Imagine it's 9pm, dark, raining and extremely muddy. Now imagine your electrician is working outside in the dark with a headlamp laying conduit in your yard to make sure that the job gets done in time. If you want this type of personal service than look no further than Bob Downey. He really is an amazing electrician. After Bob wired our whole house a year and a half ago, we hired him to complete some exterior electrical work which needed to be done on a tight schedule since we were having siding and landscaping work done at the same time and everything needed to be coordinated. The quote was very fair and Bob was sure to explain each part in detail. He gave a lot of good recommendations for ways to do parts of the job better and made recommendations based on what he would do in his home. He replaced a number of exterior garage fixtures and relocated an outlet. Our siding contractor damaged a number of exterior outlets that Bob had installed the year before and Bob fixed them for free! We were so appreciative of this. Finally, since the trenching for some conduit was not complete when he first came, he came back in the early evening in the dark and in the rain to finish laying some pipe outside. This had to be done by the following day when the landscapers were burying it so Bob came and completed the job without complaint and with good spirits the whole time. The neighbors who saw the work being done couldn't believe it (and asked for his name)! You won't be disappointed if you contact Bob and hire him to do your electrical work!

We purchased an older home (built in1929) that was in need of a complete electrical overhaul, part of an extensive set of renovations we did over a 10 week period. We hired others (Auburndale Builders as contractor, ProWindows for Windows) etc separately and found almost everybody on Angie's list (see other reviews). We had a 2 week old baby and were planning on moving in 10 weeks, necessitating finding a great electrician to do the electrician part of the project quickly but who cared deeply about quality. We contacted 4 electricians and Jim Morrissey was one of two that we were interested in working with after the initial consult. He came on time and was very responsive to all of our questions. He worked very hard with us at coming up with and then repeatedly revising a complex list of services to be performed. He was also helpful at negotiating bits and pieces of the contract to make things more affordable. The contract was nicely itemized which made pricing easy to understand. He arrived on time to get the work started with his team including his electrician Bob Downey who essentially performed the entire project. Bob was always on time throughout the whole project and arrived when he said he would. The one miscommunication we had was that we originally were given the impression that Jim would do the work himself/be on the job site, but it turned out that this didn't happen. In any event, Bob did an absolutely fabulous job. He was very knowledgeable and skilled and communicated very well with us during the whole job. He patiently explained things to us that we didn't understand. Just like with any complex renovation, there were a few small rough spots in terms of communicating with the other workers (contractor team, painter, etc) that we had hired ourselves as part of the larger job, but nothing that a simple phone call here or there couldn't resolve. In general, despite these tiny rough spots, we would say that Bob did an above average job at coordinating with our other workers and with the town of Wellesley which was necessary to complete parts of the job. He was always reachable by phone and returned calls right away. Jim was harder to get in touch with during the project which was a bit frustrating. Everything was completed on time which involved the work described above, plus a number of add-ons that we added. One excellent aspect of working with Jim and Bob is that add-ons were fairly priced and items removed from the original contract were credited. We appreciated this very much. The project took ~9 weeks and cost ~$27,000. Everything was done professionally and expertly. Bob took great care not to damage our walls excessively which we appreciated. Bob is a great guy, very personal and friendly. When my dad introduced himself to Bob as "Jesse's father" Bob responded and said "I'm Jesse's electrician." Bob and I shared pictures of our kids during the project. This was indicative of the type of wonderful personal service that we received which we very much appreciated. We have already recommended Bob and Jim to several friends and would use them in a heartbeat in the future. Thanks so much guys, we couldn't have done it without you!
