The computer powered right up for the technician. He attempted to download updates but kept getting error messages, that pretty much took 30 minutes and then he told me my computer was too old to try to fix it.

The service provider was pleasant, arrived when he said he would after he called to say he was running late, but admitted he was exhausted. I am not sure that he was really familiar with a power book because he seemed to take a long time to locate information and then to attempt to complete tasks. I think he honestly tried but was just too tired to work efficiently. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and paid for extra time. Perhaps he would better serve a PC.
Description of Work: The expectation was that the service person would clean up my computer, check for and install updated software, help with backing up my iphone and ipad. Not much of this was completed and he worked 2 extra hours attempting to provide some service. I will admit that my Mac computer is an older model and some things were not possible.

The person came late but was trying very hard to be useful. He carried out several diagnostics, removing several viruses along the way. However he had not been informed that the service was part of a coupon promotion - company communication did not seem to have closed the loop. It was a tricky problem; at the end of the hour some of my issues were not totally resolved but working with him gave me directions to find a solution after his visit. So this was a useful service even though it left me with some more work afterwards but my issues were eventually solved.
Description of Work: The service was offered as a coupon for one hour of computer repair. My issue was related to freezing laptop after having rebooted the system and difficulties related to the outlook archives transfer and re-installation. In particular, a former anti-virus program would not be deleted and was interfering with the start-up process and preventing important files to boot.

Everything went smoothly from start to finish...easy to set an appointment that work to my schedule and all my requests were taken care of.
Description of Work: I had a new laptop, printer and router. In addition I had just switched from Comcast to Verizon for my internet and cable services. He installed a security system on my computer. I paid for an extra hour so he could clean up and get rid of the old mail on my hard drive on my computer; however he just explained it to me instead of completing the service because we ran out of time. I was hoping that he could have completed the clean-up for me but he did do a good job installing the security system.

Great company to work with.
Description of Work: I called to schedule an appointment and was offered an appointment for the next day. The tech called ahead and arrived on time. Not only did the tech resolves the issues I was having, but offered other very helpful advice. One of the many things I really like about this company over others I used, is that the tech is very knowledgable about all aspects of computers. Other companies only seem to know how to run maintenance software and watch while the computer defrags and the clock ticks!

Called for an appt. and was scheduled for the 19th betweem 10 a.m. and noon. When no one arrived by 12:45 p.m., I called the company and was told that there had apparently been an internal scheduling problem and would I like to make another appointment. Because of the fact that I wasted much of that day waiting for a tech that did not know he was scheduled for a service appointment, the rating automatically dropped to B. I rescheduled for the 21st and this time was not disappointed. The tech was on time, was professional, knowledgable, patient and cleaned up the problems I was having with my laptop, including finding a couple of viruses. He then went on to check my husband's desk top, which had not been running the way it should. Turns out that computer was in the process of dying and Mike H. (the tech) got us a good price on a new one and said when it came in he would call and come back and set it up. He was here for 2.5 hours the first day. He called and returned on the 26th to set up the new desk top and transfer files, etc. He was here for 2.15 hours on this day. We were charged $90 per hour, which was the Angie's List fee schedule. The Geek Choice fee schedule was more. When I bought the "Big Deal", I wasn't sure I would have enough computer work to fill in an hour. How wrong I was! I was very pleased with Mike - he explained everything that he was doing as he went along and answered all the questions that my husband and I asked. He did a great job - an A rating for him.

First, of all, the company representative himself was very accommodating and friendly. I had to change the appointment time twice, and they were very understanding. The technician was a dream!! He came from working another job, but he didn't waste any time or seem tired or unwilling to go full steam on the job. He came on time, he was friendly, he didn't make me feel stupid for not knowing what was wrong with my computer or why. He got straight to work and spent the whole time fixing stuff- that's about as computer literate as I am, so that is my summary- but as he worked he told me What he was fixing and Why and made a few suggestions to keep my computer running better in the future. He even stayed a few minutes over his time to make sure the job was done completely, without leaving any loose ends, and he did not charge me for this extra time. He obviously knew his stuff and answered all of my questions whenever I had any. He was also willing to explain some things to me that I did not know about. I hope he gets well deserved recognition for exceptional customer service, because I was apprehensive about having an unknown person come into my home and try to fix something, and I will ask for him again whenever I need help. I would not hesitate to recommend this firm.
Description of Work: my computer was a mess! It had every problem from shutting down when it felt like it to refusing to go to web sites to refusing to STAY on web sites. The man who put it together said it had a virus, and I needed to bring it in, but I don't know enough about computers to even unwire it properly, so I decided to go for home services. The tech came in and basically fixed a lot of problems that were slowing my computer down and making it run erratically.

After spending most of the hour I paid for without any success, he decided to call Dell directly, which if any of you have ever tried calling their customer service is a nightmare in itself! He eventually connected the printer wirelessly, as requested. He ran over an hours and knew that I wasn't happy that we never address the other network issues. He also realized that he did what I could have done for free, call Dell directly. He did offer to absorb the cost of the service call, that I do admire. I will not however take food of off another man's table. He connected my printer, was very polite and friendly. I just wish he could have saved time by coming her fully understanding Windows 8 and wireless networking.
Description of Work: Though things didn't work out as I had hoped, the technician did manage to get my printer networked. He didn't know, nor understand Windows 8 or my printer, so he spent a lot of time redoing all of the same steps I had already attempted by reviewing online help at Dell and going through the installation instructions.

Mike provided superb advice and service. He focused on what we needed and gave clear and practical suggestions for improving our data backup process and optimizing the wireless footprint in our home. He was articulate, friendly, professional, knowledgable, and efficient, and we took his personal company card so that we could request his services by name in the future.
Description of Work: Mike with Geek Choice accomplished two tasks. First, we looked at the backup data resident on an external hard drive, found the most important data from an old hard drive that crashed, and discussed how to get the data I want back onto my current laptop hard drive. Then we discussed how the automated backup had been done in the past and walked through easier and more targeted tactics for data backup in the future. This process included first receiving advice on the best approach, then walking through the procedure with us in the driver's seat (also creating useful shortcuts to simplify the procedure). Secondly, Mike, surveyed our wireless environment and made concrete recommendations on how to improve the distribution of wireless access through the condominium, given that the signal from the present router is hampered seriously by passage through two solid walls. We discussed parameters of better routers and the possible incorporation of a repeater in our wireless configuration. Both services were well-completed within one hour.

The technician, Allen, did a magnificent job. He is very knowledgeable, very fast and very adaptive to the changing nature of the problem. He was even willing to work a few minutes over and made sure the job was effectively completed. My wireless printer was found to be malfunctioning in a way that hard to discover. He found the problem and set up an alternative. When he left, he had set up a wireless printing capability on a printer that did not even have a wireless capability. He did this by working off the inter-connectivity through the internet router. I still don't understand how he did it, but it still works fine after several days. I recommend the work of Geeks Choice and Allen wholeheartedly. Of course the cost was a little high, but it costs to get good computer repair work on site. If you need it, Geeks Choice is a good option.
Description of Work: Had a problem printing from all computers, and general problems setting up computer systems after a move.

Service person showed up at scheduled time. Started by reinstalling the printer software on my work computer, and going through the whole set-up even though I told him I had done that at least 5 times before in my effort to get it working. Very chatty. 1st hour was spent on this, with the conclusion it could not be done. Told firewall issue that my IT dept. will need to resolve. Back where I started. Also requested help connecting my personal laptop to my HDMI TV to watch streaming video movies. I Explained that the sound goes through my Bose 321 System, and that's when he told me I must contact Bose to solve problem - he couldn't solve it. I called Bose - since it takes care of audio only, is a non-issue - just connect directly from laptop to TV. I'm back where I started, no resolution since inputs for TV behind it and it's mounted on the wall. So, spent $165 ($75 for 1 hour coupon + $90 for 2nd hour) to get my wireless communication going between personal laptop and printer. That's it. Just frustrated that I ended up w/2 out of 3 problems I had before service person arrived.

Some time has elapsed since the work was done but I will recall it as accurately as possible. The main incentive was the Big Deal price of $45-much cheaper than the usual cost. The appointment was easy to set up and the office staffperson was pleasant. A mix-up of my work date and/or time happened but after some calls, the technician was able to accomodate me. He worked quickly and efficiently to discard unnneccessary things, install a system for my photos, and set up new security among other things. He also explained things to me ( a technically handicapped person). I was happy with this experience as I needed this done but also got a good price. It was a good way to evaluate a company. ,.

I contacted Geek Choice because they were offering a special as part of Angie's List Big Deal promotions. The advertised price was for $75.00 for one hour of service. My only issues, which is why I gave them a "C" rating in both these categories, were responsiveness and price. I originally had scheduled the service for Sept. 11 at 4:30 and stayed home from work. The day of the appointment at approximately 3:00, I received a call from Geek Choice saying that the technician assigned to the job had called out sick and they had no one else on the schedule to replace him. I rescheduled the appointment for Saturday 9/15 at 12:00pm. They did show up on time and completed the work. Overall, the experience was satisfactory, albeit nothing extraordinary. I did not find the tech to be communicative and he did not provide a lot of explanation on what he was doing. He did complete the work however and I've had no issues thus far. My only other issue was the price. They charged me $75 for the first hour as advertised and then $140 for the additional hour which I thought was excessive. The total cost would have been more because they did not have any record of my Angie's List discounted price for the first hour (they seemed confused on the agreed upon price). I did save my confirmation receipt and provided that to the technician as proof. Overall, I would probably contact them again for minor repairs and diagnostics but I would shop around for a better rate first.
