 + -1 moreOverall the job went very well and quickly. I called on a Thursday and Phil came out and gave us a detailed estimate that Saturday morning. He seemed capable and thorough and was patient with all my questions (I knew nothing about gutters). I felt comfortable agreeing to the estimate and when a spot opened up in their schedule that Tuesday, a crew of 4 men came and finished the work in less than 1 day. The new gutters look fantastic and the crew did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. I am very happy with their work and will not hesitate to hire them for any future gutter or roofing needs (we have a rubber roof).
Description of Work: Removed old wooden end-pieces from front gutter, replaced gutter and wrapped it around corner (to replace wooden end-piece), removed extra downspouts from front and back of house, installed new downspout at side of house and pitched the gutter so that majority of water runs into the alley-side downspout, not the front downspout.

 + -1 moreMy husband and I were in the process of purchasing a home when the initial inspection revealed there were issues with wet insulation under the rubber roof. Duffy Roofing came up as one of the top rated roofers in an Angie's List search for my area and so I called them to come out and do an estimate on the work needed to repair this home's roof. After leaving a message after hours, Phil called me back early the next morning. He was very responsive and knowledgeable as I explained the situation and he told me what he thought might be the issue. The next day he met us at the property, inspected the roof then took the time to discuss the problem with us (in need of a total replacement) and the associated costs (around $6,900). We were impressed with his level of detail, explanation (all the meanwhile kindly handling occasional negative comments from the seller's realtor) and ability to answer all our questions. Since we are first-time home buyers and don't have a basis for comparison, I can't speak to Duffy's pricing in comparison to other roofers. However, after our experience with Phil, a work colleague told me she has used Duffy in the past and that they were well priced and did and excellent job. A personal referral made me feel even better about getting the roof replacement estimate from Phil/Duffy. Based on their professionalism and reputation, assuming all goes well and we purchase this home, we will be using Duffy for the roof work. Thank you Phil for all your help. We look forward to hopefully working with you.

 + 0 moreThe end result was very good but there were two aspects of the job which detracted from the quality of our overall experience. They are explained below. The co. owner arrived promptly as promised; he provided a clearly defined on-line invoice a few days later. The company's online tools and scheduling system are excellent. We were surprised to not see the co. owner again although he did provide email updates. To have rated our overall experience "A", we feel he should have called or emailed at the end of the job to ask us if we were satisfied since he did not appear on site at any time to inspect the finished job. The 2 painters performed the work well although heavy rains kept them away for over one week. The carpentry work performed was carefully done although I had to locate a specialty lumber yard for the materials for them which surprised me and consumed a good deal of time. Ultimately, the painter found the needed materials at a home center in his own neighborhood upon further investigation. The painter who is the owner's brother was careful and thoughtful in cleaning the site each day although on day one he arrived with only one tarp and no broom or shop vac. I was concerned about lead paint chips since we grow vegetables so not having suffiicient tarps was a big negative for us. I had laid out additional tarps and also provided a shop vac. On day 2 the painter was better prepared for the job. The biggest negative was that 3 bags of paint scrapings were left in the garage for us to dispose of. We had not been informed that disposal that this would be our responsibility. In terms of rehiring this company, we would need to have resolution about these 2 items before we would use this company again in the future. If these can be resolved, we would be happy to contact the company again.
Description of Work: Scraped and painted 1910 clapbpard one car garage. Reglazed double hung windows and painted. Repainted one side of 7 foot wood fence.

 + -1 moreCalled and received a call back within 24 hours; agreed to day/time for estimate; arrived promptly at appointed time, and had estimate same day. Work was done efficiently, expertly, and the clean up left things better than before they arrived. House (21 year old) needed new roof. Found out that I had great venting into attic, but nothing to vent out. As part of project they vented the top of the roof, making attic cooler in summer, and warmer in winter. They cleared gutters, repaired vent in overhang, and repaired flashing around chimney that had caused small leak. They also painted repair work so that everything matches. The professionalism, promptness, and workmanship was fantastic. They went above and beyond in all phases of the project. One note to anyone who is getting a new roof: cover everything in your attic as grit will end up everywhere. Also be prepared especially if you have a pull-down ladder - after project pull down carefully and know some grit will come down too, so have a vacuum handy.

The first thing I noticed is that when I spoke with Phil he tried to change my mind about the wooden gutters I wanted and acted like I would be a long commute and I knew I would not be. Overall they failed because they tried to talk me into something I did not want, came out anyway on a Saturday morning at 8am and then never followed through with the written estimate. They were on time, which was good.

Within 24 hours of speaking to him, Phil Buswell from Duffy Roofing took the time from his busy schedule to swing by the property and examine the roof and give us an estimate. He did not charge us for this service and, since we're still in the negotiating phase of the purchase, there is no guarantee of future work. Despite this, he was extremely pleasant through the entire process and very responsive. If the sale of the property goes through, we definitely plan to use Phil for the roof repairs.

 + -1 morei contacted them through Angie's list, got a response within 24 hours, met with Phil the next day, had an estimate and contract within 24 hours after that, and the work was completed one week after I found them on Angie's List. Ours was a small-ish job, and it was April, but from start to finish I found that they knew what they were doing, provided all the information we needed, worked with us to get the job done to our satisfaction.
Description of Work: The quality of the work is excellent, the team was friendly and accomodating to neighbors (shared driveway), and punctual - in fact, completed the work so quickly everyone was astonished. The salesman, Phil, was great - explained everything, listened to our concerns, answered questions, and then delivered as promised. The work crew also was careful with our plants and garden, and cleaned up thoroughly after themselves. Highly recommend this company!

 + 0 moreThe gentleman came promptly after I called him. He was professional, courteous, gave me a good price, and, as you can see by the above, he went above and beyond the call of duty.
Description of Work: They put a new roof on the house, corridor and attached barn in late December 2010. In January 2011, they did the following: They put a gutter on the barn, put downspouts on the barn, and sun porch and front porch. They also put a new roof on the detached garage. They also took out and replaced the rotted wooden beams on the right underside of the garage roof (That is considered carpentry work rather than roofing work.). They even took out a heavy air conditioner that was in the garage and disposed of it for me, as well as threw out a few pieces of lawn furniture, etc. for me in the dumpster. They needed to get a dumpster to dispose of the old roofing materials but knew they weren't going to fill it.

 + -1 moreWith Duffy, well. Phil Buswell is prompt, and doesn't BS. They'll be on the high side, but will be worth it to get the job done right.
Description of Work: We contacted Duffy Roofing to bid on a roof repair or replacement. As it happened, we didn't use Duffy, but some among us wish we had. This is one of the downfalls of living in a Condo, where matters that require consensus often mean compromise. In this case, we're a 3-unit condo association (each owns a unit in a converted triple-decker in JP). There was water damage and water leaking into the 3rd-floor unit, in various places. We have a flat rubber roof that's about 12-years old. Duffy came by, on time for a scheduled walk-through and to provide an estimate. Phil Buswell is the name of the man that visited. Some in our group thought him to be too brusque, and a bit arrogant and abrasive. My argument to these concerns is that we weren't interviewing a potential friend or nanny, but rather a roofer. I felt Phil was a straight-shooter who didn't hold back. His attitude regarding the work they do was a bit cocky, but he pointed out, from our roof, 3 other buildings within 100 yards where they had done work; if we wanted to get an idea, we needed only knock on our neighbor's door and ask, or check Angie's LIst. Within 2-days, Phil sent a clear estimate, including warranty and insurance binder. Their price was high, about 12.5k, but included replacing the roof drain (we knew this could be a source of one of the leaks), gutters front and back where there are none, and removal of the existing roof rubber and sub-roof. All of this was promised in a day. We went with a different roofer (Doherty Roofing - Boston Copper Roof), for an estimate of half the price (the writer was dubious, but acquiesced). Now, less than 5 months later, we're contending with a roof that leaks, a roofer that won't back up his work, and we are unable to contact someone like Duffy to come a put it right. And it took them 3 days to do it. You get what you pay for.

 + 0 moreIn the aftermath of this winter?s severe snowstorms several segments of wooden gutter were literally dragged away from our house by ice sliding off of the roof. The whole gutter system was leaky and not working very well anyway so we decided to have it all replaced. Having started using Duffy Roofing last year to maintain our slate roof, and based on the very good experiences we?d had with them so far, we felt confident contacting them for the gutter work. They responded promptly and Phil Buswell came out to inspect the damage and consult on what could be done. I was inclined, mainly for aesthetic reasons, to continue using wood gutters but was persuaded by Phil?s carefully considered and convincing arguments to go with aluminum instead. Duffy mounts the aluminum gutters with stainless steel bolts and hardware, so they are extremely strong and durable. They paint the gutters, along with any exposed wood, as they?re being installed. The team doing the work was highly professional and efficient. I was impressed that they didn?t just mindlessly replicate what had been there, but thoughtfully repositioned downspouts and modified slopes to improve drainage. Heavy rains two days after the work was finished confirmed that the improvements were indeed very significant. The new system works brilliantly and looks fantastic. Aesthetically, I feel it?s every bit as good looking as wood but it has a much larger water carrying capacity so there?s none of the overflow that we used to get. They did a great job on the porch roof too?all in all a great company.

 + 0 moreThe service provided by this company was outstanding. They responded quickly to my emergency needs for ice dam removal and quickly provided estimates for gutter repair and replacement. Duffy was especially effective at working with my insurance adjuster so that my claims were accepted as submitted without any reduction. All work was done quickly, responsively, and to my satisfaction. This is my second positive experience with this company. I have found that their workmanship is excellent and easily withstands the worst winter conditions. Although the prices may seem high at first they are justified by the quality of their product and work. My "Duffy "gutters have lasted where those installed by other vendors for less money did not hold up under even moderately bad conditions.

 + 0 moreFor the most part, it was good. They cut a ridge across the top of the roof and we were told by someone else who was on top of the roof that they didn't clean out the gutters. There was debris from when they used the circular saw to cut the ridge vent and it trickled down the roof into the gutters, they should have cleaned that and apparently didn't. They didn't say they would, but I just think that when you do a job you should clean up. The experience with the workers was good. They were very focused and efficient. They left the debris in the gutters then I've also called them for other work and not had my calls returned. As far as I am concerned the clean up is part of the quality.

 + 0 moreThey did an excellent and wonderful job. They gave me a great price. I spent about $4000 and it was very cheap. Their workmanship was excellent. They were very fast. They brought a team in and they were finished in a day. They had everything they needed, got it all done and cleaned up everything. You never knew they were here. They came with their crew in some kind of special trucks and did it all. It was wonderful. It is a family owned business and so, they were wonderful. I met the father and he was the one I dealt with. He ran the business. Later on, when I had to have more work done, I dealt with the son because the father had retired. He was just as wonderful. I can?t say enough about them. I recommended them to my friends. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine had her roof done by him last year. They gave a great price and it was nice. So, they are still doing the same thing by providing good service for a good price in this economy. They were very reasonably priced. I had received some outrageous prices from some other contractors for the same work, but this guy was actually unbelievably low. The quality of work was a pleasure. I had my roof done almost ten years ago and I don?t have any leaks or anything. Their responsiveness was very good. I would definitely use their services in the future too.
Description of Work: Duffy Roofing Co Inc. did my gutters and all the roof work about ten years ago. They rubberized my roof where the sun reflects on it and it melts. They took out the chimneys and they fixed and repaired the holes on the roof. I had them come back and they did my gutters. I have a tiny porch that needed to be repaired and shingled. So, they did that as well. They did all my outside roof work like the roof top, gutters and all that.
