They came, they fixed, they left. They did a great job quickly. The proof came the next week when we got a Nor'easter. No leaks. We're very happy.

Work was fine . they had to come back to adjust angle of the gutter, dripping a bit. Came back eventually. All went well. a little push was needed, but the owner, or one of them, a very nice young man, seemed to want to do a good job, very up front about what needs to be fixed, and no charge

Duffy has been my long time roof and gutter company. I've previously written glowing reviews. I've always found them to be costly, but you get what you pay for and they have excellent tradesmen who do the actual work. I understand that they need to pay well to retain good staff, pay for insurance, etc. They recently lost a key sales employee who was my contact for a number of years and with whom I had a strong relationship. While Duffy's work quality remains excellent, I'm disappointed with the staff changes and the younger family members they've brought on to learn the business. It's like starting completely over. In the past I've had Duffy clean my gutters and paid a price that was about 50-100% higher than competitors I had found on Angie's List. However I paid this anyway for the inspection that went with it and to maintain the relationship. I could always count on them to come quickly for any reason. This year I was told that what I was paying was not enough, and that frankly they had no interest in coming to Newton for this purpose (it wasn't a good use of their time). Also, in asking them to add another downspout at the front of my house (work that I had requested earlier in the year but that may have been lost in their transition) I sent photos and agreed to a price with Brett, signed a contract that he sent me, etc. However, when he came to do the work he informed me that there was more work than he anticipated (they needed to cut into a piece of fascia) and he was actually rude to me before leaving in a bit of a huff. Despite this the work was done within 45 minutes of starting. I care about the quality of the work but I also want to be treated well, and fairly, and with respect. Unfortunately I don't feel this way about the "new" Duffy team. I remember the father/grandfather coming to my home when I first used them to inspect and monitor the work. It's no longer the same.

They appeared at 7 am, as they said they would, with 7 or 8 workers and a big dumpster. The noise was astonishing, all through the house, as they removed the old roof. By mid morning, they were ready to start with the new materials. They finished about 6:30 pm, blowing all remaining bits and pieces. There were a few tiny bits of roofing and several pieces of wood which they missed in the dark, but they came early the next morning and took the dumpster and all remaining parts. That it was all done in one day was astonishing to us and we were very grateful for a very good job, done speedily.

Excellent job. We had another roofer look at this roof and he wanted to replace the whole roof. Brett Duffy explained why it just needed to be repaired. The workmen were on time, efficient, and cleaned up the area after them. Would use them again with no hesitation.

They were excellent and it was fine. I liked the prompt scheduling of the work and the workmanship itself was very good. It was a pleasure to deal with the company's representative.

Joe and his crew were great! They did everything they said they would, on time and at the estimated price. Before I hired Duffy roofing to repair our slate roof I spent a lot of time talking with various roofers to try to a**** if they really knew how to work with slate roofs or if they just said they did. It was clear that Joe and his team had both the skills and years of experience to take care of our slate roof properly. Originally the job was supposed to be a 1.5-2 day job, but after a longer than expected wait to get a permit, Joe doubled the number of men on the job and got it done in one day. Their work looks great and we've had no leaks or problems of any kind. I hope to use Duffy Roofing again in the future to take care of our slate roof. I can't overstate how please we were with their work.

Joe Duffy responded to my request for an estimate which he provided in good time. He explained how the job would be done and answered all my questions so I clearly understood the process. His crew arrived for work on time and got right to it and were done in a day and a half. They took away all the old materials and cleaned up well. I would definitely use them again.

there were 2 known roof leak issues. Even on the phone Mr. Duffy was asking very direct and probing questions that pointed a good knowledge of his craft and a desire to do the most for the least. A review of the situation at the home with the leaks was fast but to the point and resulted in the lowest quote of some 3 other roofers Because the work required us to get some materials (to save us money) and because it was a half day job some time passed between quote and deposit and the actual work starting. This however was explained at the time the quote was given. The work was done quickly and cleanly on the day the work was promised. The heavy July 4th rains seem to have been the best proof yet that the problems are fixed. I'm very grateful to Duffy Roofing...best quote, quickest survey of the situation and excellent results.

Boss man was on vacation. 2nd in charge came out. Told me that it would cost mega bucks to fix a small leak in the roof and put a gutter back up that the snow had pushed down. Then about a month later, called back and said that he couldn't help me if he didn't know the town I lived in, dear. Didn't even remember coming out, till I reminded him.

I called 4 gutter people. All 4 came out but only Duffy Roofing and another contractor insisted on coming while we were home. Brett Duffy walked me around my house pointing out damages on some of our corners (not the gutter or fascia board). He pointed out some of the trickery areas that would be time consuming in order to keep the historic integrity of the house. He explained and showed me the materials he would use and gave me a price before he left. .I was ready to hire him on the spot but had some lower quotes that I wanted to review. One of the lower quotes was $3,000 so I emailed him Brett's description of his proposal. He told me that no one did the work that way anymore. He then set up an appointment with me for the next morning. I walked him around the house and showed him the wood under the gutters and fascia board that looked like they needed to be replaced. He told me I never asked him to include those in the quote. My feeling is that he was the expert and he should have talked to me about doing this work the first time. By the time he left I knew that I was not going to hire him. I received a quote for over $7,000 the next day. After he left I called Brett and hired Duffy Roofing. Duffy Roofing did the job 1 or 2 days after I sent him the signed contract. Brett and his men showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves each day and left the place spotless. They painted the gutters to match our trim. It took them 2 days to do the work. I would strongly recommend Duffy Roofing. And we in fact are switching over to them for our spring and summer gutter cleanings. I could have saved myself $1,000+ if I had gone with the other lower quote. There was something about Brett that I really liked and I am so glad that I went with Duffy Roofing.

When I described the problem Mr. Duffy told me he did not think it was coming from the roof/chimmney as there was no evidence on the second floor. He suggested it was probably a plumbing issue and to paint over it and see if it leaked again. He offered to come out and re-assess then. He even told me what paint to buy! I appreciated his honesty and would call him again for any roofing work I might need in the future. P.S. it has not leaked since.

He was very professional and he sent me a quote the same day as he stated he would. He also sent me copies of insurance certificates showing he had workers comp as well as liability coverage. I had gotten 4 quotes for the job and his was the highest. We chose another provider that was in the middle.

This is the 4th slate roofer I've dealt with and will likely be the one I'll stick with. Very pleasant and professional to work with. Also, the price he quoted in the estimate was exactly what he charged me - no surprises.

Did not go well.

He was the most honest roofer I've ever spoken to. He told me what type of professional I needed to hire to get the work done.

I'm still waiting on that return call. I used someone else.

A phenomenal job was done by these guys. They were able to help quickly and were pleasant to work with. Definitely recommend them for any roofing that needs to be done.

I chose them because I used them once before for a roof inspection, and everything went well. They were fast and efficient, cleaned up after themselves, and arrived on schedule. Furthermore, the workers were polite and courteous.

They did more than expected. It could not have gone any better than it did. When I had a problem with a skylight in the roof a year later, they came out the next day, fixed the problem and did not charge a dime. They are the best!

Duffy did a great job. I previously had Duffy come give me a quote on some gutter work, but Phil explained to me why the idea I had was not worth the money. Based on that honesty and recommendations from friends, I called Duffy again recently when some shingles flew off our roof. Phil got back to me quickly. He had me email him some pictures of the shingles that flew off, explained what appeared to be the problem (improper nailing pattern by prior roofer who had installed the roof before we bought the house), and explained what they could do. His quote was lower than two other companies I had contacted. Phil then followed up by phone a few mornings later to say they would be in the area and could come by to do the repair and inspect things. It looks like they did a good job. Phil then called a few days after to explain that the improper nailing pattern is prevalent on the roof and will likely require replacing the entire roof in a few years, but that there were no immediate areas that needed fixing. Overall, I have been very pleased with the Duffy's work, honesty and responsiveness. I will certainly call them again for any roofing issues.

What impressed me was Phil stopping by on Saturday. It was raining, and he wanted to check the work as we had problems with leaks behind the old gutters. We discussed the one, last problem area and will have them back to fix it. Higher prices, but the services is worth it.

I'm putting my house on the market and was advised to have minor cosmetic roof repairs done. Phil gave me some excellent advice: instead of doing work that the future owners might have wanted done differently, he suggested that I roll that small fee into a deduction in the price of the house -- approximately $1000. He easily could have done the work and made a little money but instead put my needs as the customer first. Classy.
