Phil came out and looked the work over for an estimate without anyone having to be there and take time off. Once we said okay to the work they finished it within 1 week. We were thrilled that they were able to do the work so quickly in view of the water damage we were having every time it rained. The work was excellent and our problems were solved. Also, Phil was always easy to get a hold of. He always returned our calls. The work was done and completely cleaned up afterward, you wouldn't know they had been there.

Every person I dealt with, from the person who took my initial call to Joe Duffy to the crew who worked on my house was extremely helpful and nice. Some crazy late autumn and early winter weather hurt the schedule a bit, however Joe was very apologetic and still managed to get the work done in a reasonably timely manner. The work looks great (including some extra work to tuck the downspouts in extra tight to the front of the house), and my next door neighbor commented that she had observed how carefully the crew worked and cleaned up afterward.

They returned my initial call promptly. They came when they said they would. They gave me a good assessment of what the problem was (turned out to be correct when they got up on the roof), and an estimate of the cost. They sent a contract that was clear. They came when they said they would, and they did the job. They followed up with several phone calls to make sure there was no evidence of leaks after a heavy rain. They were consistently courteous and professional throughout.

Duffy Roofing was just great to work with. Everything was prompt and done exactly as expected. They even performed some repair work to prevent a leak we had into the house. I would easily hire them again, which I may need to do in the Spring to change the slant on a roof.

Took a while for them to start but when their 2 guys actually were here they worked solidly and well. I must give them credit for allowing the job to shrink as they could not think up solutions to various problems. Overall job took 2 man-days and an estimated $500 in materials, which comes to about $210 per man-hour. Other quotes were higher. Why be a lawyer when you can do roofing??

They showed up on time. They stuck to the estimate they quoted to me. They cleaned up nicely after themselves. They were easy to talk to and answered any of my questions.

We had used Duffy Roofing about a year ago to do some roof-related work and were happy with their service, so when a small leak appeared recently we had them come check it out. Again, Duffy Roofing was very professional and worked rapidly to complete the agreed-upon work. Once again they inspected and repaired our old slate roof and they seem to have fixed the leak we reported. Phil from Duffy Roofing seems very knowledgeable about slate roofs and was helpful in recommending that we deal with the continued maintenance of the slate roof by inspecting and spot-repairing on a regular basis since replacing it would be very expensive.

Initially, our small(4-unit)condo association had a couple of roof-related issues(mostly related to rotting and/or water-damaged wood around the base of the roof). We wanted to have it fixed, so we brought in a few local roofers to assess the situation and provide estimates. Of these roofers, Phil from Duffy Roofing, was the most responsive and offered the most reasonable estimate for the work we wanted to have done. After receiving the estimate, we decided there were a few more things we wanted to have looked at, and Phil worked with us to suggest a course of action. We ended up deciding to replace an old wooden gutter with a new aluminum one and have our ancient slate roof inspected and spot-repaired for the first time since we've been living in our big, old house. Phil quickly turned around a second estimate to which we agreed, and work began shortly afterward. I believe it only took a day or two for Phil's crew to finish work on the house, and everything looked great-at least from where we stood on the ground(our roof is very high up and at points quite steeply pitched). No debris was left on the scene, and nobody was inconvenienced at all to accommodate the work crew. They showed up, did their thing, and were gone. Payment was very straightforward and easy-we paid about 1/4 of the cost up front and then sent a check for the remainder a couple weeks later. Overall, we were very satisfied with the work Duffy Roofing did and would definitely use them again in the future.

Joe returned my call very quickly. After I explained the job to him (sagging roof causing water damage to building front in historic area), he explained that historic repair (in particular copper roof replacement) was not his specialty. I felt very confident that Joe understood exactly what repairs were required and he gave me a good reference for someone who did specialize in this area of restoration. For a different job I would definitely call him again!

They were very quick to return my call and came out immediately. Very thorough explanation of what was needed and what the process would be during the estimate. They were incredibly careful about covering up the landscaping around the house and cleaning up after removing the old roof. They were on time, did a great job on the roof and a great job cleaning up. The estimate was a bit higher than two others but they handled the permit, the dumpster rental, assured me they would do a thorough job on the repairs and could start the following week. They did a great job and handled everything that needed to be done!

They came promptly. Cleaned up each day. Worked hard. Were polite, punctual, professional. They understood the problem and knew how to resolve it.

The overall experience of working with Duffy Roofing as represented by Joe Duffy was incredibly satisfying. Joe was professional and responsive from the time of the first phone call and throughout the job. We knew we needed roof repairs, and had been told by various roofing companies that we needed a new roof. We had received estimates of $10,000 to $50,000. I found Duffy through Angie's List and was so happy I did. Joe asserted that we did not need a new roof and could go several more years by doing the repairs as well as cleaning all the debris from the gutters. The gutters probably had not been cleaned in years and he thought that water backing up in the gutters was adding to our leaking problems. Since Duffy has done the repairs and cleaned the gutters, we have had no leaking issues. They started and completed the job exactly when they said they would. Joe was extremely knowledgeable about the ins and outs of working on a building in a historic district in Boston. His team was thorough and knowledgeable and made sure we had the appropriate permit and followed the rules of retaining a police detail since they were working over a sidewalk. Overall, me and the other condo owners in the building and our tenants were very happy with Duffy Roofing.

Phil was prompt, friendly, and thorough when he visited to offer an estimate. He spent a good half-hour, at least, examining the exterior with me. My original idea was to focus simply on the (wooden) gutters: cleaning, oiling, and spot-repair if needed. Phil helped me to re-prioritize in a sensible way. First, have the chimney pointed. Then, clean and oil the gutters and, while doing the gutter work, take photographs of problem areas with a view to planning ahead for possible future repairs (or replacement), if warranted. A crew arrived the next day for the chimney work, which they completed nicely, maintaining the original (and rather unusual) Victorian shape. The following day, the gutter crew completed its work within a few hours. A few days later, Phil gave us some close-up snapshots of the gutters, as he'd said he would. A thoroughly professional organization and a pleasure to do business with.

They extremely professional and straightforward. They got down to business and were willing to do the work I needed. They were honest, they told me that instead of replacing the whole thing we could just do the repairs.

Terrific job - price wasn't the cheapest we received, but Duffy was worth every penny. Everyone was very professional and knowledgeable. Phil is a pleasure to work with - he did a very thorough analysis of the project, made great suggestions (both functional and aesthetic) and made sure that the project was done on time and done right. It was a wonderful experience to have the person who "sold the product" be so proactively involved to make sure everything ran smoothly. Even the owner John Duffy would show up unannounced to make sure the project was running smoothly. They made sure that the landscaping, deck and windows were protected before starting the project and clean up was impeccable. This is a company that provides quality service and values its customers. I'd recommend that you place this company on the top of your "to call" list if you have any roof or gutter work that needs to be done. You will be in great hands!

We have an Old Greek Revival home circa 1840 whose wooden gutters needed replacing. We were very concerned about maintaining the original character of the house and having replacement gutters that would last and take the weight of a ladder. Joe Duffy was great to work with and he explained very clearly our options of replacements from keeping the wood to using a high quality aluminum. We decided on the aluminum. His quote was the price. His men were on time, pleasant professional and did a great job. We waited to tell him about how the new gutters were working out until we had a year to watch them. The job they did of redirecting downspouts and changing the pitch of some of the gutters made an enormous improvement. We've been in this house for 20 years. During heavy periods of rain we would get water in the basement. No more. Water used to pour like a waterfall off the gutter over our back door, drenching any one coming or going. No more. No more icicles over this door either. We will definitely call on them again.

We got estmates from three contractors for the initial gutter job. One of them was cheaper than Duffy's estimate, and the second was in the same ballpark as Duffy. We figured that the first contractor was probably not assessing the job adequately, and felt safer spending the money. It took us a few tries to actually get the initial appointment with Duffy, but I'm very glad we persisted. In both cases, they got to work within days of receiving the signed contracts, and each job was finished in well under a day, including a complete cleanup. Very professional and trustworthy, and we'll definitely call them again if we need more roof work. I've got them bookmarked in del.icio.us, too!

Excellent experience. The house was built in 1916 using Philadelphia slate. We stopped doing maint on the roof over the years because we were very dissatisfied with all the slate roofers we contacted. Non-slate roofers would want to replace the roof and slate roofers would ask us how much we wanted to spend. For instance, if we wanted to spend $3,000 that is what they would do, if we want to spend $6,000 then that is what we would get. In addition, we had 3 "piles" of original slate that other roofers would not use. So, in comes Joe Duffy. After hearing our concerns in our thinking that our slate roof was beyond repair and that our roof leaks he did his assessment. He explained our options and surprised us by saying that our roof was not in that bad condition and can be repaired. He explained that slate roofs need maint, not removal like other roofs. We should expect to do this again after the winter and then smaller repairs over the years. For $3,650 his 3 man crew came out, used our slates and went over the entire roof. They replaced slates, they repaired the slates, flashing, etc. My roof now looks great and there are no leaks. In addition, they cleaned the gutters, cleared out birds nests, added cement flashing where necessary and assessed the condition of the chimney. Half the chimney needs re-pointing and we will discuss that with him later. Joe answered my e-mail promptly and was out to do an estimate earlier than scheduled. He responded quickly and gave us our estimate. We booked the job and it was done. The workers were quiet, and worked all day. Joe is coming back to give us an estimate on our garage roof which he says was installed incorrectly and we will use him for another house as well.

Got name from Angie's list. Called and owner came out in 2 days to give estimate. Was unable to match color exactly on the rest of the house but came very close - told us of the problem ahead of time. Replaced roof about 2 weeks later in one day. Cleaned up very well. No add on prices.

Very professional, very knowledgeable. Phil knows roofs, including my complicated 100 year-old slate roof. I contacted a half dozen roofers- this company was, by far, the most responsive. This was not the cheapest estimate, but I feel the price I paid was very reasonable & fair given the caliber of the work done.

They were most prompt at returning my call, so I chose this company do the job. They came highly recommended, by both Angie's List and my neighbor. I was very pleased with job they did. Very professional, courteous. I only gave them a B on quality because I am unable to get up on the roof myself, but I have no leaks.

At first they sent a roofer over to look at the leak. They caulked an area above the leak, but that did not stop the leak during the next bad storm. With the second call, they were not professional and became very rude to us. They insulted us and got into a shouting match with us. It was not pleasant. Doesn't seem to constitute much of a guarantee.

My house was built in 1890 and I have a beautiful slate roof. She's been weathering this rainy summer without incident till one windy August morning. I woke up to find a growing water stain on my ceiling. Having had Joe Duffy come to my house once before to give me an estimate on having copper gutter-works installed, (I decided to forgo the cosmetic improvement), I had found Joe's honest straight forward approach refreshing after having dealt with more than my fair share of shady contractors. So I called Duffy's once again, this time to help me with the repair of my hundred year old slate roof. I called on Wednesday they sent Phil Buswell over on Thursday morning to scope out the problem on Friday I had a crew of 5 or so guys over at 8:00 a.m. repairing my roof. How's that for service?! Phil, Like his boss was very professional, honest and courteous. I'm glad to report that the roof isn't leaking anymore and all my broken/slipped slate shingles have been replaced. They also cleaned my gutters (at no extra cost to me) and re-roofed the tops of my bay windows. It was nice to meet another person on the Duffy Roofing team, {thanks Phil}, and it was pleasant to have the capable team at Duffy work on my roof. I'm glad to report the leak is no more and my 100 year old slate roof is in tip-top shape for the coming winter.

I'm a bit disappointed and did want to fail to mention that I have called this company three times now and they have not bothered to give me a call back.

He was very thorough in examining the problems and carefully explaining to me in understandable terms the different options. The repair was done at the time stated in the contract. The crew was very careful to avoid harming plantings and cleaned up afterward such that it was hard to tell they had been there. We are very pleased with the work and results.
