Asphalt Engineering

We have a 100' driveway and the last 4' were cracking near the street. We did not want to incur the expense of replacing the entire driveway and don't like the look of old pavement joining new since it is always noticeable. As such, we decided to have a 12' x 4' Granite strip installed as decorative strip with the top bordering the old asphalt and the bottom bordering the new asphalt. This required us to use two companies: Asphalt Engineering (AE) for the removal and paving and David Nyren Masonry (DN) for the granite installation. Asphalt Engineering did a great job and coordinated well with the mason contractor. They were very flexible and responsive since this was a multi-step job: 1) AE: Cut a straight line across the driveway, cleared the old pavement, cut the granite curbs to widen the driveway by 2 feet at the street and prepped and compacted the foundation 2) DN: Poured concrete foundation with rebar and installed 12' x 4' granite strip 3) AE: Poured the new asphalt and compacted it. Asphalt engineering was professional, timely, and cost effective. They widened the driveway and made it thicker than before so I'm confident it will not crack again. The job required them to work with multiple angles since my driveway goes up a hill. They did a nice job contouring the asphalt for a smooth entry. The new driveway looks great and I would highly recommend them!

A rep came out to see the old driveway within 5 days of my request for and estimate to replace and extend the old driveway. Within two weeks the work was done. It took two days to complete the work. The crews were quick and efficient and very professional. On the first day the preparation crew came and mark off the area that was to be extended and within two hours the demolition of the old driveway and removal of the old material as well as removing the additional soil to expand the driveway was done along with laying down gravel and stone dust and compacting it. The next day they came in to lay two courses of asphalt. Again the work was done quick and efficient and professionally. We are quite pleased with the outcome. Both crews did a great job.

They were extremely prompt and did a good job. The price was also very fair.

Professional estimate. The crew arrived on time the 1st day and scraped old surface and prepped in 1 1/2 hrs. Second day, also on time, they laid down and rolled two coats of blacktop.

They performed the job as agreed. The quality was very good.

I received several estimates and decided to go with Asphalt Engineering. I needed a complete rip up and replacement of a good size driveway. They sent me a proposal complete with a sketch of the area to be done broken down by sections. I had to make some changes and it was a very simple process. Everyone I spoke with both in office and in person were very polite and responsive. I also had to delay the install for a month or so and they were very accommodating . The job was to be two days. One for removal...one for install. Once I got the time for the removal they showed up as expected on time. We had to change the day of install due to severe rain. When they called to cancel they gave me a new date. Today it went in and it seemed to go smoothly. Now I just need to wait for it all to cure(?)....I am hoping when we get another rain I will see that the correction of the old grade to a new one and will be all set. I would recommend and use the company again.

They did an incrediblely good job of cleaning and preparing the surface of the driveway. They Brushed and blew every speck away until the surface was totalu without foreign bodies on it The men went around the entire driveway edge and applied the sealer by hand so as not to damage or mar the belgian blocks that line one side of the driveway. The other side of the drive has grass at it edge and the crew cut that edge to produce a crisp, clear edge to that side of the drive way.All in all they were meticulous in doing their work. I am going to use them again in a couple of years when my driveway needs to be sealed again.

This was the easiest company to work with. First someone actually answers the phone when you call. Second - an estimator was there the next day and quote arrived in a couple of days that was detailed. Was followed up with a phone call to be sure that we understood everything. No pressure. Once we decided to use them, the work was scheduled for the tear up and replacement. They called the day before each day of work to indicate time they would be there. Communications are very good. Driveway looks great!

AE did a fine job, from the first visit to assess the job, to the quoting process, the work itself, and communication with the front office. The work was done on schedule, the site was left clean during and after the work, and we are pleased with the quality of the new drive.

Everything went very well. I was very pleased with their pricing (another quote I got was for a few dollars shy of $8,000). It was also very close to a quote I had gotten from a well known (but low quality) driveway company. The process went smoothly from start to finish. I mailed a check for a 50% deposit, and they scheduled 2 dates for the paving. The first day, they were unable to pave the basecoat because the ground was too wet, so they came back a few days later to do the basecoat. They came back again to do the topcoat. Their workers were prompt (I was given a 2-hour time window for their arrival the day before), courteous, and appear very knowledgeable. The installation appeared to be done very well, and looks beautiful. They gave me some tips to help ensure that the driveway will last a long time. They also gave me a 3-year warranty (that covers cracks, sinking, and depressions), which was very nice. Clearly, they are confident in their work. The only downside was that the work was delayed twice (when they came for the basecoat, they said they needed to push back the topcoat, because too much water was in the ground). Even though that was annoying, I would MUCH prefer a delay to having the work done on time (but not properly). And the delays were due to all the rain we had during the time, which I certainly cannot fault the company for. A great job, done at a great price.

Excellent! The customer service is great. They answered all my questions in a timely manner and coordinated everything with the town office. It was a 3-house project and I can't say anything negative about the process.

They did an incredible job! The area that they paved was low lying where water would collect and would often be muddy and not passable. They removed material from the location including some large rocks and tree roots. They replaced with proper materials for drainage and a solid base for the paving. They area also included a slope which they set the proper grade for. They the paving itself was incredible quality. Not the average homeowner type quality but a very professional/commercial grade job. They used a binder coat then topped it with a finish coat. The final product was perfectly smooth and level! The pre-existing original driveway was completed by another contractor a while ago and I am very disappointed with that paving. Sub-par prep, sub-par material was used that looks like a binder coat and the finished product looks uneven. I never gave much thought to different quality of paving work but after seeing Asphalt Engineering's work they IS a huge difference. In add to their high quality work they accommodated my rush schedule, they entire work crew and office staff were professional, prompt and courteous. A big thumbs up for these folks!

They cut the opening by the street, did removal and installed the gravel in 2 hours. Then 2 days later came back and applied the sub base and final coat. They did a great job.

Couldn't have gone better. They were completely professional. I had had an experience where I called another company for the same service and they promised an estimate. I never heard from them again. Asphalt Engineering got right back to me when I contacted them and arranged for someone to come out an advise me on the best way to handle the task and to give me the estimate. He was prompt, polite and thorough. The estimate was prompt, as was the scheduling. There was a delay due to weather, but they let me know asap, and scheduled me the very next day. The final step was done yesterday, and it looks beautiful. I would definitely recommend them--in face, I've already recommended them to two people!

The job isn't quite done yet, but so far, so good. I hired this company because of the reviews I read here, on Angie's list. I called my insurance company and showed them the estimate. They were very surprised at how reasonable the price was. They have been extremely kind and understanding of my situation, as well. (Fighting with Tow Company over the damage.) If I have any problems, as they complete the work, I will update this review. Their staff has been a pleasure to deal with.

We were very pleased with the service provided by Asphalt Engineering so much so that we would use them again and recommend them to friends and acquaintances without reservation. They kept us informed every step of the way of any changes in scheduled date for installation that are caused by unanticipated events such as significant downpours or other delays caused by current projects. The staff were professional, courteous, and accommodating throughout the duration of the project. We are pleased to have contracted with Asphalt Engineering.

The team meticulously cleaned off debris from the driveway, then spread the sealcoating material over our long driveway. Team was careful not to coat the granite pavers lining the driveway.

We paid more than the big deal price because we had extra work done. The offer in the big deal was very basic and I wanted some extra work done, so it was a small fee over and above the $129 but I don't remember exactly how much it was - it was reasonable though. I don't mean to sound critical but, it's been long ago and I don't really have a clear memory of everything, I know that there was something that I didn't anticipate. So I paid more than the $129. Overall I was satisfied with the work, and the additional work that they did was very thorough.

Dig out done on time. Paving delayed due to weather. Paving completed 2 days after originally scheduled. Job looks good. Can not drive on it for 2 more days. True test, as with any driveway, will be what shape is it in next spring after the first New England winter. Owner-Estimater was very professional, providing good detail on the process and timing. Very professional approach to all aspects of the job. Estimate was within $100 of all other estimates. Office personnel called often to update me on the schedule; identifying when the crew would be on-site for the various steps. I will follow-up with final word on the job in the Spring of 2014.

Wow, they were totally professional and it was the best coating we have had. Neat as a pin great coating and the driveway looks new. Totally recommend them.

The key to the high rating in working with this company is their back office - they did an excellent job following up after the initial quotation was sent, adjusting and re-sending quotes quickly as scope changed, and just great customer service in general. There are plenty of companies who can do the actual work, but the experience in interacting with the customer is what sets really good ones apart - they guys have that down.

Initial estimate reasonably priced, applied Angie's List discount. Very responsive. Scheduling was easy. Very friendly. Their truck broke down and caused a 2 hr delay. As an apology they took $150 off the bill. They personally apologized via phone & email. New driveway looks great. They work fast & well. Overall experience was great. Would definitely recommend them.
