on our homeowners insurance for having the system installed (you can download/print an alarm certificate from the Simplisafe website). I will also note that you do not *need* to purchase monitoring. You can install the system and just have the alarm sound without notifying the police. To remove a constant message that you don't have a link to the dispatcher, you can call Simplisafe and they will remove it from your account upon request. Very happy with this system - for the price paid and the protection it offers it can't be beat.

It has been a very good system. We have had a few small issues, getting delayed signals, but since has been fixed. And was fixed within a day. It is a very good system and is very reasonably priced. The nice thing about this is that it is wireless, so people can cut wires to cut the power to your alarm system.

This company is a big scam. I had just moved in to a new home in a new neighborhood so security was important for me so I could feel relaxed and secure moving into a new home. This security system seemed like a great price so I bought the package. Well, all it ever did was have continuous false alarms scaring me half to death! I would jump out of bed with my baseball bat ready to approach an intruder and nothing but a false alarm. The police were contacted several other times when I was not at home and nothing was going on except a false alarm again! Finally the police sent me a letter saying that if I had any more false alarms that I would be charged $50 each time they had to come out. I was so mad with this company and their faulty equipment that I called another provider "Frontpoint" and I have never felt so good about switching to this company because they are a thousand times better. I have not had any false alarms and according to research their product is actually made by GE and reliable unlike simplisafe who makes their own equipment which is probably why it sucks. If you already know you want a security system then sign on for a year with Frontpoint and you'll be glad you did!

No complaints at all. One small piece was missing, but we contacted them and they shipped it out promptly the next day free of charge. I would recommend screwing in the security sensors and not using the double sided tape. The tape can sometimes cause it to fall off.
Description of Work: Provided a Security System by mail that is fully functional, easy to install and the monthly fee is very reasonable.

Upon receiving all of the equipment, installation instructions, and support from SimpliSafe, I was able to install the system quickly and easily. There is no contract and their monthly rate is fair. I would highly recommend this system to anyone shopping for a home security system. You can customize the components to meet your needs. And the best part is that there are no wires to run so you can place the sensors anywhere you need them. It has a battery back-up system in case you lose electricity. I was skeptical of how well it would work but I was extremely please at their response time when my alarm was tripped. It works perfectly. They get an A+ rating from me!

Self-install easy. Links to base unti tested and brought on-line. Cost $19.99/month. Much easier and cheaper than ADT. ADT didn't upgrade my equipment for over 10 years. They never offered to upgrade they just kept raining the price. TO over $50/month. I installed Simplisafe and cancelled ADT. Then ADT offered to partially upgrade my equipment. Needless to say I refused.
Description of Work: Provided sensors for windows, doors, motion, fire alarm. All necessary hardware and instructions were included. Easy self-install. took less than 1/2 day.
