I didn’t like them. Their cost is very competitive, but the main issue is that it took over a month to get the job done because I think they do other jobs at the same time. They would wound up in an hour or two hours one day and they will not come out for a couple of days and they’ll come back for another couple of hours or so, and that was a big problem with them.
Description of Work: I used Jay Macdonald Mechanical to replace a boiler and install an air conditioner.

very well. Punctual, prompt, easy to schedule.
Description of Work: He was sent out by my home warranty company to examine a malfunctioning gas boiler. His assessment was that the boiler was at the end of its useful life, which was quite obvious from its condition. He was helpful and straightforward in detailing my options; I am still considering how to proceed, but will certainly consider him to do the work. Price is price charged by home warranty company for a service call.

At the beginning, there were some initial communications issues, but those were resolved. It was one of the hottest periods in the area in a long time, and my issue was being masked by false starts and stops. On the first visit, Jay went into the attic to check the unit and there were no obvious signs of a problem, so we thought that the unit needed a maintenance cleaning. Once this was complete, the A/C would work for a bit - a day, a few hours, and then would stop working again. Throughout this time, attempts were made to fix the unit that were not successful. In the end, Jay returned back out to my unit 5 or 6 times over 2 1/2 weeks before resolution. It was finally determined that the control plate had fried - he showed it to me at the end and it literally looked burned. Once that part was ordered, it was in and installed in a matter of days. It is somewhat tough to rate because throughout process, we had to be cognizant of the requirements of the homeowner's warranty. So everything that Jay did to fix the A/C unit had to meet strict guidelines and receive approval. The unit is approximately 14 years old, so I anticipate that it will not last all that much longer. But being as its insured at full replacement, I'm sure that is why we went the route of new control panel rather than new unit. This is a reflection on the warranty company and not on Jay. I will continue to work with Jay to have my furnace, air conditioning unit and hot water heater serviced.
Description of Work: I started to have air conditioning problems at the end of June, 2010. I own a homeowner's warranty and they referred the issue to Jay. In the end, the control panel on the furnace had burnt out - literally. Once this panel was replaced, the A/C started to function again as expected.

This is the worst experience I've had with a plumber, and it continues five months later. It took over five days to install the system because the worker got drunk and fell off a wall one night so didn't show, and when he was doing the job, moved very slowly and smelled like alcohol. (Jay said he would fire him the next day, but he was back the following weekend.) The worker put the water heater in the wrong location, cut through the phone line because they didn't check the outside wall before drilling, and I was without heat for several nights in November/December. After we told him about all the mishaps, Jay yelled at me over the phone, though he later apologized for his angry call. For about a month now, the water heater has been leaking. Another plumber discovered that two pieces had been installed in the wrong places and needed to be switched. It is still leaking! Jay or one of his men have had to come back five times since the installation and still have to come back.
Description of Work: Jay and his men removed an oil boiler and installed a gas furnace and water heater.

I have a contract with my home warranty company covering appliances and equipment in a condo I purchased. I contacted them regarding a problem with my A/C. They referred the service call to Jay Macdonald Mechanical who was supposed to contact me to schedule an appointment within four hours of my conversation with my home warranty company. Macdonald never called. I contacted them after a few days and arranged an appointment. They were supposed to come between 8:00 AM-noon, but never showed nor did they call. I called them at 1:20 PM. The dispatcher told me the technician was now on his way but would be a "good hour" because of the distance. (He stated that the technician's phone got wet the day before so he could not call me.) The technician never showed nor did dispatch ever call to explain or apologize. I feel the dispatcher was not truthful with me and irresponsible in never contacting me. I wasted a whole day with no positive results. I have requested a different contractor from m
