We hired Bob to update our 30-year old bathroom, we've used him for years for our home in Andover w/ excellent results. Wife Paula had some significant requirements, Bob delivered: the quality of the tile in the shower, the care and attention to the final finish work, his suggestions were excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend him to others, and he'll be back for our next home improvement.

We hired Bob to convert a formal living room into a bedroom, with the building of a closet, adding electrical outlets, recessed lights, and installing doors. While we were at it, we had him install a bathroom fan and run the venting. I am very happy with his work and am already moving forward with additional work on the house with him.

Bob was responsive and reassuring. I reached out to him through Angie’s List. He responded within a couple of days and set up time for the estimate. Once we agreed to the pricing, it was within a week that I had a start date. Throughout the process, Bob was great at communicating the progress of the damages and work to be done. At one point, there was a large opening into my home because of all the damaged wood that needed to be replaced. His team of folks were wonderful; respectful and courteous throughout the project. Bob and his team were great at explaining and teaching me where the damage started, the work to repair the area, and what to look for moving forward. At the end of each night’s work, the area was cleaned up. There were no signs there was construction happening besides the work in progress. The work was completed within the timeframe agreed upon. This was very important as I had to make special arrangements to be able to work from home. Overall, I am very satisfied with the work completed and the experience. I will definitely contract with Bob in the future for projects.

Bob and team did a fantastic job pouring new concrete and installing new bulkhead doors. The existing bulkhead was a mess, Bob created a new structure to perfection. I would use Bob again in a heartbeat.

Bob and Scott did an excellent job as did their sub-contractors. Everyone was polite and professional, They cleaned up after they did their part of the project, and answered all of our questions during the project. Bob is very conscientious and made sure all work was done to our satisfaction. He and Scott went out of their way to address any issue that came up. Most importantly he returns phone calls the same day. He was available after the job was done to answer any questions we had. We would hire Bob again for any work we would want done on our house.

We are very pleased with Bob's work. We hired Bob and his associate Scott to rebuild the supporting columns around our garage doors, which were in serious disrepair. We also need the screen porch to be straightened up and properly reattached to the house, along with replacing rotted boards and a staircase up to the back deck, which was disconnected from the house and very unstable. Bob was great to work with and communicating with us throughout the job in terms of how he was conducting the repairs and what he was finding. He proposed cost-effective solutions that did not compromise on safety and workmanship. He worked diligently each day, despite some bad weather conditions, to complete the job efficiently and within budget. We would happily hire Bob again for future projects.

Bob did an excellent job. He jacked up our back deck to install footings to prevent sagging. He then installed a beautiful craftsman-style front door (including reframing, installing a new threshold, etc.). He subsequently installed railing leading up to the main door and roman columns. It came out perfect. Also important to note is the care Bob took to cover everything up inside the house to make sure the work he was doing didn't dirty our furniture or floors. He came in on budget and was clear about what was included and excluded in the price. He was very responsive and even helped with additional asks and add-ons (like adding a Ring doorbell). Bob didn't consider the job done until we were 100% satisfied. Bob is a hard-working and dedicated professional. I would definitely hire him again.

We were very pleased with Bob's work at my family member's home. He came in and assessed the job, explained what needed to be done and what materials he would need and advised a time frame. While working on the house he noted additional areas needing repair, and took the care to correct those as well; making sure everything was done precisely. We wanted to fix a leaking old brick front wall and also a rotten basement bulkhead. Bob was recommended to us by a local business. He gave us a very honest estimation that included many possible scenarios, his assesment and recommendations. We were so blessed to hire Bob and his team because the job, that seemed not too complicated at start, turned into an emergency rescue of our front wall. The bulkhead is looking like a piece of art. Bob, together with his reliable team, did a phenomenal job. Bob is the most caring, professional, knowledgeable, honest and trustworthy contractor I've ever hired. He is working on your house as if it were his own! The results were astonishing and way beyond our expectations.

We were referred to Bob from other Andover customers; Bob did a phenomal job at replacing the 15-yar old pine outside trim for the entire exterior and rebuidling our Front Door Portico. He was very knowledgeable, easy to work with, and produced a great end-product which looks better than the original structure. His attention to detail was phenomenal. We will invite him back in 2019, and do not hesitate to recommend him.

Bob Batchelder and his team replaced three sets of large custom casement windows in the bedrooms of our condo in the fall of 2018. Summary: He did a terrific job and we’d hire him again in a heartbeat. Details follow. We connected with him in late spring of 2018 and liked him immediately. When he came to see the job in preparation for a quote, we thought he sounded very knowledgeable and was very pleasant. It turned out he had done some work for an organization where we knew people, and they commented that his work had been great. His quote came in at a fair range, and we hired him. He provided all the information we need to get approval from our condominium association and subscribed to the “measure twice” school since our windows were not “off the shelf” at all. He got all the details right, including the hardware and screens we wanted. When installation week began, he opened and checked all the windows – they were correct except Andersen Window Co. had left out flanges, which are always part of the package. This was not Bob’s fault. He went out of his way to get flanges expedited to us. Andersen was not too helpful, but Bob was, and he was thorough, as well. He explained why he did not want to do a workaround without the flanges, and we agreed. It delayed the job a week, but he did not desert us and take on anything else big during the wait. The minute the flanges arrived, he was back here installing the windows. Bob can fix anything and knows so much about construction after working for decades in general contracting. His work ethic is top notch. We enjoyed having him around our home. He cleaned up well every day and everything worked out well. We highly recommend him and his work.

The word "exemplary" is appropriate here. Bob is not only a true craftsman but an artist, with the finest attention to detail I have ever seen. As well, his compadres are the same. Once the walls and ceilings were opened up, it was apparent a lot of repair work was required, which Bob handled with an undaunting enthusiasm. The original construction was comprised here in many areas of repurposed, flimsy wood (or more accurately tree bark) which had rotted over the years so we were basically supported over the basement with very little to rely on. Due to the sudden and unexpected complexity of the project it went from an estimated time of one month to three months and Bob handled it all as if he had had this same challenge many times before and he probably has. As well, he made sure he explained and showed me everything he was doing, with pictures and video to my phone and evening and even weekend visits. He didn't deconstruct but reconstructed everything by adding new wood to what was already in place to give the structure reliability and integrity. He also drilled into the basement floor and added a lally column to hold everthing up and added new support joists to the second floor ceiling to add a 2 1/2" raise and support for a sagging roof. He consulted a structural engineer to be sure everything was done right. He also pointed out (with understandable satisfaction) previous projects that were done incorrectly and corrected what he could. For floors, electrical, paint and plumbing we had a mixture of his people and a few I chose but Bob coordinated all their efforts to be sure they worked in synchronization. He even fixed my bicycle...what else can I say?

Bob and Cory are excellent to work with. Bob knows what he is doing, knows the latest codes and most importantly he knows how to fix it. My job was the opposite of glorious, it was to dig in a crawl space and install 6 footings to raise the interior of my house since it was sinking. Additionally he added insulation and cleaned the crawl space, leaving it in better shape than when he started. Bob not only did a great job installing the footings and columns, he really takes pride in his work. He was careful in raising the floor as to not ruin the kitchen or bathroom. Bob and Cory are really easy to work with and the price is reasonable. I would work with them again in the future.

We contacted several contractors for quotes and ultimately went with Bob Batchelder. He was responsive to my request to come out for a quote and continued this throughout the duration of the job. He gave a fair and justified price for the job up front as well as was willing to discuss the reasons for the costs and his approach to the work. He told us up front that the price may change if there were no concrete footers under the existing columns (which we suspected there were not given the age of the house), and then was very clear on the amount of time and money to put them in once he confirmed they were in fact missing. He managed all of the necessary permits and inspections in our town and completed the work in the time frame he estimated. Overall he and his assistant Corey were very professional and kind, and I would absolutely recommend him and plan to use him again for future projects at our home.

Bob helped us out of our very difficult situation by working with the inspectors in our town to make sure everything was done correctly and by the book. His work is extremely high quality. His price is fair because you are paying for good work and he sticks to it with no big surprises at the end. He made our basement look beautiful! Everyone who comes over can not believe the transformation. We added two small rooms and a full bath. We also really appreciated the work of his assistants, Cory, and the tiler, Toni. We only wish we had started with him in the beginning.

Working with Bob was a very positive experience. He's very professional, offers great advice on project design, and won't cut any corners.

Bob and Corey were fantastic. Their work was thorough and really well done. Bob will explain everything he is doing and why he is doing what he is doing. They completed a completely new deck and stairs for my side entrance to my house, and fixed the garage inside and out. He contracted out the garage door replacement and some of the siding work, that work was well done too. The work they did looks 100% better than the originally damaged garage/steps. He is very responsive to phone calls and he and Corey were generally nice people to work with. They spent time doing the work correctly vs. rushing to just get it done and moving to the next job. I am not easily pleased, but they deserve this review and I look forward to working with them again in the future.

Both of my upstairs bathrooms were in terrible shape, but I had no idea how terrible until Bob gutted them. Bob walked me through every step of the way, pressured his subcontractors to come in and get the work done, showed up exactly when he said he would, and never, ever disappeared to work on someone else's job,. Because I had so much water damage, there was much more work than I anticipated, but I never for an instant felt that Bob was doing work that didn't needed to get done. He made sure that everything he did was necessary. Bob is so honest and decent. The bathrooms are so well made and beautiful. I always felt that I got what I paid for -- excellent work. Thank you, Bob.

The finished job is outstanding and the entire experience was very positive.

It was superior like in the name. Bob comes when he says, does phenomenal work. IT isn't the cheapest we have ever has, but fair for sure. finishes and starts on time. He negotiates with insurance companies and gets a fair value. I would highly recommend them.

He said it would be about two weeks until he could get a bid to us since he was busy, and asked us to call to remind him. So we called him after a week and a half and refreshed his memory. He said he would get the bid to us within a week, but it never came. So we called him again, he again said he would get it to us, and again it never came. Called him one last time and he said end of the week for sure. We asked, Is that a promise, Bob? And he said, yes, that's a promise. Again, no bid. We got another contractor who has been out and has given us a bid in a more professional and timely manner.

Initially responsive, but failed to make first meeting, for which I left early from work to discuss project. He said he forgot, and then after seeing it, promised swift response with estimate, but failed that. Promised again to get it to me soon, but never did. And finally never responded to repeated requests. This kind of service is prevalent in the building climate today, which I absolutely don't understand. I've lost 45 days of a working window due to this lack of baseline service. Would never recommend.

Bob Batchelder is an amazing contractor. I can't imagine a better choice for a homeowner looking to get the most value for their investment. At first glance he's not the cheapest, but when we compared his proposal to those from other respected builders, we found that he had included contingency amounts (fully refundable if not needed) for plumbing and electrical problems he anticipated in bringing our 90 year old home up to code. His proposal also assumed quality materials and methods appropriate to our home and market, where others had cut corners. He won't try to up-sell you with trivial enhancements, but he insists on quality and is not willing to produce a sub-standard result. During the course of our project Bob proposed cost effective ways to fix other problems and make other improvements. He wasn't pushing to increase the project scope, but hate's to ignore problems that can be fixed more cheaply during construction than later. For example, after tearing out the ceiling of our downstairs bathroom he noticed that the slope of the now exposed upstairs bathtub drain was too shallow by several degrees and would not drain properly. We confirmed that it had been a problem for years. He saw the problem, his plumber fixed it easily, and our monthly draino budget has gone to zero. We have numerous similar examples of things he fixed or improved because he is experienced, alert, and cares about quality. Scheduling: Through the worst winter Boston has seen Bob kept our project on track. The success was in part because he's an experienced planner, realistic, honest with himself and his customers, and driven to deliver. If he says he can do it, he will. His network of experienced tradesmen is another success factor for him. They want to work with him. They know he expects quality work, and they appreciate the opportunity to do things right. They call him "Quality Bob"! They know he meets his schedule commitments and expects them to do the same. They show up on time and do excellent work. Bottom Line: Bob is a great craftsman and problem solver, and he's a fun to work with. My wife and I are always happy to see him. How many people can say that about their contractor? But in the end for Bob it's about delivering value. Everyone who's seen our remodeled home is blown away by the result. Everything is square, everything lines up, there are no squeaks or mistakes we have to look at and try to forget. If we sold today I'm convinced we'd get back every penny we've invested and then some, but the house is so nice now we have trouble thinking that way. By the way, with respect to those contingency amounts in the proposal, Bob was a little high on plumbing and a little low on electrical. It was a wash. The other contractors would have presented these as unanticipated expenses necessary to meet current building codes. With Bob there were no surprises.
