We where doing this for our mothers house and wanted to meet with landscaper to go over what would be done, but could not schedule time for this because they could not tell us when they would be over to look at yard. We also asked for them to let us know when they would do this job so we could let mother know they were coming and they did not. Job was well done, but we would have like to meet with the Landscaper.

I contacted John via email regarding some major yard cleanup that we need done. They responded within an hour. He was even at the house the next morning do give it a look over. I got the estimate (very reasonable) today and we're working on scheduling the job. John was very professional and very prompt. I can't wait for the work to start. Update: John's guys just finished. It is absolutely amazing. They did a terrific job and the yard has never looked better. I wish there was a way to post a couple photos of the finished project. I'm very pleased and will be calling them for my spring projects, too!

I am very pleased with the work John's Landscape Service provided. John was very responsive to my requests, came out to discuss the project, and we corresponded by email several times to finalize the work. His crew arrived on-time, were very nice and easy to talk to, listened to what I wanted, and did an excellent job. I had to leave during the day, so didn't see them when I returned. I found there was something that they had missed doing due to some miscommunication, so that evening, I emailed John about it, and the next morning, bright and early, they were here to complete the work and did a great job. I was very impressed at how quickly they responded. I would definitely use their services again, and recommend them to anyone looking for a professional job.

The actual workers did a good job however there is a language barrier between the workers and myself. Toward the end of the service I asked one of the workers for the bill so I could write a check and he thought I was displeased with his work, in very polite manner. I am still not sure how I am to pay for service, I hope I will be sent a bill. This lawn service is to be done weekly so billing needs to be timely if not I will not keep the service regardless of how well they do the job. I will not be confused by billing techniques or lack there of where another service is being performed when the bill for the last service has not arrived, and the actual workers did not speak English well enough for them or me to understand each other. I do not speak any language other than English. Booking service went strange as well, I call after reading reviews here at Angie's List and was told someone would be in contact with me. A week and a half later I get a call telling me the price for summer mowing and winter and spring clean ups. When asked, the lady on the phone told me someone had been out ON my property (without me knowing it) and estimated the job. Be advised if you wish to hire this company they may come to your home and go on your property without telling you first when you call to inquire about service. After the first visit John's Landscaping Service has done a reasonable job at what I feel a fair price, I hope the billing goes smoothly, the language barrier with workers and not getting a bill when service was rendered has me concerned but so far so good as they did good work!

They were overpriced, and the quality was marginal.

It was tough to convince my husband, but the crew came today and our lawn has never looked better. The crew arrived, buzzed around the yard for about 40 minutes and when they left all grass was cut, sidewalks swept, and edges trimmed. It was great.

The project began with a thorough inspection of our property and discussion of possible options. A few days later, we received a suggested plan, which was rendered in greater detail once we agreed to have the work done. The final installation was completed about a month later, according to our agreed upon schedule. We were fully involved at every step of the way, all our questions were answered and our suggestions followed. We are delighted with the result.

John was responsive, courteous and extremely professional. We needed his help to mow a small lawn while my sister is undergoing cancer treatment and he was so generous with his time and his crew for what most would view as a "nuisance" job. We are so grateful to him for taking some of the pressure off of my sister.

Very well, John personally came out and gave us an estimate and time of when the service could be performed. He was punctual, professional, and I found him to be very honest and up front. After getting two more estimates I decided to go with John's landscaping. They arrived on time and cleaned up well after each service. The staff was always professional and friendly. I would certainly hire them again in the future. I currently do not use his services because I have purchased the equipment and now enjoy doing it myself. Thank you, Constantine

John was very responsive and was able to give several options and quotes. In the end we decided to finish our fencing before moving on to this project. We will contact John again.

Couple of problems. I spent a lot of time with their designer, but someone else came day of the work, and I felt a disconnect between what I said and what they were doing. (I spent so much time talking about colors - specific colors of some plants - and I wound up with 3 white azaleas in one bed, all of which bloom at the same time, then I've got nothin'.) I think they underestimated the time the first job would take and when the day ended, they just kind of left - leaving stones and some debris piled up in a corner of one of the beds, for example. They could simply have thrown mulch on it and I wouldn't have known, but the way they left it looked unfinished and left me thinking they didn't care. Another problem is that a lot of the materials they planted or transplanted have not survived. Some I think were in the wrong environment - which I had hoped they knew more about than I, but that turned out not to be so. I've had to pull out several shrubs I paid to have planted just 2 years ago. Not a fan of paying someone for shrubs/plants, then paying someone else 2 years later to yank them. This was supposed to be a plan I was going to execute little by little over time. After the second experience, I was completely disappointed and moved on.

My wife and I bought a house last fall and the previous owners had over-planted and under-tended the garden. We called a couple of local landscape companies to seek competing estimates. John's Landscape was the company who responded in a satisfactory manner: answered the phone in person, followed up, etc. John came to our home about 2 mornings after our initial call. He was very pleasant and professional. Our priorities were to remove one mulch bed that was under the front porch against the siding of the house and replace it with stone (mulch against the siding of a wood-frame house is an invitation for termites!) and to remove some ornamental grasses because I'm allergic to them. We also wanted to replace some of the shrubs and plantings with lower-maintenance plants. John walked around the property with us and listened carefully. We told him we wanted to spend $2000-$5000 for the project. He made some insightful comments: for example, I didn't like the rhododendrons and John told me I should think about keeping them because they're low maintenance and were due to bloom soon. He also had some nice ideas like (some day) replacing the wood deck with a stone patio. He was very respectful of our budget and didn't give us a hard sell. He said all we really needed in the near term was a clean-up of the property and some crushed stone under the porch. He did offer a design consultation to plan bigger improvements and we agreed to that. It took about a week for the company to get back to us with an estimate but I was pleased to see it was $2500, including materials. There was no itemized cost breakdown but there was a description of work to be completed and it included nearly everything John and I had verbally discussed. There was one thing that slipped off the list: we had a little poison ivy by the back fence and getting rid of that wasn't on the list. We wrote email back asking to add that item but somehow it never got resolved. This is a minor point considering how the overall project turned out. Another week went by and John's office called to schedule the work. I think my wife forgot to mention the poison ivy. They called on a Thursday and we scheduled the work for the following Monday, weather permitting. They also scheduled our design consultation for the same day. (There's a $500 fee for the design consultation, but it counts as credit toward installation of the new design.) Monday was rainy and John's called us shortly after lunchtime to reschedule for Tuesday. Promptly at 7:30 Tuesday, John's four-man crew arrived and went straight to work. I was working from home and I saw these fellows through the windows all day. They were model employees: conscientious, friendly, professional. They worked quietly and diligently from 7:30 till 5:30 with a couple of breaks. They did a remarkably good job. They filled the bed of a small dump truck with all the weeds, hedge clippings, old mulch, and last year's leaves they removed. They left a spotless work site. I tipped them each $20 and they were quite grateful. In hindsight, I think they deserved more. The garden looks great and our house is now safe from termites. The design consultation went well and we're looking forward to seeing the designer's ideas on paper. All in all, this was a great experience and the start of a promising business relationship.

Beautiful job! Very pleased with the quality of work and the ease of coordinating the installation. All work was completed while I was at work!

.The yard looked 100% better. It's not a fancy yard - just grass and a few border plants, but it doesn't look like a jungle anymore. That's exactly what we asked for. A new yard design may be in the future.

After our landscaper told us that he no longer can cut our lawn for us, we had to find someone else this spring. Many of the companies we contacted either didn't service Melrose and one never even got back to us. When we contacted John's Landscaping Services they were quick to respond and gave us a quite reasonable quote. We hired them and they came out the very next day to cut the lawn. We were quite happy with the way they cut the lawn and we hope they will continue to do such an excellent job in maintaining our lawn from now on.

We had a hard time lifting up the concrete in our backyard. Lots of estimates were done, John's Landscape was the most affordable and so we went with them. They finished the job fast and did great work. Highly Recommend!

John's Landscaping was hired to work on a backyard project of extending a patio, sodding, landscaping and overall clean up. John was initially responsive and came out to do an estimate in the winter of 2012. The project was not finished however until July 2012. I would give a "C/D" for the overall planning and timeliness of execution and a "B" for the final product. I liked the final outcome but getting there was painful. It took too long to get responses. The landscape designer did not show up for a scheduled appointment and was repeatedly late for subsequent appointments and finally slow to turnaround designs. The people who did the clean up of the backyard were great and knowledgeable about trees and plants. So the experience was a mixed bag. I did not rehire John's for additional work I had done this year. It was a more extensive project and was done in 8 weeks.

It went well. John was quick to repond to emails, stopped by the house to provide a quote, answered questions clearly, and arrived with his crew to complete the work we agreed on in a timely and professional manner.

We have a small job for them to do. The representative came but declined to do the job since it was too small. She didn't even gave us a quotation because the job was too small. She just wanted to do what she wanted to do.

I am satisfied with the services. There is a lack of plant knowledge on the weeding crew and a few plants were pulled or overly pruned; the back lawn has not been treated with the same care as the front; and some areas missed in weeding. There has been follow up on every issue and I am confident this year will be better. Estimate was a little higher but I can set the clock for service - it's regular and consistent

Professional excellent work--ballpark prices

I called for an estimate and had it in my mailbox within a few days. They were also able to fit me into their schedule with very little notice. I liked the fact that they provide two cleanings several weeks apart, which was very unique when compared to other companies that I have used in the past. It also made the cost more reasonable. The only minor complaint that I had was that I did call to point out a few areas in the yard that were missed on the first visit and hoped that they would clean on the second visit. Unfortunately, they didn't. I also would have liked to have seen more attention to detail around the shrubs. Overall, I was pleased with the work and plan on using their services again.

We use John's Landscape services for weekly lawnmowing (for the past 2 yrs - originally, I found them on Angie's list and decided to hire them based on good reviews), Today they did the second of two visits for the fall clean-up. We also use them to service our irrigation system (installed by another company). and for other yard work such as fixing openings to our drywells and adding nutrients to the soil to promote lawn growth. We have been very satisfied with their work, and today they did a spectacular job with the second phase of the fall clean-up after the recent storm (Sandy). Communication via phone and email are good, and I find their services reliable and professional for routine lawnmowing, clean-ups, etc. We've met with John a couple of times to discuss jobs, and find him professional and easy to communicate with. Compared to other landscape services we've used in the past for routine weekly lawn mowing and fall cleanups, they offer better communication and do a better job at similar cost. We will continue to use their services to maintain our lawn and irrigation system.
