A-Tec Chimney Sweep

When A-Tec first came out to do a cleaning, they noted the firebrick in our wood burning fireplace would eventually have to be replaced because it had some cracks. As we continued to use the FP, the cracks obviously worsened and I began looking around to see if it would be cheaper to replace the panels myself (though I wasn't too thrilled at the prospect). Finally I decided to call A-Tec back and get a price from them and they asked me to check my old invoice. The estimate for the repairs was right there and cheaper than it would have been to buy the individual panels myself (they buy them in sheets and cut them to size right on site). So they came out, were once again quick, clean and totally professional, AND they took my $50 Angie's List coupon right off the total. When I asked if we needed another cleaning yet they said we were good to go for awhile so they weren't trying to add any extras. Bottom line is these guys are honest, dependable and very reasonable. We won't be calling anyone else for our FP and chimney needs.

Did a great job, cleaned up after themselves, worked quickly, no complaints. Offered to inspect our second (unused) chimney and noticed there was an issue with the flu (provided a quote for fixing it). Inspected the chimney structure and gave a rough estimate for getting them re-pointed. Thankfully they also suggested inspecting the flu for our furnace, what they called the "forgotten flu". Turns our it was full of dirt and the liner was degrading. They cleaned it and gave us an estimate by when we'd need a replacement and a quote to replace the liner. It's expensive so obviously in their interest to find things like this, but I was happy nonetheless that they were thorough because if we missed this it could be a serious problem.

Dave and his crew showed up early in the morning and were done by the early afternoon. They rebuilt the chimney from the attic up and capped it. They also lined the chimney and rerouted the venting in the basement which means they had to do some chimney/flue masonry there too. The chimney looks so much better! They did the masonry in a fashion that complements the style of the house, which actually makes a big aesthetic difference. They were clean, professional, punctual and timely. I will recommend them to others and will hire them again if needed.

I called due to an issue with my damper closing. ATEC scheduled a Saturday appointment within a week. Resolved my issue with the damper by cleaning the chimney. Professional experience and will hire again for next years cleaning.

Overall, the experience was excellent. Everyone I dealt with was not only professional but pleasant to work with. I will hire them again and recommend them to anyone requiring chimney service.

I recently purchased a new house and wanted to be sure that my wood burning fireplace was OK before using it. I first called ATec out to sweep the chimney and inspect it. My house inspector wasn't sure if it was properly lined and said that he thought it needed to be repointed from the roof line up. A tec was friendly on the phone and came out immediately to sweep the chimney and inspect. They gave me a discount for being an Angie's List customer, too. They were punctual and polite. After cleaning out the chimney on the first visit, I received a written estimate for the work that needed to be done and Tony explained everything to me in layman's terms. I set up an appointment to have the work performed a few weeks later. He also explained that my liner was perfectly fine and looked very good, even though my original inspector wasn't sure what was going on. I was also concerned about some debris at the bottom of the chimney in the basement and he assured me that everything was fine there. When Atec returned to do the additional work on my chimney, they arrived right on time (actually a few minutes early - bonus!) and got right to work on the job. There were two guys and they were both courteous and polite. They made sure to not get anything dirty or messy inside the house. They first removed the broken damper and then installed the new one, and showed me how to work it. Then they went outside to work on the chimney. They repointed the brick from the roof-line on up, fixed the cracked crown, added a stainless chimney cap, and then applied some sort of sealant to the brick. At one point, they needed me to turn on the water to an outside faucet. I wasn't sure where the shut off valve was, so they were pretty patient as I called my husband and we poked around in the cellar trying to find what they needed. I will definitely call A Tec in the future when I need any work done.

Got an appointment easily for less than a week out with a three hour time window. They showed up during the time window but it would have been nice to get a call that they were on their way; that is why I gave them a B for responsiveness. Fortunately I was home so it wasn't an issue. Two guys used a machine to clean the chimney. They seemed to do a decent job but I've never had the chimney cleaned before so I don't have anything to compare it to. I noticed the next day there was some black dust on the piano. I'm not sure if that was from the cleaning or using the fireplace that night but there wasn't too much of a mess. I've used the fireplace three times since it's been cleaned and haven't had any issues. I would use them again.

Two days after we purchased the home we had A-Tec come out so we could use the wood burning fireplace without worrying. Not only did they take care of that, but they also cleaned out the separate (and more important!) chimney for the oil burner. We have never had a home with oil before but didn't have a choice as our new town doesn't have gas. Dave took the time to explain everything about our system, cleaned it and also capped it as it was wide open at the top. They were super clean and professional - we won't hesitate to use them in the future.

I recommend these people to anyone needing their chimney serviced or repaired. They were knowledgeable, polite, and worked as if the repairs were being made to their own home. Our property was protected against any potential damage and when the job was completed, they cleaned the area which looked as if they had never been there. The finished product was even better than we had requested. If you need work done to your chimney, A-Tec is the one to consider.

They came when they said they would, performed the repairs as quoted, and were very neat and clean. I would definintely recommend them.

We called the company because we hadn't had our chimney cleaned since the house was built. We got an appointment for the next day. The two servicemen arrived on time and were courteous and knowledgeable about the job. They cleaned our chimney and said it was not bad for so long a time (25 years) and said our oil service must clean the furnace well. They left the area spotless when they were done. We asked them to check our chimney as the bricks are chipping off. They gave us an estimate of what needed to be repaired and how much it would cost, including the installation of a metal cap which we know can help a chimney last longer. Steve explained in simple language what and how the repairs would be made and how a coating will be applied to keep the moisture from get into the brick work. He also explained how a staging would be set up to avoid nailing into our roof shingles. We agreed to repair work and they will be coming next Saturday and expect to be there only 1 day. We are very pleased with them.

Very responsive to the initial communications. The workmaen were very efficient, and did the job quickly. The job meet my expectations. I will use them again.

My house was built in the 1870's and has a 4 flue center hearth chimney. I called a couple repair places to get quotes for the work. One place wanted a fee to come out and look at it (I declined); one place took 3 reminder calls to come out and look at it. He gave me a comparable price to A-tec, but nothing in writing unless I was going to go with his bid. A-tec came earlier than scheduled on the day they said they'd be there, which was fine with me. They gave me a written quote with explanations of services to be provided, broken down into 3 areas: chimney rebuild with cap; furnace flue liner; and woodstove liner, with pricing for each service, and a discounted price if I did everything. When I called them with the go ahead, the job was scheduled about a week after. They arrived around 8 am; dismantled and rebuilt the chimney in one day. My heat was off while they did the work, but was back on on the late afternoon! They came back the next morning and installed the liners and cap. They were done by about 1 pm. The entire crew was polite and courteous. During the cleanup after the demo and rebuild, my wife said one guy was on his hands and knees getting debris out of my lawn! The workmanship is excellent. I was very impressed, and would highly recommend them.

He arrived in a timely fashion and after showing him where the chimeny was in the basement, went right to work. He was courteous and professional, as well as, thorough and neat. He went on the roof and after completing cleaning did an inspection. Told me I didn't need to have the chimney checked until two years and the liner was weakened in two spots but didn't need attention right now. This is in comparision to another company who insisted I needed cleaning every year and a complete new liner. Gave me a discount because the job wasn't that big. Would hire them again in a heartbeat.

From start to finish this was an excellent experience. Dave, one of the owners/brothers and another worker came to my house to clean my 2 fireplace chimneys, but I also asked them to take a look at the furnace chimney. I had been told by another chimney sweep company that it needed a new liner (with an estimate of around $6,000), and I wanted a second opinion. Dave examined the chimney and assured me that I did NOT need a new liner. What I particularly liked was the way that he explained things to me - very clearly, the right amount of detail, not patronizing. He recommended that I put a cap on that chimney, as well as an application of a 'smoktite' chamber on the section of my fireplace chimneys just above the flue. We set up a followup appointment for later that week at 8am. On the appointed day, Dave called me from the road because they were delayed due to bad weather and traffic. He kept me posted of their ETA, so I didn't at all mind that they were a little late. All the work was done in a timely fashion, exactly as described, and they left everything very clean. I highly recommend A-Tec chimney. As a final note, I should mention that the original chimney sweep company I used to use (who gave me the $6000 estimate for a new chimney liner), had put a cap on my fireplace chimney which BLEW OFF in one day, falling three stories onto the ground, and could have killed someone. I won't mention their name, but obviously, I would never use them again, nor would I place much weight on their advice. From now on it's A-Tec Chimney for me!

They did a good job and cleaned up beautifully afterwards. I was very concerned about a possible crack in the flu and they assured me it was fine. I was very pleased with their honesty.

I got a $20 discount because I have Angie's List. It was kind of a second assessment for me because somebody had told me before that I had these problems but their price was so prohibitive that I couldn't get it done. Their price was much more reasonable and I plan to use them in the spring when it warms up. They were fast, efficient and very clean. They didn't leave any disturbance.

John was wonderful! He answered my many questions, was very knowledgeable and, took the time to help me understand my options. I would definitely recommend these guys for anything you need.
