Patrick Hourican Plastering

We recently purchsed a house and planned to get it painted before we moved in. The painters suggested we'd want to have the ceiling repaired before painting was done. We called three plasterers for estimates. Patrick Hourican came over within a few days to give an estimate. He discussed the pros and cons of complete ceiling replacement versus blueboarding over the existing ceiling, considering the potential impact on the gumwood moldings (almost impossible to replace if they crack). He could have tried to upsell us into the more extensive and expensive celing replacement, but blueboarding over the existing one seemed to make more sense. He was able to come do the job on short notice, and even accommodated our last-minute pushing the work back by 4-5 days due to a delay with our electrician. Patrick was knowledgable, straighforward, and accommodating-- and most important, the ceiling looks beautiful. We have received compliments on the plastering job from two other contractors who have come in to do other projects! A great experience.

Patrick showed up on time a day after calling for an estimate. He gave an estimate and said that he would only need a few days notice to schedule the job when all inspections were complete. After a few setbacks due to inspection failures he was able to start the following day. The board was hung in just over a day and the entire crew came the day after the screw inspection on Saturday and finished all plastering all in one day (6 guys were in there!). The house was built in 1910 and the walls were far from perfect and they made the place look great! Patrick was very pleasant to deal with. He answered all calls and was quick to offer advice and help regarding soundproofing as well. I would highly recommend using Patrick for all of your plastering needs! -Dan

We are re-doing our bathroom and had initially planned to do all the work ourselves, but time was not on our side and we also wanted to replace the textured ceiling with a smooth. There were many patches where the old light fixtures were as well as new drywall where we had moved the shower from. Because it was a small space I figured it would be hard to get someone to come out, and I was right. Patrick was the only one to call back. My call was returned by his wife within a few hours to get the details and 2 days after calling Patrick came by to give an estimate. The work was completed 2 weeks later. He estimated it would take 2-3 hours and his crew was done within 2 hours. They laid dropcloths from the front door all the way up the steps to the bathroom and swept the floors on their way out. I love the finish result and plan on using this contractor again in the future.

Patrick had come, given a price, gave advice and we agreed to a date. Unfortunately, the town inspection was delayed, and so Patricks crew had to be told to come another day. They were very accommodating, and came at a day which was totally acceptable to us. The crew came, did a most wonderful job (very beautifully hiding my handiwork(!)), cleaned up and left. Most certainly will use them and HIGHLY recommend their work.

The work was completed on time and on budget. The quality of the work was first rate.

Immediately returned calls, came within days, was punctual, did a great job -- an 11 x 17 kitchen that already had blue board up. His guys could have been a little neater, but overall I'd hire them again and recommend them.

Very quick - ~ 1h - came to the minute when they said they would, and cleaned up very well. This was potentially a messy job in a mess sensitive part of the house...so we were quite pleased. Crew was pleasant.

Excellent work. Patrick and his crew were extremely flexible. When a last minute change to the job pushed our date out, Patrick sent his guys out over the weekend. They were extremely tidy and dust free. It was great to see the transformation and not have to worry about a lengthy cleanup.

Patrick was very friendly and responsive. He got the job done in no time and once I repainted, you couldn't even tell that work had been done. Would use him again.

Water damage from a condo above mine resulted in a ceiling with bubbles. Patrick was one of the few contractors who called back within a decent amount of time. He came to look at the job and gave an estimate before performing the work. I am a long-distance landlord so I didn't physically see the result (except in a picture), so I can't really comment on the quality or punctuality. Only one other contractor got back to me, and he recommended just plastering and painting over it (at a lower price); I went with Patrick because he seemed to describe a more thorough job and I wanted to make sure everything was done and I wouldn't have problems in the future. Thus, I can't comment on the price since I don't have anything comparable. The only bad experience I had was in trying to arrange a time and having to go through a number of call backs. At one point there was a misunderstanding on my part (I was informed by my contact person that Patrick hadn't called back when he said he would, and it turns out that person had misunderstood when Patrick said he would call back), so when I mentioned this to him he commented on the price of the job and the fact that I had a coupon (from Angie's list), as if to say this wasn't even worth his efforts. I was a little taken aback by that, but otherwise the job got done within a reasonable time, so I can't really complain.

All I can say is "Wow, I'm incredibly impressed," as are a few uncles who are experienced plasterers. I ended up calling Patrick after a contractor (who had been recommended by my electrician) pulled a no show. I was under the gun and needed a plasterer ASAP. I signed on to Angie's List and honed in on Patrick based on other Angie's List reports. I called and he returned my call promptly, and this is during Labor Day weekend when no one expects a call back. He came the same day (Saturday) and provided me with a reasonable quote within hours of the visit and said he'd be able to come on Monday, Labor Day, at 7 am. I noticed that his van pulled up at at 6:45 but he did not knock on my door until 7 on the dot. The work, his crew and the entire experience were a 10!! And fast! I'm actually happy that the turn of events turned me toward Patrick. I have a 200 year old, 5-bedroom Victorian that still needs quite a bit of work. It's absolutely refreshing knowing that I scored with an unbelievable professional. I will absolutely be hiring him again. Thank you, Patrick. Seriously, hire him!!!!

There was some back and forth on setting a day/time to get the work done but they were busy so it is understandable. They said 7:00 AM for the time they were there right at 7, came in laid out plastic to keep the place clean and went to work. An hour later I had a new bathroom ceiling and the place was clean as can be. Great work friendly crew. I would use them again

I called Patrick Hourican shortly after closing on my home in mid-March. He returned my call promptly and was very flexible with setting up a time to come and give me a quote. He arrived to my home on-time with his rather adorable little boy in tow. He assessed the work and gave me a verbal quote. Three months later, after getting other quotes we decided to hire Patrick not because he was the cheapest but because he was the most prompt, friendly and reliable. When we called he remembered us and when we mentioned Angie's List he gave us the discount advertised. The day of the work two of his emplyees showed up and went right to work, Patrick told us he would be by later to assess their work and pick up any left over trash. The men were professional and focused if not gregarious. While they were doing the ceiling we called Patrick to ask him if we could get a quote for replastering a broken wall in our dining room. Patrick told us to show it to the men, which we did. Before we knew it they had repaired the wall in the dining room, explaining that it was only a temporary fix and that our wall would have to be replaced eventually. When Patrick arrived later he only charged us for the work on the ceilings. The guys did a fantastic job and we were thrilled to have nice, clean, flat ceilings. We would highly recommend Patrick Hourican Plastering!

I played phone tag with Patrick for several days, and he was really good about always returning my calls. When we finally connected, he said he would call me over the weekend to set up a day the following week to come out and give me an estimate. Since it was a small job, he said if I agreed to the estimate, he'd be able to do the work the same day. Unfortunately I didn't hear from him. I called him about a week later and mentioned a day I was going to be home a few weeks out, if that would work for him. He got back to me and said that day was fine. His estimate was very reasonable and I had him make the repair. The work was excellent. He was apologetic for the trouble we had setting things up; he suddenly had gotten very busy. Given the trouble I'd been having finding some one to do the repair (it was a very small job), I was just happy I finally connected with Patrick to get the work done. I would definitely use him again in the future.

Great overall experience. Patrick came to give me a quote the same day I called & got us on the schedule 2 weeks later. His crew of 2 guys were hardworking, professional & considerate. They vacuumed up all the dust at the end & did a great job. Very happy!

I called Patrick for an estimate and he returned my call right away and came soon thereafter to give an estimate. A few weeks later, when I was ready to have the work done I called him again and he was at the house within two days to repair the wall. He was on time, professional, knowledgeable and hard working, and finished the job in several hours. His repair cost was very reasonable and I was very satisfied with the work. When looking at the finished wall one would not know that it had been previously damaged and repaired. I would recommend him highly.

The crew was prompt, polite, fast, and took pains to keep things neat. They did scratch up a wall getting the blueboard up a narrow staircase, but they patched it and Patrick cheerfully knocked the cost of a can of paint off the final bill. There was one seam that cracked, and Patrick came back and fixed it, no charge. There are the occasional spots that need sanding, but they are few and far between. His prices are reasonable, his responses are prompt, and we'd use him again the next time we need a plasterer.

He was very responsive when I called with callback and left messages. He started the job within a week. He and his crew showed up early and quickly got to work. Lifting some large heavy furniture out of the way for me. Plastic covered everything, rugs and some existing furniture. Boarded two rooms in no time. Before you know it , they were done and cleaned up well. Patrick took the debris away. The work fantastic, the ceilings look like glass. After the quote ,I asked for a wall to be repaired and skimcoated. He did that for free!!!! Great guy and great work. Great Price.!!

Fantastic! I called Patrick on a Thursday morning and he came by the same day to give me an estimate. We then set up a time for him to return to do the work. He and his crew did a superb job. He charged exactly what he had estimated it to cost. We needed another job done a couple of weeks later - in a rush to keep up with scheduled kitchen counter installment. I called Patrick on a Monday and he came by on Wednesday to do the job. Again excellent work! My brother is a contractor who unfortunately doesn't live nearby. He visited and was really impressed with the work Patrick completed.

Patrick and his crew did a great job. My calls were quickly returned and my questions were all answered. Patrick came to look at the job and give me a quote and his crew came to do the work. He estimated it would take half a day, but they finished in less than 3 hours. They were professional and polite. They did a great job of putting up plastic sheeting and covering the floor to contain the mess. They removed all of the trash and mopped the floor when they were done. The plaster ceiling looks perfect. I'm very happy with the results. The joint compound on the walls needed some sanding afterwards, but Patrick warned me about this when he did the quote.

The job went great and we are happy with the end result. Patricks crew was polite and worked very hard. If I had to be picky about the job there were a few errors. They did not go as low as needed with the plaster so we now had to upgrade our trim to 5 in instead of the lower cost 3.5in which was a dissapointment. Also I found last night that they pinched our refridgeration copper wire that was run through the wall before the insulation and blueboard. Anyone who knows what I am talking about is upset right now, because if that ever gets pinched it is worthless and is not only expensive but very difficult to replace. Overall those were the only two issues, but overall there is no way I could give patrick anything but an A, he was very responsive and professional the whole time and we are still very impressed with the work. It was a very old house and you would never know.

I attempted to obtain several estimates for the repair of the ceiling of a built in china cabinet in the dining room. The ceiling had fallen in as a result of water damage caused by a leak in the bathroom above. Of the several that I called, only two looked at the job because it was comparatively small. I selected Mr. Hourican's because he seemed more experienced and his estimate was slightly lower. The service was excellent! Mr. Hourican accomodated my schedule and was prompt and professional. He removed old plaster and replaced it with a beautiful new ceiling that looks fantastic. Then, after the work had been completed and he spotlessly cleaned up the area; he reduced the price because, he said, it was a quicker and easier job than he anticipated!! I would enthusiastically recommend Patrick Hourican Plastering to anyone.

It seemed like the end result was good. I wish in the end that they would have taken the debris with them since our garbage company will not take it with our trash. I did receive a discount on the work and we are happy with how it all turned out. I would use this company again in the future.

Patrick is very prompt and professional. There was an area in the kitchen that his crew left unfinished. I called Patrick and he came over and saw the area and agreed with me and took care of it.
