Old England Painting

I cannot say enough good things about this company and Gavin. Gavin and his crew are amazing. They weren't the lowest estimate but they were worth every penny (and more) for the fantastic job they did. From the first meeting with Gavin until the end of the job he was professional and was great to collaborate on with colors (I'm still in awe of the shutter/fence color he found for us--Mink--it couldn't be more perfect).

I was pleased with the quality, finished ahead of schedule, added some minor additional items during the job without increasing the price. Responsive to phone calls, arrived on schedule for initial estimate.

I received an estimate over the phone after they surveyed my house, and they were in the middle of the three painters I called; however, the lowest bid was for only a single coat of paint. So I decided to go with Olde England. The team of 4-5 guys came out on time and finished in a timely manner, even covering areas of my house that were not in the original contract. They did an excellent job and I would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

It was excellent. Everything went well. Everything that I asked them to do they did and they were also very quick. They gave me an estimate and it was exactly what they charged me.

Fixing some screens, replacing some wood that was rotted prior to painting, and some shingles. They were very responsive to my request for an estimate. They showed up on the day they said they would. The job has progress much more quickly for a job of this prospective. They are very professional and courteous. Clean up everyday behind themselves.

The owners of Olde English Painting met with us personally to see the house and advise on how the work should be completed. They provided an estimate and covered everything in detail. We discussed colors and the plan to get the work completed. Gavin and Paul are true professionals and artists. They have a great manner and of all the painters that came to estimate the job we knew they were right for us. The job started exactly on time. Paul headed the crew that did the painting and all were extremely talented. They helped us pick colors and steered us towards a beautiful combination. We wanted something creative and dramatic. The house had been a combination of purples we were not happy with. We ended up going with two shades of red with blue and pale yellow accents. It's looks amazing. I had made some other choices that probably would not have looked as good and Paul gently moved me away from my own mistakes. In the end, the job looks amazing, it was done exactly on time and to budget. The crew worked hard and late and cleaned up everyday. Paul oversaw everything in a calm manner and everybody was really nice. Every question we had was answered and dealt with. There was never one bit of tension. I can't recommend them enough. If you have a Victorian with detail, these are the folks to hire. They really know what they are doing, do it well and with artistry.

Very professional, thoughtful and diligent. Gavin and Paul give you their expert advice on color combinations which is very helpful when undecided on colors. They personally work with their crew and show up on time and clean up after every day of work. Their commitment to quality and their pride in their work shows in the final product. I would recommend them without a doubt. But don't take my word for it, ask them to give you their (long) list of references. They have painted the exteriors of what seems to be every other house in Newton. We also used them for a separate interior painting job and were equally satisfied.

They did an excellent job. I would highly recommend. I thought their price fair.

Excellent work that far exceeded expectations. Arrived promptly, worked quickly and immaculate clean-up. Highest quality result. Best painting of the house that we ever have had (3 prior paintings). Full value for the price. Olde England fully candid about all phases of the work. Responded promptly to all issues as they arose.

Made appointment to come by and give estimate, never showed up, never called back.

Called to obtain an estimate for painting. Gavin was prompt for the appointment. He stated that the painting job would be extensive and labor intensive. He stated he could do four jobs in the time this one job would take. Thus he did not give an estimate and recommended a younger company who would be interested in such a job. He had seen this company working in Newton. My impression was that he is honest though brusque.

They did a superb job. He was happy to touch up other things. They did an excellent job. I felt the price was fair. They are very high end quality painters.

The prep work was very difficult because it was so much work. They did a great job on it though. I was impressed with the work and I was pleased with the service. They were reasonable priced and answered all of our questions.

They showed up on time and were very friendly. They seemed to know their stuff. The house is very large. It is a three family home and it was a lot of work. I thought that their price was very high.

They painted the exterior last fall and are now doing the interior painting. What attracted us to this company was that they had done work for a neighbor of ours. He came over relatively quickly and gave no high-pressure sales tactics like other contractors. They gave us a sheet of the most recent years' houses they painted so we could drive by and see the job they'd done (at least 50 addresses). It also showed houses they'd done years ago so we could see how the work would last. The houses looked great, so we hired them. We hired them to do just the front at first. The preparation was so intensive that we knew we should have them finish the whole house. They might not be the least expensive (they also are not the most expensive out of the bids we got), but the price is definitely worth it because it looks good up close and you know its going to last because of the preparation they do. They also don't ask for any money up front. They were punctual, polite, and cleaned up each day.

They returned our call in good time, and if we were painting the outside of our house, they would have been ideal. I gave them an A because they were responsive, but I can't give more information because we never got further than a phone call.

Gavin and his crew were great to work with. They were neat, efficient and friendly. They finished the job in under 4 days. I am very happy with the results. Although there was some delay in getting the written estimate (Gavin doesn't fill it out on site as some others do), I found the price to be competitive and was very happy that they were willing to hand-sand. Other companies had asked me to get a lead test so they could use their power sanders. I was most impressed with their willingness to ask me whenever they had a question, rather than just making assumptions and continuing on.

Paul Adkins & Gavin Curd were great to work with for repainting the exterior of our home. They we punctual, professional and responsive to our questions and phone calls. We feel fortunate to have hired Olde England Painting for this project, and plan on hiring them again for interior painting. We obtained three estimates for our exterior painting project, and Olde England was the middle ground in terms of cost. The price was very reasonable and Paul & Gavin provided a 5% Angie's List discount without our asking. We looked at several homes that Olde England painted before hiring them, and they were the finest looking homes we saw. Paul did a great job coordinating our project. He accommodated our requested time frame, helped us pick paint colors, coordinated minor carpentry work as well as window and shutter hardware replacement, and responded promptly to our calls after the work was finished to complete 'touch ups'. We highly recommend Olde England Painting!

Gavin and his crew did an outstanding job...the best painters we've ever used by far. They were helpful in recommending new colors and making minor repairs. They did high quality and extremely thorough work. Only concerns involved minor damage to window wiring related to house's alarm system. We incurred additional repair cost ($200) that might have been avoided with more care. Spring 2013 update: When we were sold the paint job Gavin said it would be good for 10 years. In reality, it was good for 5-6. I've done several touchups on my own where paint peeled prematurely. This season we will be repainting. Some areas of the house still look alright, others have pee;ed to bare wood. It would have been nice for this paint job to have lasted longer.

SPOKE TO A PERSON AT THE LISTED PHONE NUMBER WHO TOLD ME THAT GAVIN WOULD CALL ME BACK REGARDING MY REQUEST. HE NEVER CALLED BACK.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE HAVE HAD SERVICE THIS GREAT. THEY DID A WONDERFUL JOB, AND THEY WERE ON TOP OF THE JOB. HE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND.

GAVIN WAS PROMPT AT RETURNING MY CALLS, PROFESSIONAL, AND SHOWED UP EXACTLY ON TIME FOR AN ESTIMATE. A DETAILED WRITTEN ESTIMATE WAS PROVIDED WHEN PROMISED. HOWEVER THE PRICE WAS NEARLY 3X HIGHER THAN OTHER ESTIMATES I'M SURE THEY WOULD DO GREAT WORK AND I WOULD CONSIDER USING THEM FOR OTHER JOBS.

GAVIN CURD WAS VERY POLITE AND VERY PROFESSIONAL AND I PERSONALLY WOULD USE HIM FOR ANY WORK THAT I WOULD HAVE DONE.

EXCELLENT ALL AROUND. HELPFUL WITH COLOR SELECTION. PLEASANT TO WORK WITH, GOOD CLEANUP. JOB ALSO INCLUDED REGLAZING AND PAINTING OUTSIDE OF WINDOWS. WASHED STORMS FOR SMALL EXTRA FEE ($100). BEAUTIFUL AND THOROUGH PAINT JOB. A LITTLE CONFUSION ABOUT EXACTLY WHEN THEY WERE STARTING, BUT NOT A BIG DEAL.

TOOK A FEW DAYS TO GET A RETURNED CALL, BUT WAS INCREDIBLY NICE, AND ON TIME WHEN HE SHOWED FOR THE QUOTE. THEY WERE LIKELY MY #2 CHOICE (OUT OF 7 QUOTES). HE WAS ALSO THE ONE WHO TOLD ME ABOUT THIS SITE! :)) THE QUOTE WAS FOR THE EXTERIOR OF A 130 YEAR OLD VICTORIAN HOME, AND THEIR QUOTE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE QUOTE RANGE.
