I had a terrible experience with Tom Curren Companies.  Three major areas in which they failed:
    1.  Marketing Misrepresentations.  Did not perform work as stipulated in our contract, i.e., said they would hand wash the house and brush on all paint.  They did neither of these.  They pressure washed and spray painted.
    2.  Poor Project Management.  Nobody from the company in charge of the painting crew.  No project supervision or inspection upon job completion.  There was no one to contact in case of problems.
    3.  Unprofessional Crew.  Painters wore shirts from other painting companies.  Paint drips and foot prints were left on my decking. 
I will not use this company again and recommend that no one else do so either.
My letters and emails to the company have gone unanswered.  There's no response at all.

We are always committed to addressing any customer concerns or inquiries. This was a smaller (four-day) job on a log cabin home. Due to the uniqueness of this customer’s home, the wash was completed with small amounts of pressure. The customer expressed their concerns in regards to this wash, in which our estimator immediately met with the customer at their home for resolution. It was during this time that our estimator made clear he is readily available for our customers at any time throughout the duration of the job. We also have an office project manager that manages our paint crews, available to further address any questions or customer concerns. Following this meeting, neither the estimator nor the office was called in regards to the issues listed above. It was our company that reached out to the customer to gain feedback upon the completion of the job. We received a response from the customer with a letter sent through the mail, which can take several days to arrive. When this letter was obtained, we then reached out to the customer for the second time to set up a time to address and discuss their concerns. We have not heard back from the customer. In regards to our painting crews, they absolutely do not wear shirts from other painting companies. Our painters wear white Tom Curren Companies shirts on every job. Occasionally, they will wear Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams shirts to represent the high quality brands we utilize on our jobs. We were quite shocked to receive this review, as we were not provided the opportunity to address the additional concerns the customer had. As mentioned, we have reached out to the customer but have not received a response back. We always strive to have 100% customer satisfaction, as well as pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality work. From start to finish Tom Curren's company provided the superior repair/painting services. Mr. Barry Eldershaw was the overall supervisor. He came to evaluate the job at exactly the time we agreed upon. He was detailed and professional in regard to each situation, taking appropriate photos to bring back and help formulate the estimate. The price was approximately what we had thought we would pay. The actual painting and repairing was done in a  day and a half by a two-man crew. We will definitely use this company again, and will recommend it to our friends as well as here on A's list.

The job took three weeks, and the result is beautiful.  The cost of the work was quite high, but the quality of work was excellent.  The team of painters (led by Mr. Serpa) did a superb job, were very efficient, skilled, and thorough, and meticulous in every detail.  The prep work they did in sanding and removing the old paint was incredibly thorough, more so than any I've seen done before. They were unfailingly polite and cheerful, worked long, hard hours in very hot weather, completed the job on time, cleaned up at end of every day.  The carpenters (led by Mr. Gilmar) did their work with great attention to detail, made my porch stronger and handsomer than it was originally, and came up with helpful ideas for materials to use in the garage repairs to prevent water damage.  Neighbors and friends have been very complimentary about the way the house and garage look now.

After reading many reviews on many different companies, I chose Tom Curren Companies. They had the best reviews, and now I see why. I needed extensive repair on the trim, porch railings, fence and arbor. Also, the main portion of the house was due for painting. Communication with them was excellent. They always showed up when they said they would, and let me know what they were doing and asked any questions if needed about how I wanted things completed. Total work took about 3 weeks, and included wash and hand scrub the house, repair work, spot prime new work, and 2 coats of paint. All work was completed late in the year, October, except for the front door. It needed a special paint that required 70 degrees or more to apply. When the weather was warm enough, they returned to complete the door, and a few touchups on the trim. Everything looks great. Couldn't ask for a better experience with a contractor. They are very professional and dependable. I would definitely use them for any future work. Highest recommendation from me!

I had several conversations with Tom Curren's estimator because I was deciding how much work to have done.  He was very professional,  responsive and thoroughly explained what they could do, any difficulties they might encounter, and any limitations of the service.  After we settled upon a scope of work, the estimator wrote down a detailed explanation so that the workmen would know exactly what was to be done.  Tom Curren gave me a timeframe for scheduling the work and finished within the interval.  The workmen called the day before arriving. I was not home when they arrived, so did not meet them and can comment on their professionalism only by how well they did the work.  And judging by how clean the house was, they did an excellent job and were exceptionally neat - there was nothing for me to clean up.  I would definitely use Tom Curren again.

The painting crew came for a pre-job consult to speak to the details of the work, arrived on time for all work and were very polite.  The work was done efficiently and they were very thorough. After getting 3 bids on the work I signed a contract with T. Curren companies and gave one third deposit.  As per contract, work was to start on or before 4/28/14. I thanked the other bidders (one was about identical in price and reputation) and chose Curren because of the fact they promised to start work " the day after they get the doors from the manufacturer". Per agreement with Curren Co. I personally  bought all the hardware for the doors, including a mail slot hardware (the larger of two standard sizes, this is not a special, custom-made item) . The size of the mail slot was specified several times in email exchanges with the salesman. A carpenter from the company came to measure the doors in April before ordering the doors, and took all of the hardware with him, including the hardware for mail slot. I clearly explained to him that I wanted a specific size mail slot (which is a standard size) to fit the hardware. After repeated  calls and messages trying to get a start date, I got a phone call from the salesman stating that he had miscalculated the cost of the job and that my deposit would be refunded unless I agreed to pay $350 more. Having turned down the other bidders, and lost several weeks already, I agreed to pay $250 more in a phone negotiation. I called repeatedly to find out when the work would be performed and finally got a response from Tom Curren with a start date and the news that the door mail slot was smaller than  the one I had specified. However the company had installed the larger hardware on the small slot at the headquarters and said that "it would work as a mail slot" but that it did not fit and insulation was visible from the indoor side of the door. I asked for the hole to be enlarged but was denied. Having not seen the door, I waited until it was brought to my house for installation before getting in a discussion. In the mean time, the date of installation was cancelled and rescheduled twice. Finally, a subcontractor was sent to my house around the third week of June to install the doors. The work was performed well by the subcontractors, but the door with the mailslot issue was not acceptable. The subcontractor offered to cut the hole larger to fit the hardware providing it was negotiated through T. Curren Co. The Curren Co. demanded a fee of $100 to enlarge the hole, which I refused to pay. In addition, a significant part of the initial work did not need to be performed to install the new doors (removal of the outside casings and re-wrapping with aluminum siding) and I requested an adjustment to the original contract price. The salesman agreed to the change but did not appear to communicate with the office manager and bookkeeper. Resolving that last issue took an additional 5 days.  Although I am happy with the new doors and the work performed by the sub-contractor
who was very professional and careful, this has been an overall unpleasant and drawn-out experience.

"We are committed that complicated jobs go well, that the quality of the installation and products is up to our standards, and that the client is happy. When doors are installed and various manufacturers’ materials and systems are integrated, instead of using same line manufactured products there is always a need for caution in the ordering and installation planning and delivery. Our normal policy is to not allow customers to place orders for complex items with which they are unfamiliar. This is because it often results in installation complications that are unintended and affect cost- as is the case with this client. In this instance the original door (which we ordered) would not work with the hardware ordered by the homeowner and the doors had to be reordered – one reason for the delay mentioned. As noted, the mail slot size of the doors (ordered by us) that best fit the other components (ordered by the client) weren’t a match for the door. We could have custom cut the slot in the door, but the results would not have been our quality standards. We informed the customer of the situation and the cost associated with this “work-around” option. Even though these lead time delays frustrated everyone involved, we stayed disciplined and in task and put great people on the job to make sure it all turned out well in the end. We’re disappointed that the process did not work for the customer, but we are pleased that the install- after their custom needs were accommodated with the additional time required – were met in full; and, that the client is happy with the finished product. In the future, we will adhere to our policy of not allowing customers to place orders for custom products, instead, ordering those products ourselves to make sure all the components will work together and avoid this types of unfortunate incident in the future. It took about a week to a week and a half to do. It was the best paint job we've ever had. The sanding and prep was superb - they sanded down to the bare wood, which had layers of different products on top that they had to get through. They also had a handyman who replaced a few panes of glass and some door locks which was convenient. The paint job made it though the winter without chipping or flaking.

After contacting Tom Curren (the person taking the call was professional and courteous), I had a representative at my house within a week. On that date he (Brian Powell) showed up right on time. He understood the requirement and was able to offer valuable suggestions. After signing the papers we dealt with the project manager/carpenter Mark. He too was always on time and showed up when expected. We were also installing an aquarium with a 3rd party and Mark coordinated with them directly. Any challenges encountered by the fish guys Mark would correct the same day, even if he was at another job. Mark offered invaluable design ideas from both an aesthetic and structural standpoint. Lastly we worked with Tom C's electrician and had a similar, positive experience. When waiting on the aquarium guys, Mark completed our kitchen garden window. Not only is it beautiful but eight months later, we've never had a leak. The finished piece exceeded our expectations. Within a couple of days of Mark's work, painters showed up and finished painting the same day. Overall it was a very positive experience from start to finish and the craftsmanship was A+.

We needed exterior painting of our home done...about a 3500 sq ft colonial, trim, a deck, front door, and hand rails. I interviewed 4 companies, all off of Angie's list, all with excellent reviews, and all that had at least 50 reviews. I really did some homework. I chose Tom Curren because the gentleman who came out to meet with me (Bryan Powell) really did a great job of educating me in regard to the entire process... EVERYTHING from the different grades of Benjamin Moore paint to why they did things in a specific order. He assured me everyone on the job spoke English (I prefer that in case of a quick safety issue that needs to be addressed). They had several different payment plans and he had a VERY professional presentation that he went through when he met with me for the final quote, including laminated pages with pictures and work bios of the people in the office I would be dealing with. It was extremely professional and informative. The price was right in the middle of the other 3 companies, and because of the level of information Bryan provided and the very positive reviews others had given, I chose Tom Curren.  The process ended up being exactly as Bryan had described... it took just as long as he said, the job site was kept as clean as he said, the crew (led by Humberto, who was just EXCELLENT!) was as professional as he said, and there was only 1 change order that increased the price because they found some very badly rotted would behind 2 gutter downspouts. It was fixed right away... there were no delays, and they disposed of a bunch of old paint and stain for a small fee. It's a pain in the butt and expensive to do the homework to paint a pretty large house, but these guys made the entire expensive process as painless as I ever could have wanted. Oh, and the house looks SO much better than it did.

I contacted Tom Curren because they were highly recommended on Anglies List..  They came promptly to look at my house, but would only give me an estimate if they came to talk to me in person (they also wanted my spouse to be there).  They used some high pressure sales techniques like telling me if I don't sign up right away, they would not be able to fit me in.  I thought their price was rather high, but I had not painted the house for a while, so I didn't know what the current rates were and the company was highly rated by Angies list, so I thought I would go with them.  The sales person also told me that their crews had all worked for them for 5 to 10 years.   
They came promptly to do the work.  I asked the crew chief who was doing the work and he told me that he had been working for the company for two weeks.  They power washed the house and did some rough sanding.  They put one coat of primer on and 2 coats of finish paint.  They purchased the paint which was a top brand. 
After three or four days, they were done.  I was at work during that time and did not directly see them working.  When they were done, frankly I was shocked.  I did not feel they did a quality job and I was so upset, I did not even want them to fix it.  It has been two and a half years since they did the painting and I am even more disappointed because there are now large sections of the house that are peeling sheets of paint right down to the bare wood.  I also believe they did not do the caulking that they were supposed to and they did not do a good job of preparing the surface.  A good quality paint job you should not be able to see where the underlying paint was scraped off, in my case it is very obvious.  I have attached several pictures of the peeling paint and of the rough sanding job that they did.

Update:
The company did contact me the day after I posted the above review.  We arranged for a company representative to come to my house and look at the condition of the paint job.  At that meeting, the company representative suggested that I had a moisture problem coming from inside the house.  The company representative told me that he would return in a few days with a moisture meter to verify this.  He never came back.  The posted response from the company says that the cause was ice dams.  I never agreed to this.  My house is well insulated and has a complete vapor barrier on the inside.  The roof is fully vented.  Moreover, most of peeling paint is on the unheated garage which would not have ice dam problems.
Also the company response below says that I would remove the review.  I have never agreed to this.  This review is completely factual and I believe that the company has responsibility for the poor results.

We have used TC several times and have generally been very happy with their work.  Particularly, their painting has always been very high quality.  We recently had them clean the exterior of our house and the process was described as being gentle so as not to cause any damage to the surfaces with no pressure washer being used.  Unfortunately, the crew did not do a completely thorough job on the entry way and did use a pressure washer so that we find ourselves having to repair some areas that were cleaned.  Lastly, because they were having a special on handyman services, we were asked to wait and they would call us to schedule some interior work we needed.  We waited for two months and they never called so we called them and he was available right away.  Everyone is always very polite and professional and the cost is always within the estimate.

The painting job was handled very professionally.  Good prep work and excellent attention to detail.  The crew chief was a very good communicator.  The crew chief and his assistant worked hard - no excess time spent hanging around, talking on the phone etc. They were neat workers who left the job site in very good order.  When the job was complete, any areas that needed more attention were promptly handled. We used this company to paint the house eight years ago and went back to them having been impressed with their work on the first job.  The carpentry jobs were handled with the same efficiency.  Given that the house was going on the market, we were impressed with their ability to get the jobs done within a short time period.  We definitely would recommend this company with no reservations.

I had hired someone to take the counter off my bathroom cabinet.  While doing so, he broke off a piece of the cabinet and was unable to fix it., and a new counter was scheduled to be installed the next day.  I called Tom Curren and his scheduler did everything she could to get someone in the same day which was understandably impossible.  But she got Joe in early the next morning.  He did a fabulous job fixing the cabinet, probably stronger now than it was new.  He had the time to do a few other things for me which he did quickly and neatly, and the price was fair.  Joe and Tom Curren are now in my iPhone contacts list and they are already scheduled to give me estimates on some other work.
