 + -1 moreVillandry was highly recommended by several of our neighbors, but they still managed to exceed my expectations. High quality work. Progress was made every day. The workers were friendly and professional. They provided a detailed estimate, transparent accounting and lots of helpful communication. After the downstairs bathroom was almost complete, I asked them to raise the shower stem. This was a lot of unexpected work, since the wall was already tiled. "No problem!" Two days later, it was done. Villandry wasn't the low bid, but they provide very good value for big jobs like this one.

Description of Work: We had requested for an appointment for quote. The person was on time. Once he was in we requested him to put in boot coveralls to protect our floors. We ask it to all contractors. He started swearing and left the place without giving us a quote. This is first instance of such bad behavior from contractor.

 + -1 moreVillandry is a textbook great contractor. Super clear, organized, detailed quote and execution plan. Owner is personally involved, and went out of his way to minimize the inconvenience of having our only bathroom disappear while we were still in the house. The job manager was on top of things, and we were always informed of the schedule. Quality of work was very good to excellent, depending on the sub. They seemed super busy, but were committed to doing our job right. Would highly recommend. If they are even a little higher than your other quotes, go with Villandry so you can sleep at night knowing your house is in good hands, and the work will last.

 + 5 moreIt was great working with Villandry throughout the process. We were in the middle of a window replacement job with another contractor when we discovered the rotted areas in the wall and posts. The window installer wasn't certified to fix the structural problems, so we needed to find a general contractor, and quickly, because the old windows had already been removed. Fernando, the owner, stopped by soon after our call and gave us a very reasonable quote, on the low end of the three that we received. Although his schedule was already fairly full, he managed to fit us in fairly quickly. Additional damage was discovered as they did the work, and the modification to the quote was also very reasonable. We are very happy with the quality of the work, both the structural parts and the exterior finish work, and they cleaned the work area well. Fernando and his employees were always friendly and professional.
Description of Work: Replaced posts and re-framed wall in sun-room/porch (both of which had extensive wood-rot from past water intrusion). Replaced cedar shingle on exterior.

 + 0 moreFernando Carreiro came to my home to talk about a renovation / addition we will be doing in the spring. I was punctual, very engaged and offered quite a few suggestions. He was also very knowledgeable about applicable town bylaws and codes. Even though he had not submitted a bid yet, I considered hima front runner for the project. A few days later, he sent me a very professional email explaining that he had just accepted a large project that conflicted with my timeline and wouldn't be available. He pointed out that he does not like to have his crew over-committed on multiple projects. I respect that and wish that many of his competitors would adopt the same policy.

 + -1 moreIt went really really well. Villandry is a trustlworthy company with a great office. Everyone is very punctual and informative. Competitve pricing, stayed in contact through the whole process. No kitchen remodel is easy and this team made it managable. The whole process took only 2 weeks. Villandry knows the best contractors in the area for plaster, wood floors, etc and they always managed them well. The only thing that would make it better is if Villandry did stone countertops! They only do wood so we had to get a different countertop contractor.

It was done to perfection as stated, there were no unpleasant surprises. We were guided throughout the process with their reminders of when things needed to be bought and had to be done. It was a very successful process.

 + 0 moreThis was the second substantial renovation job in 7 years we have contracted with Villandry to do. The quotation process was straightforward and spelled out the elements of the work in great detail. We had created plans for the areas to be worked on and discussed them with Fernando and his crew, who helped fill in the specific details needed for implementation. We had selected a number of our preferred suppliers for fixtures and tiles, the logistics for which the crew in the Villandry office helped manage by tweaking the work schedule and providing some interim storage for the larger fixtures after delivery. As the work went forward the events needed to make timely progress were well communicated where our action was required, and on time where others were required to act such as inspections and subcontractor work. We were living in the house while the work was done and the Villandry crew did a good job isolating the work areas with plastic sheeting and floor pads to keep the dust down while going in and out of the house. The subcontractors were all very good, particularly the tile, floor, and painter crews. The overall cost of the job grew just a bit from the original estimate. The estimate was spelled out in such great detail that deviations are immediatiately apparent and become cost decision points. While at the time of quotation we thought we had a better than average understanding of the scope of the work to be done, it became clear that as the work progressed and it became apparent a change from the original basis of quotation was the best way to go, it invariably grew cost. That said, the process was transparent, the work was high quality, a good value, and we would continue to consider Villandry for future jobs.

Description of Work: In 2011, I decided to finally renovate my 1960 "harvest gold" kitchen. I started with one contractor, who had done work for my neighbor. I decided in August that I needed to look further for a reliable contractor. Through Angie's list I found Villandry Contracting, but I also tried two more contractors, as recommended. Two contractors, did not even respond to my phone calls. I had ordered my cabinets from a manufacturer in New Hampshire, and he recommended a contractor in MA who came to our house and was interested in the job. The biggest problem with our kitchen was the floor. It needed to be torn up, and the sub floor rebuilt. My lucky day was the day Fernando Carreiro came to our house to check out our kitchen and what we wanted to do. We already had our plan set up. He listened, made suggestions, explained the problems we could encounter, and was very honest about when the job could be done if we decided to use Villandry for the work. After talking to Fernando for maybe five minutes, I decided this was a great fit. Six days later, I received a detailTed estimate by e-mail. This company's response time is incredible! We signed the estimate, and we had a start date for January 2012. Flash forward to January, We had to put the project off until May due to health issues. Villandry's biggest concern was my husband's recovery. The project consisted of: Demo: Remove old cabinets, appliances, plumbing, wall tile, floor down to the framing, baseboards, window,electrical fixtures, etc. Rebuild a sub-floor, plaster and prepare all walls to be paint ready, repair ceiling to be paint ready, install duct work for range hood, move waste pipe for sink drainage, install new cabinets, plumbing, light fixtures (including recessed lighting, under counter lighting), addition to circuit board, bring up new lines from the board, install new window, appliances and re-install old wall oven and glass cook top, (not an easy job), install porcelain tile floor, tile backsplash and granite counter top & window sill, new covers on baseboard heatng.

 + 6 moreVery thorough communication from Day 1 of Estimate, which is apparently a rare thing! Everything was spelled out in contracts and amendments so there was no confusion as the project start date approached and as the project went on. This was reassuring to us as this was the biggest, most expensive project we've done to our home to date. Work began on time (as quoted in original estimate) and was completed slightly earlier than projected. All workers were amazingly quick, professional, polite, and always took time to clean up the work site. Fernando is very professional and was willing to work with us to allow us to do as much of the work ourselves when possible to minimize costs. All of our questions and concerns were addressed fully and in a timely manner, often in the same day. The cost of the project stayed true to the estimate, without any surprises, and, while it was not the cheapest estimate we received in pricing our project, it was not the most expensive either. The workers were able to get everything completed just in time for a big family party and took extra care to clean the work site. They were even kind enough to refer us to an electrician a few weeks later when we found ourselves in a bind and needed someone reliable asap (he worked out great as well). We felt very confident with their work and would not hesitate to use them again in the future or to recommend them to friends and family. Thanks, Villandry Co!

Framed new addition including windows, door (to existing deck), and concrete footing. Installed new siding and gutters on new addition. Added approx 13ft beam at top of existing wall at entrance to new addition to allow for future demo of wall. Made addition weather tight exterior, did no finish work on interior, leaving addition framed only (per our request).

There were a few glitches and misunderstandings, but Fernando and Shaun cleared things up right away. The quality of the workmanship is very fine, and the tile, in particular, is outstandingly done. A few weeks ago, we had a minor plumbing problem and I called Shaun to check it out. They had a plumber over within the day and he figured out what was wrong ( a small item) and fixed it. Fernando and his staff really care about "getting it right"

 + -1 moreHe was very good at responding initially. I think he thought that the whole bathroom would have to be redone. When he realized it was just the shower stall his basic response was that he couldn?t do it. I had already bought all the raw materials, and the only way he could make any money was off the labor. It was basically a small job. I think it was an economic decision on his side, which was disappointing to me because he seemed to be the most knowledgeable of anybody that I had spoken to. I felt like we were small potatoes who were not really worth it to him probably based on the other jobs that he had. I was basically waiting for the quote when I got an e-mail saying that he would not take up the work. He led me to believe that he could do the work and made me wait a week before telling me that he would not take it up.

 + 4 moreI don't remember how much the quote was. I thought he was very professional. He was not pushy at all. He seemed like he would be an easy guy to work with. He knew his stuff. I just didn't want to go through with this huge job this year. It would have been too much. I didn't hire anybody else. I might hire him to do a piece of it at some point. It seemed like a good company. I know that they have been around forever. I would recommend a friend or family member to get a quote from Villandry if they wanted some remodeling done. He gave me a written quote and I think he did a very good job. He was very good on responsiveness. He came right out and actually followed up. I would use this company again in the future for a quote.
Description of Work: Villandry Contracting came out and gave me a quote on a dormer. They were actually going to do the entire attic, basement, and the exterior stuff that included doing a huge regrade, digging up the driveway, and putting a new retaining wall.

Description of Work: Although we decided to go in a different direction for our basement remodel, we were very impressed with Villandry. Fernando was the most responsive, professional, and knowledgeable contractor that quoted for us. His contract has a level of detail that dwarfed all other proposals/quotes. His prices were also the most competitive, and other contractors in the area could not come close to his price/value. I would highly recommend calling Villandry before moving forward with any other contractor in the area!

Once they start a job they remain on it until finished...unlike some who are here a day gone a week. They limit their company size in order to stay on top of the work quality. This means you will need to wait as they are often booked. Believe me it is WELL worth the wait. I will not use anyone else.

Villandry gave us a nice booklet with exactly what they were going to do which I'm sure would have been great but for the price of $35,000, which did not include everything, we were amazed that it was twice what we had expected so decided to keep looking for someone else.
Description of Work: We have a small master bathroom that we wanted to redo - wanted to keep everything in same position and get new tub, re-tile the shower, replace toilet, sink and cabinet and new vanity and new tiles. We set up an appt. and they came when expected. ($35000)
