MRM Contracting

Owner Matt is a great salesman, he may even do well with small projects like windows and siding, but PLEASE don't hire him for a remodel project. He does not have the experience, organizational and planning skills or manpower to complete a significant renovation project. We had to pull our own permit because his HIC was expired. He assured us he renewed it in May at the start of the project, in September it is still not valid. This is important, because the HIC protects you if he defaults on the contract-which he did. He promised floor plans and never provided them-not even hand drawn. As soon as he got his deposit and start checks-66% which is high- he began back pedaling and changing the scope owed to us. I asked for change order documents showing dollar value-even if there was an add- and he never provided any, always wanting to "trade" a deleted scope item for other work I didn't need. A dormer with two windows in the contract scope was changed to a skylight the day he got his first check. He promised us a solar model, then purchased a much cheaper manual model, telling us the solar unit was a 6-week lead time. One call to the local distributor confirmed this was not true-he corrected it only after we presented him with the evidence. We discussed spray foam insulation and he tried to install fiberglass instead, contract written deceptively so he did not own it (listed just the R-rating and not the type of insulation). This resulted in us having to hire our own spray foam contractor-a $7 K add that he told us would be $11K. His contract included a two -person jet tub, which he changed to a one person, because the floor would not support it, even though I asked during the bid phase if it was possible. (Of course the answer was yes) He told us we passed structural inspection before we had the spray foam contractor come in, which it turns out was untrue-it never passed structural inspection. He promised raising ceiling height, but once he learned that the inspector required engineered plans, that also "went away". His "company" is himself and one helper, and if the helper is not working that day, he doesn't show-and this happens often. He has advised me anywhere from 10 AM-2 PM on the scheduled day of work that they "won't make it there today" When they do work it is never a full day. If subcontractors are involved, he does not supervise them. He let plumbers into our home and left them unattended on more than one occasion, asked us to let in and supervise the electrician. Ten weeks into a job he said would take six weeks, he walked off the job, half finished and done incorrectly. He took all his barrels and left the trash. We have drain pipes running through our upper kitchen cabinets. Don't do it! I saved for years for this project, this should be an exciting time-instead it is a nightmare.

Matt showed up as scheduled. Completed the work in record time. Also did some odd jobs around our home. Work was very very professionally handled and completed

Matthew martin (owner of MRM Contracting) was extremely professional, while taking the time and effort to put detail into his work. He explained step by step the process in a way in which we were able to understand and took the time to answer any and all questions we had. He takes pride in his work and even though he had a crew working for him, he was still up on that roof even on the hottest of days to make sure of the quality. His crew were hard workers and very fast, and extremely polite. It was a pleasure doing business with this company.
