We called Jim because our shower was leaking despite installing a new shower head. He came by to look at the issue and take down the model of the shower valve. (He also took a look at a faucet we were installing at the time and gave some advice on tightening the valves) Jim indicated that he'd be able to pick up a replacement part and would call the next day to arrange for it to be installed. We didn't hear from him, so we called a few days later to follow up. He apologized for not calling but said he could come the following week with the part and install it then. Jim showed up exactly when he said he would and proceeded to install the new valve. After spending some time, he indicated that the old trim/handle wasn't fitting properly with the new valve. We decided that he would look into getting either an adapter or a new trim/handle and would call us the next day with his suggestion. We heard from him in the morning and decided that buying a new trim/handle made the most sense. Jim picked up the replacement and returned the following day to install it. Unfortunately, our installation is a bit unusual and the new trim didn't fit as expected. Jim went to a local plumbing supply, spoke to someone there who gave him some guidance. He was able to make the necessary changes to get the old trim/handle to work with the new valve. It's been almost a week and so far everything is working well. Jim definitely did a great job considering what should have been a straightforward fix turned out to be more involved due to the parts required. He did a lot of running around in order to ensure the fix was correct and long lasting. I also appreciate the fact that he kept close to his original quote - half the cost was labor and the other half materials.

Jim was a true pleasure to talk to. After a previous contractor had given an estimate and was clearly out of his depth, it was refreshing to talk to Jim about the job. He clearly knew his trade, and was able to quickly identify problems and oddities that the previous contractor didn't even pick up on. He was friendly and knowledgeable, and willing to spend his time and effort to answer questions even during a free estimate. We ended up going with someone else due to a non-trivial difference in price, but I would absolutely be willing to work with Jim again, even though he didn't end up providing services for us. I don't believe that a single estimate reflects any indication of systematically higher prices, and Jim's nature would definitely make me want to give him another chance.

Was punctual. Evaluated the job. Took up the toillet. Did the work described above. Cleaned up after himself. Was friendly and professional.

This is the 2nd time I've had Jim come and do work at my place. Really nice guy, and always right on time. He gave me a window of 10am to 11am, and he was there at 10:02am. He isn't the cheapest plumber in the world. 1.5 hours of labor came to $325... which is over $200/hour. But he seems quick, and the quality of his work is excellent. Highly recommended.

This replacement/installation went smoothly. Jim helped us remedy a water situation by elevating the water heater on to 12" cement blocks. All calls were returned promptly and he explained the process thoroughly. We are comfortable with his manner and work ethic.

He is five star and we have no complaints. He was on time and courteous. He made it clear that based on the parts he had, we figured out pretty quickly that it wouldn't be worth it to pay to do the faucet. He was perfectly happy to tell us the information to do it ourselves. We have no complaints and he is going to send us a bill for his time. We don't expect it to be more than $200. He is going to be our plumber.

We got Jim to come out and give us an estimate for a number of small to medium plumbing and heating/hvac jobs. He was prompt, professional, curteous, and friendly (to me, my wife and our two young sons who followed him around the house). Due to an unforseen emergency we called in a plumber to address one of the jobs the weekend before Jim was scheduled; but he took this in stride and had no hard feelings that the job scope changed or that we brought in another plumbing to deal with the emergency - very professional and appreciated. He arrived early, worked efficiently, and was done quickly. Definately will have him out again in the future.

My previous plumber originally redid the heating system for my house, but was then unresponsive, rude, and expensive for smaller jobs. Jim Richard was very prompt, cordial, informative, and reasonably priced. It turned out that the problem was one I could actually have fixed myself, but it was well worth it to now know a plumber I would immediately call for work in the future. I have since recommended him to my neighbors as well.

Called the number listed here twice in one week (1/11/10, 1/14/10), left messages regarding plumbing problems. I was never called back. Very disappointed, the other reviews are so positive, I don't understand why there was a disconnect.

Very well. I trust Jim - he's very professional and personable. He was able to come within a few days of my contacting him. (My old water heater was still working but it was quite old.) His estimate was under another one I had gotten the year before when I had an emergency, and I'm sure his work is equally good if not better. He installed a gas stove for me last year and that went equally well. And he was very patient about having 3 kitties underfoot. I would definitely use Jim again and I would recommend him to others.

Our laundry drain was completely blocked and flowing out of a standpipe into the basement. Jim came within a day of my call to take a look (Thursday), got the estimate to me by that afternoon and came the following Monday. Over the weekend, my upstairs neighbor asked him to come to clear the old drain with a snake because she couldn't wait until Monday, which he did on a Saturday! By Monday night, the work was done. It is a comprehensive solution to our problem, immaculately executed. I'm getting him to come back to replace my water heater and install some baseboard in my basement.

It went very smoothly. Jim is courteous and works quickly but efficiently. He explains what needs to be done clearly and his estimates are accurate.

Jim returned my phone call in less than a day. He was able to squeeze me in the day we spoke, even though it was not an emergency, and even though it was the week between Christmas and New Year's. He was prompt, fast, professional, and left everything spotless.

Great. We called Jim that morning when we noticed that the toilet's tank didn't fill up as usual. Jim said that he will come by in the afternoon. He arrived as he promised and he quickly changed an old part, and then the toilet was as good as new. He also didn't mind when we asked him if he can check the upstairs bathroom for the same problem. He quickly changed an old part in that tank as well, and it's now flushing as good as new. Thank you.

We found Jim through Angie's list. He is very professional, knowledgeable and personable. He is a great diagnostician. His cost is equal to or even less than our previous plumber. If you contact Jim's office very early in the AM he usually tries to come out that very day! Unfortunately Jim doesn't appear to have a receptionist to take calls. At a later time of day you can leave a voice mail and he will call back later as his schedule allows. What a great plumber!

We purchased a whole new faucet for him to install. He looked at our current faucet and said it was of better quality than the new one and he could repair the current one, so he saved us some money with that. He is very relaxed, he makes you feel comfortable and is easy to work with. We have used him before and would hire him again.

I could not be more pleased -- excellent from first contact to finish. Jim was quick to respond to our 1st inquiry call & communicated his estimate professionally and promptly. He scheduled the job quickly and showed up promptly on the day of the work. Our faucet installations and other repairs went smoothly. Jim didn't hesitate to bring one problem to my attention, we discussed it and he willingly addressed it. Areas were left neat and clean and he was very careful in his workspaces. At the end of the job, Jim suggested a walk thru so we could review the work. Everything looked great. Perfect experience.

Jim responded to an email inquiry, came by a few days later at our mutual convenience, and provided a quote via email for the work we needed done the same day he came by. The work was done in less than two hours on a Saturday morning, and is a tremendous improvement over what we'd had before. He even anchored the existing pipe to the nearby beam in the basement (we have a lot of badly anchored gas, water, and steam piping in our basement). He was early every time he was to come, and the price was very good. My only complaint is that he didn't clean up the plaster dust that was disturbed by running the pipe through the basement drop ceiling, but that's pretty minor---I wouldn't have thought of it if I hadn't had window installers vacuum up their debris the previous weekend.

Jim came out the same day I called him and identified the problem and replaced the old (and improperly done) gas pipes leading to our washing machine.

Fantastic. Jim is responsive, professional, and does a great job. On top of that he seems to be a really great guy. Highly recommended.
