From the estimate to the finished job, I was very pleased with the service, the friendly attitude, and the quality of the work. This is a company where the customer truly comes first. During the interior work, Fabio made sure the bathroom cabinets, counter, walls, and floor were well-protected. The garage looks better now than it did when new.

The estimator was very complete in discussing what we wanted.  We only got one other estimate, which was lower by 10 or 20 percent, but was a one-man company with a pretty serious language barrier.  We had used Tom Curren 10 years before when it was a much smaller company and were somewhat concerned that control might have been lost, but the estimator made us feel good about that so we went ahead with them.  They got us on their schedule quickly.  The crew of three was very solicitous in being sure to do what we wanted and avoiding any damage to anything.  They moved things like outdoor tables and plants carefully.  In one day they scrubbed the house vigorously to remove peeling old opaque stain and taped everything to protect windows, outdoor pipes, etc from being painted.  (They emphasized NOT doing real power washing because it damages the wood.)  They made correct choices about which things should NOT be painted -- an electrical conduit and a gas pipe, and some pressure-treated steps.  The next day (very long and very hot) they sanded everything and applied three coats, which look very good.  The third day they did the inside of a screened porch and a last railing, using two different kinds of paint (all the same color) for the wood decking inside the porch and the steel lally columns under some decks.  They returned everything that they had moved after the paint had dried, even coming back late the next day to put tables and chairs back inside the screened porch.  They were very careful to avoid splattering any paint on our new composite decking or the stainless steel cables in our deck railings.  Overall a superb job.

A field service manager came to the house, reviewed needed work and promply provided a written estimate. Discussed the proposal and agreed to provisions. Work was scheduled and prior to starting, a second review with the individual to complete work was conducted. Starting date agreed upon, and work commenced on time and was completed on time and within budget. Throughout the time the work was underway, there was constant contact whenever questions arose. Upon completion, a final review was conducted and all work approved and payment was made. The experience overall was pleasant and friendly.

The painting job they did was good, but not the highest quality that we expected it to be. We had no issues with the cleanup. We had some issues with the pricing and wasn't exactly what was presented to us. The overall work was fine, but the pricing ended up being more and lot of cost that we didn't necessarily anticipate that were not presented to us.

We had a very good experience with Tom Curren Companies. They are responsive and professional. Their quote was the highest we received but we felt it was worth the extra for the quality and professionalism they provided. Gilmar, their master carpenter, does amazing work. The replacement steps on the side entry are just beautiful. Any issue that arose during the project was easily resolved. We are going to be modeling our basement in the near future and will definitely call them for a quote.

After reading previous glowing reviews of Tom Curren on Angie's List, I contacted their office to inquire about expanding our deck. They were able to send someone out the next day (Tom himself). He was very professional and extremely helpful in giving us ideas on design, etc. He and his staff also researched what was needed permit wise. He visited 3 times to discuss design, permits, etc. without us ever having committed to his company. We were satisfied with all the prep work and ideas he had so we went with him. Work started within two weeks and his crew showed right on time. Mario (foreman) and crew were extremely professional, courteous and hard-working individuals. Everything at the end of the day was cleaned up and stacked neatly with as little disruption to us as possible to our daily lives. They remained on schedule and were able to work in parallel with the electrician I'd hired to wire the hot tub. The finished job was better than we'd imagined and we will definitely use Tom Curren Companies again in the future.

Response time extraordinarily fast. After initial e- mail we heard back in less than 24 hrs and a rep visited the next day. Clear description of what they could do and the cost was much less than others from local carpenters. Job scheduled for the following week. Workers punctual, polite and knowledgeable, easy to have around the house. The finished product was fabulous, gutters replaced and covered. They matched our old paint perfectly. Good craftsmanship. Took care in the quality of their work. Cleaned up well. They remodeled a small room, replaced insulation, added ceiling and sturdy walls - not an easy project with tough dimensions. They offer many services, including handyman projects and painting. Know we will hire them again.

The owner came right away to give me an estimate of the work needed and the price. The write-up and start of the work was delayed. In the process of doing the work they found the ant damage and some rot. They had to re-do the work order which almost doubled the price. The painter who was to do the inside work was delayed in starting. The outside painter called him and got him to the job the next morning. He came with the paint I had selected and he was all set to work. I'm happy with the quality work that was done.

Excellent not only did they do the work but they informed me that the warranty on the paint job they did three years ago had not expired and I should take advantage of free warranty work. I had had them paint the entire house three years before. They did great work were professional and helpful. Great to have around the house. They are not the cheapest but the they are the best value. if you care about a quality job with an honest assesment of the work then use them. I have used them several times as has my family.

Our house hadn't been painted for a number of years and badly needed it - there was a lot of peeling paint and damage from previous ice dam problems. The siding in front was uneven, the shingles roughly gouged by a poor sanding job done by a previous painting contractor. The account rep who walked through the job with me was very responsive and punctual and clear about what the work would entail, who would do it and when. He had been a painting contractor himself so he knew the details. He came by the house during the work to see if everything was ok and afterwards to do a final walk-through. The painting crew was fantastic: from the initial previewing of the house through to the end of the job. They were very professional, polite and worked very h****** some very hot days. Every night the yard and driveway were cleaned up. They took great care not to harm the plantings around the house and the windows. I couldn't be more pleased with how my house looks - like a brand new house - and I am amazed at how smoothed out and new the front siding looks now. While the price was somewhat higher than I had expected to pay for the job, I felt that "you get what you pay for". Compared to some other contractors whom I had met and asked for bids, I trusted the professionalism, experience and quality that was promised by Tom Curren Companies - and they certainly delivered. I would most definitely recommend Tom Curren Companies to anyone, and will certainly call on them in the future. I also had used their handyman services earlier in the spring, and the man they sent me was wonderful - very efficient and skilled and charged a very fair price.

We did get several bids and they were not the least expensive. They were here on time and did the job quickly. We have a 4 story home. They replaced 2 screen doors that we were told by other handymen could not be replaced. They found a perfect fit and had no problems.

I had called around to other carpenters and no one really got back to me. If they did, they considered this too small of a job or couldn't do it until a few weeks. I really needed it done by the end of May. Eder, the handyman, who came was extremely prompt, professional, and did a really nice job. There was no mess and he even did some painting to ensure the sideboard he installed matched my remaining cabinets. I was very pleased with the work and would call them again for additional work.

I had a basement full of water and Tom's company came right over and worked on the problem until it was solved. It had been raining for days and the basement had 3 feet of water in it. It was flowing from the higher level in the basement to the lower level. There was way more water than the pump that I had could handle. The person assessed the job and used just the right pump to handle the problem. To do this he had to work in the rain, in 3 feet of water and in the cold.

After phoning for an estimate I was contacted by Bryan who came by to meet with me as soon as our schedules allowed, a couple of days. Bryan was knowledgeable and personable and seemed genuinely interested in what I needed done. (Some of the sales people from other companies who quoted seemed more interested in what they wanted to sell me.) Bryan pointed out two different ways to approach the job around repainting or replacing shutters and explained how the differences would affect the cost. The estimates with the two different approaches were e mailed to me the next day. Other companies only quoted the one way they wanted to do the job, but Tom Curren gave me the options and prices for each. Work was scheduled within a month and was completed on time. During the job the crew explained some damage they found to foundation brick work and recommended that I have it repointed which was very helpful because we could not see this area until some bushes were pulled back to do the work. After the repointing was completed the crew came back and completed the touch up to this part of the job without any additional charge to me even though this meant they had to make an extra trip, which I appreciated. Billing was prompt and accurate. I have recommended Tom Curren to friends and will use their services again.

Tom and his crew came over and walked the house for all the projects we had identified. They showed up on time, asked the right questions (My wife's an architect so she's tough) and spelled out all the steps to each job. An estimate and schedule was presented and readily agreed to. And did they deliver. They even keep a database of paint colors/codes for any future projects and updates. If my wife is happy they must have done a good job. We will certainly use them again and recommend them to friends.

Tom Curren Companies saved my basement! While out of town, I experienced the heartbreak of flooding of our newly finished basement. One phone call and my wife was rescued by Tom?s handymen. Pumps, hoses, fans all appeared and we were dry within 24 hours. Tom?s guys even helped move furniture to higher land. What a life saver!

We had an exceptional experience working with Barry Eldershaw at Tom Curren Painting. We recieved a mailer about a winter promotion that they were having right about the time that we were getting estimates on interior painting from several companies, and while the price was slightly more than we'd been quoted elsewhere, we chose Tom Curren because of the confidence we had in their ability to do a really quality job. Barry walked us through what we would need done and, given his background as a painter himself, was able to add a lot of insight and help us make decisions on what things needed to be done - even to the point of helping select some colors. We trusted them with working in the house while we were out of town for a couple of days and they were very professional - including Barry sending me picture messages as the rooms were getting finished (above and beyond). We had a slight miscommunication as to the order that rooms were finished for our return, but everyone involved worked quickly to rectify the situation and it caused only a minimal disturbance. We actually had such a positive experience that we've since hired the company to send in one of their handymen to do some regrouting work in our bathroom. Everyone involved was so friendly that my 2 year old son is still talking about "the guy in black" (Barry had on a black coat when he came in) and all the things that "Mr. Joe" painted (the foreman of our painting crew was Joe). We would definintely recommend using Tom Curren to any of our friends and would go straight to them if we needed additional work done.

I have used this company for a number of years and found them to be extremely reliable and easy to work with. They have saved me a lot of money by doing a yearly inspection on a very large, old frame house and completing any necessary repairs before they develop into major problems. The crew are always wonderfully polite, don't use boom boxes (they are really quiet), and do a good job cleaning up.

Tom Curren is the go-to company for me. I live in a historic house that needs special care and I get attention to detail and quality from Tom Curren. Tom NEVER over-services to make an extra buck. He will not recommend painting when just a pressure wash will do the job. With this company it is a one-stop deal: if there's a screen whose frame is rotting it will be taken care of. If it is mold on the balusters, it will be treated. If it is birds that are nesting in the eaves, not a problem - a clever screening system is devised and installed. When I found - eek- mushrooms growing in the corner of the guest room, Tom Curren to the rescue! He was on it instantly. His guys opened the wall up, found a shattered pipe dripping. They supervised the HVAC company's repair efforts and kept on questioning and probing until the problem was solved. I have never experienced this kind of superb follow-through in any service company before. All the guys employed by the Company are responsible, timely, trustworthy, communicative and courteous. They will not leave the premises until they go over the work with me and make sure it meets with the client's satisfaction. If traffic holds them up, they immediately call in. You have their cell numbers. Coordination and scheduling is a breeze. The central office staff is superb as well. If there is an insurance claim, they provide the necessary documentation efficiently and completely. They too are friendly and courteous and oh, so helpful. I cannot say enough about how secure I feel living in this old place BECAUSE I know where to go if things go awry. Tom Curren is a phone call away. He is absolutely the best, and I say that knowingly. I had other painters, handymen, etc etc before I found Tom and they don't hold a candle to Tom Curren Companies.

I LOVE the Tom Curren company! I would give them an A+ if I could. They are professional, reliable, and a delight to work with. Both salesmen I've dealt with over the years are the nicest guys ever -- they return my phone calls promptly and are quick to schedule our initial meetings. They listen with great attention to exactly what I want done, take great notes, and give me an initial estimate that has almost never varied significantly from the final cost of the job. The workers arrive on time, exactly when scheduled, and do an excellent, high-quality job. I am always surprised by how quickly the work is done! Again, I've probably hired them a dozen times -- and the one and only time I was slightly less satisfied, the guys were out the very next day, fixing the job till it was perfect. They take pride in their work, and they are all such nice guys. Really -- I can't say enough good things about this company. What do people care about most in a contractor? Reliability, a good price, and quality work. Well, that is Tom Curren.

Very few home owners look forward to seeking out contractors when they must undertake major home repairs. Our condo association elected my husband and me to be in charge of an overwhelming task with a hefty price tag; the result of substandard workmanship just a mere 11 years ago when the units were constructed. Seeking out estimates, asking friends for recommendations, and setting up appointments with prospective contractors was nerve-racking and intimidating, as I had to report findings to four other condo owners and trustees, making the task one that could be complicated and unachievable while awaiting approval to go ahead with job. Many contractors were impatient and unwilling to work with a condo association with five owners? opinions and input. Barry Eldershaw, Tom Curren Company's project manager, was not only congenial, but he went the extra mile to assure all owners that he would be on board, visible, cooperative and have our best interest in mind. His loyalty to both Tom Curren Companies and us, the clients, was trustworthy, uprightous and constant. He was always available, answered calls in an amazingly timely manner, communicated exceptionally well with all owners and had a complete and thorough knowledge of all work to be done, as well as all contractual policies of Tom Curren , and relayed that information clearly to us, having respect for our property, personal lives and financial undertakings. His personal and affable demeanor was definitely the reason that the condo owners decided to go with Tom Curren. Owners felt that he was professional, accessible and held himself to high standards. We were not disappointed and would like to convey to you our absolute satisfaction with the work that Curren Construction performed for us. Our highest regard and appreciation goes to Barry Eldershaw for managing this project and for his upstanding service to us. The rest of the staff at Curren, the painting and construction foremen, and the crew were exceptional and we recommend Tom Curren Companies for any home project, large or small.

I have had painting done by Tom several times in the past, and this time I wanted to spiff up the interior (last done prior to children, now one in college-) including a possible new carpet and trying to make a wrought iron stair rail as attractive as possible. I decided to call Tom because he was having a 25% off Feb. sale. He has always been good about coming out to give us an estimate even when (probably 1/2 the time) I ended up being totally overwhelmed by the colors of paint chips and gave up on the project. Tom asked what color I was thinking of for the hall, I suggested a couple and he sent us some (but not too many) large (9x12) paint samples within a couple days. His office asst. was very helpful with my questions. Tom also gave his cell phone number if needed. I wasn't sure what to do with the stair and hall carpet so he suggested I have the old one disposed of (which they did, including pulling out the old nails and painting the risers) and wait to see if we'd recarpet or keep the hardwood floors bare. Thinking about the project in steps helped me, because I couldn't envision what it would look like after several things were done. He suggested replastering the dining room instead of "blue board" which would have left a ridge at the edge of the hall and dining room ceilings. The plaster and paint guys came within several days. The chief painter was nice, helpful, spoke English well, etc. He was willing to install new door knobs and smoke detectors when I bought some, and even moved a large cupboard to a different room when I got in the redecorating spirit. I was out at work when the crew was there for 2 days, and they kept the dog in and let the cat in and out (as asked). They came on a Sat. morning and agreed to come at 9 instead of 8, which I appreciated, and were as unobtrusive as possible given the work to be done. They also put plastic drop cloths everywhere to minimize any spills. A college student might have done the work for less, (I don't know-) but the work was professional, and guaranteed. Tom once painted the exterior of our house (which has chronic dampness issues being in the woods) and when we needed a touch up on the north side two summers later, he didn't charge us because he thought the paint should have lasted longer.

I didn't use them. They kept sending me promotionals. I decided they were too expensive. The guy that came out was very nice. He took a look at the whole thing and also told me that I needed repair of my gutters and cleaning on my gutters apart from what I was actually asking them to do. Ultimately we had some difficulty getting back together again when he had his estimate put together. We eventually did get together. The previous time I had asked for an estimate from them, I got a whole collection of testimonials from other people about what a great company it was and pictures of their improvement and so on. When we got down to the nitty-gritty, his estimate was something over $10000.00. His estimate was one of five that I got done. The estimates ranged from $1500.00 to Tom Curren's $10000.00. That was essentially the experience I had. The guy who came out was pleasant and courteous and certainly did his best to get together with me, but I thought that the price was too high. There was another point which was a side issue. When the guy was in the basement, he told me that I had carpenter ants and showed me the tunnels that demonstrated that they were carpenter ants. They were actually termites and not carpenter ants. He did make me aware about the problem and it did motivate me to have an exterminator come out and give me the bad news.

Communication was lousy. The work was not done well and was completed very late. They started the work in September of 2008 and finally finished in August of 2009. They messed up big time.
Response from Tom Curren Companies
"Work began in September of 2008 and was completed in September of 2008. Shortly after the job was completed, the member contacted the company to look at some Punch List items that were concerning to him. At that time, we immediately set up an appointment with Tom Curren along with the paint crew chief to look at the work with the member. Tom Curren Companies agreed to come back in the Spring of 2009 to perform touch ups as it was too late in the season to do them. The job was completed in August of 2009 due only due to the excessive rain days we had from May and June. And, because the member had a carpentry crew completing other items in the same space, he asked us to delay our return. When we completed the job he reviewed everything and thanked us. The work was completed in full and thoroughly per the contract."
