It was easy to make appointments, and the nurse saw me within a 10-minute wait. The nurses I have met so far have all been pleasant, patient and empathetic. My interactions with the receptionists, however, have been hit-or-miss. The receptionists are usually just minding their own business, and do not care much about the patients. They are certainly not the best receptionists I have come across, but they do not bother so much to drive me away from GMA. I care more about the doctors and nurses who are taking care of my medical needs. The location of GMA is very convenient. it is just a block away from the Tufts Medical Center orange line stop, and a short walk from Downtown Crossing. On a less positive note, the office environment needs some updating. I have been to other practices with better facilities. Overall, GMA will continue to be my primary care, and I will return for future appointments.
Description of Work: General Medical Associates is my primary care, and I have been going there since the summer of 2011. My last visit was to see a nurse practitioner for immunization shots required by my school.

GMA has been my gate-keeper providers in the Tufts Medical Center for over 5 years. During that time I have seen several doctors. The doctors provide what you would expect - impersonal doctor mill medicine. However, the bureaucratic environment shows little if any awareness that patients are people. We have had our doctors changed without notification. We have wound up paying out-of-plan charges when the GMA doctor who originally okayed a visit elsewhere left GMA and we were not notified. The people at the GMA's front desk take a universally dismissive attitude towards patients. The last time I went there, I was sufficiently offended that I cancelled the appointment on the spot and arranged to see my doctor in New York instead. As far as I'm concerned, no matter how busy you are, the patient deserves "How are you feeling this morning, Mrs Jones?" I wrote a letter to the doctor in question apologizing for cancelling and pointing out the problem at the front desk. Not even a pro-forma response. I figure that tells me all I need to know about where the patient stands in the GMA system
Description of Work: GMA is (on paper) my primary care physician. I attempted to arrange for a sonogram of what turned out to be an operable lipoma. This scan was recommended by the physician I have seen for over a decade and trust. The GMA physician (Paul Duncan) recommended against the scan at that time. When I felt the lump might be acting up I scheduled a repeat visit, but this was not to be - see below.

The doctor I see there is very good. He is smart and intelligent. He knows a lot of medicine. He listens to the patient. He refers me to other doctors when he thinks it is required. He is available anytime I want to see him. I am a lawyer. Unfortunately he is leaving this practice. The office environment is fine. They are very efficient. His bedside manner is good. I like him and we have a good rapport. They cannot cure what cannot be cured but their treatment is fine. I don?t pay much because I am on Medicare. I will be calling him next week and he is going to get me a replacement primary care physician. I am proud to recommend him and the practice. I will continue to use this practice in the future.
