Everyone at Bay State was easy to communicate with and professional. Ray and Martha in the office always got back in a timely manner. On site, David, Marcio and Yuri and their teams all did high quality work, were punctual and friendly, and always communicated clearly. Project completed on schedule, and pretty close to initial estimated budget: only overage was some extra unanticipated plumbing (it is an old house), but Ray and the team were able to work with us on that as well. In the end we love our new bathroom!

I wanted to redo my master bedroom since it was incredibly outdated and needed a face-lift. I found out about Bay State Remodeling online after shopping around a few other places. Of all the places I called (4 total), Bay State was the most professional and courteous. I normally do not review places unless the customer-service experience is negative. However, I wanted to make sure the staff who helped me transform my bedroom were given the proper recognition for their services. First off, Martha (who fielded my call) was very well-informed and friendly over the phone. I felt at ease talking to her and setting up an appointment to get an estimate for the project. Ray and Yuri were the ones who surveyed the space and gave me a competitive price estimate. I was worried the actual remodeling would be stressful (I have a full-time job so the last thing I want to come home to is construction), however, the execution by the Bay State team was seamless. Marcio, Ari, and Rogerio (pretty sure I got their names correct) were such a delight! I couldn't be happier with how my room turned out!

Very well. The Bay State worker who did the job, Yuri, was prompt, polite, friendly and very efficient. It took about 2 or 2.5 hours, less time than I had expected, and it now looks great. I would definitely use Bay State again, and I'd request Yuri to do the work if he were available. I'm recommending Bay State Refinishers and Yuri to my friends.

Juan and David arrived on time. David was the trainee and did a terrific job of prepping the bathtub prior to the refinish process being done by Juan. Both were professional and friendly and I appreciated that they kept the work area in and around bathroom tidy and clean as they went along. The full refinish process took just under 3 hours. Before leaving they provided tips on maintaining the finish of my bathtub. I would happily recommend Bay State and technicians Juan and David. Finally, I would like to thank Martha who is the Office Manager, she was so helpful in finding an appointment time that worked with my busy schedule.

Yuri, Darly, and Wagner brought my vision to life. After demolishing the old bathroom and getting the plumbing and electrical updated, they tiled, drywalled, and installed all the fixtures to working order. They also created a knee wall where I was able to have a custom marble cap. I plan to hire again for future work.

Contractor started on schedule and finished most work on schedule. A few items dragged out a couple of extra weeks but bathroom was useable. Yuri was a great foreman and kept us well informed with updates and decisions we needed to make along the way. This was especially important since we were not home during the renovation. The work was done with the highest quality and all workmen used by Baystate were very trustworthy. We used a lockbox and Yuri was mostly on site with the workmen. We had no problems with safety of our home belongings. I would recommend this contractor to anyone doing a remodel of their bathroom or kitchen.

The best recommendation I can give is that they just completed my master bath and I immediately hired them for my guest bathroom! The master bath included a complete demo, with heated floors, a glass shower, and all new fixtures. The entire team is fabulous, went out of their way to accommodate every request (including a difficult condo association) and finished within time and on budget. Our supervisor Yuri is outstanding, and a primary reason we are so satisfied. Darly who did all the tile work is a true artist and all around lovely person. They even did some work on the weekends, and left the space immaculate at the end of each day. They have a full time office staff, and the owner Ray was also responsive to anything we needed. They got all permits, and made sure every single detail was complete before sending the final bill. All around a wonderful experience, which can be pretty rare for contractors!

I can not believe how shiny white my tub is. It is about 70 years old and it sparkles. The process that was used had a slight odor but was very tolerable. Jose was maticulous about all of the multi processes that are involved in refinishing a tub. He answered all my questions about reglazing and was extremely polite and congenial. I truly never imagined an outcome this pretty. I highly recommend Bay State Refinishing & Remodeling. And a special thanks to Jose!

David was very good to work with. He is very responsive, usually responding to text or phone messages within minutes. That was especially helpful in coordinating a complex project with many moving parts that involved making several major decisions along the way as the project progressed. Marcio is very skilled at many aspects of bathroom construction work, including demolition, framing and tiling. He is a very pleasant person to work with and went out of his way to create elements in the bathroom to please us. He was effecient but did not rush to finish tasks, he took his time to make sure everything worked as it should. Similarly, the subcontractors used by Bay State for plumbing, electrical and glass work were very competent tradesmen, clearly used to working in the specialized environment of bathroom remodeling. In the end, I would highly recommend the services of Bay State Remodeling for a bathroom remodeling project. They work as a tight team to get the job done in a timely manner to the customer's satisfaction.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of master bathroom, including demolition of existing bathroom (to the wall studs and floor joists) and re-build of the bathroom to reflect current contemporary aesthetic. We hired Bay State to re-build our master bathroom to reflect the most current contemporary trends and technologies. We had initially discussed the renovation project with Bay State a year prior to undertaking the work. The scope we had initially planned involved a limited scope of work, essentially replacing the 15-year old fixtures and floor and wall tiles with updated products. We decided, however, to undertake a more extensive remodel which involved expanding and reconfiguring the small walk-in shower to substantially increase its dimensions. The planning for the remodel was done in close cooperation with David, the project manager, as well as with Marcio, who handled much of the day-to-day demolition and re-construction of the room along with his capable assistant Ruggerio. After careful planning, we decided to create a very contemporary barrier-free walk-in, "zero threshold" shower with inline glass doors that could easily accommodate handicap-accessible equipment such as a wheelchair while creating a contemporary, spa-like atmosphere in the room. Electric radiant floor heating was installed throughout the room, and the dated spa tub with tiled decking was replaced with a very modern freestanding soaker tub. A new contemporary vanity with double-faucet trough sink was installed (replacing the single-faucet sink) as well as mirrored medicine and linen cabinets . New LED recessed lights were installed to greatly increase the quality of light in the room, and water-resistant ceiling-mounted speakers were installed to provide entertainment. A new bath fan with automatic moisture sensor was also installed.

From the beginning of the project (the first call) to the very end they were the best company. Ray, David, Marcio and A.J. made the entire remodeling project as easy and convenient as possible. After our first call we started with 2 meetings in which I got to meet both the plumber and the electrician and we went over the options and possibilities of the things that could be done, I wanted to remove a portion of a wall in one side and a complete wall in the other one to create more like an open space ambiance. I had old appliances, counters, cabinets and very poor lighting in the kitchen, the electrician suggested to go with the recessed lights and under cabinet lights (which I love) the lighting in my kitchen now is perfect and makes my cooking time more pleasant. I was thrilled that we ended up staying within budget (despite the increased cost of the granite for the counter tops that I choose) I got estimates from 4 companies total and made some research about this companies before we made our final decision, Bay State Refinishing and Remodeling was not the lower or the highest estimate that we received but what we liked since the first day we met is that Ray took his time (almost an hour) to address every single question that I had, he gave me his feedback about few ideas and designs I had and made sure to confirm with the plumber and electrician that we were able to do what we had in mind. The job took exactly as long as they said it would, I was happy with the fact that all inspections were passed at the very first attempt and there was no delays. With my ideas in addition to their suggestions, their vision and experience and the great customer service this company provides I don't believe that someone else would've done a better job than them. It was a true pleasure working with Bay State Refinishing and Remodeling everyone in this company made us feel really comfortable since the very first beginning. No doubt that we will referring to our friends and family this company and that we will be using them in the near future for our bathroom remodeling projects.

BayState did a complete remodel of both kitchen and bath. They provided complete services and worked with me to select all the fixtures. They provided many recommendations. They were also flexible in helping me to make the appropriate choices. They were full of new ideas and had an eye quality in the details. The bath included gutting, install of toilet, sink, new ceiling, walls and flooring, electrical, plumbing, refinishing of the tub, painting, tile work and finish carpentry. The kitchen and dining area included gutting, install of new ceiling, walls, flooring, cabinets, appliances, electrical, plumbing and all finish work. Both came out BEAUTIFUL!!! I have received so many compliments on the work and the design. They handled all the work and the inspections. The work was done in a condo and required observance of the rules and coordination with onsite staff (receiving accolades from those who worked with them). Hands down...among the best contract experiences I have had. I would use these guys again in a second.
Description of Work: Both kitchen and bath were redesigned and striped to the studs. BayState provided services for the design, destruction, framing, plaster, installation of cabinets, fixtures, flooring, ceiling, all plumbing and electrical. All of this was done according to my schedule. The work was completed with perfection and thorough quality.

Overall, we are very pleased. David, the project manager, and Marcio, the day-to-day hands on craftsman, were competent and careful craftsmen, responsive, enjoyable to work with, and very professional. They took pride in their product, made good suggestions about design features, and told us aspects of our plan that would work and advised us against those that would not. After they pulled the work permit, they coordinated all sub-contractors (electrical, plumbing, plasterer, glass shower door maker, etc.) and town inspectors; and, as needed, they retrieved from the stores tiles, paint and the bathroom furniture we purchased. We trusted them with our house key. We met with them a few times per week to answer questions and make minor modifications to our plan (which we had drawn up). They and their co-workers generally worked with great care, used drop cloths throughout and cleaned up very well each day of work; only only significant issue was a careless plasterer, who left excessive drippings that required additional clean up. When a wall paint color we selected on a chip turned out to seem different on the wall, they cheerfully repainted, and they helped by mounting additional fixtures we selected at the end. They held to both schedule and cost. There were no significant surprises.

We had JUST had the master bath remodeled when we had moved in 2 years ago, only to have an ice dam form during the awful 2014/15 winter. Water was pouring down our walls. The original company I used for the remodel was AWFUL. I learned a lot from that remodel, so when we needed the whole project redone, I was very picky in terms of providers. We found Bay State on Angies List, and from the second Ray came in for the quote, I could tell the service was going to be light years different. They were professional, prompt, and found multiple things wrong that the previous company had done incorrectly. Each time, I was informed, but they already had corrective solutions identified, so I never had to really worry. We also needed spray foam and a carpenter to work on our master closet. I had brought in several companies for quotes, as well as had Bay State's suggested companies come in as well. In both scenarios, we ended up going with the Bay State suggestions. In the end, the foam went in without a hitch, and we are now in love with our custom master closet. Also, just to mention, the Bay State team was fantastic. They played and goofed around with my two toddlers daily, were extremely helpful and friendly, and kept the house clean even during the messiest part of the project. I got constant text and email updates, and always knew what was going on when, and what the next steps were.
Description of Work: We had ice dam damage. Bay State removed and replaced all the drywall and plaster from our garage ceiling and walls. In the master bath and master closet, they removed all the drywall, the closet floors, and demoed our shower stall. They completely rebuilt the shower (including updating and fixing plumbing issues), tiling, and drywall/plaster/painting.

If your bathroom remodel doesn’t involve plumbing, consider Bay State. If it does, steer clear. I experienced the following problems with the plumbing done by Bay State: - The bathroom sink faucet leaked upon installation (it was improperly seated), and Bay State’s plumber had to return to reinstall it. It still leaked, and the plumber had to return to reinstall it a third time. - The shower valve was installed upside down—in spite of clear markings on the valve itself—so that water poured out of the faucet and showerhead simultaneously when the water was turned on. The plumber didn’t notice this problem—I discovered it after the bathroom remodel was completely finished. Initially, Bay State’s plumber doubted that an upside-down valve was the issue (although I told him that it probably was, having run into the same problem with a different plumber during a previous remodel), but he agreed that it was after checking the valve. Bay State had to tear out the tiled shower wall, reinstall the valve, and repair and retile the wall. - No temperature limit stop was installed in the reinstalled valve, despite the inclusion of the stop with the valve trim kit (and despite the requirement of such a device by Massachusetts state plumbing code). I discovered this at a later date, and installed the temperature stop myself. - The coupling of a heating pipe was cracked when it was relocated, resulting in water leaking into the kitchen ceiling several months after installation. Bay State’s plumber initially thought the problem was backflow in the tub faucet, then said that it might be condensation. Through a process of trial and error, I figured out that the coupling was the issue. Damaged kitchen ceiling tiles had to be removed, and Bay State had to cut away an approximately 20 x 20-inch section of the wall in a bedroom adjacent to the bathroom to repair the coupling. - We are having our kitchen remodeled by a different contractor. When the kitchen ceiling was removed, both my contractor and his plumber noted that the second-floor bathroom waste plumbing that Bay State installed was improperly pitched. The sink, toilet, and tub waste were pitched backward (away from, as opposed to towards, the main waste pipe—a violation of Massachusetts plumbing code). This was clear to the naked eye, and confirmed using a pitch level. Given this long list, I had zero confidence that Bay State would properly reinstall the waste plumbing, I didn’t want to seal up a brand-new kitchen ceiling, only to have more problems crop up in the future, so I paid my contractor’s plumber to redo the work properly. The reason I’m not giving an “F” grade is because other than the plumbing, the job went well. David, the project manager, and Darly, who did most of the non-plumbing work, were very conscientious and hardworking. Unfortunately, the numerous and avoidable problems with the plumbing have cost me a great deal of time, aggravation, and money, and I can’t help but wonder if other problems will reveal themselves over time. Not what I wanted in a bathroom remodel.
Description of Work: Gut remodel of full bath.

Response from Bay State Remodeling
Response; Thanks for the feedback. Customer satisfaction is our highest priority and we strive to provide the best customer service. Unfortunately in this case the above review does not reflect the actual facts : 1. These are parts from the original review (Score: Overall A) that the customer wrote few days after the job was finished ~ 14 months ago: "The job went as quickly as it possibly could have, and took around five weeks. It was started the day after the scheduled start date (due to an inspection delay on another job, which was understandable), and was interrupted only when Bay State had to wait several days for a city inspection. The crew worked every day, sometimes for more than eight hours. On occasion they showed up a bit later than scheduled, but not to the extent that it was a problem, and would almost invariably complete the work planned for that day. Darly (who did the bulk of the construction and tile work) is one of the hardest-working people I’ve ever met. David (who oversaw the job) was easy to contact—during work hours, he always either picked up his phone or texted me to say that he couldn’t talk but would call as soon as he was available. In my experience, this is rare. He’d also respond quickly to any unforeseen difficulties, helping to solve problems as they arose (including structural repairs and replacement of a portion of the vent stack) in order to keep the job on track. Bay State was sensitive to the fact that they were working on our only bathroom, and did everything they could to get us back in there as soon as possible and in time for the start of the school year...." ".... In many cases, sadly, once a contractor has been paid it’s difficult (sometimes impossible) to get them to come back and correct mistakes. This is emphatically not the case with Bay State. When I told David about the problem, he responded as quickly as usual: within a day...., fixed the problem, and retiled the wall perfectly. They also reimbursed us for a few parts we had to reorder for the fix, plus a bit extra. An honorable solution..." 2. The customer contacted us to do additional kitchen remodeling job in his house after the bathroom remodeling was completed. This is the email: " Ray, How have you been? Well, I hope. We’re looking for quotes for a gut remodel of our kitchen, including the addition of a half bath. We’d like the work to begin in mid-May of next year, and would like to talk to you about the job. Here are the dates and times that we’re available in the near future: Morning (AM) on Wednesday, 12/2/2015 Morning (AM) on Monday, 12/7/2015 Morning (AM) on Wednesday, 12/9/2015 (after 10:30) " 3. We didn't do any other job for the customer 4. ~ 14 months after the job was completed, inspected & signed by city officials: electrical inspector, electrical inspector, building inspector. The customer sent an email claiming that somebody found a "problem with our work" and he demands a check for $900 to be mailed to him. We requested an opportunity to come, take a look, confirm and address it properly but we were never given a chance to inspect the problem. Had we been able to inspect / confirm the problem we would have corrected it at no charge to the customer or reimburse him for any cost (this was emailed to the customer) 5. Despite our numerous attempts asking the customer to give us the opportunity and assess / confirm the problem he refused and ask for money, and we could agree to that 6. Shortly after the customer deleted the previous great review and wrote a new one 7. Angie’s list tried to contact the customer 4 times in order to review this with no success, the customer never contacted them back and unfortunately in this case this false review can't be removed We take pride in our work and are always willing to work through any issue with our customers, however we cannot pay for a problem we were never given even the opportunity to correct ourselves (more than a year after). Please reach out to me directly if we can help you resolve this issue

From the initial home consultation I was very impressed with this provider. Ray was extremely professional, knew what he was talking about, and reassured me that I could rely on their experience and expertise. I felt that I would be in great hands with them. For the project itself, I had the pleasure of working with the project manager, David Zur, and principle craftsman, Marcio Olivera, who both made it clear throughout that my satisfaction (with both the process and the end result) was their top motivation. They told me two months beforehand that they would start work on a particular date, and they actually started on that date exactly. At various points in the process they were great with communication to let me know what was happening and what I should expect. Also, they have a lot of experience having done these projects for years, and they were able present me with options that were often better than what I'd had in mind, explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. If something was going to be additional work over their original estimate, they would explain the cost so I had all the information I needed to make an informed choice. Often times it was for their help in procuring something I hadn't known to get beforehand (ie recess lights and ventilation fan). One time, since I was without a car, they even took me with them to Home Depot to get the last set of things for wall trim and an accent row for the shower tiles. That was extremely helpful since I'm generally lost when it comes to these kinds of things. There were a couple of delays due to problems we discovered with the job done by the vendor I used to get the materials for the bathroom (the sink was the wrong size to fit in the vanity with the faucet behind it - oops!), but once again, they were able to explain the issue, and even directly order the part on my behalf to expedite the process. They are also saints for doing all of this in my condo on the fifth floor of a building without an elevator. At the end of the project, I have a bathroom that looks amazing and I have faith in the quality of the work they've done. I had a lot of trepidation about doing any renovation/remodeling in my home, and this company and these people made it a much better experience than I'd feared it might be. When I'm ready to do my kitchen in a few years, I definitely plan to use them again. I recommend them very highly!
Description of Work: They completely remodeled the 8x6 foot bathroom in my condo. They demolished the old one, put in the new wall framework, added the electric work and the plumbing, handled the inspections, put in the tub, sealed up the walls, put in recess lights and a ventilation fan, put in the tiles, painted the walls, did the grout work, installed the toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet, light fixtures, and shower fixtures. Basically, did the complete remodel of the bathroom.

The bathroom remodel went as well as we could have hoped. David, who managed the project, was always on top of things and would reach out anytime there were questions of any sort. He did a great job coordinating things between plumbers, electrician, inspectors and Bay State's own crew. On top of that, we had another contractor doing roof and siding work at the same time which meant coordinating things with him as well whenever the two jobs overlapped. Most of the work was done by Darly with a lot of help from Edilson. Both were great to work with and are very hard workers who seem to genuinely care about the quality of the work that they do and making the customer happy. I don't think we had any unusual demands, but there were simply number of things that couldn't be anticipated or decided in advance until the old bathroom had been demolished. Personally, I enjoyed the fact that they would try as best they could to accommodate any requests that we had, and would always have suggestions for either how we could make things work or for things that we hadn't thought about. This included bigger decisions such as how to layout the major things (tub area, vanity, toilet and a skylight that the other contractor was installing), as well a smaller things such as tile patterns and the doorstep. Overall, we are very, very happy with the final outcome as we got everything that we could have hoped for on our budget. The pricing seemed very fair, not only for the original estimate but also for any additional work that we added. David, Darly and Edilson as well as the plumbing and electrical sub contractors that they used were all friendly, professional and competent, which made for a great experience.
Description of Work: Complete gut renovation of a full bathroom. The work included structural work such as fixing floor joists and framing in a new window, plumbing, electrical, and all finish work such as plastering, painting and tiling.

I didn't even know this kind of service could be done and only found out about it while talking to a real estate agent. This one thing is what was preventing us from listing our house for sale. Needed a rush job on getting bathtub and tiles reglazed and called and messaged a lot of companies. One company couldn't come out for 1-2 months, another for over two weeks. I messaged Bay State Refinishing & Remodeling here on Angie's List and Martha immediately responded and asked me to call them. She was super professional, positive, and helpful. She understood I needed it done yesterday and we did the estimate over the phone so we could move right into the scheduling. Initially my appointment was for April 15 and I asked her to keep me in mind if there were any cancellations. A few hours later Martha calls to tell me that yes, there was a cancellation and they could do the work the following day. Lucky me! The appointment was scheduled for Thursday, April 7, 2016 for between 8-10am. Russell showed up as scheduled, looked over the tub and tile and we briefly discussed specifics before he got to work. The final result was a tub and tiles that seriously look brand new. I couldn't be happier! Be sure to keep your windows open and fans on as the fumes are quite strong, but it does dissipate significantly by the next day. Russell was a professional and friendly technician who did an outstanding job. Best part was that the price that was quoted, $895, turned out to be more than what was needed and I only paid $795. How often in your life do you have someone come to your home to do work and they charge you less than you expected? I would absolutely not hesitate to recommend Bay State Refinishing & Remodeling based on the company's eagerness to work with customers, professional employees, and great pricing. If you are looking for great work from a company you can trust, this is the company to call.

Bay State promptly and competently refinished my bath tub. I wish they had told me to have my bathroom spic and span before their visit; where my sconces, mirror frame, and upper tile ridges were dusty, the spray from their refinishing products seemed to bond with the dust, making the surfaces impossible to clean. When they re-caulked the tub, there were some cracks between the tile and the caulk, but I did not want to make a fuss and so did not let them know. Overall despite these quibbles I was happy with the job until a few months ago when I spotted a small chip on one of the tub's inner side walls. Eventually a hand-sized patch of the refinished surface peeled off. I have followed Bay State's detailed care instructions meticulously, but they have failed to respond to my calls and emails about how they will deal with this problem under their warranty. On January 11 of this year they told me they would contact me soon to schedule a fix (this was in response to my third query). When I wrote again on March 2, they told me they would get back to me before the end of the next day. I haven't heard from them since. Given the fact that the finish failed and they have not helped me despite my repeated efforts and months of patience, I would not hire them again.

Response from Bay State Remodeling
Hello [Member Name Removed], I'm apologizing for any inconvenience. As I explained over the phone a ticket was opened in our CRM system to schedule the visit in order to address this issue but unfortunately because of a technical issue it was not transferred the scheduling module and it was missed. I will call you again and will email you as well in order to see what we can do for you, if needed we will even come and re-do the tub completely free of charge. I want to assure you that you were not ignored and this technical issue which caused this problem already was addressed and fixed by our tech support company. Please contact us back either by phone or email and give us the opportunity to provide a remedy for this thing. I hope to hear from you soon. Ray

Jose called 15 minutes before they were due to arrive and he and Yuri arrived exactly when they said they would. The carefully and methodically prepared the tub and covered everything else in the bathroom. They told us exactly what they were going to do and upon completion, they told us how to care for the tub. They were friendly, courteous and professional. The tub looks great and the bathroom was left extremely clean, One more thing: Martha was the woman I spoke with when I originally contacted Baystate. She was very friendly and professional. She took the time to listen and patiently answered every question that I had. I highly recommend this company and would certainly use them again.

Yuri and Jose did the work. They were punctual, worked for around 4 hours. Did a great job (although I still need to wait for 24 more hours until it is dry and ready to use). They were extremely neat and careful with the surroundings. They explained how to follow up with the bathtub care. They were friendly and respectul. Really, for the price charged, the company should provide the caulking that needs to be applied once the paint is dry! Come on guys!
