Paul Atkins and his team did an excellent job and I would like to hire them again for an additional job. I have a been a homeowner since 2000, and this was one of the best experiences I have had. Here's why: 1. Paul responded to my phone call and met with me to review the project. 2. He provided a quote when he promised to do so. 3. We coordinated a start date far into the future. I have a lot of business travel, so this scheduling was important. 4. He started within the time range we had agreed 5. His crew did a great job painting - this project was very tedious given the location of the seams and where the painting needed to be completed. 6. Also, they did high-quality carpentry work (an essential need for maintaining 120 year old wooden homes) 7. He and his crew were professional and communicated very well.
Description of Work: Paul Atkins and his crew worked for 2.5 days on an all-wooden exterior triple decker located in Cambridge, MA. They carefully re-caulked and repainted all of the clapboard, molding, and fascia seams that had naturally opened up after 4 years of seasonal expansion and contraction. They also removed some rotten porch spindles and replaced with new ones.

I could not have been happier; I interviewed and received 6 proposals to paint my house over a years? time. When I decided on Paul I never looked back, he and his crew showed up on time and completed the work and Paul has kept in touch to make sure that I am happy with the work. My house sits on a very busy walking path into the Arnold Arboretum; there were many conversations on the colors prior to painting and during. The entire neighborhood is impressed with the results!
Description of Work: Paul Adkins did a tremendous job at painting my 3 story house; his carpenter did some repairs to window sill and my porch before painting. The house was scraped, primed and painted and he assisted me with the color combinations. All in all we went with 1 base color, 1 trim color and 2 additional colors for the detail on my faux Victorian.

Paul Adkins from this company responded immediately to my inquiry and was a pleasure to work with. He was responsive by email and over the phone, thorough in the estimate and proactively informative with details such as scheduling. He was personable as well as professional and we would certainly use this company for a future job. It is a smaller company; on the plus side it means you are working directly with the people who are doing the work; the difficulty for us is that the carpentry aspect, which would have been a subcontractor, was substantial and we went with a company that provided both services. This is not a complaint in any way, there is a lot to be said for smaller companies. We would recommend this company for anyone looking for professional painting work.

The crew consisted of 3 men, including Paul Adkins, one of the owners. They were professional, hard working and produced an excellent finished product. They delivered everything, as agreed, in a timely manner, The house has never looked this good. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: The exterior of our C.E. Colonial was scraped, sanded. and vaccumed. Mildew was removed with a mildew solution. Both the exterior (clapboards) and portions of the roof received this treatment. The roof treatment was done because Paul did not want to leave the mildew contrasting with the newly stained house. All cracks were caulked with silicone. An oil based primer, tinted with the same color staint that was used, was applied to the entire exterior. The finishing coats consisted of two coats of stain, applied with a paint sprayer. The same treatment was applied to the shutters. They made some minor repairs, including replacing an old attic window.

We were very impressed with Paul and his crew. From the first call to the follow-up email to make sure we were happy with the work he did, he was very professional, straight-forward, easy to talk to, and very willing to help us with additional issues that came up (helping us clear out our gutters before a big storm, and fixing an exterior door that wouldn't shut properly). It was a pleasure working with him and we won't hesitate to call him for our next painting job.

Paul Adkins and his crews provided a great service. They are well-trained, hard-working and detail-oriented. The crews show up every early morning, worked diligently through out the day, and cleaned up at the end. The work was completed, as promised, in two weeks. The color Paul suggested ends up matching our slate roof perfectly. His crews also washed up our dirty roof and front brick wall nicely. We are very happy with the end result and will definitely hire them for future home improvement.

Paul and his crew did a fabulous job! They were meticulous in the prep work and the painting. And also great with clean up at the end of each day. They were all very courteous and hard-working. The work was completed, as promised, in a week. The price was very reasonable (and I got estimates from several companies) and they stuck to the quote provided. They also stand by their work with a solid guarantee. We are very happy with the end result and would recommend them without reservation.

The company was great to work with. They came and did the work on time and as promised. They worked with us in determining the best color scheme and used top quality material. The interior ceilings that they painted required calcimine paint, which is notorious for pealing. When we had an issue with some pealing after the work was completed, Olde England made the repairs, as promised, with no questions asked. Based on my experience I would recommend them without reservation.

I had a great experience working with Paul Adkins from start to finish. I received the estimate within a week of meeting with him initially. His estimate gave me an hourly rate for carpentry work and a flat fee for the painting job. He told me he had one other project lined up before mine, after the current project he needed to complete. The timing of his start date matched what he told me, and he communicated with me during the interim to confirm his timeline. He has a team of two other men, one of whom did the carpentry work as well. The team was very respectful and considerate of the comings and goings of our household. They cleaned up each day and the work was done within two weeks (which includes two rain days). I waited to speak with Paul a little upon two occasions in the morning, but the minor lateness was ultimately not consequential. The quality of work done is very good. The prep work seemed thorough. The painted lines were sharp, and where there was one spot on the porch and one painted line I asked about, Paul redid it without fuss. Paul was very helpful and patient in the selection of paint colors, which made for an enjoyable process and I feel happy with the color results. He is extremely easy going and warm spirited as well as professional, which is a great combination.

I wanted to hire him, but he was so booked up. I didn't get my check in on time. I think Paul the owner is a very professional person. He knows his painting. It's very easy to communicate with him. He looks at your house and points out what needs to be done. He gives good advice. I have heard from another contractor that he is great. His price was very good. He didn't miss a thing. He was right on time. I am an architect and I was very impressed with his opinions. I highly recommend him. I would love to hire him.

We are very pleased. This was a wonderful experience throughout. I had an idea of the colors I wanted, and Paul gave me large swathes of paint on the house to test the colors . He made welcome suggestions and guided us through the process. He knew much better than I exactly where the different colors should go on the trim. The whole house looks very different and much improved. He gave it more character. We have dealt with many painting contractors in New York, Chicago, Spokane, WA and Cambridge over the past 40 years, and Paul is the most reliable and talented we have found. We are very pleased to have met him, thanks to Angie's list, and we recommend him, and his foreman, Bruno, highly.
Description of Work: Paul Atkins, and his dedicated crew worked for two and a half weeks here, in Jamaica Plain, on our 110 year-old Edwardian . They did a wonderful, careful and thorough job. . They worked steadily, and quietly, even through a weekend, when rain threatened (and later did) cause a delay. They sanded all the loose paint, and primed all the bare wood. This included the windows, which are old and curved, and very heavy with some broken cords. Then they painted the overhang and fascia boards. They painted the siding and all the woodwork and trim, including the wood between the storm and the interior windows. Every thing received two coats of paint. They also painted the wrought iron screen door and the railings. The team always were careful about spreading drop cloths, and protecting our environment. They cleaned up each evening before leaving and at the end of the job they did a super cleaning. Paul subcontracted a carpenter for us who did some excellent wood gutter replacement and repair at a very reasonable price. He also was very fast and timely.

I contacted several painting contractors including Olde England Painting. Paul Adkins came out to our house and met with my wife and I and walked around the entire house with us to review the job. Within 2 days Paul gave us a detailed quote on the work they would perform. Original estimate was $8,950 less the 5% Angies List discount. Apart from the great reviews on Angie's list, I also called 3 separate references provided by Paul. All gave Olde England Painting glowing reviews and said they would use them again. This made me feel confident in my decision to choose them to paint our house. Paul and I agreed that they would start in August but I had to re-schedule until September because we wanted to replace our front entry door prior to painting the house. Paul was very accommodating and said he would contact me again in early September to confirm the actual start date. He contacted me as promised and he and his crew started the job in early September. They prepped the house by caulking all the joints and cracks in the clapboards and re-nailing a number of loose clapboards on the rear of the house. They also scraped and sanded loose paint on some of the trim. They then primed the entire house and applied 2 coats of finish to the body and trim. They painted the detached shed which was never included in the original quote and on the last day Paul called me at work to ask if I wanted the foundation painted a complementing color (again he included this in his original price and did not charge me extra). When I came home from work that day I was floored. The house looked better than it did on the day we bought it. I walked around the entire house looking for the smallest imperfection and could not find one. I still come home from work and stare at the house. That's how pleased am with it. Not only are Paul and his crew great people, they were meticulous in every detail. They were hard working, quiet, polite and neat. The job they did far exceeded my expectations and their price was very competitive. I truly believe that you get what you pay for. I will be recommending them to all of my friends and family who need interior or exterior painting done on their house
Description of Work: Repainted 2 1/2 story 10 year Old Colonial. Caulked all joints. Scraped and sanded loose and peeling paint. Primed entire house. 2 coats of finish on body of house as well as trim. Painted detached shed as well. Painted Garage Doors, gutters and concrete foundation

Paul promptly responded to my inquiry, inspected my property, provided an estimate for the scope of the work when I contacted him in May. He also responded quickly to any additional questions I had regarding how the work would be performed or what was included in the quote, revised the quote once I informed him I was an Angie's List member, and provided references (all very positive) for similar work done. We loosely scheduled the work for the end of July based on other jobs that were already booked. In the middle of the month I reached out to Paul and he told me that barring any unforeseen weather they would start on the 26th. Paul and his crew arrived on the 26th as promised and worked 9 straight days and finished the work on August 3rd. I was very pleased with their work ethic and professionalism. In particular, I was pleased with how diligent they were in preparing the painting surfaces, caulking and filling any and all gaps in the exterior woodwork of the house, repairing damaged stucco, and replacing a few rotted shingles. When they finally got to painting, they followed our color instructions and were very detailed oriented in terms of the trim, windows, and other border surfaces. Also, Paul was extremely accommodating in terms of any requests presented to them (I had some interior windows that required staining and was given a very reasonable price to have it done). All in all, and most importantly, the house looks great. I feel very comfortable and confident that if there is anything I need to follow-up with Paul about, it will get done promptly.

Olde England Painting was amazing every step of the way. Paul Adkins promptly responded to our request for an estimate and visited our property within the week. He emailed an estimate that evening and came in with a reasonabble quote that was in the middle of several other bids. I was very impressed given the rave reviews on Angie's List. He could have easily chargd more. Olde England Painting was compliant with new lead paint regulations -- it was a big concern for one of the condo owners with small children. Throughout the process, Paul and his crew were prompt, professional, and hard-working. We noticed it and so did our neighbors. Paul was very patient with our indecisiveness over colors and helped us to select three distinct colors for our home. He paid great attention to detail and trim and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. He turned our back decks into new lively spaces with beautiful Australian timber oil. Paul was always accessible by phone or email and incredibly patient with our many requests. He also went above and beyond to help resolve any concerns. When there was a misunderstanding with an item on the bill, he didn't hesitate to take the item off so we didn't feel confused. I have rarely encountered such a great experience and would highly recommend Olde England Painting for any job you may have.

Paul was responsive from start to finish- pleasant, prompt, thorough- the only thing was a slight delay in our initial start time by a few weeks due to a LOT of rain last Spring; job went quickly, clean up was good (though we cleaned up on our own as well by renting a hepa vacuum and shop vac) It is a year later and the house still looks good- they did not miss a spot or damage anything except for an azalea bush that was probably already dying. Other estimates ranged from 8000-18,000 for the same job.
Description of Work: Exterior of our 1926 cedar shingled house was painted. Scraped, prepared and painted cedar siding on house, painted the trim around windows (and repaired the glaze in some windows where it was cracked- we have the original double hungs still up), painted doors, iron handrailing up to front door, bulkhead, separate one car garage also painted. Painted (and repaired/replaced a section of) wooden gutters and downspouts.

Our experience with Paul and his crew was excellent. Paul was very accommodating and easy to work with. He came out to give us an estimate on what we wanted done and got it emailed to us promptly. After receiving the estimate I decided to add a few things to the job so Paul came back out and went over all the details with me and promptly emailed a revised estimate. I was also given an extensive list of references to contact. I contacted 4 and actually visited 1 and I got nothing but positive feedback from everyone I spoke to. We had scheduled the work for the end of April but Paul contacted me at the end of March and bumped up our job due to delay in the start time for another customer?s job. He said they would be out to start April 7th. Paul and his crew showed up as promised on April 7th and were fantastic. They worked from 8:30-5:30 (or later) every night. They put drop clothes all around the house to minimize the debris from the scraping and sanding and cleaned up every night when they were done. All tools, ladders and drop clothes were removed nightly so as to not leave the house looking like a construction zone. Paul was very helpful with suggestions on color selections. We actually went with the trim color he selected over the 2 we had chosen because, as Paul pointed out, the 2 we chose actually clashed with the windows (something we never thought of). He put up all the sample colors for us to view right up on the house which was very helpful. During the job Paul found that one of the porch columns was too rotted to repair and needed to be replaced. He told me ahead of time what needed to be done and how much it would cost. The house looks fabulous!! The entire project from start to finish lasted only 8 days. In addition to painting the house and shed they also painted the bulkhead, mailbox, water faucet, oil connection, flag pole bracket, and hanging plant brackets. The final invoice was exactly as Paul had promised on his estimate. I have already told Paul to add me to his reference list!!!
Description of Work: Scraped, sanded, caulked, primed, and painted the entire 3 level single family house and 6’ X 8’ shed. Some minor carpentry to replace some rotted shingles, porch decking boards, window sills, and porch columns.

Paul and his men were punctual, professional and hard working. They were the best painters we've ever hired. They took pride in their work and the quality of the job shows. They painted our house as if it were their own.
Description of Work: Our two-family house needed to be painted because it was cracking and peeling after a previous paint job. I called Olde England Painting for an estimate after reading their ratings on Angies List and because of their proximity to our house. Paul came out within a few days and gave us an estimate for the job. They came on July 8th and finished on July 14th. For prep work they scraped, sanded and replaced shingles where needed. They covered all the shrubs and walkways. They repaired a porch railing and made it look better than new. Paul discussed the colors of the paint/stain with us. They did everything we requested and the house looks great.

We have been in our house for a long time - have had 4 full exterior paint jobs - plus some touch-up work and this job was the best by far. It was an extremely professional and meticulous job. Paul was on the job every day, which I feel makes a big difference. Their prep work was very extensive - everything was scraped and power sanded so well that the finish coat is really gorgeous. Paul suggested using an accent color - something we were always reluctant to do - he ultimately chose the color - which really suits the house and looks great! This group really knows their stuff - the whole job was very organized and professional - also surprisingly fast - they worked long days, Saturdays included. We have a lot of large rhododendrins in front of our house and were very insistent that they be protected - Paul and his crew really took a lot of care to make sure that nothing got damaged - They also cleaned up extensively every day They are very "user-friendly" and make a genuine effort to satisfy the customer. We had several other estimates for the job - most of which were cheaper, but this group was a lot of bang for the buck. Another nice thing was that since they were able to do carpentry repairs and window pane replacements at reasonable prices - it was really"one-stop shopping' - Highly recommended!
Description of Work: Exterior painting of a 100 year old shingle victorian house plus deck. Full primer, 2 coats of paint and deck stain. All windows were caulked, puttied and painted. Storm windows were removed and cleaned on both sides. Outside of windows were washed. Broken window panes were replaced - We also needed a fair amount of shingle replacement and repairs to our deck - this was done by an excellent carpenter who magically appeared and reappeared whenever more damaged was discovered.

The entire experience was terrific, from color selection to final coat of paint. Paul (one of the owners) was on site each and every day and fully participated in the painting of the house. Not only did the crew do a thorough prep job, they finished with two top coats; something that is not a given with all paint companies. The work was done efficiently and carefully, with clean-ups at at the end of each work day. The final surprise came when Paul replaced a broken pane of glass and polished the house numbers before re-hanging; two things we didn't ask for but were thrilled to have done. I would recommend them without reservation and will definitely call them in the future. Thanks to Paul and his crew, my house went from blah and boring to beautiful.
