The first electrician that came out could not find the problem, and was going to run a new wire to fix the outlet, which was fine with us. His plan was to come back the next day, but we were then informed they'd been sending someone else. A week or so later, they sent TWO electricians. They performed the exact same diagnostics as the first, only to do exactly what the first electrician did. The cost for "parts", so to speak, was less than $30. For the labor, it was $700. Totally unacceptable in this case. Three electricians add up, but we were charged for someone not being able to figure out the problem...twice (three times, really, considering the second visit was two electricians)...when the first guy could have fixed it. I understand that employing the services of licensed electricians is expensive, but that was outrageous to fix an outlet. We recently finished our entire basement and our GC hired a sub - for all electricity, heating, 15 can lights, and some additional work it was about $3K, and the electrician was wonderfully nice and prompt. Note - "grade" for professionalism was due to how I felt the company handled it. Each of the electricians who came by was very. very nice.

I gave [removed members name] a estimate for some electrical work on 9/17/2013. Never did the work for Alan because he was a Demanding and Argumentative type of person. I find it funny that 6 months later he writes a review on my company. [removed members name] said our Quality of work was a B. Pretty good for not working for him. I guess I don't have to say no more.

The electrician was a little late but was very professional. He didnt have all i needed in the van, i also decided at the kast minute to add a dimmer to the switch, so he went to the local hardware store to get what we needed. I was very happy with the work. I will certainly use them again.

The tech did a very profession job. He also had to do a little creative work to get the fixture to fit perfectly. It was so nice to come back in the afternoon to do the job after I purchased the light kit.
Description of Work: The tech came to the house and told me I could not reinstall a chandelier I had taken down to put up a ceiling fan. Suggested the type of light kit I needed. I went out and purchased it and he gracefully fit me in that same afternoon!

oWe were in the process of selling our home in Newburyport, MA. We had lived there only two years and were obtaining the final certifications for the closing/sale. The last certificate on the list was for the smoke and CO alarm inspection. Since the previous sellers had replaced all the alarms and had re-wired them only two years prior, we hadn't expected any difficulties with this inspection from the Newburport Fire Department. Well..... we were wrong. When they arrived and tested the system they informed us that during the last few months there had to have been some type of electrical problem because although each smoke alarm worked individually, they weren't "talking" to each other as they should have. We failed that inspection and only had three days to have this problem resolved and get re-inspected. First I called our regular electrician who hung chandeliers and installed under the counter lighting for us - surprise - he was too busy to get to us. Then I called Keenan Electrical and the owner called me back that same afternoon. I explained our challenging situation and he was understanding and glad to help. He came out to our home, located the problem; a short in the system. He corrected the problem, replaced the smoke alarms, WENT TO THE STORE to get us the necessary CO alarms and batteries!! He went above and beyond the call of duty to be sure we would get our certification and we will absolutely use him in the future in our new home!

Our furnace was blasting heat non-stop on one of our floors, so we called an HVAC specialist to come look at it. He was bogged down with another job, so he ended up sending Dave in his place to see whether our issue was electrical. Dave showed up after 8:00 in the evening, and, despite the late hour, was in good spirits. He was able to determine that one of the valves was blocked mechanically (and that there was nothing electrically wrong with it), explaining the entire time how the system works. He went ahead and electrically disconnected the faulty valve and clearly labeled everything so that the HVAC guy (who has the part in stock) can easily re-wire it when he comes back tomorrow. Dave left without asking for any money (and turned me down when I asked if I could pay him). He was super professional and knowledgeable, and I'd highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Dave diagnosed a problem with our furnace, electrically disconnected the problematic valve, and got everything set up for easy replacement of the part by an HVAC specialist the next day.

A storm with winds sustained at over 70 mph caused a tree to fall on power lines coming into our home, ripping the weather pole off the side of the house, leaving live wires in the driveway. I called National Grid, who in turn, told me that I would need an electrician to reattach the lines to my meter, before they would come out and complete their work. Not knowing any electricians in the area, I wanted to give the business to a local contractor, so I found Keenan Electrical Services in the Beverly phonebook. Dave Keenan, the owner, promptly came out to my house to assess the damage. Within an hour or so, he sent a crew over to repair the lines. After the work was completed, Dave gave me a bill of nearly $1200. He told me that I needed to pay on the spot, cash or check. I was quite taken aback with the amount considering this was a routine job, non-emergency, completed in 2 1/4 hours. From what I observed during the job, one electrician was in the bucket truck installing the weather pole and reattaching the lines, a second was assisting, and a third pacing my driveway. According to my bill, Keenan pays their electrician almost $140/hr. I feel this is an exorbitant amount considering one of the workers was idle. After doing some research, I found that union electricians with fringe benefits earn approximately $70-75/hr. I begrudgingly paid Dave $1169.50 by check, which he told me he would hold until the end of the week so I could make sure I had sufficient funds in my account. When I checked my bank account the next morning, he had already cashed the check. My husband, who was not home at the time the service was performed, called Dave to have him clarify his bill since the receipt is not well itemized causing difficulty deducing the actual labor performed to jusify the cost. A description of one of the itemized charges was a call to National Grid. I actually called National Grid twice to have them reattach the lines to the pole after the electricians were finished. Dave was not able to clearly state the reason his workers are paid so highly. Once the electricians left my property, I went outside to observe their work and noticed there were still 2 long wires hanging from my house, wrapped around my fence. The workers left a mess of scrap plastic and cigarette butts in the driveway. Both my husband and I called Keenan twice to come back and finish the job. Keenan still has not returned our phone calls, nor completed the job to our satisfaction.
Description of Work: Three electricians from Keenan Electrical Services in Beverly worked for approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes installing a new service drop, a new service mast, new PVC pipe, and copper lines. A bucket truck was needed for the job. The invoice total $1169.50; $840 for labor, $329.50 for materials.

Response from Keenan Electrical Services Inc
On 3/1/10 my company Keenan Electrical Services Inc was called by the member because a tree had taken the service mast and drop of her house. I, David Keenan, owner went to her house at 2:30 pm to see the damage. I took a material list and talked to the member about the damage and the work. She said they just got power back after loosing it for three days. This job was an emergency call and live wires down in driveway. At no time did she ask me how much it was going to cost. I left to go get the materials I needed for the repair. I came back with materials for what I needed at 3:30 pm. I called my men from a job in Lynnfield to go to her house. We worked 2 ½ hours with National Grid and restored power to her home. With travel time. Standard in the industry it was three hours total. I was driving the bucket truck and supervising the jobs that day. My company works from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. All emergency calls are time and a half rate. NOT A STANDARD JOB THAT SHE STATES. Supervisor and bucket truck $135 x 3hr = $405 2 Men and truck with equip. $225 x 3hr = $675 Total $1080 Discount $240 Bucket truck /no charge $400 Total savings $640 Materials $329.50 Total bill $1169.50 NO THANK YOU FROM THE MEMBER. I guess you can’t keep people like this happy. My men are drug tested and motor vehicle checked and THEY DON’T SMOKE. The member stated we were prompt, I guess that was good because she got power. I told her the two long wires hanging were phone lines to call Verizon. We cannot touch them. 23 years in business and first complaint.
