Affordable Painting

I never take the time to write reviews, but with Affordable Painting, it is my pleasure for such a great group of guys! They went above and beyond what they agreed to do. They arrived on time at 7:30 every day, were neat, professional, pleasant, better priced than most of the others and worked until they were finished. They started with the task of painting my cathedral ceiling bedroom and they did a great job. Being nice guys, they even dusted my fan and changed the light bulbs for me. Then I asked them back to paint the kitchen and bath. I used supreme white paint which made my once-white vinal coated cabinets in the bathroom look yellow. I was certain I now needed new cabinets. Affordable Painting was confident they could help and offered to paint them white for me. I was a little hesitant, but they did their thing and the cabinets came out amazing! I'll have them back in the spring for more!!

I waited many years before I decided to paint all the rooms in my townhouse and install new carpet. I'm retired and knew this would be a big undertaking. So I decided to do it all at one time. This way I would pack the glassware, move things, etc., once instead of twice. I had no idea who to hire for these two big jobs, so I decided to join Angie's List. I looked up painters in my area and interviewed several painters who had excellent ratings on Angie's List. I finally had three painters that I liked and had to pick one----I chose Affordable Painting in Billerica, MA. During the interview with Affordable Painting I explained what I expected from them. This included preparing the walls for painting, which included filling in any holes and sanding them down, sanding/smoothing down any ?bumps? (and there were many), etc...they promised this would all be done. Finally, the first day of painting arrived. Three people arrived to do the work. After they left that day, I looked over their work and knew I had hired the wrong painter! Oh, from a distance it all looked OK. But on closer inspection, the walls were not prepped for painting. They painted over the bumps on the walls, where there were holes from curtain rods, etc. they plugged up the hole but didn't sand it down...you can see where the hole was, etc. They didn't use tape before they started painting, so I found paint on things that shouldn't. There were even areas where you could see the previous paint used. I called Affordable Painting and explained what I found and they promised to correct everything the next day. I was in tears the next day...I was very upset. I'm spending a lot of money for this paint job....$2,300. I feel like they ?yah'd me to death.? Not only did they not ?fix? everything downstairs (you would think seeing me so upset, they would have really concentrated on doing a great job upstairs), but they did another ?half a**? job upstairs...same as downstairs. I couldn't believe it. I was flabbergasted!! I showed them what I wanted corrected and they yah'd me again.....?we're here to please and will fix whatever you want.? Why didn't they just do it right the first time around? They knew I was upset about their paint job on the first floor! I did something very stupid.....I paid them in full. I was so flabbergasted, I didn't know what else I could say.....it just wasn't sinking in. Or maybe it did, and they thought what's this ?old lady? going to do? There are other things I have not included in this email. Like when I called Affordable Painting about fixing these 2 holes behind my end table and he showed up with some Spackle and a hair dryer, instead of filling the hole and coming back the next day to sand down the area, and repaint, etc. Update 3/4/2014: Yes, you went over the areas you felt like going over just to calm me down. And I paid you in full because during the paint job you kept doing a "half-ass" job and by the last day I just wanted you out of my house. I knew that no matter what I said or pointed out, it was going in one ear and out the other. I couldn't stand the fact that no matter what I pointed out was wrong, you kept going your merry old way of doing things. It wasn't just a few areas (there shouldn't have been any!) I wasn't pleased with. I tried to tell you this several times after you painted the first floor. And that's what you did...just paint. Your written estimate said "patch holes, sand, and prep walls for painting. What happened to doing that? I don't know how many times I have to point this out......this was not done! You just painted over everything. The fact that you even admitted in your response that you had to come back to patch some holes should tell you something....the job was not done properly. Obviously your customers aren't "happy," they just want to get rid of you like I did, realizing they made a mistake in their choice of painter. As for ringing the doorbell and me not answering......I waited all day for him to come and by 4:30 pm I figured he wasn't coming and decided to take a shower. He did not specify a time of arrival. I did apologize for that, and don't know why he's harping on it. Next time tell a person when to expect you. As for leaving his customer on happy terms, that's his word against theirs/mine.

He and his son painted the trim and some walls.. We were not living there at the time because of the work that needed to bedone.I went on weekends and some week days to see the progress.I noticed that none of the areas we discussed had been fixed, instead they were just painted.We communicated this and I said I would tape the areas that were not fixed and asked him to repair it when they came back to finish.. He said he would address the issues.They came back and basically took all the tape off the walls.. NOTHING WAS DONE. so due to time constraints and the fact that he clearly wasn't going to repair the walls, we were forced to hire another contractor to fix it. The new contractor quoted $2875.00 to repair the work.. we had him fix it. Quick estimate, on-time delivery, excellent quality. Highly recommended and will definitely use them again for future projects.

I have no doubts about Affordable Painting's ability to do an excellent job.

I boought a Big Deal for an interior painter for the day. It took a while to get a time scheduled but once they came they did a nice job.

Our painter, Rob, really provided exceptional service. You can tell that he takes great pride in his work and he did a meticulous job. Rob was also very considerate of our furnishings and he was careful to put things back in place. He arrived on time every day and worked around our schedule. We planning on having him come back to paint two other rooms later this year. A+

Excellent job by the team at Affordable Painting. The quote was reasonable, they were on time and exceptionally courteous. The work was great and we were delighted with the results.

Affordable Painting came and did a good job. It was quite awhile after I purchased the Big Deal. The Big Deal was expired, but he extended it for me. They were efficient and clean. They just got the work done. It was fine. It was interesting, though, because I had bought it because there was painting that needed to be done at my condo and when I called to arrange for that, the father answered the phone. I thought they worked in Boston when I bought it, because there was some water damage that needed to be repaired in a hallway. I just wanted to get that hallway repainted when I bought the Deal. Then he said he didn't go into the city. So, then, I said "Oh." And basically had him come into my house in Walden, but that caused me to have to clear out a whole area that I really wasn't planning on clearing out. Basically, getting painting done that I really wasn't thinking about doing, but it got done. It was funny, because the son came out and actually did the work and he said, "Oh, I go into Boston. I would have done that job." So, it was kind of interesting. He said his father won't go into Boston, but I go in. He worked the day and he did a good job.It was fine. I didn't know how much work he would get done in a day, so I cleaned out my downstairs hallway and I cleaned out my bedroom. I had the paint all ready for him and stuff. So, I basically painted along with him, together we got both rooms done. They were very amenable because I couldn't fit it into their time frame, so they extended it beyond the deadline. It was supposed to expire in December and I just couldn't get it done so they extended the time frame for activation until afterwards, which was nice of them.

He was great and unbelievable. He did everything by eye and was very efficient. He completed an 8 hour project in 3 hours. I would reccomend him to anyone.

After a resent fire at our home, we had to have our first floor repainted. The home was built in the early 30's so there was wallpaper over wallpaper under layers of paint. Mark and Robert did and awsome job repairing the walla and wood work. They were very clean, cerdious, and very professional! They matched the 3 diffrent colors of paint perfectly. They did an overall outstanding job! I would recommend them to anyone!

We called for a quote. They arrived precisely on time and performed the inspection in just a few minutes. It was affordable that pointed out some areas that could use a bit of repair (a couple of fine cracks, an old water-damaged area, and gaps between the wallboard and the radiator panels. We got the quote via email later that same day. It was very reasonable. We originally scheduled the work out a few weeks, as we did not have any pressing need to get the work done immediately and this was a busy time for them. Some days after this, they let us know that an opening had appeared in their schedule, and would we like to get the job done sooner. We agreed, having already selected a paint color, and the work was scheduled a few days hence. They arrived exactly when they said they would. They performed the repairs on the first day, covering all surfaces to catch any dust that might be generated. They worked very quickly and quietly, cleaning up all materials before they left for the day. They returned the next day at the same time, and did all of the painting. Again, they covered all surfaces that might be dripped on, and cleaned up afterward. They were done by mid afternoon. The paint was a relatively quick-drying variety with very low emission. There was very little paint smell. The results were fantastic. The walls were beautifully smooth and even, and the annoying gaps at the radiator panels had been closed up seamlessly. You could not detect where they had fixed the minor cracks and water damage. There was no dust anywhere, and no drips. The seams with the ceiling were very crisp. They even painted into all the closets (we had emptied them the night before in the hopes that they might do so. Even though that was not in the original contract, they did it without question and without altering the price. Overall, I was delighted with the whole experience. I highly recommend them for anyone on the list who is looking to get some interior painting done.

We worked with their available dates & set a time for them to come do the work. We needed to remove curtains & move some things out of the downstairs to prepare for the painting. The morning they were supposed to arrive, the owner called to tell us they decided to do someone else's job that day & he had no other openings that week. He would not keep his word regardless of the fact that we had arranged to be home, had moved tons of stuff to prepare for the painting & were hosting a party in a few days. His crew arrived as scheduled the next week and did a good basic job of painting the ceilings. With the discount rate and the fact that our ceilings got painted, we gave them a decent rating. Having them back out of a scheduled date that morning was unprofessional.

They were very fair priced, done on time, very professional. It was a father and son team I believe, and I was very satisfied. I would give them five stars.

This deal worked out very well. They did great painting work and were on time and responsive.

Great experience. Bob promptly returned my call and came to do the estimate. Within no time I had a written estimate. They were able to fit me in right away and arrived promptly at 8am as promised. A job well done. I would hire them again and referred them to a friend already!

Did an excellent job in preparation, sanding, patching, before applying paint

Bob and his son Mark arrived at 7:30am on the button, as promised. I had already cleared out the rooms of most of the furniture to try and make it easier for them. They got to work immediately after confirming a few details in one of the rooms. Mark brought up a large shop vac and held the hose in place as he sanded, not a spot of dust was left in the room. So pleased. Both rooms were done by 12:50 pm much sooner than I thought, figured it would be a full 8 hour day. Bob and Mark, were incredibly professional, I hardly knew they were in the house, and when they left you would have never known I just had work done, except for the smell of freshly painted walls :). Spit, spot clean. I highly recommend Bob and Mark to anyone. I am planning on using them again in the future, hopefully sooner than later depending on my house budget. I love my newly painted rooms.

A+++ I will definately call this company again and plan to when the next phase of my remodeling is done hopefully next month. In early November I checked Angies List for a contractor to convert my garage to living space. After getting frustrated with delays and estimates and just not being able to make a deciision my wife and I decided that we needed some fast relief and decided to paint almost every room in our house before the construction starts. I was at the gas station and saw a painters van come in to get gas so I wrote the # and called for and estimate. They came out a day later and the price was too high. Then I checked Angies List and found Affordable Painting in Billerica. Bob answered the phone at about 7:30pm. I though I was going to get an answering machine and was pleasantly surprised when he answered. I explained what I was looking for. Bob sent his son Mark out to give us an estimate the next day as promised. I was getting a good vibe while I was talking to Bob and got the same vibe from Mark the next day when he came for the estimate. Since my wife and I were anxious to have some kind of work done in our home NOW we asked when could he start if we chose their company. Originally he said about a week. Mark later called me back that night and said he could start Monday due to a last minute cancellation of another job. We accepted. I told him that we only wanted to use Benjamin Moore paint (being the best available) and he directed us to his supplier in Burlington, MA. We paid for the paint there so there was no mark up on paint. The price I paid Affordable Painting was for their labor only. I was amazed at how just a few colors could transform my home. I will definately be calling these guys back. And yes they did call me a couple days later to make sure that we were happy with their work. I will and have been recommending these guys to evryone I know.

I contacted the company to set up a date for interior painting and was told that they were backed up for more than a month. I asked that the contact me when a date became available, They never contacted me.

Although they gave me my money back, it was a waste my time. They said they could handle calcimine paint over the phone but when the son came to paint The ceiling it was clear he really could not. He said it was likely it would make a mess and peel off and be worse than it was now. It seem like a waste of his time and my money. He tried to talk me into doing other work my house but I kept telling them I have none. I asked if I can get my money back and he said it have to check with his father and he did and they said I could and I did get it back. I appreciate getting my money back but I think it was a waste of my time to wait for an appointment and to walk around my house with someone who wasn't able to do the work when I had asked for them directly. I shouldn't have been assured that it would not be a problem if it was just going to end up being a problem. I believe this is partly a problem of the big deal process because there are so many deals the vendors don't want to come out and look ahead of time. This means that you wait for long period of time not knowing if they really understand the situation clearly. You may also be buying materials upfront some of which you may not even be able to return it doesn't work out. Some of the big deals clearly stated that you shouldn't call the company directly but if you don't do you know if your job is appropriate. It also means that you may have no idea how long the job might take and if you only have four or eight hours you may end up paying full price for many more hours, if the job takes longer.

Conversations with the company were friendly, professional, and pleasant. Had some difficulty getting an actual appointment on their calendar. Took about 4 phone calls. The service man arrived promptly. He was a pleasure to deal with. He was very courteous and very flexible with our multiple requests. Unfortunately the quality of the final product fell short of our expectations.

Overall, it went well. They showed up to view the job and got the quote to me promptly. I asked them to revise the quote (initially had asked for the trim, ceiling and walls but decided against having trim done) which they did and I accepted after getting a ridiculously high quote from another highly rated Angie's List painter. Affordable's quote was literally half of what this other company wanted to charge me. Anyway, I had a specific time frame for the work to be done and they were able to meet that time frame. They showed up on time, worked hard, were polite and did a great job.

Fine, professional job. Painter very knowledgable about his craft.
