We had water damage and the kitchen was already gutted. Our rating for the price is based on five estimates that we received for this project. Britton Holmes was on the high side. The price though hopefully reflects quality and convenience for the customer based on his reviews and recommendations. Overall we liked Jim and his professionalism.

Working with Jim was a delight. He was knowledgeable and responsive. He kept all of his commitments to dates, and in fact, finished the total job two weeks early. The sub-contractors he brought in were professional and reliable. When some workmen accidentally caused a small mess in our basement, Jim personally spent time cleaning it up. Jim recommended providers to us (for cabinets, tile, granite, and appliances) that we wound up using. We were happy with all his recommendations. Bottom line: Britton Homes might cost more than some but you absolutely get what you pay for.

They did a great job (I can show before and after pictures). We thought the job was pricey but over time we realized the materials and craftsmanship were top-notch, so we got what we paid for. Only glitch was a vent with asbestos that was hiding behind the plywood and that needed to be dealt with appropriately. They worked everything out with minor changes to the estimate. Now it is 3 years later and Jim Britton gives us a call to see how things have progressed over time and to check if we still like out kitchen. We love out kitchen, the family congregates there daily! We mentioned a list of minor things that we wanted fixed or tweaked, nothing major: I burned a cabinet face, other cabinet laminate was coming off due to moisture from the tea pot (both our doing), a faucet finish was pealing off, etc. The common wear and tear that happens and you might even not fix. Within 3 weeks Jim gets the replacement parts for said cabinets and faucet, and sends his best carpenter (Mike Lynch) to fix the stuff and some other minor touch ups. I come home to a fixed kitchen and a happy wife! Jim and his company (his son Patrick is in the business) will go through a detailed estimate of the work and proceed to do it on time and with your input in mind. It was a very pleasant experience. The fact that Jim came back to check on his work is proof of his professionalism, which is evident on all the guys that work for him. Definitely recommend this company for minor or major work. They know what they are doing, and you are paying for top-notch work.

Excellent. It has been a pleasure to work with Britton Homes. It feels like we are in a partnership--they make every effort to understand what we want and implement this. They have been very flexible with an open-ended, multi-stage project, providing us with different options at each stage and allowing us time to consider them, without letting the project slip to the back burner. They have been very effective coordinating the different sub-contractors. We have been pleased with the quality of the work done by both Britton Homes and their sub-contractors. Britton Homes provides good oversight for all work and quickly addresses all questions and issues as they arise. They have been very respectful and considerate of our neighbors. They are up-to-date with current building techniques and zoning requirements and work well with town inspectors.

It went very well. The prices were reasonable and the workmanship was excellent. We were living in the house while they were doing this, and the interruption was minimal. When people see the renovation, it is completely seamless.

It went very well. Our tenants moved out prior to phase 1. We moved out of the building for phase 2. We moved back 3 1/2 months later, ahead of schedule and were able to rent out the rental unit within 2 months. We love living there and are happy that we did not experience ANY of the horror stories that we have often heard from others involved in remodeling/reconstruction projects .

Fantastic work appeared in Boston Globe Magazine in 2009. Very professional and responsive. They do work of the highest quality. The best company I have ever worked with for home renovation. I am a customer for life. I compared to 5 other builders and thankfully chose Britton Homes.

project took a while, but was in truth a complex job requiring services of structural engineer and barn restoration experts. Britton Homes was responsive, and on top of all the ongoing details, as well as the progress of the subcontractors. End result was quite good; we now have a huge amt. of usable storage inside the barn, which was previously not the case. We also considered turning the barn into living space, and the prelim. design submitted by the Brittons was very intriguing, but we decided against the "total" project due to increased cost...we may pursue it in the future.

Thorough, detail oriented, punctual, on time, and within budget. The Britton Homes team was truly a pleasure to work with.

Britton Homes has done two jobs for us and we will continue to use them. They have given us accurate estimates, completed the job as scheduled, cleaned up after themselves, and followed through on loose ends without nagging. Those are unusual traits in the building industry.

We were very satisfied with them. They were very professional to work with and very pleasant. They told us what needed to be done in advance and the quality of the work was very good.

They did a decent job. They were professional, but the price was way too expensive. I think they're a much bigger project company than just a small remodel like this.

We interviewed them but we didn't use them because the price was too high. It was high compared to others. I have no experience with them actually doing any service for us. They did come out pretty quickly.

We got them through Angie's List. They came in a did an estimate. They also showed us a job in progress in the neighborhood. They were very detailed with the estimate, more so than any other contractor. However we felt they were too high priced. i.e. part of the job was to add windows in our Dining Room. They were double to three times higher than 3 other quotes. Even though we didn't hire them, we found Them to be very pleasant and quite professional.

They did a great job. The work is amazing. They got done on time. It was easy to work with them. We trust them completely.

Based on his example below we decide not to hire him: As an example if the direct cost of the project are $100,000 we would mark that up 1.35 times to $135,000. This is a gross profit of $35,000 of this $35,000, $12,000 is net profit and $23,000 covers overhead. Overhead is insurance costs, phones, office rent, electric, heat, gasoline for the trucks, tools, medical insurance, vacation time for the employee's and education.

In a word...EXCELLENT! No complaints at all. The project was designed in about one month, and built in two months, and the quality is superb. The staff were here everyday, right on time. The Designer, Project Manager and General Contractor could be reached immediately, or they always returned phone calls/e-mail promptly. Problems (if they arose) were dealt with quickly and professionally. Everyone was patient and listened to our needs, considerate, and best of all had a sense of humor. No one was ever critical or rude. We have a son with special needs, and they made sure his safety was always a priority around the work area. The work area was left cleaned up each day, and they even gave us a gift at the end of the project; how cool is that? I would highly recommend this company for any job big or small. We have a lovely new living space now, and are very grateful we chose them to build it!

Can I nominate them for the page of happiness? The work was on time, on budget and completed with utmost attention to service and detail. This was a big job (bigger than I realized at first) and Jim's crew has just been fantastic every step of the way. From the start, Jim was terrific. Another contractor had backed out on us unexpectedly and with virtually no notice, he took our plans via email and came to a meeting with a complete estimate, questions and a time-line. Miraculously, he was available on short notice, too. The work started on-time (actually a week early; he changed his schedule to start while we were on vacation), largely finished early (the time estimate was nine weeks, but the vast majority of work was completed in 4-5 weeks). Service has been terrific; the workers clean up every night and did their best to keep our house 'livable' during the project. Problems were addressed immediately and phone calls and emails are always returned.

Jim met with us a couple of times to go over the project. He was patient and explained the process. He was easy to reach when we had questions. When he came back with pricing, it was out of our price range. We decided to shop around for pricing that we could afford. We would have used him had we had the budget.

This company is excellent. Patrick and Jim Britton do a superb job facilitating design and planning before the project begins, and the jobs that they embark upon are universally top-quality. Their work crews are compulsive and diligent. It is easy to get hold of anyone in the company, from the owners, to the project managers, to the carpenters. They all have business cards with cell phone numbers and e-mail, and are very responsive at all times. I don't know if their pricing structure is super-competitive or not, but in terms of reliability and quality delivered, the costs are very reasonable. I would recommend Britton Homes to anyone else, and plan to use them again in the future for other home improvement projects.
