I had tried to call several roofers on angie's list and either they were never returning my calls or they did not want to come because they considered the rectory a commercial building. but Phil Buswell called me back and we meet his shortly after the first call. when he came, he inspected the property and the roof and made some recommendations (i.e. taking out one chimney that was collapsing in the back, fixing the gutters) and explained all the details of what he was going to do (strip the roof to roof boards, replace totted roof boards, etc..). he spent quite a lot of time explaining all the work to me, to my husband and to the reverend. the first day we met him (Nov 19) he provided us with the estimate and we were able to collect all signatures by Dec 15 (at that time we gave him a deposit of $2400). he called the week before they were doing the work and on Monday, January 30, a crew of 9 or 11 people was here and they completed the whole job in one day, taking out lots of board, and finishing the roof very nicely. they cleaned up everything, even looking for nails on the ground and by the following day also the dumpster was gone. we also contacted him for a problem with our roof (for our own house) and he was able to explained to us what we need, explaining that we did not need a roof repair but a gutter job and he will have him come again to sort out that problem (he gave us another very good estimate). we are very happy for this very pleasant experience with Duffy Roofing and we will contact him again for any more roof work at our property

Phil and his crew did a super job for us from first to last. The job presented some difficulties but Phil was extremely clear and helpful about spelling out our options and providing expert advice. The crew put on a full-court press to get the job done quickly and efficiently. They even went ahead and tightened the gutters to help ensure the quality of their work. This was outside the contract and they did not charge me for it--so that really got my attention. Extra credit to Duffy Roofing for follow-through: It turned out that there was a minor oversight in the original work that led to a leak in the roof a couple of weeks later. Even though the company was on its annual vacation when this happened, Phil got right back to me and made sure he had a man there ASAP to address the problem. This was a square deal from a company that clearly valued me as a customer. A very satisfying experience. Very highly recommended. Ask for Phil when you call.

Duffy Roofing did a great job on my Gutter replacement! 1) When calling you may get their answering service, but Joe or his team will return the call right away. It was also very easy to stay in contact with the company (via email or phone). 2) Joe came by and examined my gutters, he then gave me the options and answered all my questions. He also new what I wanted (basically the wood behind the gutters was not looking so great) and included the price installing the fascia behind the gutter. I got quotes from other gutter places, which were cheaper but when I asked about the fascia the price was the same. Joe was also more than happy to look and make suggestions on other areas of the house. Overall the initial phase was smooth. Joe sent an itemized quote shortly after... 3) Joe came by and earlier than expected and installed the gutter he had called and let me know that he was going to come in. His team installed, and cleaned up that I wouldn't have known they dropped by. He mentioned that I wouldn't have noticed unless he let me know he did the work, which was untrue because my wife noticed right away the improvement (the team cleaned up, straightened up and I believe even painted the gutter work they didn't replace.

Phil was extremely thorough during our estimate appointment on 20 August and candid about the state of our roof and our options. We are three owners of a 3-family home built in 1911 with a roof that was on it's way out. We told Phil that we accepted his bid on 31 August, and he and his team replaced our roof on 27 September. Phil and his team efficiently finished the job in one day and were thorough with clean up. Fabulous service.

Phil is GREAT. Phil/Duffy did a bit of gutter repair work on my house about 5 years ago, and they did a fabulous job. So I was not surprised this time that the same thing happened. They have an answering service at the contact phone number, which is usually a bit off-putting, but one of the members of the team is pretty quick to call. I will go to these guys for all of my future roof/gutter issues.

I was happy with the experience, as I always am with Duffy. Responsive, punctual, professional, good work. I've used them several times and keep coming back. One could probably find cheaper work, but I don't doubt the quality work with Duffy.

Joe came over and looked over the gutters and downspouts. He was very clear about the estimate. We were painting the house this year, so I had some reservations about doing the gutters first. Getting the painting done took several months, but when I finally called Duffy, they were ready to pick up right where we left off. We confirmed the estimate price together. With no fuss, they came by and got the work done quickly. They did great work without any headaches whatsoever at a good price.

After I made the phone call, I had an estimate scheduled within a few days and the work scheduled and completed in less than two weeks. I was thrilled with the work and the responsiveness of the company and would have no problem recommending them to anyone.

The Duffy team was professional, easy to live with, responsive, on time, and they got the job done on schedule. I can't say that the job was great because we need to live with the roof and gutters to see how well they protect the house and garage, especially during the winter months. But the roofs do look marvelous!

We are a returning customers. The original reason for contracting with them was to replace the rubber roof on our rental property garage. But during a previous storm, our tenants said there was a small leak in the roof of the house. So when Joe came to give us the estimate on the garage, he went up to check. It was mostly flashing and some funky seams that they could fix for about $200 while they were there doing the garage. But then Irene was coming. Joe called the friday before the hurricane was due to say his guys would be over to fix the house roof NOW. What could have been a small leak most likely would have become a major problem in a hurricane..thousands, not hundreds of $. They came and fix the house roof and started the garage work. We got through the storm without a leak or any other problems. They came back the following week and finished the garage. The guys were great, did a fantastic job and cleaned up after themselves. Joe was very thorough in explaining what they were going to do and why. His estimate was the price. We couldn't be happier.

Phil was firm that he wanted to meet with us to write his estimate. Others had just written based on observation of roof when we were not home, He arrived Saturday morning, explained history of our roof, came up with an innovative solution (remove chimney since it is not used), and prepared estimate. Work was completed in one day. Phil was immediately responsive to an issue, which turned out to not be an issue. Very careful attention to our plants, and to clean up. Overall very pleased!

I chose Duffy Roofing from the great reviews on Angie's List, and I wasn't disappointed. Our gutters and facia came down from storm damage. Phil came by for an estimate. He was prompt, professional, and thorough. Their price was more than fair. The work was done when he said it would be done, and we’ve been happy with the results, after 6 months and plenty of rain. I’d use them again.

Our old roof was losing shingles; it was 35-40 years old and obviously in need of replacement. We needed to get the work done in a specific time frame as we had travel plans and wanted to be in town when the work was done. Phil responded very promptly and was able to schedule the work for a two day time period that was very convenient for us. Everything was explained to us very well. The roofers did not come the first day because there were not enough shingles of our chosen color in the warehouse. However, they completed the entire job on the second day, using a large crew. The work went smoothly and the roof looks terrific. I was concerned about the workers because of the heat, but I observed that there were air-conditioned vehicles to which the workers could retreat to escape from the heat, and plenty of fluids for them to drink. All in all, it was a good experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Duffy Roofing.

I made the initial call to Duffy Roofing on June 29th. My call was returned the same day and Phil arrived to do the estimate the following day. First impression: Wow, they have their act together! After a visual inspection both outside the house and in our third floor room to examine the water staining, Phil gave me a good overview of what the team would do for us. They would replace any missing slates over the entire roof, They would replace other slates wherever the roofers deemed necessary to ensure the integrity of the roof. They would install shims where the roofers felt it was necessary. They would cement flash the chimneys. They would cement flash the valleys. They would inspect all the roof areas. And, finally, they would clean and oil our wooden gutters. The team arrived on time on July 7th and went right to work. I believe there were four workers on the roof simultaneously. They were thorough, professional, and they did great work. Phil stopped by to check up on the progress and had to make a run for additional slates--it seemed that we needed more than the usual number to be repaired/replaced. The additional slates were included in the agreed upon price. The team was on the roof well into the afternoon on a pretty hot day. When they finished, they cleaned all around the house and used a blower to clean the driveway of any dirt from the roof. I was impressed. Phil came by a little later, and I happily handed him the check. Will I use this company again? Yes! Will I recommend this company to others? Yes!

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Not only did I learn about the extent of the problems, I was fully informed about how making specific repairs using recommended products would help secure the interior of our home in the future.

An appointment was scheduled for someone to come by and assess the roof so that an estimate of cost for the work could be obtained. Nobody from the company showed up at the house as scheduled or called to explain why the appointment may be late or missed. I called the company 30 min after the appointment time and the answering service (a woman answered the phone) took note of my inquiry about the missed appointment, my name, and my number. Still no call from the company to explain why no one showed up as scheduled. Very unprofessional behavior, in my opinion.

The project started in mid-Winter, when Phil had planned to come take a look. But then it snowed. And snowed. And snowed. So once the snow melted, Phil was there with one of his crew bright and early on a Saturday to take a look and prepare a quote. From there, it was a matter of weather to get the job scheduled. We were told it could be a couple of weeks, but not a half a week later Phil showed up to take final measurements and the job was done a couple days later. Phil was sure to call during the course of the work to keep me up to speed on where things stood, etc. They were no-nonsense and completely professional the whole way, in-and-out and broom clean with a brand new roof in place.

Phil coordinated payments with insurance company in a way his competitors were unable or unwilling to do. John Duffy was personally involved in work, making sure things were done perfectly. Storm damage occurred many months ago and Duffy was the only company that was able to handle all aspects of the job from insurance negotiations to completion in a professional manner. I am difficult to please, but I would not hesitate to recommend Phil, John and their team to anyone needing roof work. SBF

The installation went well without a hitch. The flat roof of my unattached 2-car garage in Dorchester had developed a series of small leaks. First, I was able to easily patch them with roofing tar and a spreader from Home Depot. But after a few months, the leak would reappear. After my fourth patch attempt failed, I gave up and called 3 roofers and got 3 quotes. Duffy came first, responding within 24 hours to my call and scheduling an a time to come over and look at the roof. Duffy gave me a detailed quote in writing (by e-mail) specifying how they would remove the debris of leaves and such and install a new 420-square-foot rubber roof, including the necessary components like edging and flashing around 2 vents. Their quote helpfully came in contract form and listed their contact information, their roofer registration and tax identification, assurance they carried proper liability and worker's compensation insurance, as well as reasonable terms and conditions and a guarantee. Duffy's price was competitive, within $100 of the other 2 guys I got quotes from (about the other guys I got quotes from, the third guy seemed perfectly good but his quote happened to be $150 more, and the second guy's style rubbed me the wrong way by asking gossipy questions about the other two guys and spending more time running down his would-be competitors than addressing how he would fix the roof). So I chose Duffy. Duffy scheduled a time that was convenient for both of us, arrived promptly, and with a crew of about 4 people set about quickly and competently replacing the roof. His crew worked well around 2 other crews that are installing installation and windows on my main house, and were not fazed by the crazy Polack wife next door who makes a hobby of arguing with contractors working on my house. I waited until 2 heavy rainstorms had come and gone before posting this to make sure there are no leaks. There are no leaks. Great job! Thanks, Duffy Roofing!
