This is the second time we've used Gilbert and scheduling the job was tricky, as we were trying to fit in both floor refinishing and painting between our close and move in dates. Not only did Gilbert work around our tight schedule and the other trades coming in, but his crew did a beautiful job. No trace of wallpaper left, all the innumerable holes left in the walls by the previous owner are gone, and the walls look great. His crew came when he said they would, were timely every morning, and worked late to get rooms done so they could "turn them over" to us in our moving/unpacking process. They also completely cleaned up every night, so it didn't feel like we were living in a construction zone. Gilbert provided an accurate quote, and he and his team were very responsive to questions, made suggestions if I didn't know what to do in terms of finish types, etc., and were just generally pleasant to work with. Everything you could hope for!

I contacted him via email - and he gave me a quote. He met my renter, decided on the paint and completed the job - without the need for my involvement. Renter is happy, I'm happy.

Gilbert provided a responsive quote and arrived with his team and performed the work with them. He threw in a few extras and completed the job to a high level of quality. Would recommend him.

I was referred to Gilbert by a neighbor and also found that he had high marks on Angies List. I called Gilbert and described the carpentry work in addition to the painting job. He scheduled a time convenient for me for him to come over and see the house. I had a quote within two days. He was fairly busy and was also delayed due to a lot of rainy weather but he was able to get the job on his schedule long before the season ended. He notified me a week before he was going to start the job. His crew arrived when he said they were going to and they finished fairly quickly, in three or four days. The carpentry work and painting job was flawless and everything was left perfect with no painting drips or messes to clean up. They painted the porch trim a different color than I wanted, though no fault of theirs. They painted the trim the existing color. (I mentioned the color change in my first contact with Gilbert, but I missed modifying the quote to include the change.) Gilbert had his crew repainted the porch trim without issue or additional cost to me. The only reason I gave a B on the price is because I did not get any other bids for the job and I have no way of making a judgement on price.

Gilbert is a pleasure to work with. He's focussed, totally competent, tidy, fast and very reasonably priced. He exceeded my expectations. The place looks beautiful and I'm planning to use him again for the outside of the house. And the Irish brogue is a pleasure to listen to!

Gilbert is a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. He is busy, but will do his best to get your job done when you need it done. I had to call him to come back to paint the interior of one closet that was somehow missed - it was addressed immediately and with an apology for missing the spot in the first place. Gilbert was also able to recommend a few other local contractors to us and they were also great to deal with. If it is more important to you to deal with nice, professional, trustworthy people than to get the absolute best product at the lowest price (not that we had any problem with his work or his price - I just didn't bother to get any more estimates after meeting Gilbert) - look no further. Nice guy, nice work.

I was happy dealing with Gilbert and with his price. Five days before the movers were to come, we agreed he would come get keys and I also asked for a written contract. He didn't show up - there seemed to be a mixup in which day he was to come. So we set up another appointment for the following day - and again, he didn't show up or even call to postpone. So I had to find another contractor at the last minute. In fairness, Gilbert did offer to pay the difference between what he had promised to charge and the higher price I ended up paying - but I didn't take him up on that.

It was a very positive experience. I had to have my ceiling replaced and a hole in the wall of my bedroom patched because of a leak in the upstairs condo heating system. In the past I have always done my own painting and enjoyed it. But I've reached the age when the idea of paying someone else to do it for me had a lot of appeal. The plasterer recommended Gilbert so I called him to make an appointment. Unfortunately he couldn't come when he originally planned because he was stuck in Europe because of the Iceland volcano! This was clearly something beyond his control and even so he was apologetic. He gave me a free estimate, we made a date. He and his workers showed up on time, moved the bedroom furniture out that could be moved, covered the rest, did a beautiful job of painting and cleaning up afterwards and were also good about making sure my indoor cats didn't get outside. Gilbert wasn't present the whole time but he was obviously keeping tabs on his workers and inspecting the work to make sure it was done well. Gilbert was personable, easy to work with and helpful about making suggestions for trim color. He was willing to work with me on an idea I had about ceiling color (mixing some of the wall color into the ceiling paint.). I am looking forward to having Gilbert paint the rest of the interior of my house!

Gilbert was punctual, courteous and professional when he came for the estimate. He provided a written a written estimate within a couple of days that was in the same ball park with the other quotes we received. The decision to go with another painter was determined by chance. We will be contacting Gilbert again when the time comes to do more painting.

They are very good and do very good prep work which is crucial for painting. They used quality materials and the painters were fast. They clean up after themselves and the price is good. I like the guy Gilbert and I will fairly recommend him. He is fair guy for work and look up to him for the work. I will use him in future.

He was great and on time. He was very clean and did a good job. He was easy to work with.

We got 3 estimates and liked Gilbert the best (his was the middle estimate in cost). We also hired him because he was able to do the window repairs as part of the job. He is careful and personable; his crew was responsible and punctual and did great work. They worked long hours to get the job done in just a couple of days.

He was great and they cleaned up very well. He did a very nice job and where we had issues, he came back immediately and fixed them.

Gilbert was recommended to us by another Angie's List contractor, Patrick Hourican, and we couldn't be happier. He has been flexible with us and our sometimes changing schedules, willing to hold-off when our schedule became affected by events, and came back quickly when we called him. The work is well done. He helped us with the agonizing selection of colors, making helpful suggestions that made it easier for us. He made other recommendations that saved us money. And the finished product is simply outstanding. Both the exterior and the interior work has been meticulously done. I have worked with quite a few painters, including a couple high-end contractors in the South End and I believe Gilbert Carey to be their equal--at a MUCH better price and without the snottiness. Besides, how many times have you had a contractor drive up with NPR playing on his truck radio!

Gilbert and his crew were fantastic. Gilbert took his time assessing our needs and reviewing all rooms/preferences prior to the work start date. He was very friendly and thorough. The day they arrived, the crew got right to work and Gilbert proceeded to fix a bunch of messy patches left by the plasterer. He took his time to fill in cracks/nail holes in our trim/on our ceilings -- he paid close attention to detail and the final product was fantastic. They were efficient and very professional in their interactions with us. We ended up paying a little more in the long run so they could finish the job. All in all, we were very happy with the results.

He arrived on time to do the work. I would use his services in the future. The quality of his work is good. He is personable guy. He was courteous and kind to me.

He did a good job and did what he said what he would do. He was on time, and we would use him again.
