Tom Curren Companies

This was a 'big deal' that was $450 for full day of carpentry. Job was done as requested, however, I was overcharged $800. I could not get accounting of the charges and owner actually came out to house to discuss. Still do not have fully accurate accounting, but was good enough (this is for a condo account). Looked like they totally ignored the big deal payment and charged me for all the labor. Would never use this company again. Felt like they were taking advantage of a woman owner of property.

I was having trouble getting someone out quick enough (the front door wouldn't stay closed!) Nick had me email a picture of the issue and had the handyman check before he even got to my house. He was able to come by within a few days, fix the door and a few other odds and ends in the house. Friendly, professional, great experience!

Most of the work went fine, though there was some unfortunate and unecessary sloppiness - like dripping paint and stain onto interior floors and carpets while carrying open cans through the house. My biggest issue was with the carpentry aspects. After getting a detailed price breakdown, I asked both contractor and crew chief what I would get if I spent another $1000 or so - I didn't want to lowball the job, and lose quality. I was assured that the quoted price would get the job done to high standards. It turned out later that some serious rot had been painted over; it got worse quickly, and resulted in damages that cost far more than the original job to repair. The window replacements were of lower quality than I had requested and agreed to pay for. Two decks were replaced in a way that made them impossible to service (leaf removal, re-staining, etc.); the correction was inadequate, and I wound up paying someone else to make it right. In the course of that work, we found that the Curren carpenters had removed and improperly replaced a balcony drain. For several years, much of the water poured into a wall, leading to a major carpenter-ant infestation and $thousands more in additional repairs. The basic exterior cleaning and painting went fine, more or less. The woodwork was not much short of a disaster. Perhaps the company is doing a better job now of choosing its carpentry subcontractors, and also of really checking the condition of at-risk trim and window framing. I hope so.

They were professional in assessing the damage and providing a quote. They provided an estimate for fixing the damage, but we decided to go with another contractor that offered to completely re-build the front porch.

The experience went very well overall. They did several hours of work for us on our porch, and did a nice job! The quality of the work was what I expected for the time & cost.

The whole process was conducted in record time. The carpenter returned the following day to paint the aluminum trim with paint that I purchased. He also removed some mildew on my vinyl siding beneath the window ( which I provided a pail with bleach water for).

They were great! They were clean and timely. Their price was reasonable and they did a good job overall. I just referred them to my sister.

I live in a 3rd floor condo, which is really the converted attic space of a 2-family house converted to a 3-family. The insurance company for the house,i.e., all 3 condos, told us last fall that I had to have my deck and the back stairs (i.e., "emergency egress) re-painted, or they would drop the insurance. Not only was Tom Curran Co. responsive when I asked for an estimate, they suggested I ask the insurance company if powerwashing in the fall and painting in the spring would meet the requirement. That worked! This not only made the project more affordable, as I paid only for part of the job in the fall, it also meant that having the work done in the spring, the paint job would be better (late fall not being the best time to paint outside). The price Tom Curran gave me was also the best estimate I got. In addition, they take credit cards, which I found very helpful. And they were terrific about contacting me by email, which is my preferred means of contact. Overall, everyone I dealt with was professional, considerate and helpful. My next big project at home is a bathroom renovation, and I look forward to getting an estimate from Tom Curran & Co. I will certainly factor in to their estimate the ease of working with them as well as their consideration when dealing with clients!

It was wonderful; they did a great job. They were efficient and clean.

We have had some experience with contractors in the area and I must say that Tom Curren Companies stood out as different and much more professional in their approach to our projects as well as the execution and follow up. Our back stairs had aged and were soggy and falling apart, Also we had a bathroom with ancient sea shell wallpaper that was beginning to peel off. With our new baby and my husband's parents impending arrival for a 2 and half month stay, we wanted this work to be accomplished before or at least at the beginning of their stay. One of the things that we found really the your company apart from the rest is the fact that a qualified project manager (Jason) with many years of relevant hands on experience came in to see the issues and recommend the various courses of action. Within 2 days he also came by with the estimates and we decided upon a course of action. The work was started within days and finished before my parents in law got here. The workers , carpenters and painters, were extremely professional, well mannered and went out of their way to explain what they were doing, what the time line was, when they would be arriving and when they would be finished. When all the worked was done the project manager closed the loop with us. I would most certainly elect elect to go with Tom Curren Companies again on future projects. Worth mentioning, Gilmar and Diego were the two workers whom I spoke with about each project and I think any customer would find that they are they are assets to the organization. They were personable and asked about my new baby and were just nice people in general.. They were understanding when one morning I was late in getting to the door. And they were knew their work very well - The end products are awesome!

They went ahead and repaired the gutter without getting my permission, and charged my debit card number which I had given them. In the spring another company told me they still needed repair. They refunded me the repair charge, but not without a fight. I had to call to follow up many times.

They did a good job and everything went smoothly.

They send someone who will go over the whole project with you before you sign any contracts. I most recently worked with Brian who was absolutely wonderful. The painters always ask a lot of questions to make sure they do a good job. They show up when they say they will. I always feel comfortable leaving these people in my house. They clean up after themselves really well and always make the right moves to ensure that the furniture and floors doesn't get messy.

Met with Barry Eldershaw promtly after requesting estimate. He was very thorough, knowledgable and pleasant. He returned quickly with well packaged estimate, including information about the company's insurance, and timeline for project completion. Within proposed timeline, Fabio started and completed work on all of the above. Fabio was efficient, professional, friendly, and easy to have around the house for the time it took to complete the work. We would not hesitate to contact Tom Curren for home maintenance needs in the future, and would certainly ask for Barry and Fabio!

He had a good estimate, the job's not over, he's coming back, and doing more things. If he does a great job, the price is great.

Diego and his crew showed up on time and were very easy to work with. Worked quickly and efficiently, finishing prep and multiple coats in just two days. Cleaned up at the end of each day, and worked very neatly. Very satisfied with the result.

ALL WENT VERY WELL FROM START TO FINISH.,

We received a mailing from this company and called them. They showed up late for the scheduled appointment (It took 2 weeks to schedule) and then after they came, we never heard back from them with an estimate or a call.

Disappointing - had to take two separate days to leave work and meet the estimator.
