We used Victory to install air conditioning in our previous home in Wellesley Mass and it went so well we decided to use them again when we moved to Brookline this year. The house is 3 stories, 4,000 SF and was built in 1870. The previous owners had recently put in two new gas furnaces, but the duct work was original. Victory did a great job of scoping out the job and providing a very competitive bid (we got three prices). Once they began work, they realized that most of the ducting was so poorly done that it should all be replaced, which they did within their original quote. The team was not only professional and polite, but they were genuinely good people who were dedicated to doing a great job (and keeping us happy during the process). They were prompt, quite and clean. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Victory or use them again.
Description of Work: - moved and reconfigured two air handlers/furnaces to create a split system servicing three floors. - replaced all duct work in the basement - installed new registers and thermostats - installed heavy duty whole-house dehumidifier

Our furnace went out during the night and the temperature in the morning was approx. 50 degrees and dropping in the house. We used Angie's List to find a reputable repair company in the area and placed an emergency service call to them. Victory had an actual person to receive all the calls and paged a service person right away. After about 15 minutes the service person called and 10 minutes after that he showed up at the door to fix the problem. After diagnosing what was wrong, he replaced the oil filter and nozzle and fired the furnace up with success. He was very professional and helpful in explaining what was happening and how he was going to fix it. About an hour and a half after the initial call our house was warm and toasty!
Description of Work: Troubleshooted problem with furnace. Replaced oil filter and nozzle. Restarted furnace with sucess and rechecked to make sure it was still working after 15 min.

The technicians were very professional and courteous. They kept us abreast of what they were doing as they progressed and at the end of the day. The installation had a professional look when it was complete. The overall work to almost two days, but the heat was on at the end of the first day. They sealed up all penetrations and relined the chimney to accommodate the water heater exhaust only. They were neat and punctual.

The folks at Victory are true professionals - responsive, courteous, helpful, and generous. I received excellent advice on how to diagnose my water heater over the phone (the pilot light would not stay lit). This was late on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend. Chris came out on the following Monday (a holiday) and did not charge me extra. He determined the part that needed replacement (which was not in hand), so he ordered it for next day arrival. On Tuesday Chris installed it and only charged me parts and labor (i.e. he did not charge me for the second service visit). The rates were very reasonable and the service was top notch. I would unreservedly recommend Victory.
Description of Work: My water heater (6 years old) was non functional. The pilot light was out, and would not reliably stay on after re-igniting it. Victory diagnosed the problem and replaced the gas valve and integrated burner unit.

Purchased home in 1992 that had electric baseboard heat and electric hot water. Solicited bids from several sources to replace electric heat and HW in 1993, but Victory was by far the most willing to leverage existing system infrastructure (ducting and HW plumbing) in design of innovative hydro air system that minimized cost. Victory installed the system in a reasonable amount of time, and came up with good solutions to unforseen problems. However, the quality of work was only average, and they failed to document parts of the system that were non-typical. There was one feature, a return duct, that they decided was too much trouble to finish, so they didn't. Three major issues surfaced in the first few months following the installation - Victory was very responsive and fixed the first promptly and at no charge. The second they were slow to respond and take responsibility for, until they investigated and found another design issue. They fixed that and charged for parts only. The third they ignored completely and I had to find another HVAC professional to diagnose. That professional identified the problem as a design fault again and fixed it. He also pointed out several 'questionable' aspects of the installation that did not conform to the equipment manufacturer's specifications. I brought these issues to Victory's attention but they refused to acknowlege. A couple of years later I had Victory add central air, which had been part of the original HVAC plan we decided upon. By this time Victory had grown their business considerably so I was not dealing with the original designer of my system, who was co-owner of the business. This time I found the quality of work less than before, but the price had gone up considerably. A year or two after that I wanted to add another heating zone for a three season porch. Due to the central air experience I tried to go outside of Victory, but found that due to the unusual nature of my system, with little or no documentation, it was hard to find someone willing to work on it. This time the quality of work from Victory was poor and unprofessional. The price of parts was at least 3x what I would pay at the local plumbing outlet, and the technician tried to charge extra time. This is the last request I've made of Victory. I would summarize my experience with Victory as this: I remain very appreciative of the fact they took somewhat of a risk in putting together a non-traditional system for the sake of saving me money. The co-owner I orginally worked with was very straightforward and cooperative. I didn't consider the risk of a quasi-documented system very large because I always intended for Victory to maintain it, and I had a very good relationship with one of its principals. But Victory grew faster than either of us envisioned and made that principal relatively unavailble. As time went on we discovered more and more corners were cut (i.e. not to code), which, in addition to parts of the system being untraditional, led to an elevated cost to maintain. Ironically, the subsequent service technicians from Victory found the system as confusing as non-Victory technicians. I believe I would still have the same system installed, but I would insist on more documentation, and would insist that no corners be cut. To be fair, Victory has maintained that any corner cutting was done with my approval, but I don't think that is entirely accurate. For example, I asked that the electrical power run outside to the A/C compressor be done in a conduit attached to the house. The technician suggested that it would be easier (i.e. cheaper) if they buried it instead, which I agreed to. Later an electrician found it in violation of code, since it was not buried deep enough. Victory claimed that they were only following my directions, although we never discussed code or depth of burial. In this and several other cases I didn't know code issues were involved, and Victory never made those clear. My last interaction with Victory was more than 6 years ago. They may have corrected their service issues since then, but I am still looking for a reliable company that I can turn maintenance of the system over to without having to explain all its quirks and variances to.
Description of Work: Octorber 1993 Victory installed oil based hydro air system with boiler that also provided hot water. House had existing baseboard electric. It also had solar features, such as solar panels for hot water, and air ducting to take attic heat and distribute throughout the house. Victory installed boiler in garage (house has no basement) with stainless chimney. It used the solar panel plumbing to bring hot water to the attic, where Victory installed a hydro air heat exchanger that made use of the existing air ducts. A couple years later Victory installed air compressor for central air, using existing heat exchanger. A couple years after air conditioning Victory installed baseboard forced hot water in three season porch.

It went well as I described in the description of the services.
Description of Work: Victory had worked for us before. We had to switch from analog to programmable thermostats in a new house we bought a year ago. The electrician had problems and I learned about Victory by word of mouth. 1. Thermostat change was done promptly and as promised. We had bought the thermostats. Total job was a couple of hours and cost about $150. Service guys explained other services, including A/C maintenance. I already had oil tank/furnance maintenance with oil company. After some checking decided to go with the maintenance contract for 3 a/c's in the house (all central units). Contract was for $240/yr. They came and did maintenance - check/test system, change filters, and added "freon" to one of the units. The extras was about $200. The contract also gives you priority in their schedule if they need to come back. Several weeks later, they came back because while I was away my wife had problems starting the units. They came the day after I called in the morning as promised. Unfortunately, nothing wrong (but still $80 visit). Wife had problems with new thermostats... ;-) Units are working great, and thermostats are doing their job. Overall, I liked their punctuality (a problem in my neck of the woods) and service. They are a bit pricey, though.

The pilot light on the furnace in our condo wouldn't light. Our condo is on the market and a potential buyer was having a home inspector coming to inspect the condo on Tuesday. The area was having an early cold snap and we needed to have the heat fixed. I called at 8:00 on Monday morning and they were able to have a serviceman at the condo between 11 and 1 that morning. The serviceman called our real estate agent as he headed to the condo within the time period that had been arranged as I had requested. When I called I was told there was a $99 diagnostic fee. At the condo, the serviceman checked the furnace and gave my real estate agent an estimate of the cost of repairs. He serviced the furnace and replaced a defective part. The invoice he prepared detailed the service and inspection which our real estate agent believed would be satisfactory to the home inspector. My real estate agent and I were both extremely pleased with their promptness in answering our service call, contacting him within the time period that I had been given when I called and provided with an accurate estimate of costs before the work was performed. The serviceman was professional and provided us with an invoice that should satisfy the home inspector who was at the condo the next day. I would recommend Victory Heating and Air to anyone in the area who needed service on their furnace or air conditioning system.
Description of Work: The pilot light on the furnace would not light. The serviceman found that the thermocoupler was defective. He replaced it and then cleaned the burners and the pilot assembly. He inspected the blower and checked the gas pressure as well as all electrical connections. He started the unit and cycled it on and off to make sure that the system was running normal.

After 3 winters of frustration with our heating unit, and after having our previous HVAC service company come to check and attempt to repair the unit, Victory fixed the unit in less than 20 minutes. For the past 3 winters I've deduced that we had a problem with our pressure switch, Victory confirmed this within the first 10 minutes, and replaced it immediately. I now have a perfectly operating HVAC heating unit for the first time in 3 years. I'm so pleased with Victory. So pleased that I signed a maintenance contract with them.

I was a little apprehensive about them as they sent people who looked a little bit inexperienced. I think that is the reason, the work took longer. Though they cleaned up after themselves, they lacked training.

Because of the ineptitude of another company which bi-passed our boiler's safety mechanism, we had major damage to our basement. The situation could have been much worse with the potential for serious injury. We are so lucky the damage wasn't worse and no one was hurt. We are also lucky we found Victory. We only wish we had found them sooner.
Description of Work: We called Victory after a boiler valve burst and flooded our basement, disabling our heat and hot water. The valve bursting was a result of a mistake made by another company. We called several companies with 24 hour service, but none were willing to help non-customers. We finally reached Victory who sent out their on call person, Donny. Donny showed up at 9:30pm and stayed until 11:30pm. He was able to repair heat to the first floor of our home. Donny came back the next day to repair the valve and heat for the second floor. Donny was patient, hard-working, smart and truly impressive. He turned us into Victory customers for life!

The reason I contracted with Victory was mostly due to the responses I received from forwarded references and one additional reference that wasn't forwarded. All had very good things to say about their experience with Victory. I am very pleased with the way the installation turned out. I am historically very anal and stress out in situations like this. With that said, it was difficult to watch a group of technicians installing all this equipment, cutting up my ceilings and basically taking over the house for two and a half days. I have to say that everything went very well. All the guys were courteous and polite. They showed great attention to their surroundings, (carpet protectors, floor coverings, overall cleanliness) and were very careful not to cause any extensive damage. All in all, this was the single biggest job I have ever contracted in all my years of home ownership. They did a great job and made it as stress free as possible.
Description of Work: Complete central air conditioning system including all duct work, plumbing, electrical and latest state of the art equipment. TRANE SEER 13 condenser model 14i, TRANE matching variable speed air handler and high efficiency TRION air filtration system. Installation included four ducts on second floor and three on the first. Extensive labor involved running ducts through closet space on second floor to reach ceiling of first floor. Significant exterior work as well including; running refridgerant lines with electrical lines through an installed down spout on house exterior to connect the air handler with the condenser.
